Chapter. 30

Running as fast as her legs could carry her, TaiFeng and the others rushed into the cave.

"Wen Chao *huff* cut the ropes." She said, catching her breath.

"That bastard!" Zixuan cursed.

"How are we going to get out of here?!" A Jiang disciple cried.

"I'm sure our parents will come and get us! They'll know what to do!" A Jin disciple said, sounding so hopelessly hopeful.

"Our parents don't even know your here. It's highly unlikely that anyone will rescue us." Xichen said bluntly.

"The only option is to fight our way out." TaiFeng added.

"But how will we get out of here once we defeat that thing?" Huaisang said, crouching down, head hung low.

"Maple leaves." TaiFeng said rummaging through her qiankun pouch and pulling out her sword.

Everyone was confused.

"Oh! There were maple leaves on the surface of the water, but there weren't any trees in the cave." Wei Ying said.

"Meaning that there's probably a hole at the bottom for the leaves to come through." Huaisang added.

"But the main problem is how are we going to get past that thing?" A disciple chimed in.

"I think the best option would be to wait for now and tend to the wounded first." ChenHe said, taking out a small mahogany medicine box out of his qiankun pouch.

"And after that, we can salvage all the arrows and swords that the Wens left behind." YiZhang added.

"A'Liang can use his arrows to distract it, while I dive down and assess the exit point." Gao Song added.

"They grow up so fast." TaiFeng said, wiping away a fake tear before turning serious.

"Let's kill a monster tortoise.... Never thought I would ever say those words in that order."

While ChenHe tended to everyone's wounds, YiZhang and a few Jin disciples went and gathered the leftover arrows and swords that would definatly come in handy.

Huddling in a group with TaiFeng were Jiang Cheng, Xichen, Lan Zhan, Wei Ying and Zixuan.

They were all discussing the best way to defeat it.

"I was thinking about it, and there's no way well able to pierce it's skin from the outside." Wei Ying said, scratching his nose.
"But if I went on the inside maybe I could kill it."

"Wei Ying!" TaiFeng and Lan Zhan simultaneously said.

"If anybody's going inside that thing it's going to be me." TaiFeng firmly stated.

"Er-jie, are you kidding me?! Your already hurt!" Jiang Cheng yelled.

"TaiFeng! You can't be serious. Jiang Cheng is right, your injured." Xichen said.

"ChenHe already treated my wounds, and my cultivation isn't so weak that I can't do this." She replied, leaving no room for any argument.

"Xichen-ge, I'll be fine. It's just an overgrown tortoise, how bad could it possibly be?" She shrugged.

Even after inccesent arguing with Xichen and both her brothers, TaiFeng didn't budge on her choice.

"We'll be attacking first thing tomorrow, but right now everyone needs to recuperate." Zixuan said, sitting down.

Looking up at the dank dusty cave, TaiFeng let out a long sigh. She was exhausted, her bones were aching and she could feel the bags under her eyes.

Trying not to let her spirits get dampened, she closed her eyes and thought of the one thing that always seemed to give her the strength to carry on.

Hearing the melody in her head as clear as day, she inwardly smiled. Soon she was humming without even realising it.

"Er-jie, what song is that?"
Jiang Cheng asked.

"Oh,It's an old song belonging to a forgotten people...."She chuckled, scratching the back of her neck.

"I'm probably the only person alive who knows it."

'If I'm being technical, I am the only person alive, in this era, who knows these songs... So not a complete lie.'

"Well come on then." Wei Ying said.

"...Well come on then, what?"

"You can't just say something like that and then not share the rest of the song!" Wuxian pouted.

TaiFeng just raised an eyebrow at him, but who could say no to those puppy eyes!

"...Ugh, fine, just this once. But don't expect this to be a regular thing!"
She said pointing a finger.

"Sect Leader Qian is going to sing!" Gao Song excitedly whispered.

Clearing her throat, she sang in a soft, low voice that carried so much emotion.

"Far over the Misty Mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day,
To find our long forgotten gold."

