Average

Isla Penrose had a pretty average life.....and like her life she felt she was pretty average. One day, she courageously runs into a burning building...only to find herself rewarded with death. Let's just say fate made a mistake.

"Look it's not that I don't love a good Santiago Cabrera, it's just that everyone needs a little Bradley James," Isla states in an even tone. She is gifted with a disgruntled snort from her 'friend'.

"You see Isla, this is why people don't like to talk to you......*blah*...*blah*....you should b......*blah*.." Isla's..... walking companion, Angelina, responds with a list of improvements Isla will never remember.

"Do you smell that?" Isla questions, completely ignoring Angelina's speech.

"Maybe if you wore makeup or- Isla! I was talking... Pay attention!" Angelina whines.

Isla chooses to ignore Angelina's cry for attention, and she runs in the direction of the smell. Why am I smelling burning wood? Isla contemplates whilst on her journey.

~Isla's P.O.V~

Upon arriving at the scene, I am greeted with people screaming and a burning building. I go to leave, since I knew the fire brigade would arrive soon, only to stop when I hear someone screaming from inside the blazing building.

Without even thinking, I turn and run straight into the burning structure. I cover my mouth and nose with my shirt, making sure to keep as much smoke out as I can, whilst I try to navigate through the fire.

"Hello! Do you need help? If so, where are you?" I reply in a ,surprisingly, calm voice. As I turn to leave, I hear a scared response.

"Help me!"

"I'm on my way!" I shout in response, before running towards the direction I heard the shout. I find myself tracking up the stairs, two steps at a time.....praying I won't be too late. Sweat clings to my body, in hopes of cooling me down.

When I finally reach the source of distress, I find myself looking at a kid.....I'd say they looked about 6 years old. I find myself walking towards them with a new found feeling of purpose.Fire erupts from the left and right of me....but I do not flinch. I quickly grab the frightened child before making my towards a window.

I find a big one, that just so happens to face the front yard of the house. I put the kid down before breaking the glass. I notice the firemen have arrived, so I wave them over.

By some weird miracle they notice me and  bring a ladder over to the window in a quick and efficient manner. I first help the kid get on the ladder before I go to climb it myself...but fate had other plans.

I take a step forward only to have a beam fall on me................that's all I can remember.

My eyes flutter open to find myself in an unfamiliar white room....where am I?

"Not heaven or hell, kind of like a place in between the two," I hear in response to my unanswered question.

I sit up from the 'bed', and look around. My eyes connect with the source of the noise to find myself staring at a small speck of light.

"I am NOT a speck of light! I am a guardian angel," the 'light' says indignantly.

I fight the urge to roll my eyes, before replying with, "Cool.....so may I ask why I'm here?"

"You died......" the angel answers, albeit reluctantly.

"Right....I'm guessing I died right after the beam hit me?" I half-heartedly sum up.

"Yup! But, you weren't supposed to die yet, Imayhaveaccidentllycutyourlife'string'," 'they' state.

"Could you....I don't know....repeat that...except slower" I ask as calmly as possible.

I hear a long exhale, before I am greeted with a reply. "I may have......accidentally...cut your life's....string?"

I'm silent for a moment.....I can't decide if I should scream, cry, or laugh.

"Anywho since I messed up, fate has decided to allow you another chance at life......any requests?" The entity asks.

"My only request for my 'new life' is that I be apart of my favorite show...Merlin" I notice the light seems to flicker before I black out.

"Psst...wake up......WAKE UP!"

I lurch awake, and before I can stop myself, I exclaim "God damn! Were you dropped on your head as a child?"

I hear laughter and I look up and connect my eyes with bright blue ones. I allow myself to look over the person to find myself staring at Colin Morgan....dressed as Merlin.

Merlin

"Your such a weirdo sis," the stranger-Merlin says after his laughing fest.

I decide to play along, because after all I am an 'average' character. "Yeah yeah.....why did you have to wake me up? Oh dear brother oh mine..."

"Did you forget we're going to Camelot....."

I shake my head before motioning for him to leave so I can get dressed....after all "When in Rome.."

Hair Style

After I got dressed, I leave 'my' room and enter what looks to be the kitchen. There I find my mother worrying over Merlin and his attire.

Hunith
(Merlin + Isla's Mom)

Merlin looks up and smiles when he sees me. Hunith- my 'mom'-seems to notice Merlin's change of focus and she turns to look at me. Her eyes seem to gloss over with tears.

"Oh you look so beautiful baby.." She finally says. I can't stop myself from pulling her into a hug... my own tears falling....I had always been a fan of Hunith's from the show.

"We best be going.." Merlin says, snapping us out of our reveree.

"I'm so bored..." I grumble for about the thousandth time.

Merlin just laughs and rolls his eyes before saying "Well you needn't worry, for we are here."

"Oh my merlin...." I whisper in my awestruck state.

———————————

Merlin and I find ourselves in the town square looking at Uther Pendragon...otherwise known as the King of Camelot.

I zone out his speech knowing that it is a bunch of reasons for why it is okay to murder someone because of their gift. I only tune back in when he motions for the executioner to behead the innocent man.

I start to get scared, and Merlin notices my chagrin so he grabs me and pulls me into his chest. I breath in his comforting scent while I try to block out the scream of the man.

Just when Merlin and I think all the commotion is over, Thomas Collin's ,the innocent beheaded man's mother makes an appearance.

"There is only one evil in this land, and it is not magic! It is you! With your hatred and your ignorance! You killed my son! But I promise you, before these celebrations are over, you will share my tears. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a son for a son," She exclaims.

Before the guards are able to get their bearings and grab her, she grabs her necklace and whispers a spell before disappearing.

I share a look with Merlin before we begin our search for Gaius's chambers. I notice two guards seem to be waiting by the castle, and I decide to ask them for their help.

"Excuse me, do you know where I could find Gauis?" I ask in a kind and calm voice.

My presence seems to knock the two off guard for they stair at me with an awestruck expression before pointing towards the direction of Gauis's chambers.

"Over their mi'lady," One of them says before they both bow and I smile in thanks causing them to smile back, but wider.

Merlin has a scowl on his face the entire time. I'm just upset that the guards looked at me as though I was an angel.

"What is wrong with those guards?!" I mutter to myself, hoping that speck of light heard.
