Chapter 11- How will I tell him? (When words fail-Shrek the Musical)

Meanwhile

"What brought you here anyway" Maddie asked Jessie, the pair standing on the roof, looking over the balcony with their fingers intertwined.

"Maybe I just wanted to see you again" Jessie smiled but Maddy simply raised her eyebrow.

"Oh come on Jessie. Do you think I don't know you? I've spent the majority of my life with you. I think I know you by now. I know you're here for something else"

Jessie raised both of her hands, giggling. "Fine, you got me. You see, I came here for your help"

"My help? How could I help you?" Maddie asked in confusion.

"Right, long story short, the Dragon Witch cast a curse on the Sanders Sides and the Imagination so now, they're here to break it"

"Wait, hold up a second. The Sanders Sides are here?!?"

"Yes yes, keep up. Basically, in order to break the curse, they need some magic and you are the only person I know with magic"

"Hold on. Slow down. I'm so confused" Maddie rubbed her head in confusion.

"I'll explain in more detail later. Anyway, do you think you can help us?" Jessie looked up at Maddie, desperation in her eyes.

"I wish there was something I could do but I don't have any magic"

"What!?!" Jessie's eyes widened in shock. "But those cloaks you gave me-"

"I didn't enchant them"

"Well then who did?"

"There's a sorcerer in another section of the Imagination, in a deserted village in the middle of no where. He's the most powerful sorcerer in the whole land but he prefers to stay hidden and unknown. He's not there all the time though. He's the one who gave me those cloaks. I guess you could say we were kinda close. I mean, I used to live in that village and I became his apprentice"

"Well then I guess that's who we're going to find. I'll go and tell the others" With a determined look painted across her face, Jessie began to turn around to return to the others when she felt Maddie tugging on her hand.

"Wait! I don't think that's a good idea"

"And why not?" Jessie jerked her hand away, sharply turning around.

"Because, well, he's very stubborn and I'm not entirely sure if he'll be willing to help us"

"Why not? I thought you just said that you two are very close"

"Well we were but then I kinda ran away from that village and never returned. He probably hates me now"

"Look, I'm sure everything will be fine. I'm sure he'll forgive you"

"I very highly doubt that. I failed to tell him that I was running away and he's known to have a very short temper and be quite unforgiving"

Jessie took Maddie's hand in her own and gazed into her hazel brown eyes. "Look I know you're probably frightened but we have to at least try it. Please. If not for them then for me. Please Maddie"

As Maddie gazed into Jessie's pleading eyes, she couldn't resist the puppy dog eyes she was receiving. "Fine" she sighed as two arms were thrown around her, squeezing her tightly.

"Thank you. Thank you so much Maddie" Jessie smiled.

"You're welcome. So should we tell the others?" Maddie asked. Nodding, Jessie took her hand and lead her towards the others.

Meanwhile

The four sides were just dancing and enjoying each other's company: Logan and Roman dancing romantically with eachother and Virgil simply giggling at Patton's amusing yet adorable dance moves.

"Come on Virge, dance with me. It's fun" Patton smiled.

"Oh no I'm fine thanks" Virgil said firmly crossing his arms "Besides, I can't da-" But before he could protest any more, Patton pulled him towards the dance floor as the two started dancing together, giggling the whole time.

"It's fun isn't it?" Patton asked.

"Yeah I guess you're right" Virgil smiled.

"See. I told you so" Patton laughed. Just then, Virgil felt a tap on his shoulder. Sharply turning around, Patton peeking over his shoulder, he saw two girls standing there, one of whom was Jessie, and Roman and Logan stood behind them.

"Um...may I help you?" He asked.

"Hey guys!" Patton waved.

"Hey!" Maddie waved timidly. "I'm Madeline by the way but you guys can call me Maddie. Everyone always does anyway"

"Oh, is this your friend you were telling us about Jessie?" Patton asked a Jessie nodded.

"Yep. She's also my lover" Jessie told him.

"Omg! You're gay?!? That's adorable!" Patton squealed.

"Patton, you realise we're gay as well right?" Virgil asked.

"Yeah but they're still so cute together"

"Anyways, sexuality aside, how comes you gathered all of us together?" Logan asked inquisitively.

"Oh right. That. Well, Maddie's going to help us. She knows of a powerful sorcerer and she's gonna lead us to him" Jessie explained.

"Yes that is correct. We shall leave tomorrow morning so we should probably get some rest. Try and blend in the best you can for now and when every one has left, we can hide away in one of the classrooms and sleep there overnight" Maddie explained as Roman took the timer out of his pocket and nervously checked it.

"Guys, might it not be best to go now? We have under 3 days left to break the curse otherwise we'll be stuck like this forever" Roman told them.

"Well it's only a few hours from here. I'm sure we'll be fine. If not, I think the sorcerer may have some magic that could give us more time" Maddie reassured him. Roman let out a sigh of relief.

"Now, I'm sure y'all don't go to discos often so enjoy yourselves whilst it lasts" Jessie advised them before running off with Maddie giggling, Roman and Logan swiftly leaving not long after.

"So, Virge, do you want to do anything?" Patton asked. Virgil realised that now would be the perfect opportunity to confess his love to Patton. The only problem was, as usual, he was too anxious about it. He didn't want to get tongue tied or jumbled. He knew that he had to at least prepare what he was going to say.

"Um, do you mind if I go outside for a bit? I just need to do something. I'll be right back" Before Patton could say anything, Virgil ran outside and sat down on a quiet bench.

Virgil preferred it out here. It was a lot more peaceful and calmer out here, the gentle breeze blowing through his hair. His gaze wondered around the picturesque garden until it landed on some wild daisies. Smiling, he walked over to them and picked one up out of the ground for Patton. He then sat back down and began to talk quietly to himself, practicing what he would say to Patton, fiddling with the flower in his hands.

"Patton... I... How's it going first of all? Good? Uh, it's good for me too. I'm okay...I guess"

Soon, his words began to turn into song.

"I picked this flower.
Right over there is where it grew.
And I don't really like it but it made me think of you because it's pretty,
Is what I'm trying to say.
And you are also pretty but I like you anyway.
So please accept this flower with its petals and a stem which represent my feelings and tells you how..."

"Oh man I'm in trouble" He said quietly to himself, throwing the flower to one side, before singing again.

"When words fail what will I do?
When words fail how will he know how I feel?
When words fail will I fail too?

Hello dear Patton.
Oh look the moon is out tonight.
You remind me of that moon because it's big and bright.
And by big I don't mean chubby, obviously you're not fat.
But your personality is biggish is what I meant by that"

"Oh where am I going with this?" He asked himself.

"When words fail what will I do?
When words fail how will he know how I feel?
When words fail will I fail too?

Do I have a snowball's chance?
Are my prospects just too grim?
I spent my life stuck in the mud.
Now I'm crawling out on a limb.

If words fail he'll know what I mean.
If words fail he'll just take my hand.
He sees me like no one else has.
If words fail he'll understand.
He'll understand"

Singing that gave him a sudden boost of confident. He realised that Patton would just love him for who he was. Filled with new found confident, he stood up and began to head inside before an exhausted Roman ran out, panting and trying to catch his breath.

"Roman, what's wrong?" Virgil asked, a concerned look across his face.

"It's Patton and Jessie. They're gone!"
