Best
I was just sitting down, watching TV when my doorbell rang. I got up and opened it, surprised to see Bean.
"May I come in?" he asks in innocently. I glance behind me to see if professor was home and then sigh.
"Come on," I move aside, granting access. He nods his head and walks in. I close the door and turn around, surprised to see him holding up a picture of Blaze, BF, Bamboo and me.
"You knew each other when you were little?" He asks, putting down the photo and turning to look at me.
"We were cousins," I admit with a shrug. I look up to him and fold my arms. "But I don't think you came here to learn about my life."
He laughs, sending chills down my back. "No. That's not why I'm here."
"Then why are you?" I ask stubbornly. He looks up at me and grabs my hand. I'm so surprised I don't have time to react before he sat me down on the couch.
He sat next to me and lightly caressed my hand. I felt a blush work into my cheek and I gently pulled my hand away. He looked up to me and sighed.
"I care for you, Best. I really do," he admits. I felt my heart skip a beat and remembered how kind he was to me.
"Me too," I whisper. He smiles and leans forward. This time I waste no time before our lips connected. He was sweet like a gumdrop and I never wanted it to end. Yet something was biting at the back of my mind, telling me to stop.
I pulled away, pretending to be out of breath and leaned on his chest. I felt his heart bearing rapidly under me and he stroked my hair. Suddenly I remembered the look on Berry's face as he saw Bamboo. That sweet, loving look. I looked up to Bean and when he looked back to me. I didn't see it, just the eyes of a traitor.
"Get out," I command, sitting up and going to the door. I hold it open for him to leave and he stares at me blankly.
"Best what's wrong?" he asks with worry, but I can hear the humor in it. Tears well in my eyes but I push them down. I was played.
"Everything. Now. Get. Out." I command, pointing to the door.
Bean chuckles and gets up, coming to me.
"Always smart, that's why I requested a little back up..." he smiles and arms grab me. I turn around and see Bull tying me up. "Have a nice nap." Bean says with a sad smile. My eyes widen and he stuffs something into my mouth.
I woke up and instantly sat up. My hands were free, but in incredible pain so I rubbed them as I looked around. On my left was an empty cage, and to my right was BF who was soundly asleep. Next to BF was Bamboo whose cage was split in half. As it turned I saw that Berry was in the other half.
"Butterfly?" I ask, hoping she'll hear me. BF turns quickly and looks around. When she sees me she rubs to the left side of the cage and reaches her hand through.
"Best!" she cries out in relief. My leg shoots up in sudden pain as I walk forward and stick my arm through but I ignore it. Our fingers glance and another rebound of pain comes, so powerful that tears start to track down my cheeks.
"You can't cry, Best. They'll use it against you," a voice says in a mocking tone. My fists clench as I turn, earning another painful burst, and glare in the direction of three bakas.
"You!" I hiss and instinctly reach for my compact, only to find it gone. I see BF reach for hers, only to find it missing.
Bean grins evilly and shrugs modestly. "So glad you recognized us."
"How could I forget the person I hate most?" I ask calmly. So calmly that his face falls into a frown.
"You don't hate me," he dismisses with a hand wave but I hear the sadness in his voice.
"Why not? You've given me plenty of reasons to," I shrug and Bean glares.
"And those aren't even the beginning," Bull admits, glancing at BF who has taken a seat on the floor.
"I hear you locked up you're own brother?" I tempt but Bean just shrugs.
"He wouldn't fit," he explains.
"Why? Because he has the capability to love?" I say with a smirk. Beans frown deepens.
"She's right," BF says, startling us. "You know how to get it, but you're exemplary at loosing it."
"Shut up!" Biscuit hisses. I realized that his voice was weak and wavering...easy pickings.
"Where's you're lover, Biscuit. Oh wait, she never loved you...did she?" I say with a small frown. Biscuits face goes red and he tries to charge Me, but Bean stops him.
"It's not worth it. They'll know what pain is soon enough," Bean whispers, just loud enough to hear but I wasn't done.
"She was the smartest, you know. She knew what you really were...even if you didn't," I start. Suddenly Bean jumps and smacks me right across the cheek, causing even more pain. I stare at him, shocked and gently touch my cheek.
"We have more important things to do and you have people to see," Bean dismisses, dusting of his hands and walking away. BF stands up, angry.
"A monster, Kaii!" she shouts. Biscuit stops and turns to stare at her. "She thinks you're a monster!"
Bean growls and grabs Biscuit, dragging him out. The door slams shut and I slide down to the floor.
"Best?" BF asks.
"What?" I whisper, barely able to speak.
"What does he mean by 'people to meet'?" BF asks quietly. I stare at a bar across from me and shrug.
"I don't know, but who cares? It's over." I say and tuck my legs to my chest.
I was so defeated that when the gas keeled into our cages I didn't even try to fight it off, just let it consume me.
