She walked back to her room slowly, being careful to avoid people.
Weaving her way around the intricate hallways, stopping as she saw a group of people dressed in maroon coloured robes.
Hiding behind a pillar she observed them.
'I didn't realise the Baling Ouyang Sect was attending. Well, at least their not that problematic of a sect.'
Her eyes fixed on one disciple in particular. He had his back turned so she couldn't see his face.
'Where have I seen that back before... Curse my goldfish brain!'
The man had pointed to one of the disciples with his left hand, revealing a very familiar prosthetic pinky finger.
"What kind of cultivator loses their sword!? You know what just forget it." Xue Yang yelled at a disciple.
"XUUUUUE YAAAAAANG!" TaiFeng screamed, literally jumping on him and and engulfing him in a bear hug.
"What the heck!? Eh!? What are you doing here?!"
Xue Yang said, prying her off of him while everyone else looked at them in confusion.
"Eh, Xue Yang, you know Yuzhao Long?!" All the disciples yelled.
"I missed you~. But, did you really join the Baling Ouyang Sect?" She said finnaly getting off him.
"Its a long story. But, didn't you get stabbed!? Why are you running around like this?! Your not even wearing enough layers! What if you catch a cold?! You'd think after becoming a sect leader, you would gain some common sense!" He nagged.
"Eeh, since when are you this big of a nag?" She yelled back.
"What happened to the the Xue Yang who was prepared to commit murder over the loss of his pinky finger?! And what do you mean I might catch a cold?! It's July! Only an absolute weakling would manage to catch a cold in July!"
"Why are Xue Yang and Sect Leader Qian fighting like an old married couple?" One of the disciples said.
"WE ARE NOT!" They shouted in unison.
"Ah, sorry, sorry. Sect Leader Qian, we didn't know you and Xue Yang knew each other." The disciple said.
"Know each other? Let me tell you, if it wasn't for me she never would have become a sect leader!" Xue Yang boasted.
"Eeh?! I'm the one that solved the triple murder and found Shangguan Zhu! You just stood there and kept nagging me for candy like a spoilt five year old! I would have been just fine without you!" She yelled back.
"Fine then, be like that. But you aprrouched me, remember?" He huffed.
"Only to stop you from doing something idiotic and reckless!"
"Wow. Is that what you think of me?" He dramaticlly gasped.
"I'm truly at a loss for words."
And despite him being at a loss for words, they continued to yell at each other for the next ten minutes.
"These two just don't run out of insults, do they?" A disciple said, watching the two have at it.
"Its more entertaining than any theatre show I've ever seen." Another laughed, as he took out a bag of peanuts.
"What's going on here? TaiFeng everyone's been looking for you. Turns out you were here." Zixuan said followed by Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng.
"Eh, A'Hong, who's this? And more importantly why are you two fighting like an old married couple?" Wuxian laughed.
"We. Are. Not." She said annoyed.
"Remember the Xue Yang guy I told you about."
"I thought you said Xue Yang was like an overgrown kitten? Who's this homicidal looking guy?" Jiang Cheng snorted.
"YOU SAID WHAT?!" Xue Yang roared.
"Well, it's not completely false. You do kind of look like at kitten when you smile." She muttered.
"............"
"I give up. I can't win against this."
"Back to the more pressing matters at hand." Zixuan cleared his throat.
"We, uh, heard about what happened with Sect Leader Yao... You good?"
"Eh, I'm fine. At least I didn't get beaten half to death." She replied.
Everyone was visibly upset by her choice of words.
"Oh, hey I just remembered, there's some leftover braised pork belly from this morning." Wuxian awkwardly laughed.
"I bought some wine as well. Although it's not as good as Emperor's smile."
"There's pork belly? That's it, we're having a drinking party! Xue Yang, your coming with! Jiang Cheng , go and get Huaisang and the others!" She said linking arms with one very unwilling Xue Yang.
"Tonight, we'll drink until our cups wear down!"
"Hey, let me go, I'm not going to your dumb drinking party!" Xue Yang complained.
"Ah, that's such a shame. I was going to ask the kitchen if there was any candies leftover from the banquet."
She sighed.
