part one - xix.
I had called my pack to a meeting. They all gathered around while I sat on the bench and they all looked up at me curious to what I have to say. I straight my back as I took a deep breathe, "I know it's been hard adjusting to the woods. All of you had to leave your homes and come live here but I couldn't thank you enough for doing that to be in my pack. I know I have promise you guys so many times it'll all be over soon and I'm glad I can finally say I'm gonna make it happen."
"You found us a home to go to?" a woman name Chrysti asked as she held her two year old son on her lap. Many of them were confused beside my the guys and Killian who knew what was happening. "How's the possible? All the states are taken."
"Right. So only way to take one of those states is to challenge the Alpha." I said, watching the curiosity leave their face as they understood where this was leading to. "I was born and raised in Oregon, it'll always be my home. Alpha Lincoln was never suppose to be Alpha, he con his way into becoming Alpha. I know packs have their secrets and not all of them are perfect but Lincoln doesn't deserve it. He tried to kill his wife, he used my brother and I to make his reputation better while making my life hell, and isn't strong. He pushes issues aside when they need to be dwelt. I'm gonna get us a permanent home, we'll be moving to Oregon after Thursday. You'll be joining with Oregon pack and everything will go back to the way it's suppose to be."
"Their gonna look down on us." Rascal sighed heavily, a young wolf whose eighteen birthday is coming soon. "The school pack kids, they don't like us because they think we're invading their territory. Imagine going to Oregon and having a very small pack like our try to take over."
"We're not taking over, we're joining them." I said. "Yes, it's gonna be something hard to deal with in the beginning but it's gonna happen. I'll be Alpha and just like how Alpha Nathan dealt with it—whoever wants to leave they can. I won't make them stay." They didn't seem to object of the idea really but I knew they were a little worry that the Oregon pack won't accept them. Hopefully they will.

Brayden, Elijah, Gavin, Ian, Adan, and Killian were all talking. As my Beta Will was staying here with the pack until I finish the fight on Thursday. I didn't have a feeling I would lose tomorrow, I have allot of confidence because of my wild Alpha and I'm determine to get a home for my pack. I've been waiting almost nine months for this, nothing gonna stop me.
Ian sister Harley suddenly came over next to her brother side, "They said I can." she said.
Confused I watched Ian nodded and he put his arm around his sister, "Alpha Matilda, Harley has to tell you something."
I crossed my arms against my chest, "What is it Harley?"
She took a deep breathe, "I'm leaving the pack." she said, surprising me. She swallowed the hard lump in her throat, "I'm finding it hard to deal with everything with Ulric. It's nothing against the pack but if I'm gonna move on from him I think I should go live somewhere else. We have family in the Louisiana pack and they said I could come live with them. They already talk to their Alpha and said I could."
I stared at her a moment to process what's happening before I knew letting her go was something she wanted. I nodded my head, "Alright Harley, I understand. I wish you nothing but happiness in life and hope it's filled with allot of adventures." She gave me a small smiled and lowered down on her knee as a way of respect before getting up. Ian frowned as he watched her go to her tent and grab her stuff, throwing things in it, "Is it really her choice, Ian?" I asked him.
He looked back at me nodded, "Yeah. Harley does this—when something hard she runs from it. I told her soon it'll be different, we'll move to a different town from Ulric when we get to Oregon but she still feels like it'll be the same knowing their in the same back. It's just hard to let her go since she's my only sister and she wants to leave but I'm gonna make sure to visit her on Holidays and special occasions."
I nodded, "Why don't you go spend more time with her? We still got some time before we leave."
He nodded and went over to Harley tent. My phone went off in my back pocket and I took my phone out to see Nate had texted me asking us to come over.

When I stepped into Nate office Melinda rushed over towards me with begging eyes, "Mat please reconsider what your doing." she said, tears going down her face. She pushed her long dark hair behind her ears, "He's my father—"
"Melinda it's nothing against you." I told her as she paced back and forth. "Melinda stop this—I'm sorry but it's traditions. He's not just gonna hand over the pack to me by choice so I have to take it."
