~CHAPTER 27~
A/N: HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT?!
I'M SICK AGAIN...
IN HALF TERM...
UGH WHYYYYY-
I'm very prone to sore throats and colds, which I have right now. On top of all that, ( this will gross you out but please don't comment on it) I have some sort of lump/ boil (it makes me wanna throw up too) growing in my ear, and it's sort of stuck to my eardrum, so I can't lie down on my left side, eat properly, speak properly, turn my head etc.
It's not getting any better and I'm on the verge of going insane ;-;
Anway, enjoy!
~
Marinette's POV (yes again, next time you'll have a bit of Adrien's POV lol)
I slammed another book closed, throwing it on top of the rapidly increasing pile.
"Ugh!" I groaned frustratedly. "Will we ever find any information on this missing book?"
We'd been searching for the past 5 hours, scouring every book for even a glimpse of the missing book's whereabouts. Sadly, we were at a total loss.
Bridgette zoomed down the ladder, a truckload of books in hand. As the ladder spun away to another aisle, she hefted the dusty collections and dropped them with a thump on the table. "We just have to keep looking sis; I'm sure we'll find something soon enough."
"Wow, way to jinx us, Bridge, we're never gonna find anything now." Felix fell dramatically into a nearby chair.
I grinned. " 'Never' is just a very long time. But I'm sure you guys have something somewhere that can speed up the process?"
"Duh!" My sister jumped up, the books on the table long forgotten. "I have just the thing!"
I looked at Felix, confusion plastered across my face.
He just smirked in response. "You'll see."
After what felt like hours, Bridgette reappeared, carrying a large bottle, filled with a murky purple liquid that pulsated grossly.
Before I could ask what it was, she uncorked the bottle and took a small sip, grimacing at the taste.
Felix readied his pen and notepad- wait where'd he get them from? Why'd he get them?
It all made sense when Bridgette opened her mouth, her normal sweet look replaced with a burning light in her eyes.
"The Cure, written by an unknown author, has only one copy which has been lost to man for centuries. However, a neighbouring kingdom to the author's had been able to retrieve it shortly after it was lost, choosing not to disclose its recovery. As of now, it is still in the custody of the kingdom, which now goes by the Broken Kingdom. A gang of-" She was cut off when the bright light faded from her eyes and she collapsed. Felix and I, unfortunately, were not fast enough to catch her.
Oh well. We'll just have to hope she doesn't remember that.
She slowly opened her eyes. "You didn't catch me."
Oops.
She shook her head. "Ah, it's okay." She walked towards Felix, who has been scribbling away furiously in the notepad.
"You got it all?" Bridgette asked.
"Yep." He nodded, not taking his eyes off his work.
She smiled fondly at the back of his head.
I hated to break up my sister's little moment, but I had a pressing question on my mind.
"So this potion- or whatever it is- helps you get information?"
"Not exactly. It focuses on the main issue in your brain and redirects all its potency towards it. In other words," Felix laughed at my expression, "it's Google in a bottle."
I shook off my amazement and bent over Felix's handwriting. "So... the Broken Kingdom?"
Felix and Bridgette grinned at each other.
"What?" I asked tiredly. "What is so blatantly obvious that I can't see?"
"The Broken Kingdom is hosting a ball tomorrow." She held up an envelope.
"And we've been invited."
~
"Wait, you want me to design our dresses and Felix's suit?" I asked, shocked.
"Mhm!" Bridgette bounced up and down eagerly. "Just make sure they look like our superhero personas and make sure they're manoeuvrable, in case of an attack." She led me to a room. Inside was my literal dream come true.
Every type of fabric in every type of colour streamed down the walls. Sequins and more adornments fit neatly in boxes hung up and placed on shelves. There were various sewing machines, all the equipment needed and a large table for me to work with.
"Have fun! Bridgette closed the door softly behind me.
~
One day and a few dozen cups of coffee later, I was done.
~
"I'm not so sure about this, Marinette..." Bridgette and Felix's muffled voices came from their respective dressing rooms.
"Aw, c'mon guys, I already styled your hair and did Bridge's makeup, trust me, the outfits will go well with it! Step out at the same time?"
"Okay," were the responses I received.
With a swish of the curtains, they were revealed.
Bridgette was wearing an off-shoulder deep purple dress, which faded into a midnight blue at the ends. A small ribbon adorned her waist. I'd laid a transparent layer of chiffon over the bottom half of the dress, which flared out and ended at the floor- it was a ballgown, after all! The dress was embellished with a few small diamonds (which matched her earrings) and it tied together the whole outfit. Her make-up was very light, with dark blue eyeshadow, pink lipstick and blush. Her hair was braided in a french plait, which laid across her right shoulder. She held an intricately decorated mask in her hand- it was a masquerade ball, and we needed to keep our identities secret.
Felix was wearing a dark green suit, with matching trousers, complete with a black-tie. It was made out of velvet but also had some chain mail- if he needed to... punch someone in the face? He had emerald cuffs, too. Bridgette and I had tried to tame his hair but like two blonde-haired boys who I was trying to get out of my head, it was to no avail. He too had a mask in hand, only his was a rich green, not purple.
They both stared at each other, deep blushes forming on their faces.
"Y-you look amazing." They stuttered.
I laughed at the pair. "Excuse me, lovebirds, I have to change too." And I slipped away without waiting to see their reactions.
I pulled on the dress, admiring the fact that my hard work made all this. I put on some light makeup and twisted my midnight blue hair into a messy bun, secured with a small dagger (though it was disguised to look like a pen).
I turned to look at myself in the full-length mirror and gasped. I looked and felt like I whole new girl.
I wore a striking red dress, which like Bridgette's, nipped in at the waist and flared out to the floor. Here and there I had sown on black sequins so it resembled my hero persona. It was quite similar to Bridgette's all in all, really- it had the bow (only red) a chiffon layering over the top (also red) the main difference being it was only off-shoulder on one shoulder. Some black eyeshadow, red lipstick and foundation made me slightly uncomfortable, as if I was hiding behind a mask- oh! Speaking of masks...
I held mine up to my face. With it on, I felt like Ladybug, soaring through Paris and defeating akumas.
I shook my head. We had a task to do.
Felix had told me the plan: the book was locked away in a vault deep in the castle, guarded by many traps. We'd have to slip away from the party, traverse said obstacles, grab the book, and get the hell out of there before anyone noticed.
I laughed. Easier said than done.
I slipped on my red trainers (yes, trainers, they were far comfier than heels) and stepped out.
Bridgette gaped at me. "Marinette...you look SO BEAUTIFUL!" She rushed up to hug me- oh sorry, I mean to squeeze the life out of me.
"Not bad Marinette, not bad at all," Felix smirked.
I glowed. "So are we leaving or not?"
We all transformed and flew away.
Hopefully, we won't have any trouble getting the book...
???'s POV
I watched them head towards the Broken Kingdom.
"Ugh!" The girl groaned, stamping her foot petulantly. "When are we going to go after them, Gabriel Agreste?"
"Right now, as a matter of fact, Lila Rossi," I replied.
A/N: So! Lila's working with Hawkmoth! Plot twist or what?
Heheheh I'm proud of that!
Alright, would've written more, but I spent all day on this chapter, and now I have only 14 minutes left of screen time. Enough to quickly finish some homework!
