It is the year 1948, and former Hogwarts graduate and twenty-one-year-old Tom Riddle runs his secret mission to reshape the Wizarding World as he sees fit, with the help of his loyal Knights of Walpurgis.

But one fateful day, an article in Wizarding paper The Daily Prophet shocks all European witches and wizards alike;

" Gellert Grindelwald, notorious dark wizard and destroyer of peace, breaks out of his cell located in The American Magical Congress.

1935 - Three years after the Supreme Mugwump election held in Bhutan, Albus Dumbledore; Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, vowed to help the Ministries of the Wizarding World succeed in catching Grindelwald once and for all.

1938 - After another three years of searching, the dark wizard was found by Dumbledore and locked away in the most guarded cell MACUSA had to offer, with the approval of our very own Minister; Leonard Spencer-Moon, as well as many others. "

Or at least, that was what the Ministries of the Wizarding World wanted their citizens to believe...

When past members of Grindelwald's disbanded Alliance, along with their families, are found brutally murdered in obscure locations, Tom Riddle forms an unlikely alliance of his own with the founder of an infamous rebel group; The Hellions, and his vengeful foe: Alena Sarbani.

But when he alerts her of the news, he is informed of a much more atrocious fact...

For Gellert Grindelwald was held in his own abandoned Austrian prison, and murdered all those years ago by a broken-hearted Albus Dumbledore.

It has been deemed that there is a murderer on the loose, and whilst the Wizarding World blames the unknowingly late Gellert Grindelwald for the murders of his own fanatics, Alena Sarbani and Tom Riddle are determined to uncover the more rational truth, as well as the Ministry's lies.

In spite of any unforeseen consequences, mayhaps.

Hello and thank you for choosing to read Camaraderie of Hellions!!

1) First things first, I would like to clarify that the main female character in this story is of Pashtun descent. She hails from a family that is from the city of Peshawar, Pakistan. As a Desi, I really wanted to incorporate my culture into my fic, and though Alena Sarbani cannot exactly be referred to as a Desi unlike other Pakistani characters in this fic, I wanted to showcase the importance of Pakistanis as a whole, no matter the ethnic group. This fanfic is for all my fellow Pakistani Tom Riddle enthusiasts (as well as my other fellow brown Tom Riddle enthusiasts!! <3)

This fic begins in the year 1948, and Pakistan gained independence in 1947. Please be informed that this story includes references to colonization and the Partition of India. This event was a crucial and dark part of my family's history, as well as many other's. Atrocities such as colonization induced trauma that has been passed down through generations. In this story's case, historical events play a very important part in understanding the FMC's depth and trauma, and the same goes for the other Pakistani characters in Camaraderie of Hellions. Partition sparks an internal conflict within these characters and has them begin to contemplate their identities and how to move forward.

Also, it is known that in Islam, magic is forbidden. I kindly ask that you do not leave comments affirming that magic is to be deemed haram. I do know that, but as the lovely tmrscovenx puts it: for the purpose of this fic and the magical fictional world upon which it is set in, please consider Muslims wielding magic in the context of a fantasy setting where magic is normal! Tmrscovenx interprets that magic could be seen as a gift from God as well, which I heartily agree with!!

2) I am willing to say this a hundred times just so that some people will hopefully get it in their head: Please don't leave comments shaming Alena Sarbani and my other female characters (and just my characters in general! but most importantly the women) for their actions. I am a firm supporter of morally grey fictional women, and I am always willing to put in the effort when it comes to understanding their complexity and motives. There honestly aren't any good characters in this story, some are better than others, but the flaws are there! They will be showcased because it is simply human nature to have flaws. There will lots of character development, for better or worse, or both.

I also ask that you don't attack Alena and my other female characters when their weaknesses, flaws, vulnerabilities and delicate sides are shown. It has never been, in both the original version and the rewritten version, my intention to have Alena immediately and only be a "typical baddie mc". She has her extremely vengeful moments and her unhinged female rage, but she also has immense trauma and anxiety that effect her throughout the entire course of the story. The degree of her anxiety and trauma may decrease with time, but they never fully go away.

So, I will not condone criticism when it comes to female character's strong and unhinged sides and flawed and vulnerable sides being depicted. You can absolutely question their actions in an inquisitive way, analyzing characters and their motives is something I LOVE doing, but do not condemn them for doing what they needed to do to survive or for doing what they thought was the right course of action.