She looked at me with sad eyes, "You'll have to kill him." She got down on her knees in front of me and lowered her head, "Please I beg you not to kill him. I know he's doing bad things but he's still my father and I don't know if I could handle someone else I love dying."
I looked at Nate who walked over and helped his wife up. I closed my eyes so I would look in her sad blue eyes since I knew I would feel guilty. I almost did reconsider it for Melinda sake but I also had a whole pack hoping for me to get them a home. As an Alpha—I'm forced to do hard things like this and I have to think of my pack.
Nate lead Melinda out of her room and told me he'll be right back. I turned to face Killian and he took me in his arms. I felt so bad for Melinda since this was her father. It would have made things allot easier if she wasn't.
When he came back he sighed heavily and sat down at his desk, "I wanna wish you good luck." he said. "I'm sorry I can't be there for you like you were there for me."
I shook my head, "Don't worry about it. I'll prefer less eyes on me, makes me sort of nervous. Even you have a way bigger pack than mine to take care of. Why did you call me over?"
He leaned on his desk, "Neither of us could come up with a plan to stop Cortez—so I thought about doing it the messy way."
*
I walked into the research building that I had left a few weeks ago. I went over to the front desk where a lady was standing behind it, "I'm here to see Cortez—Faulkner, I don't know what she goes by here."
She arched her eyebrows, "Do you have appointment with her?"
"Yes, I do. My name is Matilda Vaughn." I told her even though I really don't have an appointment made with her. I'm gonna be really annoyed if she doesn't let me go in.
She looked confused for a moment before checking on her computer, "Oh, I do see something with your name here. Give me one quick moment." she said, grabbing the phone and dialed. "Hi Ms. Faulkner, I have Miss. Vaughn here to see you. Yes, she is. Okay, I will. Have a good day." She set the phone down after a short talk with Cortez and smiled up at me. "She'll come down to meet you in just a moment."
It didn't take thankfully because Cortez came down in less than a minute. She stepped out of an elevator with a big smile on her face when she walked over towards me, "Miss. Vaughn, a pleasure you came. Please follow me to my office. Would you like anything to drink or to eat, I can text my assistance to grab you something while she's out getting me my lunch."
"No that's alright." I said as continued to sit on the sofa in the lobby. "I won't be staying for long, I just came here to make a proposal for you."
"Oh?" she questioned before sitting down next to me. She crossed her long tan legs and tilt her head, "What proposal is this?"
"I have to go to Oregon in about an hour. I challenged the Alpha there to leadership of Oregon pack. Tradition is whoever wins will become Alpha of the pack. I have to kill him to become Alpha." I told her.
"A little extreme don't you think?" she asked chuckling.
I shrugged, "It's traditions, an old one that many wolves always respect. This Alpha isn't a good Alpha though and Oregon needs a strong one. He's like a selfish king. But that's not why I'm here. I'm asking you to come watch."
Her left eyebrow arched, "Watch?"
I nodded, "Yes. Have you never seen us in our wolf form before? I think if your gonna experiment on us, you should see the real us. We're not like werewolves in movies, we have completely control of ourselves. No one gonna hurt you, Doctor Cortez. I won't let that happen. I agree to do the research if you come."
"And if I don't?" she questioned.
"Then I don't do the research and you can't fully finish it." I reminded her. "I understand it's scary knowing what happened with your father and Talaus but it won't be like that with us. Talaus was a madman but we're not."
She grinned, "Blackmail, I see." she said as she was quiet for a moment thinking about it. She sighed heavily, "Fine. . .but let this be known my crew has every documents so I don't return—the world will still know."
I grinned, "Alright but you should have nothing to worry about."
Aeriela
I watched Ulric come out the school building. I was standing with Rascal and Luna away from the school building. Ulric looked right at us with a frown and my eyes soften hoping he comes this way to be with his own kind.
