Chapter. 18
Note: I know a lot of the characters are pretty ooc but this is the way I've chosen to write the fanfic.
Also do you want TaiFeng to end up in a relationship, or not?
And if your answer is yes, then who with? I'd love to hear your replies.
"Are you two sure about this?" Wuxian said.
"You won't know until you try. But right now there are more pressing matters at hand." She said holding her stomach.
"The tiger must be fed."
"I'll let everyone know the beast has awakened." Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and went to get everyone.
"Tell them the beast craves braised pork belly!" She shouted.
"Eh, Wei Ying, help me sit up."
"So how were things after Su Minshan tried to erase my existence? Did you guys manage to handle it? More importantly, what did Jin Guangshan do?"
"How is that more important?" Wuxian said helping her sit up.
"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I'm curious to see what he did about it. After all, a Sect Leader was injured under his watch in his own sect. He'll either take responsibility or he'll probably find a scapegoat. So which one was it?"
"He blamed the head of servants for letting someone like Su Minshan into their midst." Wuxian replied.
"He also sent you lots of gifts as an apology."
"Gifts? Like what?"
She said wearily.
"Mainly dresses and jewellery. But there were a couple of nice paintings as well."
"Ugh, again with the tacky dresses and hedious jewellery!"
TaiFeng loudly groaned.
"Why does this man insist on spending his wealth and showering me with gaudy items?! Can't he just send me the money instead?
It's not like I'll suddenly change my mind about him and beg on my knees to become his one hundredth concubine!"
"WHAT?! HE WANTS YOU TO BECOME HIS CONCUBINE?!" Wuxian screamed.
"Who's becoming a concubine?"
Zewu-Jun worriedly questioned, walking into the room with Zixuan, Jiang Cheng ,and Meng Yao who were all carrying plates of food.
"Jin Zixuan, Jin Guangyao, let me tell you this." Wuxian shot up and pointed at both of them.
"If your father does anything to TaiFeng I'll, I'll."
"Raise an army of the dead and seige Koi Tower?" TaiFeng wryly suggested.
"Yeah, I'll do that!"
"Will you stop over reacting? It's not like he actually asked me or said it." TaiFeng sighed.
"What did my father do?" Zixuan sternly asked.
"Well, I, uh, he didn't really do or say anything. It's just, well, his actions were, well , implying certain things, that's all." She said looking down at her hands.
"Implying what exactly?" Jin Guangyao pryed further.
"This isn't the first time he's sent TaiFeng gifts." Zewu-Jun revealed.
"What do you mean?! Is he planning something or what?!" Jiang Cheng yelled.
"Don't overreact. Any of you."
She said voice low and laced with venom. They all stopped and stared.
They had never heard her this serious before, it was kind of terrifying.
"Do you really think someone like Jin Guangshan is any match for me? Be it physically or mentally, I am superior.
Wei Wuxian, Jiang Wanyin, I'm not the same person that I was when you had taken me in." She said standing up slowly, using the bed for support.
"I am the Sect Leader of the YueYang Qian Sect. And I am Yuzhao Long."
She said standing with her head held high.
"If anyone tries to plot against me, whether their a sect leader or a diety, I will make them suffer a fate far worse than death."
"Jin Guangshan can try and seduce me all he wants!" She laughed.
"At the end of it all, the only thing he'll get out of it is having his ego shattered."
"No offence." She said looking at Zixuan and Guangyao.
".... I won't try and stop you." Guangyao gulped.
"In fact I'll join you." Zixuan scoffed.
"Its no secret my father sleeps around. If you want to chop his parts off I won't intervene."
"But enough of that." She said, going over to the table, and digging in to the food.
"I'm pretty sure the entire cultivation world is in an uproar right now, so I need to look after the Sect. YiZhang and the others can't do everything on their own now that our existence is known to the public."
She sighed as she picked the carrots out of her fried rice.
"Xichen-ge, unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to attend lectures any longer."
"I understand. I'll inform Uncle about your situation." Zewu-Jun reassured.
"But class is going to be so boring without you there." Wuxian whined.
"She can't just abandon her sect just because you're bored!"Jiang Cheng yelled.
"Alright, enough fighting. When did the doctor say I can leave?"
