Chapter 3

Ian Welsh

I'm Ian Andersen, I'm 19 years old and born on the night of September 5; I stand 5"12 and studying Fine Arts; this is the story of how I entered the university...

The sun's ray illuminated inside my room, I dragged myself downstairs because of the noise in the living room; when I asked my mother what was happening, she showed me an envelope. "Open it, Ian!" She cheerfully exclaimed, as my other siblings were filming the moment. Dad bit his lip anxiously, I didn't know what was happening. Did we win the lottery?

I sighed, opening the envelope; ripping the paper into shreds as I got the letter inside.

I read the first paragraph, all over again; I jumped in joy as I showed my parents that I was accepted to enroll. Everyone was happy as we decided to celebrate the success.

--

"What was that?" Jess asked, as she sat up; twirling a thread of her hair. "Dylan, my room mate; he's already home. You need to leave now." I replied, I grabbed an oversize shirt and dressed Jess. "Shit... Alright; give me a minute." Jess stood up and went to the bathroom, I wore my clothes while waiting for her to finish.

Minutes later she went out of the bathroom like nothing happened, "thanks for that wonderful feeling; babe. See you tomorrow." Jess kissed my lips goodbye, as she went to the door; leaving my dorm room.

"Yeah, see you." I sighed, feeling tired; I was waiting for Dylan to come inside before locking the door for the rest of the night. "Dylan? You can come in now."

No one replied, I stand up; taking a look outside. He fell asleep while waiting, I rolled my eyes; as I tried to conceal my snickers.

I crouched down to his size, shaking him awake. Dylan opened his eyes, blinking it several times before looking at me. "Are you done now?" He asks, as I helped him stand up. I nodded, "I'm sorry." I told him, as we both walk inside the room; I closed the door and walked to my bed.

"You can leave, if you want." I muttered, rubbing my neck. "There are houses here that rent rooms for students."

"What?" Dylan asked, he was confused. "I'm not leaving, it's okay."

"Thank god, I thought you would leave me."

"Leave you? What, are you afraid of being lonely?" Dylan snickers, as he pulls out his phone from his pocket. "It's just the first day, Ian; bad things do happen."

"What? Why should I be scared of being lonely? I have people around me all the time!" I protested, I felt my cheeks warm up and become pink. The young boy stared at me, he knew I was embarrassed with I said before. I bit my lip, I hope this day would end already. "I-I'm going to bed, and don't tell anyone what happened! I'll end your life, if you did."

"Alright, good night; Ian."

--

The sun's rays fell onto the room, creating a shadow from our only window. I hid my face underneath my pillow, because I knew it was too early to get up from my beautiful slumber. Then I heard the bathroom door open, it was Dylan; he was already dressed up to school.

"It's too early, classes don't start at this hour." I told him, Dylan rolled his eyes; "It's 7AM, my first class starts at 9AM." He replied, as he adjusts his beige sweater. "You should get ready too."

Shit, it was already 7AM. I dragged myself out of bed, going to the shower. "Hey Ian,"

"Yeah?"

"I'm going now, bye."  I heard the door closed as he left the room, was he still mad? Who cares anyways, its his problem. Not mine.

--

I walked downstairs in the dorm building's kitchen, there were several students eating; some were cooking and the others were just hogging and they were talking to each other. It was kind of crowded, so I decided to skip breakfast and go eat at McDonald's or at a cafe.

I was about to leave until I heard someone call my name.

"Ian!" I turned around to see Sabrina, she walked up to me; as she grabbed my shoulder. "Hey." I smiled at her, making the blonde instantly blush. "The girls at the sorority are going to have a party later at 8PM, and everyone is invited. Would you like to join us?"

"Yeah, I will." I replied, she squealed and ran off to her friends. I walked out of the building to eat food at a restaurant.

--

The food here wasn't so tasty, I might as well go buy food later at the grocery when I get home from school. I checked the time again using my iPhone, it was 8:19AM. I'll be late soon! I ran through a lot of people trying to beat time in order to get to class before it starts, I apologized to the people I bumped through.

Until I accidentally ran up to someone, we both fell on the grass. I hovered on top of the person, and you'll never guess who it was...

Dylan Welsh, my room mate. "Shit, I'm sorry!" I said, as I stood up; helping him to get up. He was dazed or lost in his thoughts, but you could see through his face that he's embarrassed. Dylan still holding my hand, he clutched it tightly; like he was scared. "Hey, Dylan. Could you let go? I'm almost late for class." I said, the young boy blushed as he lets go; running off in a hurry. What the hell was that?

"Yo, who's that kid; Ian?" Zach asked, my circle of friends walked to me. They were curious about Dylan and the incident that had occur earlier. "My room mate, he's a first year student." I explained, "I'll talk to you guys later; I have a class to attend to." I ran off to the building, I checked my phone again; it's 8:25AM! Fuck, I'm going to be late.