"But oh well, if you don't want to come I understand. I won't force you, I guess I'll just eat it all by myself."
"Ugh, fine, I'll go! But only because there's candy involved." He conceded.
They all went back to Zixuans room, and he ordered the servants to bring at least eight different plates of food. This time he was prepared for TaiFeng's appetite.
"I've brought everyone! Now let the fun begin." Wuxian said walking in with Guangyao, MianMian and Huaisang
After two drinks Jiang Cheng started going on about how he'll never find love.
After four drinks Huaisang started dancing to no music.
After six drinks MianMian started seeing double.
After eight drinks Guangyao tried to swap robes with Zixuan.
After ten drinks Zixuan started reciting poetry but kept getting the words mixed up.
After twelve drinks Wuxian and Xue Yang started loudly singing drinking songs.
After fourteen drinks TaiFeng lost her brain to mouth filter and just started saying whatever popped into her head at the time.
"Hey, peacock, let's all become sworn siblings! Huaisang you can be my little brother! A'Yao, you too! Huh, can MianMian be my sibling as well? How many sworn siblings can someone have anyway? Are there rules and regulations? Is there like, a limit or something? I need to know!"
TaiFeng drunkenly yelled.
"Hey, Wuxian, did Lan Zhan tell you how he feels yet? Come on~ I want to see little Wei Wuxians and Lan Wangji's running around. I want to be an auntie!"
"Wuxians a guy! What's he gonna do, give birth?" Jiang Cheng snorted.
"Hey! What makes you think I'm going to be the one giving birth?!" Wuxian yelled while Jiang Cheng just snickered.
"They can always adopt." Huaisang laughed as he drank water trying his best to sober up before his Da-ge found out that he was drinking.
"Huaisang, when are you getting married? Because let me tell you if you have kids, I'll spoil them rotten. I'll buy sooooo many gifts for them! My father never bought me anything."
She slightly sniffed.
"Your father? I thought you said that you never knew your parents." Wuxian asked, aside from Huaisang, he was the only one who was somewhat sober.
"Nope, but once I found out who my real father was. I travelled soooo far to meet him! But when I got there do you know what happened?"
She had drawn everyone's attention and they were all looking at her.
"Once I told him I was his daughter, he looked at me like I was a steaming pile of horse shit. Haha, he didn't want to have anything to do with me! I, mean, the guy wouldn't even hear what I had to say, he just shut the door on me. Apparently he had a much nicer family now, with a beautiful wife and cute kids. He was rich as well." He smile slowly began to fade.
"He called me ugly, just like that damn Sect Leader Yao....I guess I just wasn't good enough for either of them." She said lowering her head onto the table before finnaly falling asleep.
The atmosphere was heavy afterwards. Nobody quite knew what to do so Wuxian just carried her over to a nearby bed.
Then and there they all made a silent vow. The vowed to never let TaiFeng feel that sad ever again.
"Ugh, my head feels like mush!" TaiFeng groaned, waking up the next morning.
"Please, for the love of everything holy, no loud noises. My brain can't take it." Jiang Cheng replied, rolling around on the floor.
"Exactly how much did we all drink?" Zixuan mumbled helping Guangyao up.
"If I had to guess, maybe eighteen jars, give or take. Could be more though." MianMian said trying to find her shoes.
"Has anyone seen my throwing knives?" Xue Yang said, coming out from under a table.
"Not me. Has anyone seen my fan?" Huaisang said, fixing his messy hair.
"Oh, found it! No throwing knives though. "TaiFeng said pulling out a fan from underneath some blankets.
"But my knives!" Xue Yang yelled.
"Sssshhhh!" Jiang Cheng replied.
"No loud noises.... where's Wuxian?"
"Knowing him, he's probably the only one who's sober." MianMian sighed, putting on her shoes.
"Does anyone remember anything from last night? My eyeballs hurt." TaiFeng said, rubbing her eyelids.
They all kind of went quiet at that, since they all knew why her eyes hurt.
"Maybe you got some dust in them or something like that?" Jiang Cheng replied.
"That seems more like a question then an answer, but okay, let's go with that." She mumbled.
"Hello everyone!" Wuxian yelled, bursting though the door.
