Chapter One: Welcome To Camp
Summer break was a holy time to those unfortunate enough to have school the rest of the year. Summer camp could be either heaven or hell for its inhabitants. This particular camp was an absolute dream to the teens who occupied it.
The sun was high in the sky that early June day. Two teens stood outside the large camp, specifically right outside the large wooden sign that read 'Camp Fandom'.
"Are you as excited as I am?" The girl's round, blue-green eyes shined with excitement. She bounced on her toes, glancing over to the boy next to her. Her long, blonde pigtails bounced with her. The boy next to her gave a soft smile.
He was tall, skinny, and had almost no muscle. The boy stuck his hands in the pockets of his jeans, wrinkling his blue Star Wars shirt. His composure was much calmer than his companion but his caramel eyes seemed shine with as much excitement as the girl displayed. He smiled at the girl and brushed his short, messy, brown hair with his fingertips.
"I'm not sure if I'm as excited, but I'm pretty hyped for this." He replied.
"Where do you think you'll be, Landon? Harry Potter like me?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
Landon rolled his eyes. "Holly, as much as I like Harry Potter, you know I'll be over in the sci-fi section."
Holly frowned. "I know... I just don't want to be separated from you. I don't know anyone else here!"
"You'll be fine, Holly berry. Ready to face this thing?" Landon asked.
"Of course I am! I'm ready for anything!" Holly stated. Landon was about to reply, but before he could Holly took off running into the camp.
Holly ran up to a table where a few counselors had gathered and were helping the campers get to the right place. There were five counselors at the table, all wearing the same kelly green uniform and all looking very busy with a flock of teens around them.
The one farthest from the right was a large woman with dark skin and short hair as well as a friendly look to her. Her name tag read Pav.
The counselor next to her looked to be the youngest at the table. She looked like a teenager but was more likely to be in her early twenties like the others. She had platinum blonde hair with a dyed streak of pink. She too had a friendly look about her. She name tag read Kylie.
The middle counselor was male with pale skin, black hair, and a bored expression on his face. His tag read Norman. The bored and snarky look on his face led the two teens to assume he was not a pleasant person.
Next to him was a kind looking man with brown hair and tan skin. He had bright green eyes and was rather tall. His name tag read Oliver.
The farthest right was an Asian woman with dark hair and nice brown eyes. She wore a pleasant smile on her face with prominent dimples. Her name tag read Song.
After waiting what seemed like forever for the crowd around the table to clear up Holly and Landon approached Oliver.
"Howdy!" The counselor said. "Name?"
"Holly Parker," The blonde answered.
"Ah yes," Oliver checked off a name on the list. "Do you know what fandom you belong to or would you like to take our quiz?"
"Put me in Harry Potter, please!" Chirped Holly. Oliver scribbled that down next to her name.
"Alright, here's a map of the camp. Harry Potter will be in the fantasy section. Counselor Rosie will be there, waiting to assist you." Oliver handed her a map.
Holly waited by as Landon answered the same questions.
"Name?"
"Landon Walker."
"Know what fandom you belong to?" Oliver questioned.
Landon looked over at Holly before answering. "Star Wars."
Oliver smiled. "Alrighty, here's your map. You'll be in the science fiction section. You and your girl there better be careful though. Sci-fi and fantasy have a rivalry going on. Have for the past two years. Counselor James will be there to assist you."
Landon's cheeks flushed as he took the map from Oliver. "Thanks." He mumbled.
Landon strolled over to his friend. Holly beamed at him. He looked down at his feet.
"You a Star Wars fan? I would have never guessed." Holly couldn't help but be sarcastic.
"Whatever, Potterhead." Landon smiled, looking up.
They started walking towards their sections, not yet having to part.
"So fantasy and science fiction have a grudge going on here? That should make everything a lot more fun." Holly bounced with every step.
"Yeah fun. Since when has arguing and segregation ever been fun, Holly?" Landon raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms.
"Since always!" The girl chirped.
"Right... Forgot who I was talking to. You're not going to just go out and seek a fandom just to pick a fight are you?"
Holly grinned. "We'll just have to see."
They soon arrived at where the two sections met and had to part. Fantasy stood on the left and science fiction on the right.
Holly turned towards Landon, to tell him to meet up with her later but something else caught her eye. Up in a higher part of the woods something flashed orange, as sunlight hit it. The colors flashed quickly to red then blue. It was such a brilliant light... It couldn't just be a broken bottle or something.
"What are you looking at?" Landon asked, first glancing at Holly then in the direction of the woods. The light was gone.
"I thought I saw something- Never mind. Meet me up at the assembly later?" Holly wondered.
"Uh sure." Landon glanced between the high area of woods and Holly, with concern.
Holly waved goodbye to Landon as she skipped towards her own side of camp. Holly buried her nose in the map, analyzing it carefully. Now all she had to do was avoid any areas she would get in an argument with someone.
"Watch it!" A teenage girl about her age screeched. She had long raven hair, pale skin, and brown eyes as well as a sour look on her face. She was wearing jeans along with a Breaking Dawn t-shirt. She glared at Holly. Holly glared back.
"You weren't looking where you were going either." Holly snapped.
The sour look on the other girl's face softened. "I guess that's fair. Sorry about that."
Holly was taken aback. She had not expected her to apologize. "Uh yeah. I'm sorry too."
"I'm Stephanie. What fandom do you belong to?" The girl asked.
"Oh Harry Potter," Holly answered, looking past Stephanie to where her part of camp should be.
Stephanie frowned. "Oh..." Everyone knew that Twilight and Harry Potter didn't get along. "Well I guess I'll see you around."
"Uh yeah... See you." Holly stole one last glance at the girl before continuing on. Since when were Twilight fans and Harry Potter fans civil to each other?
She hadn't even been there one day and she was already labeling people by their fandoms. Landon was right; she did pick fights too easily.
Oh well. She hadn't made any enemies just yet. She'd just have to be careful.
