Chapter. 15
The disiples whispered among themselves before coming to a desision.
"We've dicided we'd like to stay and help you rebuild the sect.
"Well, then I suppose I should know all your names." She smiled.
One boy stepped forward.
"Greeting Yuzhao Long." He bowed.
"My name's Wang YiZhang and I'm currently the head disiple."
He had a confident aura, and he seemed capable.
"My name's Gao Liang, and I'm Gao Song. It's nice to meet you!" The two brothers said, bursting with energy.
"I'm Xiao ChenHe. Greetings Sect Leader Qian." The boy said politely. He reminded her of A'Yuan with his kind demeanour.
The entire day consisted of TaiFeng touring the Sect grounds.
The decor was tacky, the gardens were dirty and it was overall pretty small. But she could have the place renovated.
"And here's Former Sect Leader's study." Wang YiZhang said, guiding her into a poorly decorated study.
After looking around she came across a small pile of papers, looking through it she found property deeds in Lanling, Qinghe and Qishan!
It looks like the sect leader was buying up private holiday homes with funds that should have gone towards the sect.
'This is perfect! Once I sell all of these, I'll have enough money to make this place even more glamorous than the Jin Sect!'
"YiZhang, do you know any property realtors? I think if we sell these properties, we should be able to renovate this place."
She said handing him the papers.
"I have an uncle who sells homes for a living, I'm sure he'd be able to sell all these places."
He answered, looking through the papers.
"That's great, also if you could find some movers to transport all the belongings from each of the houses, that would be great. We can probably sell them for some extra cash."
"Yes, Sect Leader Qian." He said leaving the study.
"Sect Leader Qian, huh? I like the sound of that. But I guess I should start dressing like one. And I should look into purchasing new sect robes."
After a few hours she had got everything in order. So far she had designed new sect robes along with a new emblem, and taught the disiples how to use the Jin Sects butterfly communication talismans, which Zixuan showed her how to use.
She also reorganised the study and library and showed her new disiples how to do the Fleeting Dragon Steps.
By the time she finished up it was almost eight o'clock.
"Well, I have to fly back to Gusu Lan now, but if you need anything, you can use the butterflies to contact me.
Once I finish lectures, I'll come and join you guys and start living here."
"Farewell, Sect Leader Qian!" They all bowed as she mounted her sword and flew off.
It was almost nine when she got back to Cloud Resseses.
Sneaking around, as to avoid anyone, she made her way to her dorm room.
Before she could open her door she was startled by a very worried Wuxian, followed by Jiang Cheng, Nie Huaisang, Jin Zixuan, MianMian and Meng Yao.
"Where were you?!" They all shouted.
"You disappeared in the middle of the night, without leaving so much as a note! Zewu-Jun was prepared to start a search party! You even managed to worry Lan Qiren!" Jiang Cheng screamed.
"How did you even manage to get out anyway? And just where did you go?" Wuxian said.
"You nearly gave everyone a heart attack! Everyone was running around like headless chickens trying to find you!" Zixuan said.
"You scared us half to death. We really thought something bad had happened to you." MianMian sighed.
"Now, now, calm down everyone. I'm sure TaiFeng had a good reason to leave so abruptly." Meng Yao added.
"Damn right I do! But since I'm to goddamn tired to explain it to you all just read this instead." She said throwing the Magistrates documents at Wuxians head.
Walking into her room she flopped down, head first on to her bed, not even bothering to change her robes.
She could hear them all screaming in the hallway but she didn't care. She just wanted to sleep.
"Are these documents real?" Huaisang questioned, unable to wrap his head round this.
"They look real. Look it's even got the official stamp in the bottom right corner." Zixuan said, carefully inspecting the document
"Qian TaiFeng, you'd better explain this!" Jiang Cheng roared, walking into the room.
"There's nothing to explain. Chang Li Huang was guilty of murder and was convicted, however they didn't want the YueYang Chang Sect legacy to end with him, so they gave it all to me." She said, getting up to sit on her bed and face them all.
"Your now looking at the youngest Sect Leader in the cultivation world."
She said wearily, the severity of her decision finnaly settling in.
She didn't know anything about running a sect!
'Why did I do this? Why do I torture myself like this? What is wrong with me? I need help.'
" Also, I'd appreciate if you six could keep this a secret for now. I intend to tell Zewu-Jun , Lan Qiren and Qingheng-Jun tomorrow, but for now I really need some sleep." She said crashing back down into her pillow.
"So yesterday, when you said that you were solving a triple murder...You were telling the truth?" Wuxian asked.
"I do that quite a lot, yet people are always surprised."
She said, lying down on her back.
"Now let me rest, I have a whole sect to run and I need my beauty sleep!"
Over in the Lanling Jin Sect.
Sect Leader Jin was relaxing in his throne, when a disciple walked in with some news.