"Loud noises! For the love of god, just be quiet!" Jiang Cheng screamed.
"I figured you would all be like this so I ordered some hangover soup from the kitchen." He said gesturing to the large pot of soup in his hands.
"Wei Ying, you're an absolute angel and the world doesn't deserve you." TaiFeng said, slipping out of the bed to have some soup.
"Hey, where are all my hairpins?" She said. Her hair was all out and down to her hips.
"You kept complaining about how annoying it was to try to sleep with your hair up, so at some point you yelled 'Screw it!' and started taking all the hairpins out." Wuxian explained, as he was serving the soup.
"Yeah, that sounds like something I would do." She said.
"My shiny knives." Xue Yang sniffed facing a corner.
"Oh my God! I'll compensate you for the knives, now will you quit moping!" Taifeng sighed.
"I should have left you in that abandoned house where you were staying."
"But you didn't~" He smirked, finnaly getting up.
"How did the Baling Ouyang Sect accept someone like you?" Jiang Cheng scoffed.
"I saved some disciples from getting robbed." He replied.
TaiFeng raised her eyebrow so high it almost got stuck in her hair.
"... Okay, well it was more like I saw them getting held up from nearby and then thought 'Hey they have a lot of valuables on them, I'll just beat these robbers up and then steal their belongings for myself'. But then they offered to treat me to a meal, and well, one thing lead to another and here I am."
"Only you would manage to turn that situation into something like that." TaiFeng said
"Your taste in friends is rather... interesting." Zixuan added.
"I'm friends with you, aren't I?." She replied.
"Touchè."
"Oh, by the way a servant gave this to me on the way here." Wuxian said, pulling a small wooden box from his robes.
"Apparently it's from, some guy named, uh, Yinxian, I think."
"Do you mean Yunxuan?" TaiFeng asked.
"Yeah, that's it!"
"How could you mess that up so badly?" MianMian said as she took her share of soup.
"Isn't that Sect Leader Yao's son?" Guangyao questioned.
She opened the box to find a small blood jade pendant with a Dragon carved into it.
Inside was a note that read as such.
'I'm really sorry about my father's behaviour yesterday. He tends to get mad easily. This probably won't make up for all the things he said but it's all that I could afford.
Extremly sorry, Yao Yunxuan.
"What's it say?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Nothing much, he's just apologising for his father's behaviour yesterday. At least he has manners." She said tying the pendant to her belt.
"If I didn't have a sect to run, I might of accepted the marriage proposal."
She laughed.
Everyone looked at her.
"Guys, he's three years younger than me. Relax."
"Wait, three years?....Then doesn't that mean?!" Wuxian screamed.
"Mean what?" Everyone questioned.
"Your eighteen?!" Wuxian yelled.
"Um, yeah, last time I checked. Why is this shocking?" She replied.
"Jiang Cheng, she's older than the both of us. She's not my little sister anymore!" He cried.
"Huh, I guess your right. " She mused.
"I guess I'm your Er-jie now!"
"Well that's interesting. Guess we'll be calling you Er-jie from now on." Jiang Cheng said.
"How can you be so relaxed at this!? We no longer have a little sister!"Wuxian yelled back.
"Will you stop over reacting!
If anything, it's your fault for automatically assuming she was younger than us!" Jiang Cheng yelled.
"He's got you there." MianMian chuckled.
"Im going to miss you two with your endless bickering. I have to go back to YueYang today." TaiFeng groaned.
"At least I'll have plenty of disciples to train when I get back."
"Hey, A'Yao, you know a lot about these things. What are the requirements for becoming one of the major sects?" She asked.
"Well, according to my knowledge, in order to become a major sect you would need to have at least six square miles of territory." He said.
"That's great, all of YueYang Town is Sect territory, along with the woods behind the sect. What else?"
"You need to have at least fifteen disciples under tutelage."
"How many do you have now?" MianMian asked.
"Right now it's just four, but apparently there are some new cultivators who camped outside the front gates once the news that I'm a Sect Leader got out. According to ChenHe there's about thirty or so of them."
"Then that's kind of meeting the requirements." Wuxian said.