The cave was silent, hanging attentively on her every word.
The sound of her voice resonating through the humid air.

"The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light."

The disciples listened closely, the song painting a story of a fierce battle, against what, they didn't know. It seemed like a song of loss and heartache.

"The wind was on the withered heath,
But in the forest stirred no leaf:
There shadows lay be night or day,
And dark things silent crept beneath."

Xichen sat silently, listening closely, wondering if TaiFeng had ever seen blazed forests and dark shadows.
There was so much more to her than what was on the surface. Her still waters ran deeper than they would ever know.

"The wind went on from West to East;
All movement in the forest ceased,
But shrill and harsh across the marsh
Its whistling voices were released."

Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying were deep in thought. They didn't really know the person sitting with them, not truly. How many things had she really seen? How many things did really have to go through? From what they knew her life was already filled with suffering. But there was so much more to it than being an orphan and being rejected by her father.

"Farewell we call to hearth and hall.
Though wind may blow and rain may fall,
We must away, ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall"

There was a long and heavy silence, until it was finnaly broken by a Jin disciple.

They timidly asked, raising their hand as if the were in a classroom.

"...Um, what was that part about forgotten gold?"

".............Are you serious?" Taifeng said, while everyone gave that disciple a glare.

"That's all you managed to take away from that song?! Tch, honestly! Let me tell you something, that gold is inside a ancient, mountain stronghold that only opens once a year AND is guarded by a fire breathing Dragon! So good luck getting in there. Oh, and by the way, the gold is cursed. And to top it all off, in order to get there you also have to go through a dark forest filled with giant man eating spiders!"

"I'm sorry, what?  Your trying to tell me that there's a vault of gold somwhere in the mountains guarded by a Dragon? " Zixuan sceptically asked.

"Oh, you misunderstand. There isn't a vault in the mountains." She chuckled.

"Huh, but you just said."

"The entire mountain IS the vault. There more gold in there than in the vaults of all the great sects combined! You could probably fill up the entirety of Yunmeng Lake with gold and still have enough to buy a couple of cities. And a little extra." She said, hand on her chin.

'If I rewrote some of the books and sold them, would that be immoral? It's not like anyone would know.'

All the disciples gasped in astonishment. Did such an amazing place really exist?

"This place... You said in the song it's called the, um, Misty Mountains?" Zixuan asked.

"That sounds incredible, I'd love to visit there one day." Wei Ying said.

"...Didi, were you not listening when I said that there was a curse and a evil Dragon along with giant man eating spiders? "

"Yeah, but if we performed a cleansing ceremony, maybe we could purify the mountain. And I could handle the spiders. " He replied.

"Didi, although I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you would handle the giant spiders just fine, believe me when I say that you can't purify that mountain. Even God couldn't cleanse that." She said, letting him down slowly.

"It's a different type of curse. It corrupts people hearts and souls and slowly drives them mad with greed. It's how the King Under the Mountain died."

"King Under the Mountain?" Xichen asked.

"Well, the mountain range is called the Misty Mountains, but the place were the gold lies is a ancient kingdom called Erebor, which was ruled over by the King Thròr, who was named as King Under the Mountain." She explained, while everyone was listen with intrigue at her story.

"But he had an insatiable greed for gold and eventually it was his downfall. The evil Dragon Smaug, flew in from the south and layed waste to his people, however one day he tried to take back Erebor, but a rival army got there first."

"Greed is truly a terrible thing." Xichen nodded.

"And what happened then? Did the King succeed in defeating the rival army and taking back his kingdom?" ChenHe asked wide eyed.

"And what about the Dragon? What happened to the Dragon!?" YiZhang asked.

"And where is this so-called forest of giant spiders located exactly? I wanna test my strength against those spiders!" Gao Song asked excitedly.

'It's gonna be a long night, isn't it?.'

And so, for the next two and a half  hours, TaiFeng descriptivly explained the entire plot of all three Hobbit movies until everyone, including herself, fell asleep.