"Sect Leader Jin,we recently received a letter from one of the disciples attending lectures in Gusu."
"Huh, go on then, what's the news."
He lazily replied.
"Apparently, there's a rather curious person who goes by the name of Qian TaiFeng attending lectures as a guest disciple of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. Although she's better known as Yuzhao Long."
"She? Your telling me that Yuzhao Long is a woman? I've heard the rumours, but I thought that Yuzhao Long was a hideous man, that's why he always wears a sedge hat when ever he's in public. But a woman?"
He said scratching an itch as he leaned back in his throne.
"She's far from hideous. According to the letter, she's a rare beauty from the far East, her skin is the tone of a warm sunset and her eyes are big and bright like a new born deer. They even sent a portrait, a rare beauty indeed."
The disciple said handing over a portrait.
It was in perfect likeness of TaiFeng, she was posing with her sword dressed in Gusu lecture robes with a smile on her face.
Sect Leader Jin looked over at the portrait and a look of hunger filled his eyes.
"And you said she's just a guest disciple? Well then that won't do! Have somebody send her some gifts at once! A beauty like this should wear the finest clothes and the most expensive jewellery, not Gusu Lan robes."
He said with a smirk.
"Yes, Sect Leader Jin."
The next day at Gusu Lan.
"Ah, Xichen-ge! Wait up!" TaiFeng said, speed walking towards said man.
Class had finished and she was worn out.
Everybody wouldn't stop asking her questions about where she went and having to come up with a believable lie wasn't an easy task.
She opted to tell them that is was her mother's death anniversary and she had to go and light incense at her grave up in the mountains.
They stopped asking after she told them that.
"TaiFeng, it's nice to see you safe and sound. We were beginning to worry when you disappeared." Zewu-Jun said smiling.
"Ah, sorry about that. But I swear I had a really good reason. Which is what I wanted to talk to you about.
Actually I think Lan Qiren and Qingheng-Jun need to know about this as well. I'm honestly in way over my head." She sighed.
"You;in way over your head? That's something I never thought I'd see." He smiled.
"If you'd like, I could arrange for tea."
"That would be great, thank you."
"Zewu-Jun, there's some Jin disciples at the gate." A disciple ran up towards them.
"That's odd, Clan Leader Jin has no reason to send disciples. Did they say what they wanted?" He questioned.
"They said that Sect Leader Jin had sent some gifts." They answered.
"Gifts? Tell the guards I'll be there." Zewu-Jun dismissed the disciple.
"Is it all right if I accompany you to the gate. I'm quite curious. "TaiFeng asked.
"I was actually going to ask you to come along anyway. Maybe you might be able to figure this out." He said gesturing to the side.
At the gate, there were four Jin disciples waiting on the stairs.
They were carrying two fancy looking chests, one person on either side.
"Can I help you four? I wasn't aware of any occasion that warrants a gift." He smiled, although there was slight irratance in his tone.
"Adressing Zewu-Jun, these are gifts that Sect Leader Jin has sent for Yuzhao Long." The disciple said handing over the chests.
"Last time I checked I'm not on a gift giving basis with your Sect Leader. I've never even been to Lanling, let alone met Jin Guangshan. Why has he sent gifts?" TaiFeng said sharply, crossing her arms, making sure to show her distaste for the sect leader.
'What in the name of Xie Lan is this manwhore up to? The last thing I need right now is having to deal with Jin Guangshan.'
"Answering Yuzhao Long, I'm afraid Sect Leader Jin didn't specify the reason." The disciple said, slightly shifting on the spot.
'They never said she was this intimidating.' He thought.
Xichen and TaiFeng looked at each other with confused looks.
After the disciples left TaiFeng went to sit in a private room with Zewu-Jun while he sent a helper to fetch Lan Qiren and Qingheng-Jun.
"So what do think that was about?" He said pouring some tea.
"Best guess? Jin Guangshan is trying to seduce me." She said reaching out to take the teacup.
Xichen choked on his tea at this.
"Are you sure?" He said taken back at her ability to say things like they are.
"Why else would he send all these tacky robes and gaudy jewellery?" She sighed, massaging her temples.
"Oh, well, at least I can have YiZhang sell these for some extra cash."
"YiZhang? Who's that?"
He asked.
They were interrupted by the door opening to reveal Lan Qiren and Qingheng-Jun.
"Xichen, what did you want to discuss with us?" Qiren said followed by Qingheng-Jun.
"Actually, it was I who wanted to discuss things with you." TaiFeng said taking out the official document from her robes.
"This is unbelievable, even for you!" Zewu-Jun said as they had finished reading it.
"You do realize your now the youngest sect leader in cultivation history." Lan Qiren said, a little exasperated.