"In three days, the doctor said you can move around though. As long as you don't over do it. The banquet hasn't technically ended yet either." Zixuan sighed.
"Someone was stabbed and these people still care about a banquet?" Wuxian remarked.
"Its just the way things are. Banquets among cultivator sects are never just about having a good time. There's always something to be done at these parties, whether it's discussing pressing issues or fishing for alliances, nobody really goes to these things for the party itself." TaiFeng explained.
"I couldn't have said it better myself." Zewu-Jun said.
The rest of the day consisted of TaiFeng sitting in the infirmary and talking with everyone who came to visit.
She was about to go and take a nap, when she heard a knock on the door.
'Hm, everyone else has already visited. Did Huaisang forget his fan again?'
Adjusting her hanfu that she borrowed from Yanli, she walked over to the door.
Opening it, she expected to see Huaisang asking shyly if she had seen his fan.
Instead she was greeted by Sect Leader Yao.
"Ah, Yuzhao Long. I hope I'm not disturbing you." He bowed.
'Yes. Yes you are. Very much so. Please just leave and let me become one with my bed.'
"Not at all. Was there something that I can help you with?" She fake smiled.
"Oh, nothing really, I was just wondering if you would be interested in joining me for some tea in the pavilion." He kindly smiled.
'Ugh, I just wanted to sleep but now I have to deal with this scheming waste of oxygen.'
"I'd be delighted." She said, grabbing her sword to leave the room.
In a beautiful pavilion sorounded by flowers she sat down with Sect Leader Yao.
"So, Sect Leader Yao, what is it that you wanted to talk about?" She said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Well, since it's been revealed that you are in fact a sect leader, I was wondering if you would be willing to form an alliance with the Donghao Yao Sect."
According to info the Yao Sect doesn't have a location, so I'm just making up a name.
"Oh, I see. In that case I have no problem with forming one. We can go over the terms now if you'd like."
'Oh. Looks like I was worried for nothing.'
"Ah, Sect Leader Qian, I think you've misunderstood. The kind of alliance I'm talking about is marriage alliance." He said with a expectant smile.
"Marriage? I'm sorry to inform you but I don't have any children. Nor do I have any disciples who are of age."
She said, her smile quickly fading.
"Ah, well you see my son Yao Yunxuan is around your age. Ah, there he is now."
He said, gesturing to a boy across the courtyard.
An average looking boy wearing sect robes then came running towards the two.
"Yunxuan, this is Sect Leader Qian." He introduced his son.
"Yao Yunxuan respectfully greets Sect Leader Qian." He bowed.
Now that she got a closer look at him, he was actually pretty handsome. And he seemed kind as well.
"This is my son Yao Yunxuan."
"As nice as he seems," she said giving a genuine smile to the boy.
"I'm afraid there's no-one in my sect I can marry him off to."
"Father, are you arranging a marriage for me?" The boy worridly questioned.
"Yunxuan, tell me what is your opinion on Sect Leader Qian."
Sect Leader Yao asked.
'I don't like where this is going.'
The boy was confused at the question but answered nonetheless.
"Sect Leader Qian is intelligent and known for her cunning and foresight."
"See, aren't you two a perfect match? Well, what do you two think?" Sect Leader Yao laughed.
"What?! Father I can't get married just yet! There are still so many things that I want to do! And I have responsibilities as head disciple!"
He pleaded.
"Sect Leader Yao, I'm afraid I share Young Master Yao's view on this marriage. I'm a Sect Leader, it would be highly irresponsible of me to go and get married when I have a sect to run. And like Young Master Yao, I also have many things that I wish to achieve before I get married." She said, getting up to leave.
"So my son isn't good enough for you then!? Is that it?! Or are you looking down on the Donghao Yao Sect?!" Sect Leader Yao screamed, attracting everyone's attention.
'Is this guy bipolar or something? Why is he making such a big deal out of this?'
"Father, please calm down. Sect Leader Qian is right, she's got responsibilities as a sect leader. Plus, I'm only fifteen, I'm a little young to get married." Young Master Yao said, trying to calm down his father.
"I agree. I have absolutely no intention marrying someone who's almost four years younger than me."
TaiFeng added.
"Sect Leader Qian, let me tell you, I'll never have an alliance with an abomination like you! Just because you look different, people want to make friends with you."
