Chapter 4
"Dipper!?" I shout through the house. I had completely forgotten about him! Darn emotions getting in the way! I slide silently through the house, the floors creaking as the afternoon sun drains in through all the windows and small insects scurry across the floor. I climb up and down the states and through the gift shop and even Gruncle Stan's room but alas Dipper seemed to have vanished with out a trace.
"Hey Gruncle Ford!" I call out as he slides out the door, his boots clunking against the decaying wood with heft.
"Yes?" He turns around sloppily and doesn't stop a slow pace as he climbs down the stairs.
"Have you seen Dipper?" I ask, hugging the pole.
"No, but I'm sure he's around." He says dismissively and disappears across the parking lot. I sigh but continue holding the appointed wood. Where could he be, why was he acting so weird? What's wrong with him!?
I want him back.
I squeeze the pole tighter as my eyes get a watery glare to them. I wanted to cry, I really did but my emotions were so hey wire I didn't even seem to be able to put my finger on which ones I was feeling. But I didn't move my spot as kids and parents fly by me in cars, pointing at everything they saw with awe, but not one of them even gave me a glance. My sweater felt like Velcro as I tried to remove it from the wood, little pieces of it knitting it's way in tightly, scrapping my skin slightly. I was hungry, and I felt like I had just woken up from a nap.
"Hey Mabel." Someone calls. I look up and wipe my dry eyes as Candy stands there smiling. "I hear about Dipper, wanted to see if everything is okay."
"Y-Yeah." I manage to lie through my teeth. "He's just fine, sleeping upstairs, better not wake him. Thanks for stopping by though!" I manage to sew my mouth shut.
"Oh okay then!" She smiles her usual smile. "Want to come over for a sleepover?"
"Sorry I'm just not in the mood." I say as my fave turns red. I really would like to go but what if Dipper turns up!? I had to look for him! He has to be here somewhere! I won't give up on him!
"Oh okay then." Candy turns on her heels. "Call me if you change your mind."
"I-I will!" I call after her as she climbs into her car and they speed off. I stare at the forest, the sun beat off of the trees intensely. I hadn't been out here for as long as it felt, maybe it was just a minute or two but hugging that pile made everything go away.
Everything except for the one thing I wanted back.
"Dipper." I mumble. "Where could you be?" I wanted to go look for him in the woods, I really couldn't but I decided to stay put. The best way to find someone is to not move yourself, I learned that when I got lost in a Walmart once when I was four. It may seem small but oh my lord that place is a miniature labyrinth! I was all alone in the frozen food isle and that was definitely bad. At least lose me in the toys sections! Anyways Dipper and mom were looking everywhere and so was I. I must've gone around the whole 3 story store about twelve hundred times! We managed to run into each other in the produce section and both Dipper and I were in tears we were so scared. We ran into a hug and nocked over the display of lemons and my mom had to buy some of them but she was just happy I was safe. It's weird how when something happens to someone you always assume the worst. My mom thought I was abducted or something like that, crazy right? Usually if someone is lost it won't be bad. Like Dipper right now, for instance. He could just be in his room under the bed or maybe in a patch of grass in the woods. Dipper could totally be okay, why would you assume the least likeliness of something happening. 9/10 the person you list will be fi-
This was the 1/10 time.
I hear coughing and gasping in front of me and I look up to see my brother pulling himself towards the shack on all fours, one arm almost dragging the rest of his body, he's wheezing and covered in blood and bruises and sweat. His clothes are soaked and he's shivering like a mad man. His eyes are swollen, his had had a clean slice through the middle, it bleached red with blood.
"DIPPER!" I scream and slide off the porch and trip over myself running at him. "OH MY GOD STAN! FORD! WENDY ANYONE!!!"
I slid on my knees next to him and he releases his breath with a bloody cough. His is limp in my hands and his eyes are fluttering shut.
"No no no no." I smack the side of his face gently. "Don't go to sleep. Come on Dipper stay with me!"
"M-Mabel..." He wheezes, his head rolling onto my lap.
Tears began to pour down my face. "Yes yes it's me Dipper. Please, stay conscious. How old are you?" I was shaking and screaming for when he finally answered.
"T-Twelve." He coughs into my skirt. I smile for a split second but then ask again.
"When's your birthday?"
"Au-g-gust 31st."
"What's you're real name?"
"Mason."
"What's your favorite color?"
"Blue." I pet his head as his blinks get heavier. I look around at the parking lot filled with cars but no one is outside. I can't keep yelling, clearly that isn't working.
"Okay Dipper I'm gonna try to carry you into the shack." I explain slowly. "But I'm not that strong, can you help me a little."
"M-May-yes." He finally settles and I carefully place his head down. I stand up and let out one last scream for help, when the door flies open with a fat boy with his even fatter mom.
"EXCUSE ME!?" I scream, the lady jumps around in surprise.
"Yes'm?" She yells back like she didn't see a bloody and gross brother by my feet.
"Can I us your phone!?" I scream back, an edge to my voice.
Her stupid eyes finally see Dipper and she runs over, already dialing her phone.
"Yes'm? 911?" She asks like they literally didn't just say '911 what's your emergency?'
"C'mon Dipper, I bend back over as a puke-drool slides out of his mouth. "Stay with me."
"C-Can't sleep." He is shaking and staring at the ground, gripping the grass his eyes as big as they can be. "Can't sleep can't sleep can't sleep can't sleep-"
"Dipper!" I shake him slightly.
"What's your name?" She says, covering the phone politely.
"Gimme that!" I snatch the phone from her, I felt savage. "Yes this is Mabel Pines! I'm at 100 Gopher Road at the Mystery Shack! My brother is nearly conscious can you please send an ambulance like NOW!"
"Already on their way." The lady says politely. "Now make sure to keep him conscious-"
"That's what I've been doing!" I scream panicking.
"Miss please calm down-"
"I CANT MY BROTHER MAY DIE!" I'm crying and the lady sends her boy in to get Stan. Finally she does something right!
"Miss you have to calm down and talk to your brother."
"No Sh-" I alms it curse and throw the phone to the ground but instead I take a deep breath and throw the phone onto the ground. It's a flip phone, no one knows how to hang up on those anymore!
"Ugh." The lady makes a soft noise but all I do is bed down to Dipper.
"My name is Mabel and your name is Mason." I began to talk to him. "Do you remember why they call you Dipper?"
"P-Pine. Symbol. Pleh." He is shaking, more drool coming out of his mouth.
"No." I say as I hear sirens. "You have the birth mark, remember."
"H-H-E-L-LP-L." He struggles to say as I hear the sirens squeal right next to my ears and Gruncle Stan and Ford come to a dusty July next to us.
"Dipper you got that hat." I pull on the brim slightly. "Remember? When did you get it?"
"Summer. Dead." He says clearly and then begins to shake and thrash.
"He's having a seizure!" One of the medical people scream. "Everyone get back."
I peddle backwards and fall down, Gruncle Stan helping me up and I get into his pudgy stomach.
"Get me the stretcher!" A woman with long blond hair calls from the ambulance as they jump out like SWAT members.
The rest happened like a blur, the blue and red lights flashing, over a scene of my brother melting before my eyes. It was small in slow motion, but happened in half the time and before I knew it I was riding in the back seat of Gruncle Stan's car, almost puking as the car bounces between ambulances on the way to the hospital.
