Chapter 6
Harry POV
Percy brandished his sword and used the watch Tyson gave him. It sprang into a glowing silver shield, pulsing with the power of the sea.
"Come on, Percy, we're all friends here. "she said, taking off her hood and revealing her face.
She had long black hair with a streak of galaxy colored light, and her skin seemed to glow. Her aura was off the charts, magic and energy blasting off of her in waves and sparks. Andromeda raised her trident at them, while I pointed my wand.
"Who are you?" I asked, choosing my words carefully.
"Messengers. A war is brewing, and you are powerless against it. Submit now, and there's still hope for you," she warned, in a light, airy tone.
"Leave here, we can fight whatever army you have sent against us," Andromeda said, stalling for more reinforcements as campers and students rushed to come.
"An army of your own?" she questioned.
"What do you mean?" Percy asked.
"Oh, you'll see! Before we leave, here are some gifts for our fabulous young heroes. Bring out θηρίο!" she shouted to the other two, as a cage sprung out of nowhere.
"Have fun!" she said, kicking the cage door open and disappearing with the others.
It growled, and I looked at it. It's eyes seemed to be infinite galaxies, and thin, triangular spikes poked out of it's back. It's body was as dark as the night sky, and it's fur ruffled. It's claws were sharp and huge. It's teeth were jagged, and it looked like it was about to rip open any of us.
It charged as we sprawled out of the way, diving for the ground.
"What is that?" Percy yelled, clutching his sword and shield.
"I have no idea," Andromeda responded.
The beast was charging through and was smashing over cabins. Every step it took seemed to suck out the life around it.
"Attack plan Delta!" Andromeda shouted, throwing her trident at the beast.
It bounced off of it's fur, leaving a small scrape.
"We're dead," Percy muttered, as we ran toward it, trying to help.
It came across a few campers who couldn't have been older than twelve. They were trapped in the collapsed cabin, and it was right next to them, growling, inky black spittle flying into their faces.
"Leave them alone!" a voice rang out.
Annabeth held up her dagger in a defense pose.
"Run," she said to the campers, as they happily scurried out, frightened for her.
It snapped it's jaws and smashed into her, as she flew back several feet. She curled up to protect herself, as the beast's claws raked against her body, mauling her.
"Enough! You're here to fight me, then go right ahead!" Percy said, charging it and smashing into it, knocking it over.
Annabeth's cuts were starting to turn black, and she didn't look like she would survive.
"I am θηρίο, the beast, and I do not take kindly to being hurt, Perseus." it's voice echoed in our heads.
They started to circle around Annabeth, each circling around each other, challenging the other to make a move.
Suddenly, θηρίο used it's claws to scratch Percy's shield, leaving huge claw marks in it.
"Leave this camp, you've done enough damage," Percy said, still circling, trying to find a weakness.
He lunged and made a stab with his blade, but it only left a small scratch.
"Foolish half-blood. You cannot harm me with those 'godly' metals. I will leave, but you will find you asking for my help. Only I can heal the wounds she has, and she will die, knowing I had the cure. Unless you hand her over to me. I do not give away my work for free. Give me 100 soldiers, demigods and wizards." θηρίο echoed through our minds.
"Never!" Percy said, again trying to stab the beast, and again failing.
"You will succumb to my wrath, young demigod. When you are ready to give her to me, leave her where this attack happened. You shall not win this battle, half-blood." it spoke in our minds, and vanished, darkness slowly taking over its body.
Percy threw down his weapons, rushing toward Annabeth.
"Annabeth," he breathed out, tears starting to form in his eyes.
"That...was... a...dumb....move...Percy," she coughed out, blood spattering around.
"No, please don't leave me, Annabeth!" Percy choked out, tears starting to stream down his face.
"Step aside! Give the woman space!" a medic said.
They started to force nectar and ambrosia into her mouth, and put unicorn shavings on her wounds, desperately trying to heal her.
One medic was crouching beside her, desperately pointing her wand and muttering,"Brackium Emendo, Episkey, Ferula, Reparo!" like an incantation.
They carried her into a stretcher, and wheeled her into Med Bay. (Infirmary for my fellow Americans.) IV bags were leaking various fluids into her, and she was lying down on the bed, almost lifeless.
One of the healers looked toward Percy.