"There's a first for everything. I'm currently selling off all of Chang Li Huang's properties in order to renovate the sect. I plan to start recruiting disciples once lectures are over.
But that's not why i needed to talk to you. It's about the Wens."
They all shifted in their seats at this.
"According to my info Wen Rouhan is going to make a move on Cloud Resseses soon after lectures."
"Are you sure of this?" Qingheng-Jun worriedly questioned.
"They don't call me Yuzhao Long for nothing." She smirked.
"I talked to Wei Ying and he said that your barriers could use some strengthening. The first night he arrived he managed to get past them easily. I could also have him design some defence talismans."
"Our barriers are that weak?" Zewu-Jun questioned.
"In all honesty I could destroy them without having to try." She replied.
They all sweatdropped at that.
"I'll leave it up to you then and Young Master Wei then." Qingheng-Jun said.
'Why do people always take me so seriously? I never know what I'm talking about.' She thought, getting up to leave.
'Well, I looks like I'm now the unofficial war strategist of the Gusu Lan Sect. Hah, I should put that on my resume.' She thought, walking around towards the back hill.
She knew the rabbits would be there by now and she needed some fluffy bunny therapy right now.
Sitting down she picked up one of the fluffballs and started gently petting it.
Soon she was surrounded by white clouds of fur.
"Oh, to be a bunny. Let me tell you you guys don't know how good you have it." She said holding one up to her face.
"You guys get to frolic around in this nice field, and eat as much grass as you want. You don't have to worry about war and responsibility. And Wangji will take good care of you guys. Lucky."
As she breathed in the humid air she felt a tug on her waist.
And another.
'What on gods green earth ? Eh, Juexin?'
Her sword started gently pulling her in one direction.
Opting to follow she got up and bid the rabbits farewell.
In led her past trees and up all hills until she arrived at the Cold Pond.
"Why do you want to go here? Wei Ying and Lan Zhan already found the Yin Iron." She asked it.
It started shaking violently and almost came out of her grasp.
"Geez, alright! No need to be bitchy about it. I'm going in, I'm going in, just stop doing that." She said taking off her outer robe and boots.
'I hope nobody shows up now, because I'll just die of shame if anyone sees me.'
She only had a small strip of cloth covering her chest and a short linen underskirt.
If this was 2022, she would would have ate that outfit up and left no crumbs.
However this was ancient China, so, yeah, this was their equivalent to Victoria's Secret.
Wading to the freezing cold water she came to a stop.
'Why did it stop shaking?... Isn't this the same spot from when..'
She didn't get to finish her thought, as she was dragged harshly down under the water.
"Aaah, why?! I thought it was sealed!"
She said getting to her feet, and coughing up water.
"Good God, it's cold!... At least there isn't a White Jade Zither trying to unalive me. That's a plus."
"Oi, Juexin, why did you drag me down here?" She yelled at her sword.
"To have a little chat." The sword replied.
"... Could you just... not talk randomly. Please. It took all my willpower to not scream just then."
Chuckling, the sword flew out of her grasp, and started glowing a bright gold.
And out from it appeared a tall and handsome man with wild red hair.
"Juexin?" She said, eyeing him up and down.
'Holy hell, my sword spirit is hot!'
"Actually my name is Fang Zhishu. I just happen to reside inside of Juexin." He explained.
"Oh, but then who are you? I've never heard of a anyone with the surname Fang." She asked.
"I am from a time long before the Five Great Sects. The Nanjing Fang sect was one of the most powerful sects one thousand years ago. However times change. The sect eventually died out and was forgotten." He explained.
"Ah, I see. But.... why me? You could have chosen anyone else. There are thousands of people who are stronger and smarter than me. The only advantage I have is that I watched the drama. So, why? Why did you choose me?"
"Xiao Jen, I saw something in you that nobody else did, not even yourself. Become the person everyone here already thinks you are. I believe in you, I know you won't fail me."
Xiao means Little, and he's calling her by her real name so it means Little Jennifer.
"I'll try." She said, slightly shaking.
Going towards her he put his hand on her chin and tilted it up to meet his eyes.
"That's my girl." He smiled, before disappearing back into the sword.
"..... WHICH WAY IS THE EXIT?!"
'Stupid, Fang Zhishu, making me blush like that and then just disappearing.' She thought, feeling along the walls for an exit.
"Hold on, is that it? Kyaa!" She yelled falling though the portal and flat onto her face.
"Crap! My precious face! Ouch." She groaned, getting up and dusting herself off.
"Well, at least no one was around to witness that."She sighed, wringing out her soaked hair.
"TaiFeng!" Xichens voice rang out from a small distance.
"And I spoke too soon."
"TaiFeng there you are, uh, um." Xichen said running up to her, and immediately averting his eyes to any where but TaiFeng.
Realizing she only had under garments on she panicked.