"You also need to have set rules and guidelines for all the disciples to follow. Also you should have a motto, although that's optional." He finished.
"Hah, I wrote the rules months ago! And as for a motto I already have one in mind. "Show compassion and protect the innocent." Pretty good, right?" She proudly said.
"Show compassion and protect the innocent. It's a great motto." Zixuan complemented.
"I agree. It's perfect." Huaisang added.
"Although, I can't go back to YueYang dressed like this." She said pointing down at her purple robes.
"Oh, right. I forgot to tell you that I ordered some robes yesterday, I mean, it is kind of my fault that the got ruined in the first place." Zixuan said.
"Kind of ?" Jiang Cheng whispered which earned him a slap on the arm from TaiFeng.
"Thanks a lot."
They had all gathered in a courtyard to have lunch before setting off for Gusu.
"I got to hand it to you Zixuan. You've got taste in clothing." TaiFeng said, walking side by side with Zixuan in her new robes.
"These are even better than the previous ones! The fabric feels nicer as well."
"I'm just glad this is all it takes to earn your forgiveness." Zixuan said.
"Zixuan, for the last time, there is nothing for me to forgive. It was my choice to protect you, and I don't regret what I did.... But thanks for the robes." She replied as they took their seats.
"Make sure you don't forget to write to us all." MianMian said, taking some osmanthus cakes.
"Don't worry, I won't forget. I'll try and visit you guys when you light lanterns at the back hill." TaiFeng said.
"We're lighting lanterns?" Zixuan and MianMian asked.
TaiFeng simply winked at them.
"Again with the vagueness." Guangyao sighed.
"A'Hong, be honest with us, are you really able to see into the future." Wuxian asked.
'Maybe it's for the best. Wangji already knows anyway.'
"If I told you that I know about everything that happens in the next eighteen years, would you all believe me?"
"...Are you being serious about this?" Jiang Cheng said.
"....I wish I wasn't. But I actually can see the future, although I don't know everything. I only know what I've been shown, which is a lot."
She explained.
"This is incredible! You can actually see all our futures!" Wuxian gasped.
"Then how does mine turn out?" Zixuan said in astonishment.
TaiFeng couldn't look him in the eyes, and just stared at the table while whispering "Not great."
"Not great? What's that mean? Does he gain weight?" Wuxian jokingly laughed until he saw the tears forming in her eyes.
"... Er-jie, your scaring us. Just how bad is the future?"
"I'll be frank with you all. In the future, a war will start. Many lives will be lost, most will be cultivators but many will be innocent civilians. Countless battles are fought, all of them are filled with bloodshed. We win in the end, but too many lives are lost for it to be considered a victory. Yunmeng and Gusu suffer the most."
"What do you mean Yunmeng suffers the most?!" Jiang Cheng screamed, while Zixuan MianMian and Guangyao looked deathly pale.
"Calm down, Jiang-xiong. Let TaiFeng finish." Huaisang intervened, but you could see the grip on his fan tightening.
"Every time I walked the halls of Lotus Pier, I could see their pain filled faces. And every time I looked at the scenery in Cloud Resseses all I see are flames." She started to sniff.
"Even when I look at Shijie and Wei Ying, sometimes all I can see is the life draining from their eyes!" She burst into tears.
"A-jie dies? Lotus Pier falls?" Jiang Cheng whispered.
"Wei-xiong dies?" Huaisang muttered to himself.
"I've been trying to change things all on my own for the past few months. I never asked for this! I never wanted this curse of always knowing what's going to happen!
I wish I could go back to being ignorant of everything... I can't win this war alone."
Wuxian stood up filled with determination.
"Er-jie, listen closely. You are not alone in this. There is no way on earth I'm letting anyone I care about die. The Wens can try their best, but like you said we win the war. But his time we're going to change things for the better."
"We're all going to change things for the better." Zixuan said, standing up.
They all got up with fire in their eyes and confidence in their hearts.
"Are you guys sure about this? War isn't a game." TaiFeng said, wiping her tears.
"We're all well aware. But that's not going to stop us. You can't do this alone." Jiang Cheng said.
TaiFeng rummaged through her qiankun pouch and took out a large piece of folded paper.
