Butterfly
"You know you're hot on the bass," a voice says from the door. I had walked off backstage and was in a makeshift dressing room.
"So you've said...a hundred times," I smile but I know he can't see it.
"Guess I'll have to keep reminding you," I feel his hand on my shoulder and turn around. I scream when I see Bull.
"Holy sh**! What are you doing in here?" I scream and try to push him out. He just laughs and moves away.
"What? Didn't you know it was me?" He asks innocently. I growl and clamp my hands.
"Out! Now," I hiss and point to the door. He just shrugs and plops on a couch. I mentally face palmed. "What do you want?"
"Me? Oh, I want nothing, but you...well I do believe some answers are in the question?" he says with a small smile. I scrunch my nose and narrow my eyes.
"No thanks. Pretty sure I got it all figured out," I insist and begin to walk out the door. He pushes it closed with his foot, trapping me in there.
"You positive about that?" he asks again, standing up. I sigh and roll my eyes.
"Absolutely, now let me go!" if I were a snake he'd be dead ten times over and I'd be out of venom.
"Well if you don't have question, I have answers. 1. You're parents are alive and miss you dearly. 2. We put the CCG in prison immediately after what had happened. 3. There has never been anything I regretted more in my life," he says simply as if it were no big deal. I would beg to differ.
"1. I am quite glad my parents are alive but I don't need to see them. 2. I don't care what you do to the CCG. 3. There should be many other things that you should regret more than that," I say back in the monotone he had used. He just laughed and gave me his goofy smile.
"You don't have to pretend not to care," he assures me.
"Neither do you," I retort and grab my bag. "Now if you excuse me, I think I have some people to see."
"Just one last question," he says before I can leave. I stop and sigh.
"What is it?" I ask snappily.
"You don't have to answer, but why wouldn't you want to see you're parents after 14 years?" he pauses. "Anyway, as you said. People to see, places to be." He pushed past me and walked out, leaving me there in the haunting echoes of his question.
I walked out a few minutes later only to find Bull being held up in the air by Buck.
"Put him down!" I scream, grabbing Buck's relentless arm.
"He...hurt you!" Buck protests, gripping harder. Bull's feet swung around as his face turned purple. I screamed and smacked Buck over the head. He released a Bull who was gasping on the floor and turned to me.
"How could you do that to someone! That's it! It's over!" I felt like a drama queen but who cares. I went to Bull, grabbed him by the arm and dragged him out. As we walked along the sidewalk he began to laugh. "What is so funny?"
"You still care about me," he insists. I laugh.
"Uh-huh, no. I was meaning to break it off with him anyway, you just made it easier," I insist and walk faster.
"Ever get an answer for my question?" He asks, jogging to keep pace.
"Thought I didn't need one," I joke around, but he doesn't smile. "Yes, I don't want to see them because I don't want them to see me like this. Alright? now goodnight!" I dismiss and walk towards my house.
"They would be proud!" he called after me. I turned to respond but he was gone.
Him and all his lies.
