Chapter 3: Give Love a Try

Lisa: YOU KNOW THE DRILL!

Nate P.O.V.

I ran with my guitar to class and sat in the front row. "Would anyone like to sing for the class?" Brown asked and most people raised their hand. He scanned the room and pointed to me. "How about you Nathan?" Brown asked.

"I can take his place if he doesn't feel comfortable," Tess piped up from next to me.

"No, the finger has picked him," Brown said smiling. I sat in the stool and grabbed my guitar. I started playing and the girls looked at me with wide eyes.

"You, you're like driving on a Sunday. You, you're like taking off on Monday. You, you're like a dream, dream come true." The girls giggled and played with their hair. "I was just a face you'd never notice. Now, I'm just trying to be honest with myself, with you, with the world." I smiled at Shane.

"You might think that I'm a fool for falling over you. So tell me what can I do to prove to you that it is not so hard to do? Give love a try, one more time, cause you know that I'm on your side. Give love a try one more time. Yeah, yeah. Ooh." The girls in the back started swaying.

"How did it play out like a movie. Now every time you speak it moves me and I can't get your smile off my mind and your eyes, when I saw 'em for the first time knew that I was gonna love you for a long time. With a love so real, so right. Well, you might think that I'm a fool for falling over you. So tell me what I can do to prove to you that it is not so hard to do? Give love a try, one more time, cause you know that I'm on your side. Give love a try, one more time, one more time." I ran to back to my seat as there were claps heard from the entire room.

I ran back to the cabin right after effectively skipping lunch. I heard knocking and then the door squeak open.

"You can't hide in here forever, remember that Shane and I live in here too?" Jason asked rubbing my back making me accidentally kick him out of self-defense. "I noticed that you're really jumpy, what's up with that?" Jason asked me.

Shane P.O.V.

I listened from outside the window.

"When I was eight some of the kids in the orphanage weren't really nice. There was a boy who was older than me who thought that if he kept me hidden and bruised when the people showed up wanting to adopt that I wouldn't get taken making him a better option. One day a couple came in and heard me playing the piano and then switching to guitar and singing and they wanted to adopt me. As a punishment for getting adopted before him, Gr... I mean the boy beat me up and broke my arm. I couldn't play for a while. He was sent to juvie after I told my mom." Nate said before breathing out.

I felt bad that I wasn't there for him. It should have been me and not him that got hurt.

"You know one of the kids posted a video of you singing and all of the girls want to know who you wrote the song for," Jason said laughing.

"I heard you and Shane talking yesterday and felt bad for what I was doing to Shane. The truth is I'm too young to know how I feel but I know that there is something. My mom stayed up until midnight helping me write the song and Brown picked me because my mom called him and told him to pick on me if I didn't raise my hand because that would mean that I was ready." I said looking down.

"You're pretty brave, Shane loves you. I don't even know how he figured it out so fast," Jason said smiling at the window that I was looking through.

"Who's out there?" Nate asked and the door squeaked. Nate looked down in the bushes where I was squatting.

"Hey," I said waving.

"Hi," he said blushing.

"Can I do something?" I asked putting a hand on his right cheek. His eyes closed on reflex as he nodded turning bright red. I pecked his lips and pulled away. His eyes opened once I took my hand away and he smiled a genuine smile. "You have a nice smile," I said using my thumb and pointer finger to bring his face up to meet my eyes.

"Thanks, so what is this supposed to mean?" Nate asked picking lint off of his gray sweater trying to look down but finding it impossible with my hand there.

"I think this means that we are together, like as a couple," I said. He tried to nod but laughed when he couldn't.

"You really like hearing me speak don't you?" Nate asked.

"Why wouldn't I want to hear my wonderful boyfriend speak what's on his mind instead of being so cryptic and mysterious all of the time?" I asked and he rolled his eyes.

"I'm your boyfriend?" he asked with wide eyes.

"You're all mine," I said laughing at him before giving him another peck.
