Chapter 7

It hadn't been long when Luna heard the front door close. "Luna? Luna, where are you?" Chris found be heard from the other side of the house.

Kelsie looked at the blonde wearily. "Who was that?" She asked.

Luna tried not to look completely confused. "That was Chris." She answered. "It's his house."

Kelsie glanced toward the lake. "That can't be." She whispered to herself.

"What can't be?" Luna inquired. She had grown used to her new friend saying odd things like this.

"Chris, but he's only....." She trailed off in thought.

"Luna!" This time it was Jace. "Where the heck are you, child!" His voice sounded closer than Chris' had been.

"I better get inside." Luna sighed, standing from the chair.

"Do you have to?" Kelsie stood as well, not wanting her to leave yet. It'd been so long since someone came out here.

"If I don't, they might-"

"There you are." Jace appeared at he door, cutting her off mid-sentence. "Who were you talking to?" He eyed her curiously.

She swung around. Kelsie was no long standing by the rocking chair. "I was... I was just talking to myself. Y'know trying to clear my head." Luna ducked back into the house.

"Yeah well, I told you not to come back here." He said. "Why would you do it anyway?"

"Because I heard something." Luna shrugged. "I just wanted to see where it was coming from."

Jace turned pale, a look of fear, confusion, and worry crossing his face at once. "Don't say that around Chris, do you understand me." He ordered harshly.

Luna flinched at the tone, but nodded nevertheless. "W-Why?"

Jace sighes and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm going to be honest with you right now, but don't ever mention or tell Chris I told you."

"Okay. Go on." Luna sat on the edge of the dust covered bed, watching him do the same.

With that he began to tell her something that happened been uttered in a long time.

Luna was left only to study Jace as he tried to explain where they were going. He had explained it three other times so by now he was running out of adjectives.

"It's kinda like the diner we went to mixed with a theatre." He glanced back at her through the rear-view mirror. "Just trust me, okay? You'll love it. Besides we have to have dinner with mine and Chris' parents it was the deal."

The blonde nodded not really caring anymore, I mean they were already driving to this place. "You got it." She mumbled, turning back to look out the window. Her mind still on the talk from earlier.

"Luna?" Chris tapped her shoulder, trying for her attention. He was a little worried, seeing as the girl hadn't spoken two words to him since he got back, but she's spoken quite a bit with Jace. Since when were they friends?

Luna tilted her head on the glass, eyeing him carefully forcing a smile for him to continue. "Are you okay?"

A small laugh escaped her mouth. "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" She smiled a little bigger, finding it extremely funny. "Are you?"

"Yeah, yeah, I was just wondering you've been uncharacteristically quiet." Chris shrugged although she couldn't see him. "Nevermind."

"Just have nothing to say I guess." Luna lied, her mind continuously wandering back to Jace's tale. "Don't worry about it."

The SUV suddenly made a sharp turn into a parking space-underneath a tacky, neon pink sign-sending Luna into Chris' lap. "Seriously, Jace." The blonde pushed herself up and glared at the driver.

Jace held is hands up. "Sorry, it was a good spot." He defended himself. Jace opened his car-door, chuckling as he did. "Besides you're still alive."

Luna rolled her eyes, bumping her shoulder against his. "Depends what you mean by alive." She said sarcastically. "Because having to deal with you is enough to kill anyone."

Jace placed both hands to his heart and scoffed. "Missy, you are rude. Now get out of my sight." He said and flicked his wrist, indicating for her to leave. "I'm seriously get out of my sight, or better yet race me inside."

"You wanna race me?" She practically laughed. "Bring it on." With that they raced toward the glass double doors, leaving Chris-who was wondering if he'd entered a new universe-to trail behind.

Once inside things got tricky, for Jace's mother knew Luna as Chris' cousin, but Chris' parents have never seen her before. So if his mother said one wrong thing everything could be blown. But fate was luckily there to help.