3) THIS FIC IS NOT ENTIRELY CANON COMPLIANT!! This is an alternate universe with several original additions to the Wizarding World as well as certain aspects of canon that I have added on to because we were robbed of information when it came to so many intriguing elements of this world and its characters. Camaraderie of Hellions has many aspects in it that differ from canon, but us fanfic writers are doing our best with what we have been given. This fic has heavy psychological themes, as I like to solely focus on the 'why' when it comes to my characters. Everyone has a motive, everyone has their goals. I suggest you keep that in mind as you read my fic....

Also unfortunately, I do not own every aspect of jkr's world and characters. However, if you do support her, please unfollow me, don't read my fic! Seeing as COH also diverges from canon, there ARE original characters and changes that I put the thought into, so do not critique my worldbuilding, characterizations, or added plot lines and try to remind me of what is canon, and what is not. The beauty of writing fanfiction is fleshing out different characters, lore, (etc) that the original authors did not.

4) Tom and Alena's relationship is flawed, just as they themselves are. Initially, there is to be hesitation and reluctance between the two of them, mutual manipulation, plotting and scheming, and lots of distrust. I adore the slowburn trope in fiction, as I know many others do, so if you have come for a slowburn romance, HUZZAH! However, I would like to make it clear that Tom and Alena's romance is more of a subplot, and certainly not a romance that kicks off right away, hence my mention of slowburn multiple times. There is a mystery that must be solved, there are internal conflicts that must be addressed, there is a fight that must be fought. Both characters are so much more than who they are when they are together, but that does not mean that when they're apart, it doesn't leave an overwhelming impact. It is a balance that I hope readers will understand and enjoy, for I love writing/thinking about Tom and Alena's relationship dynamic and fleshing it out. <3 Prepare for reluctant allies to reluctant yearning with lots of scheming on the side and many other things in between...I am so ready for this rewrite.

5) My writing schedule shouldn't actually be called a schedule at all because I don't have a set schedule lmao, I try my very best to publish chapters whenever I can, though please note that there will most likely be typos and errors and I kindly ask that you try not to mind them...I also don't have a set sleep schedule. There will also probably be some timeline inaccuracies, though I try to make the timeline as accurate and understandable as I can. I do apologize!!

6) Here we go; PLEASE NOTE that rude and hateful comments are not to be tolerated, and if you wish to spread harm and hate, I suggest you leave now and think your actions through. I will simply not be dealing with unwarranted hate and criticism that is targeted at my fic and my readers/mutuals. There are many aspects of this fic that serve as a coping mechanism for me, and in general, this work truly means the world to me, and I really love planning it and writing it. So, if my fic is not to your liking, don't read it and move on! I promise you I'd 100% prefer that to bombardments of baseless hate. ALSO please don't compare or mention other fanfics and their characters in the comments, it can be discouraging if it is a comparison instead of a mere recommendation.

7) NO LITERARY THEFT!!! I genuinely ask that you do not plagiarize. This includes blatantly copying storylines and character roles and arcs. Of course, nothing is original. I am not the first Tom Riddle fanfic author to incorporate the enemies to lovers trope, I am not the first to write a rebel FMC, I am not the first to write a murder mystery (and the list goes on), but everyone (should) add their own little flourishes to their stories, everyone has their own way of going about things regardless, and I try my best to accomplish originality as best I can in this fic. So, please respect that!

8) Lastly, don't translate, republish or copy-paste (so once again, plagiarize) my work here or onto another platform without my consent (my consent will only be granted for potential translations). Also, paying to bind my fanfic and selling physical copies to others is not to be tolerated! 'Tis illegal! But if you do want to print COH at home and bind it on your own and keep it in your possession, you absolutely may if that is your desire!!

INSPIRATIONS

Many parts of this fic are inspired by: HBO's Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, and The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The political aspects as well as the rebellion against the Ministries lead by Alena Sarbani and her Hellions are very much inspired by moments in The Hunger Games. Plus, Alena is definitely Katniss Everdeen coded. And Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon are two shows that really help me with sometimes writing medieval-esque dialogue and descriptions, which I love. Not to mention these shows are known for their shocking betrayals and deaths. I would be lying if I said I had not been influenced...

There are also many MANY other inspirations for this fic, but seeing as I never shut up about any of my hyperfixations, you will definitely hear of them/be reminded of them in some other way! If you happen to share any of my interests in movies/shows/books/characters, you're the greatest.
