Chapter 2

I awoke this morning cold and damp. The clothes I wore stuck tightly to me, it was like a second skin. I shook violently and if I had a mirror I would probably be ghost white. My first kill outside of training. I look through the small gap in the rocks, it's s gradually getting lighter. If I can make sure the coast is clear, I can run until I get to the fence. After that i'll be safe, for now anyway. The king has demanded I must be back by tonight or else I get no pay. I can't afford for that to happen, this is the only income my family has, and there are tons of us.

Thoughtfully I start to pull down some rocks from the top of the pyramid I have created, I warily peer out, I see absolutely nothing. Picking up a decent sized rock from the rock mound, creating yet another hole to look through, I hurl it out. It hits the bottom and the dogs don't bark. It's an enduring walk back to the King's castle, the path is a steep all the way there.

I use the end of my sleeve to clean off the blood from my sword, at some places I have to scrub harder, because the blood was so thick. Before I take down the rock mound I had created I made sure the amulet was still tucked away in my boot. Then I set to work, my hands were dry and were cracking, the soles of my feet aching, and my stomach begging for food.

After awhile I've broke a big enough hole for me to climb through, and cautiously listen out for any signs of humans or hounds. I hear none, so I pick up my sword and quickly climb down from were I was. So far so good. I reach the bottom, and I start sprinting towards the fence. It's agonising for me to run and my legs are so weak, I feel as if I could fall any moment.

It takes me a lot of time but I finally reach the fence. When a voice sneered from behind me.
"You don't think we're going to let you go that easily do you?" I turned to the voice. It was a strongly built man, with broad shoulders. I say nothing.

He hits he to the floor, with one knock of his gigantic hand, then goes on to kick me in the stomach. With the remaining strength I could muster I grab my sword and stab him in the leg, and quickly take it out. This gives me enough time to get up. He kicks the sword out of my grasp, with my hands balled into fists I hit him smack in the middle of his ugly dishevelled face. I go to punch him again he grabs my arm and twists it. I bring my boot out and kick him in the throat. He gasps for air. I grab my sword and stab him in the heart. He instantly falls with a enormous thud to the ground.
She went through the gap in the fence, to start her treck up to the King's castle.
