Orienteering

"Guys, Leta just checked her phone and found out that the forest that we're going orienteering in shut an hour ago, so, we'll just have to go tomorrow," Queenie said, poking her head into Newt and Tina's cabin.

"Oh...okay..." Tina said.

"And Teen? You and Newt better hurry up, all we can hear is you guys bickering about beds and you've been unpacking for like... half an hour!" She grinned.

Tina rolled her eyes and continued to unpack her things.

In the end, Newt had given in and let Tina have the better bed because he 'couldn't argue with the birthday girl,' so he had reluctantly groaned and lowered himself onto the thin, cold mattress and curled up underneath the fraying, moldy duvet. Despite sleeping really close to the ground, he had slept relatively well, unlike Tina, as Newt had kept joking that he was going to jump onto her bed halfway through the night, and she had spent most of the night expecting to wake up to Newt jumping on her. But of course, that never happened.

Tina and Newt's eyes flew open to the aggravating sound of pots and pans. They knew it was Queenie right away.

"Guys! WAKE UP!" she hollered, banging a pot and pan from the campground kitchen together, making an awful clashing sound rivet through their ears.

Tina sighed and buried her face in her pillow. Did they really have to wake up this early?!

"Its... too... early," Newt mumbled into his bed sheet beside her. She turned around to see a mop of red hair laying in a tangled mess of pillows and duvets. She chuckled to herself and stood up, stifling a yawn.

Making her way over to the bathroom, she closed the door and pulled on a pair of athletic leggings and a grey knot shirt. She had spent a while splashing her puffy eyed face with cold water and face scrub to try and wake herself up before she heard footsteps coming towards the doorway.

It was Newt, wearing a pair of frayed jeans and a black over sized sweater that he looked very nice in. A slight red color tinted his cheeks as he mumbled a 'good morning' to Tina and checked his reflection in the mirror.

After Tina had put her hair up into a low ponytail, they both walked together to the kitchens.

"Sooo, how was sleeping in that bed?" Tina elbowed him playfully.

"Um... It was actually okay..." He mused.

Tina chuckled and opened the door to the campground kitchen. It was a small, desolate room with a few tables spread across the white floor. On the left side of the room was a number of cupboards, all squeaking and half-open. Next to the cupboards there was a fridge, and an old, battered oven.

Tina walked over to the first cupboard door, and grabbed out a couple of bowls for her and Newt. She then poured them both a bowl of cereal and was just about to sit down when the others came into the kitchen. Queenie looked very happy with herself, as she was the one who had managed to get them up so early.

"Gee, Queenie. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole campground heard you!" Theseus said.

"I know," Queenie grinned.

Before long they had all finished their breakfast and were heading down the road to the forest. It was only about a 5 minute walk before they had arrived and found their instructor waiting for them.

"Hi guys, there are your maps of the forest. There's also a few pencils there. If you look at the map, on the back is a list corresponding to the markers around the forest," he said, gesturing to the trees around him.

"You will get the most points for the markers that are furthest away and hardest to get. There is a time limit, though. You need to be back here in one hour exactly and for every minute you are late, I will take 10 points off you. Got any questions?"

Everyone shook their head and Jacob reached out for the maps and handed one to everyone.

"I'll take the pencil," Newt sad, grabbing it.

"Okay guys, your time starts...Now!" said the instructor, and all six of them set out at a run.

"Where should we go first?" Tina asked them all.

"Ohh! Look! Over there!" said Leta, pointing at a blue and white marker.

"Oh, great job, love," Theseus congratulated as he wrote down '20 points' on their sheet of paper.

They continued to stroll around the forest for a while, and tried to figure out where they were in the substantial forest, but were having no luck. Eventually it was Theseus who made the call to just ditch the map and wander around aimlessly. They had found another checkpoint when Leta asked Newt for the pencil so she could mark off the points. He started to feel around in his pockets for the short, white pencil his face morphed into a look of worry and guilt.

"I uh... may have dropped the pencil along the way... by accident... uhhhh," he stammered, his face going bright red.

"Newt!" Theseus said, exasperated.

"I'm sorry... I-" He started.

"Well, you are very lucky that I grabbed an extra pencil because I had a feeling you'd lose it!" He laughed smugly as he handed Leta another pencil.

Leta rolled her eyes sarcastically as she marked off another 20 points off their sheet before carrying on walking. Soon afterward they reached another path with a crossroad at the end. In the distance, between the two roads was what looked like a man in a pink hoodie, leading a small dog. He looked to be in complete disarray as to which path to take, and kept going a bit down one path before turning around to take the other road.

All six of them stopped in their tracks, watching the man.

"Guys... that dude over there looks really creepy..." Queenie shuddered.

"Yeah, I don't like the look of him and that dog," replied Jacob.

"Ohh! Can we go and see the dog?!" Newt blurted out.

Giggles filled the forest after Newt's comment.

"Newt, pal. He's at the other side of the forest!" Jacob chortled.

"Guys, we're wasting time, he's just walking his dog for Merlin's sake!" Theseus ordered and they all kept walking together.

"Still, he looks dodgy, I'm going to carry this in case he is creepy," Queenie announced as she grabbed a large stick off the pine-needled path.

Tina rolled her eyes at her little sister as they trudged along the eerily quiet forest, Queenie carting her stick with her, using it as a walking stick. They had been walking for at least 45 minutes when they came across a small clearing in the trees.

"Guys! Look! It's a marker!" Theseus cheered, pointing to a red and white sign labelled '36'.

"Awesome! This one's worth... 50 points!" Tina grinned as she marked the points off the sheet.

"So in total," Jacob peered over her shoulder, "170 points!"

"Yay!" They all said in unison.

"Uhh... guys?!" said Queenie, looking at the map. "You realize we're here," she pointed at the top left corner of their map, where number 36 was, "and we have to be here..." she continued as she pointed at the bottom right corner of the map, "In... 5 minutes."

"What the-" Tina groaned.

"Come on guys, we need to run if we don't want to be late! We're going to lose all of our points at this rate!" Theseus urged, setting off at a run.

"Ugh..." Jacob panted even though they had only been running for about 15 second.

"Come on honey!" Queenie begged, grabbing his hand and dragging him.

"Do I look like the type of guy that runs!" he panted.

Queenie laughed and kept pulling him by the hand.

Eventually they had ran back to the gate where they had met the instructor and Queenie had thrust the paper with their points to the instructor.

"We -got -170 -points," he panted, clutching his hip because of a stitch.

"Well done guys, but i'm afraid i'm going to have to take 100 points off you, as you were 10 minutes late," the instructor said grimly.

"Oh... okay.," Newt replied.

"Well, we best be off now," Theseus said.

"Thank you!" Tina said.

"Well that was fun!" Theseus mused.

Leta thought for a moment.

"Yeah, really fun indeed!"

And little did they know that this was only the start of lots of fun (and slightly ridiculous) memories to be made.

Yaaayyyy another chapter by fangirling_puff! I really like this one, it's funny.

The next chapter will be by me, myself and I, so look out for that :3

(Hint I guess: It'll include marshmallow-roasting, scary story telling, strange things going on outside at midnight, and Newt mucking around at 3am. Enjoy.)