"Father! That's enough!" The boy shouted.
"Stay out of this, Yunxuan."
He hissed.
"You may think that your beautiful with that mud stained skin and fish eyes but society will never except you. The only reason I wanted to marry my son off to someone like you is so his children could inherit both Donghao Yao and YueYang Qian." He spat.
TaiFeng simply laughed. She laughed and laughed until there were tears in her eyes and her mouth hurt from smiling.
"Did I ask for your opinion on my looks?" She said finally composing herself.
"I'm the one who doesn't need your alliance, not the other way round. Besides, aren't you one of those people who only try to make friends with me because of the way I look? Also, I don't give a damn what you have to say about my looks, it doesn't have anything to do with my ability to lead my sect." She chuckled.
"And even if I did agree to this marriage, MY children wouldn't be inheriting both sects. As I am sect leader, it's only natural for MY children would be heirs to the YueYang Qian Sect." She said, turning around to leave.
"So pardon my transgressions, but I would rather pitch myself off of the roof of Koi Tower, than marry into your Sect."
She said with a flick of her robes, exuding confidence as she gracefully walked away.
It was now night time and she was taking a walk around Koi Tower to clear her head.
'Uuuuuugh, why did I do that? I could have just walked away, but, noooooo, I had to go all anime antagonist on him.'She sighed inwardly.
' And now I have an enemy, not just one either. Now the entire sect is probably going to hate me.'
Everyone in Koi Tower most likely knew about her little 'verbal altercation', as she was calling it.
As she breathed in the warm July air she spotted a small seating area.
Sitting down she took out Xingguang from her qiankun pouch and started to play the Song of Tranquillity to ease her nerves.
She delicately strummed the strings as if they were made of her hopes and dreams, being extremely careful, so they wouldn't shatter into a million pieces.
She was so caught up in the melody that she didn't even notice the tears streaming down her face.
No. She noticed, she just didn't care.
It didn't matter if anyone saw her, she just wanted to get it all out and get on with her life.
She had more important things to do than play her zither while bawling her eyes out like a helpless maiden.
The pale moonlight shone on her face, her tears glistening with an ethereal glow. Her face remaining stoic, unmoving. Unaware of the other presence in the courtyard.
"Sect Leader Qian?" Wangji said from behind her.
Startled she quickly stopped playing and wiped her tears away.
"Oh, it's just you. If I didn't know any better I would assume that you like sneaking up on me." She wryly chuckled.
"Is Sect Leader Qian okay?" He said stoicly, but his voice had a slight hint of concern.
He had never seen her sad before. She was always smiling and joking with her friends, not crying by herself in an empty courtyard.
"I think we've known each other long enough for you to just call me TaiFeng." She smiled.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"No reason in particular. I just needed to vent."
"Xiongzhang and the others are looking for you." He replied.
"Then they know what happened with Sect Leader Yao?" She asked.
"Mn." He nodded.
"Wangji, can I tell you a secret? But you've got to promise not to tell anyone." She said twiddling her thumbs.
"Promise." Wangji replied.
"I actually can see the future. It's not just educated guesses. I know about all the events that happen in the next eighteen years." She admitted.
"... Is this true?" He replied.
"Yep, call it a blessing or a curse. But the things I've seen aren't good. Everyone's future is bleak, especially Wei Yings."
Wangji's eyes went wide at this.
"What happens to Wei Ying?"
"I can't say much, but, just know that it isn't good. Alot of people we care about die in a war with the Wens. In all honesty I don't know If I can do this alone." She said shedding some more tears.
"The war hasn't even started yet and I'm already up to my neck in responsibilities. But I have to protect everyone, I have to change things."
She said getting up to leave.
"Wangji, I'll be honest. Your future with Wei Ying will end horribly if you don't get you feelings out in the open... He likes you too, y'know. "
Wangji's entire face went bright red.
Looking down at his robes, he quietly nodded.
"Mm. Will tell him."
"I'll leave it up to you then." She said walking off.
"By the way." She said turning around to face Wangji and pointed a finger.
"If you cause a misunderstanding and break his heart, I'll make sure you die a graveless death. Understand?"
Wangji gulped and deeply nodded.
"Would never hurt Wei Ying." He replied.
"I believe you." She said, turning the corner.