I opened the doors of the building, running upstairs to get to my classroom. Finally! I burst the doors open, revealing the classroom; many students are talking to each other and some were reading their textbooks, I sat next to Jess.

"What took you so long, babe? Today is the first day." She said, smirking. I rolled my eyes as I  put my arm around her. "I overslept. Yesterday was very tiring, you know~?" I replied, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"How's your room mate?" Jess suddenly asks out of the blue, why does she want to know? "I saw him asleep when I went out."

"Dylan is okay, and he's not troublesome unlike Adrian." I told her, "Adrian was very carefree and cheerful, I like his attitude a lot."

"Yeah, too bad he went for those assholes at the Fraternity."

"..." I stayed silent, Adrian was my former room mate before he left to become popular. He's a great musician, Adrian was extraordinary; even Jess loved him. Suddenly, everything changed. His personality differ, and he avoided me a lot; didn't want to question him. But I wished I did, because that made a very sharp turn in our friendship. He left without a word, the other side of our room was empty. Adrian left.

"I'm sorry, I knew you had a brotherly relationship." Jess confronted, biting her lip. "Why don't you visit him sometimes?"

"I don't know," I replied; anxiously. There's no way that guy would let me in, he would just simply turn me down. And I would look like a freak desperately asking why he left, without telling me. "I think I should move on, I have a lot of friends."

"And a girlfriend too~."

--

I left the building, it was very tiring listening to the professor and taking down notes; my right hand was already painful after filling up three pages of my notebook. It was 4PM, and there wasn't any projects to do; I walked home to the dorm building. Zach walked to me and greeted.
"Hey Ian, are you going home already?"

"Yeah, I just want to sleep already; today is really stressful." I replied, I didn't want to go anywhere alone. "Unless, there's any events happening."

"There is, the cheerleaders are having a party later; are you coming?"
"Jess said she was thinking about it, if she doesn't... I'll have to think about it then."
"For the mean time, do you wanna head over to Starbucks?"
"Okay hippie."

Me and Zach went to the parking lot to get my car, I grabbed my keys from my pockets and pressed the unlock button; I climbed inside along with Zach, as I turned on the engine. "How long have you and Jessica dating?"

"A year already, we're about to celebrate our anniversary next month."
"How'd you met her? There are a million things I didn't know about you, Ian."

I tried recalling the time when I met Jess, she was the normal brunette that used to be shy and insecure of herself because she came from a fucked up family. With her mom doing drugs and her father abusing her elder sisters, Jess managed to become an innocent flower...

"Well, she was a 1st year student like me last year; she was lost, until I helped her. We hanged out as friends, our status as friends didn't last very long; a month later we started dating." I explained, we exited the school and went to the city.

"What about you and Tanya?" I teased, like a grade one student. Zach didn't reply, he fiddled with his fingers; because he was anxious of something. "Tanya is a cool girl, she's an artist; I like her oil paintings a lot."

"Y-Yeah, about that..." Zach bit his lip nervously, "She and Louis have this sort of bond."
"Eesh, sorry about that Zachary."
"No worries."

--

After traveling all the way from the university to the nearest Starbucks cafe, Zach immediately placed his order. "What'd would you like, Ian?" He asked, I sat on my seat near the large window; sighing. "Chocolate." I replied, slumping my back on the cushiony seat. Zach smiled as he went off to the counter, I opened my iPhone to play with games.

After minutes of waiting for my drink, Zach brought us over drinks; vanilla for him and chocolate for me. I took out the straw from its wrapper and plucked it inside the plastic drink, as I took a sip. "Let's go now." Zach said. I nodded my head and left the cafe with him, as we both walked to the car.

--

I dropped off Zach to his dorm, before heading back to the parking lot. It was 6:50PM, I still have time to chill inside my room. I drove my car to the school's parking lot, giving my card to the girl who was in charge of the place. I found myself a space to park my car, after that; I walked back home.

--

I unlocked the door, opening it; to be met with Dylan on his precious Macbook. "Oh hey, Ian." He greeted, smiling. "Yo, what are you doing?" I asked, giving the door a slight kick to close. "Oh, I was posting my pictures online on my Instagram page." He gestured me to come look at his photos, I sat next to him on his bed; amazed with the shots he had take.

"Wow, you're a gifted photographist." I compliented, patting his back. "All I can do is take a selfie or a picture of my food." The young boy bursted out laughing at my joke.

Ring ring

I checked my iPhone, it was Jess and she was calling me; I excused myself and went outside as I answered the call. "Hey babe." I said, "what's the matter?" Jess told me she couldn't go to the party since she wasn't feeling like it. I told her it was okay and I can go with my friends, I hung up and went back inside the room.

"Hey Dylan," I said, Dylan's attention turned to me; looking at me with those pair of blue eyes.

Do you want to go to the party with me?
