Calliope's Musings
"Callie!" That was the voice of her cousin and bestfriend, Catherine, that broke her out of reverie as she emerged from the restroom of the Brewed and Chilled, the coffee shop where they were in.
Both of them agreed for a relaxation day after spending their week with their respective jobs. Callie, being a Marketing Sales Agent, and Catherine as a Team Leader in a BPO company.
"What's wrong? You look a little..." Callie's voice trailed off as she observed her whose hair strands were not in their usual beautiful position. "..off. Anong nangyare?"
Catherine heaved a deep breath and pulled out the chair across her and sat. She rested her chin on top of her palm and looked into her eyes.
"I saw your bastard boyfriend..." Callie raised an intrigue eyebrow as she scrutinized her cousin's next sentence. "...with a very pregnant Lissie Hollace."
That was the moment that her gut feels and instincts tell her that her intuitions about him cheating on her has been confirmed. And the time when she began to be quiet and reserved and talk only when necessary.

On the other side of the coffee shop was Wave.
He was there because somebody told him about his fiance meeting her lover.
It was impossible because he knew how devout she was to him.
She was practically living with him so he cannot see any reason why she will cheat on him.
But he knew better. He wouldn't make abrupt decisions which he will regret in the end.
He was sitting at the far corner of the restaurant and saw his fiance, Jennifer Peters.
And there she was. Smiling and laughing with a guy much younger than him.
He just observed. Nothing suspicious. They just talked and ate.
He was about to be relieved until the guy stood up, pulled the chair for her and then, they kissed.
They kissed so passionately that they were almost making out oblivious to their surroundings.
His fists clenched and was tempted to take her away until he was distracted by a woman who went out of the coffee shop with her friend behind her. He calmed himself and began to approach his so-called fiance but they left quickly.
He was about to go out too until he saw a pink notebook lying on top of a table. He picked it up hoping to find the address to return it to the owner but found the words instead,
Dear Diary,
What happened today broke my heart. I just want him to love me truly.
Hindi ko matanggap kung bakit hindi na lang siya makipaghiwalay sa akin kung lolokohin niya rin naman ako?
At that moment, he doesn't intend to return it.
Wave wanted to know how to move forward too.
But, how?

Calliope began her day by doing a fifteen-minute yoga to calm her senses. She has to wake up earlier than usual because of the pain that she has went through.
After her yoga, she rested for a few minutes and had her breakfast before bathing. Once dressed in her black culottes and white fitted blouse and a blazer, she went out. Like any other day, she was busy with her paperworks and meetings with advertisers on behalf of their clients.
As she rummaged through her bag and pulled out her planner to jot down her schedule for the succeeding months, her brows furrowed as she felt something strange. It's as if something was missing in it.
She checked on her things again. Cellphone, check. Wallet, check. Planner, check. ID cards, check. Car and house keys, check. Medicines, check. Umbrella, check. Makeup kit, check.
Nothing is missing. But why does she feels so odd?
Day passed and she stopped by at B&C to buy her favorite Frappuccino before heading home. It has been her routine ever since she lived in her condo.
As soon as she arrived home, she immediately flopped on her bed at kinapa ang ilalim ng unan niya para hanapin ang journal niya. She sat on her bed and looked inside her drawer. She searched in her living room and to places she might have put it on. She groaned in frustration when she couldn't find it.
Until she realized that she brought it on the day her heart was broken into pieces.

"Hon! Thank goodness, you're here!" Jennifer exclaimed when she entered his condo unit. "Hindi mo sinasagot ang tawag ko. I was—"
"— stop coming in here. Don't call and come here anymore. I want a break-up!" Wave said in anger which startled his then-fiance. "I saw you kissing another man! Wag mo sabihin sa aking hinalikan ka niya when I saw you kissed him back!"
"I-I'm sorry." Jennifer sniffed and began crying. "Akala ko maiiwasan kong maramdaman ito, pero hindi na kita mahal, Wave. Thank you for everything." She said which broke his heart then left his unit.
Hindi akalain ni Wave na higit na masakit na marinig ito mula sa kanya. Pero, it's better than being left in the shadows.
He wept miserably for the love lost for six years. He had his share of heartaches but this one left him in too much agony.
After a few days, he remembered the journal he got from the coffee shop. He knew he should have not read it but found himself understanding her innermost feelings and thoughts. Somehow, he could relate to her. And this time, he feels like he knew her a lot from the way she writes down her daily experiences. He even laughed at her clumsy days which she had noted down.
He feels guilty and seeing as he was halfway through with her almost full journal, he stopped reading it. He made a note to her and keep it between the pages. He promised himself that he will find her and return it to her.
He would drop by at the B&C hoping to see her but their schedules just won't meet.
Weeks past by and Callie has become a regular in B&C as she waited for the guy who got her journal. She saw it when she requested for a CCTV footage. She knew she should let it pass but all her thoughts and secrets were stored there. She could always buy herself a new one but her attachment to her pink notebook is just too much. She must get it soon. But how?
The guy never came back and it looks like she will never have it too.

More than two months have passed by and Callie forgot about her journal. She became busy with sponsoring events and everything related to her job. Same goes with Wave who was too engrossed with his printing press business called Waves and Inks Publishing House. He has been monitoring the editors and book cover editors in the printing of new books from recently launched authors.
Until one fine day, Callie has to meet a client at the coffee shop. She waited as she tried on a new flavor of frappucino suited to her current mood.
"You must be Calliope." Her eyes widened when she saw who it was. His smile grew as he handed her pink journal to her. "I am Wave Conrad Miller. Your client."
"H-how? Wha—?" She couldn't find the right words to say as she stared at the journal in front of her and at Wave. "Teka! Binasa mo ba eto?" She exclaimed and she could feel her face heating up in embarrassment when he didn't say anything with a look of amusement and guilt on his face.
"Sorry, I'm late!", Anjanette Mauricio, the author, said cutting off the awkward atmosphere between them. Callie immediately hid her journal inside her bag giving a glare at Wave. "Shall we start?"
"Yeah, sure." Callie cleared her throat and they began talking about the Meet and Greet event happening soon. Anjanette had to leave early as she needs to fetch her daughter so the two of them were left alone.
She took a peek in her notebook and saw a blue paper with the words she somehow expected would happen.
"Sorry nabasa ko ang iba. Kinailangan kong hanapin ang contacts mo eh. Btw, I like what you have written in here. I can read anything you have written until the last page if you permit me to do it."
"By the way, I am happy that you are happy." He said with a knowing glance before standing to leave.
"Wait." Callie said and he stopped from walking towards the exit. "Thanks for returning my journal."
"Pay me back. And have dinner with me.", Wave said which surprised her. "I want to get to know you more. Somehow, I found myself relating to you. My heart was broken on that same day you left your journal. I want to be your friend."
Callie found herself nodding and smiling, "sure, I'd like that. Let's be friends."
End