"Ah, Xichen-ge, I can explain! I was bathing in the cold spring and then I got swept into a really cold cave. There was nothing in there though! Just ice and cold water! I swear." She panicked, waving her hands around.
'Because that didn't sound suspicious at all.' She mentally eye rolled at herself.
"Ah, I see, um, well, I think I have some spare robes in my qiankun pouch." He said, nervously fiddling about, and pulling out a pair of his own spare robes.
"Um, here, they uh, might be too big though." he said handing over a pair of large blue and white Lan robes and turning around, red faced.
Quickly she put on the oversized robes. The sleeves were enormous with the cloud motif embroidered on with blue thread. The hem was dragging on the floor but she didn't complain.
"Um, thanks a lot Xichen-ge, that would have been pretty embarrassing otherwise." She bashfully replied, scratching the back of her neck.
"It's nothing, really. Don't mention it."
He said, his cheeks still a light shade of pink.
"Um, everyone's been looking for you for an entire day. Shall we go back?"
"Oh, right, I suppose I owe everyone an explanation as to why I disappeared... Again."
Now that he saw TaiFeng in his oversized robes he couldn't help but think about how adorable she looked, fumbling about with the sleeves and lifting up the hems when ever she walked.
He had never seen this side of her before and it brought out a lot of different emotions in him, some he knew, others he didn't, but regardless, he was feeling a lot right now.
"QIAN HONG!"Wuxian screamed as he made his way towards the two, followed by Jiang Cheng and the others.
"I don't even have the energy to be worried anymore. If you disappear again I'll just take a nap and hope you don't die somewhere." Zixuan sighed.
"Don't be like that, she probably did have a good reason to leave so abruptly... Yet again." MianMian said, a little irritated.
"You disappeared! Again! You promised that you would tell us when ever you have something to, wait... Why are you dressed like that?"
Wuxian said, raising an eyebrow, while the others just stared.
"I got caught in an undercurrent while I was bathing in the cold spring, and I wound up in a really cold place.
Anyway, Xichen-ge lent me his robes so that's why I'm dressed like this." She calmly explained.
"You found a cave?" Wuxian questioned.
"Yep. I think time is warped inside of there, because to me it felt like I was gone for half an hour. Weird, huh."
"Why do I feel like your making this up?" Jiang Cheng asked, crossing his arms.
"When have I ever lied to you guys." She replied.
'Please don't answer that.'
"But I'll be sure to let you guys know in advance if I get dragged underwater into a desolate cave."
"Alright, I believe you." Wuxian replied.
'Of course, you believe me. It happened to you as well.'
She internally scoffed.
"But if you don't mind I'm going to train somewhere. I need to shake off the cold feeling." She said, before walking off.
"He, you aren't even going to tell us what was in there?" Jiang Cheng yelled.
"Just ice, ice and some more ice!" She said before disappearing around a corner.
On her way back to her room she passed by Lan Qiren and a few other disciples.
Politely bowing, she went on her way leaving the disciples stunned and Lan Qiren with a blood filled mouth.
"Master Lan! Are you okay?!" A disciple asked.
"I'm fine." He replied shaking them off.
'Why is she wearing Lan Sect robes?' He thought, shuddering at the idea of one of the Yunmeng Siblings marrying into the Lan Sect.
'Well, at least she's the most diligent out of the four. And she's a perfect student.' He internally sighed.
'And she's well mannered, and polite. She shows respect for her elders as well... I suppose her marrying into the Lan Sect wouldn't be so bad.' He thought, stroking his beard.
'Anyone but that damned Wei Wuxian.'
Finding an empty courtyard, she unsheathed her sword and practised until her hands bled.
'Faster. Stronger. I need to prove to everyone that I can do this. Destiny can take it's plan for the future and shove it up its ass! I won't fail them!' She thought.
Everyday she trained like her life depended on it, people were starting to compare her to Lan Wangji with the amount of training she was doing.
Even Wangji himself had to admire her hard work and dedication to bettering her skills.
She was also doing her very best in taking care of her newly acquired sect. When ever she wasn't in class or training, she was in YueYang making sure her sect was running smoothly.
Renovation was going great and they had just finished the library, so Lan Qiren sent four dozen rare books over as a gift, which Taifeng greatly appreciated.
In the blink of an eye four months had passed of her finishing classes in Cloud Resseses, training in Gusu and running things in YueYang.
She was a little bit tired but she meditated whenever she got the chance.
Although in her opinion, she would rather have a can of Red Bull.
Things were going steady and she keeping her gaurd up for any Wen activity. Even if the war doesent start for a couple of months now that didn't mean nothing would happen.
After all, her being here has majorly screwed with the timeline. The moment she met Wei Ying she had already started to change things.
For the better, she didn't know, but she was changing things regardless.
She just hoped she wouldn't let Fang Zhishu and the others down.