"Then in that case, take this back to Yunmeng to show Sect Leader Jiang. It's a map of Lotus Pier. I've marked all the areas which would be considered most vulnerable if we were attacked. I've also added some defence ideas. Wei Ying, I'll leave inventing talismans up to you. I trust you'll make something lethal and destructive. " She smiled at him.
"You can count on me." He affirmed.
"There's really just one thing left. The Dafan Wens."
"Jiang Cheng, while your at Lotus Pier give this to Wen Qing." She said pulling out a letter addressed to the master healer.
"Tell her that I know about her situation and that I'm willing to offer her and her people refuge."
She stood up with more determination than she had ever felt before.
Hearing a slight shuffle she turned around to see Wangji standing there like a default sim, unsure of what to do.
"Aiya, Lan Zhan. Where you there the whole time? I thought eavesdropping was prohibited in the Lan Sect." Wuxian said.
"Wangji-xiong, did you, uh, hear what we were talking about?" Huaisang nervously asked.
"Guys, relax, I told him yesterday." TaiFeng said.
"Mn. Know about TaiFeng's premonitions." He answered.
"Wei Ying, have something to tell you."
Everyone stopped to look at him.
'Is this it? Oh my God, it's really happening. I'm about to witness the birth of one of the greatest power couples of all time!'
"Eh, what is it, Lan Zhan?" Wuxian asked.
Lan Zhan just stared at him, slightly shifting on the spot.
"I want to tell you." He said, while everyone was on the edge of their seats.
"You want to tell me?"
He didn't even finish the sentence before throwing a piece of paper at Wei Ying and running away, the tips of his ears a burning red.
'Well. That was familiar.'
"What does it say?! What does it say?!" Everyone clamoured around.
Wei Ying opened the note to reveal the words 'I like you' written in perfect penmanship.
"AT LAST! XICHEN-GE AND I CAN STOP PLAYING MATCHMAKER!" TaiFeng yelled, throwing her hands up to the sky in triumph.
"You guys were setting us up?!" Wuxian yelled.
"Not just them, although TaiFeng beat me to it." Huaisang whispered.
"Hold on." Zixuan said, with a serious tone, making them all stop to look at him.
"Do you all have any idea what this means?"
"W-what does it mean e-exactly?" Wuxian stuttered.
"TaiFeng can see into the future."
"Yeah, we know, she said it like two minutes ago." Jiang Cheng eye rolled.
"But do you know what else that means?" He said, clentching his fists, face down to the floor.
"What does it mean? Peacock, your scaring me." TaiFeng gulped.
"You...You."
"YOU KNEW IN ADVANCE THAT THE WENS WERE ATTENDING LECTURES!! I WANT MY FIVE SILVER BACK!" He yelled.
" Are you seriously still hung up on that?!?! What are you, poor?!?!" TaiFeng yelled back.
"Its just five silver! You spend twelve times that amount in a single day, how is that important?!?!"
"Its the principle of it!" He indignantly screamed, while everyone else was trying to hold in thier laughter.
"You lied! Intuition and common sense, my ass! You've been cheating this entire time! I bet you knew about the Chang Sect leaders cime this whole time, as well."
"So what if i knew what was going to happen at certain points in time. Clairvoyance means nothing if you don't have the intelligence to come up with a plan to change the future! And for your information, Clairvoyance means i can see into the future, not the past, that's Retrocognition! I became Sect Leader all on my own, with nothing but my intuition, thank you very much!" She huffed, crossing her arms.
"Pfft, same thing!"
"Oh, you wanna go?" TaiFeng said, rolling up her sleeves. " A tiger can take on a peacock any day!"
"Ey, ey, ey! Thats enough, both of you." Huaisang, said holding Zixuan back, while both Jiang Cheng, Wuxian and A'Yao barely held TaiFeng back by her sleeves.
"You were stabbed less than two days ago! How are you still this strong?!" Wuxian said, digging his heels into the floor to get a better grip.
"Ugh, fine , we can fight some other time." She conceded, sitting back down and passively stuffing her face with moon cakes. While Zixuan sat down opposite her, drinking tea like a fish, not making eye contact.
"But right now." She said turning serious.
"We have a war to win."