"She's in a coma. This venom, it's like something we've never seen before. It's killing her, yet keeping her alive so it will torture her for a much longer time. We did a brain scan, she's having vivid, horrible dreams. We think she has 24 hours before she dies, or is plunged so deep into the coma no one can take her out of it. Most of us have tried to pray to Apollo, and even he can not save this." she said.
"Some even prayed to Asclepius, and this is something that the god who can bring people back from the dead can't solve. Hades, we even prayed to Dionysus to make sure she doesn't go insane! The best any of them could do was grant us their blessings, or else she would already be dead." a different doctor said solemnly.
"We're pumping so much nectar into her system that if she had been conscious would've killed her. The only reason she can take it is because she is on the brink of death. One wrong move and she'll burn out." another chimed in.
We sat down into a few chairs beside her. Percy put his head in his hands.
"I can't believe this is happening. It's my fault, I should've refused to come here, I shouldn't have been playing hero, I should've-" he started, tears freefalling off of his face.
"Should've what? Not saved those people? Let her have died? Percy, think how many other people would've died because you weren't here. Now, what are we going to do about what θηρίο said?" Andromeda said to Percy.
Percy wiped the tears off of his face and stood up.
"Before we do that, I need to see if this will work. I need to try and heal her myself." Percy stated, picking up his sword.
He swung his sword and put a huge cut into the palm of Andromeda's hand.
"What the Hades, Percy!" Andromeda shouted at him.
He ignored her, and concentrated hard. The cut seemed to heal by itself, quickly closing itself.
"It worked!" he said incredulously to himself.
"Mind explaining yourself, Percy?" Andromeda said, obviously ticked off.
"Annabeth and I had been having a conversation about what I could theoretically do. This came up, the ability to heal by extremely speeding up the circulation of blood in a person's body," he said, excited.
"You're going to try this on Annabeth?" I said.
"Yup," he said, focusing on her body.
Cuts and gashes started to heal, and it looked like everything was starting to go right.
Until it went wrong.
Her vitals started to bottom out, and the gashes and cuts appeared, wider than before, as the heart monitor flat lined, then went to extraordinary speeds.
"No more time to think! We need to get her out of here, and hope θηρίο wasn't playing a practical joke on us!" Percy said, scooping her up, as the IVs were yanked out of her.
"What are you doing!" a medic asked, shoving the door open.
"I tried to speed up the blood to increase the healing processes speed. It was supposed to work!" Percy explained.
"You idiot! You speed up the blood, you speed up the poison! She has ten minutes at best, probably 5!" the medic scolded.
We raced toward the battle site, desperate to save her life. We placed her body on the ground. For a minute, nothing happened, and our faces became horrified masks. Suddenly, darkness appeared, and θηρίο showed in its wake.
"I almost asked myself the point of coming for a dead body. Then I saw that she actually survived the death you put her through. You just put her in 24 hours of extreme torture, worse than that puny Tartarus, in a matter of seconds." θηρίο's voice echoed in our minds.
"Heal her already, or I will do everything in my power to make sure you feel as much pain as she is," Percy growled, brandishing Riptide.
"Foolish demigod. That should have killed her, yet she lives. I cannot heal her here. I must take her to a different place." θηρίο said in our minds.
"That wasn't part of the deal!" Percy shouted, getting ready to try and run him through.
"Shall I let her die, half blood? Do not argue with me, unless I should leave her here and let your weak medics try to save her, as she dies in seconds. When I see my army, you will see this girl" he responded.
"Heal her!" Percy yelled at him, actually taking a slash at him. θηρίο dodged, laughing at his attempt.
"Your enemies are rising. You killed his son and wife, and he wants revenge. He is enlisting an army of those who hate you, demigod. Goodbye, young hero." θηρίο said in our minds, vanishing in darkness.
Percy stared at the spot where he disappeared, and collapsed on his knees.
"What have I done." he muttered.
He smashed the ground, letting out a yell.
"What have I done to deserve this, Fates! What have I done! Why can't I just be done doing this! I'm just a boy playing hero!" He shouted to the sky, tears falling down.
"The Fates are cruel, Percy." Andromeda said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
He smacked her hand off, and stomped off.
"Blackjack!" he shouted, as a pure dark winged horse flew down into the camp.
"Take me anywhere but here," he said to him, as they flew off, leaving us in the midst of a war.