"I don't know what to do these people expect a show, and Jill just called in sick." Luna overheard a man saying to another man.

"It isn't that hard a dance, couldn't you find a replacement, or just edit her out?" The other man responded.

"Not on short notice no one would be crazy enough to dance only having thirty minutes of practice." He chuckled. "And they were taught to do it with five people not four. Maybe luck will drop right onto our hands."

"A dance." Luna whispered, grinning wildly. The boys needed her to not be around, right. The blonde pretended to trip over one of the men's outstretched foot, catching herself last minute.

"I'm so sorry, ma'am, are you alright?" The man she'd "tripped" over asked concernedly.

Luna flashed an embarrassed smile, tucking a piece of hair back. "I'm okay, and actually it was partly my fault. You see I was eavesdropping on your conversation." She said, looking down.

"Why on earth would you eavesdrop on something so boring?" The other man laughed, gaining the attention of the two boys.

"I just...You said you needed a dancer is all." She shrugged a shoulder. "I was curious."

Luna struggled not to laugh as their eyes widened and chins dropped. "C-Can you dance?" One of them stammered out, a look of unbelief crossing his face.

"Maybe a smidge." The blonde held up two fingers almost touching and closed one eye. "But I catch on quickly."

"Then follow me. The other girls are this way." One of them said, motioning her to walk with them.

Luna turned back to the boys. "Problem solved." She clapped her hands together. "See ya boys later." She turned on her heels and followed after the man.

"Now where is she going?" Jace questioned.

Chris only shrugged. "Like I know, but Luna makes her own plan."

"Hiya, boys, how's the lakehouse?"Lacey Sinclair strolled up to them, Chris' parents close behind her.

"Great." They answered together.

Fifteen or so minutes went by when finally the owner of the diner-the man Luna had left with-appeared at the front where a stage sat. "Attention, everyone, it's time for a little bit of a show. You ready for our favorite girls?" He questioned, genuine excitement lacing his voice.
The audience began to cheer, everyone seemed to know exactly what he meant.

"Alrighty then, I think you're going to like tonight's performances, and that's not just because Jill is out this week." He joked. "Please welcome our favorite teenage girls. Give 'em a hand."

The boys watched as lights revealed two girls lying on the stage, when all the sudden Jace nudged Chris pretty hard. "Look at the one closest to us." He whispered, amazed by what he was seeing.

"What about her?" Chris inquired, but then it struck him. "That's Luna."

"Dang right it's Luna." Jace almost screamed.

Chris shushed him. "Let's watch, okay."

Jace reached up to shut Chris' mouth as Luna and the other girl ran off stage. "She's amazing." Chris breathed.

"Yeah she is." Jace agreed. "Look they're coming back out!" He pointed to where this time five girls in identical blue dresses walked slowly onto the stage. "Hey, she's still with them."

This time when the dance was over Luna came over to the their table. "Hi, guys, what'd I miss." She asked innocently, taking a seat next to Jace.

"What you missed?" Jace echoed.

Chris didn't give her time to reply. "That was awesome! Where'd you learn to dance like that?" He rushed out, ignoring his parents questioning looks.

Luna thought a second. "Abby something or another taught me, but she's no longer around." She responded, taking a sip of water. "I haven't done that in a while."

"Well, Lilia, I got to admit that was pretty good." Lacey patted the girl's back. "If you'll excuse me a moment." She left the table.

Chris' mother turned pale. "Y-y-you're name's Lilia?" She stuttered out, looking as though she'd seen a ghost.

Luna nodded, playing along with the game. "Yes, Ma'am, it is." She said and watched as the woman rose from her chair.

"May I have a word with you, Lilia? In private?" Mrs. Chambers-Thompson asked calmly, but underneath you could tell she was ready to burst or break.

The blonde glanced around before getting up as well. "Of course." She let the older lady lead her outside. All the while wondering what was with the odd woman.