Today was the last try outs and I knew he wanted to badly do it. I wasn't gonna stop him, it was his choice to spend time with humans or be with his own kind. His humans friends called out his names and waved him to hurry up. Rascal breathed heavily out his nose since he didn't agree with Ulric spending down with humans either. Nor did Luna.
But Ulric went with his humans friends instead and I lowered my head.

I had wanted to go with Mat so badly to Oregon but she said I couldn't go because it was Alpha stuff and I have school tomorrow. It sucked watching her go without me but I had to be a big girl and not always lean on her. I looked down at my history homeroom—I understood this class amazingly. It was like telling stories but these things actually happen. I love Ancient Greece and Roman history. It was a crazy time but the artwork and buildings were beautiful. I could only imagine wolves back in this time. I wondered how they survive.
Ulric finally arrived late from the tryouts. I lifted my head as he stepped into the campsites and I frowned up at him. He looked at me from his tent for a moment and he threw his bag inside. I wasn't mad that he did it, I just kind of hopes he would choose his kind over humans. Ulric mouthed something to me but I didn't know what it was before he went inside his own tent.
Mat
It took awhile to get to Oregon, probably about thirteen hours but we finally made it to the boarder of Oregon. We stood on a cliff of the woods and everything about Oregon smelt so familiar. I haven't been here in over nine months and it felt—just like returning home.
I shifted into my human form and stood up. The boys stood up on their feet and I turned to them, "So close—feels crazy to believe it's gonna happen."
"You fought worse wolves than Lincoln." Brayden said.
I grinned, "I know, that's not what I'm nervous about. It's just—it's gonna be happening. It's something we talked about since the beginning and here's the day it's gonna happen."
"Make history as this generation female Alpha." Elijah said. "Very proud to say this to you."
"I think we're all proud." Killian said, smiling down at me and I smiled back at them.

When I went into Marchand—jeez it felt so strange to be back. Like always it was the same quiet town with family own shops and I recognized allot of people when I stepped in. Lincoln place wasn't the first stop though. When I stepped in front of Wings Hope, I told I'll meet them in an hour.
I walked over to the front door and went in. I saw kids playing in the lobby and everyone looked at me with surprise. I said hi to allot of them and they seem excited to see me. I even hugged a few of the staff member who complimented me for how well I looked. They noticed a changed in me, how something just made me seem so much more mature and grown up. It was true. I'm not that rebellious teenage girl anymore.
I walked down the hallways over towards the south wing of the building where my old room was. The door was wide open and I smelt Emily familiar vanilla berry perfume she always liked. I stepped in front of the door to find her laying on the bed reading a textbook school.
"Hi." I said. Her head quickly lifted up and her eyes widen as she looked at me. I grinned at her and she quickly jumped up from the bed. She ran over towards me with a big smile on her face and she attacked me with a hug. I brought my arms around her also, hugging her with a big smile on my face. Aeriela was just like my sister but so was Emily.
"Mat, you're back." she breathed out. "I thought I would never see you again."
I chuckled, "Don't be crazy, Emily."
After awhile the hug finally ended. She looked taller now and her usually short curly hair was flat iron. Her hair was longer now and her cheeks were slim. She looked just like the Emily I knew though, just a little older.
"Look at you and how gorgeous you are." I told her as I touched her hair. "Jeez, the boys must be going crazy for you."
She chuckled, "Me? Look at you Mat, look how much you're glowing. I have never seen you this tan before you ghost."
I grinned down at her, "I smelt allot of time camping this year."
Her smile disappeared as she frowned, "I thought—I thought you were dead until I demanded Blue to tell me what happened to you. She said you were still alive but living on your own that you could come back here. I thought I would never see you again."
"Well I'm back now." I said as I placed my hands on her shoulders. "And soon you'll have a home. You're gonna get your chance to leave here soon."
