The Next Successor
A woman's scream pierced through the air, drawing my attention down the street. A woman was knocked down to the ground.
A muscular man with four arms had snatched her bag and was running my way. Hm.
People jumped out of the way in fear of the possible harms he could do. But I remained in my spot in the middle of the sidewalk. The man neared, making me see him better.
He's very muscular. So much that his veins are popping up to his skin. He has a head of midnight blue hair and a large crooked nose that makes me believe it's been broken quite a few times.
"Out of my way!" His gruff voice demanded as he ran straight for me. I blinked, tilting my head a bit. A few people screamed in fear for me. He brought back one arm and threw a punch to knock me down and out of the way.
I ducked down, avoiding it, before springing back up and bringing my arm back and delivering a strong punch to him. I felt his nose break under my fist and he flung back ten feet due to my strength.
He hit the cement sidewalk, cracking and breaking it a bit at the force he hit. He rolled a bit before laying on his back, eyes rolled back into his head.
"Eh? That was quick." I muttered incoherently, walking over to him. Blood is gushing out of his nose profusely and he is definitely not getting up anytime soon.
I scooped up the blue leather bag and looked forward. The woman was running over, a bewildered look on her face. "Here you go miss." I grinned. She took it, nodding every so slightly. "Thank you. Wow. That was amazing." She spoke, still a bit dazed.
I rubbed the back of my head, my long blonde hair moving at the motion. "It's no problem at all." I assured her.
"Ayame!" My eye twitched at the all too familiar voice. I slowly turned to see a tall, scrawny man behind me, basically a bag of bones with angular facial features and long limbs.
He has blonde hair just like mine and piercing blue eyes that are narrowed on me. He wore clothes that are far too big for him and he has a scowl on his face.
I laughed nervously, eye twitching as a light drizzle of sweat dropped from my forehead. "Oh, hi Uncle Toshinori." He kept his scowl. Oh boy. "Ayame, they didn't have the banana flavor so I got you cherry-." My sister had walked over, a bag from the convenient store draped over her arm.
She had stopped upon sensing the mood and looked from me, the guy passed out on the sidewalk, to Uncle Toshinori, then back at me.
She sighed loudly, already knowing what had happened without having to ask.
"Ayame, Toa, come on." Uncle Toshinori turned and began walking away, leaving us to follow. "I literally left you by yourself for five minutes." Toa whispered. I merely laughed.
My sister and I are twins, but we look different. I have long, wavy, blonde hair like our fathers and Uncle Toshinori whereas she has a deep, straight, black hair like our mothers. And where as she has their blue eyes, I inherited moms blood red ones. Although they can turn blue when I use my Quirk to its fullest extent.
We don't really look much alike aside from our bone structures. But we're fraternal twins, not identical.
Once the three of us were on an isolated road, Uncle Toshinori turned to us, his eyes narrowed on me. "What do you think you were doing? You aren't supposed to go after crooks or Villains." He began to scold.
I frowned a bit at that. "Eh?! I didn't do anything though. I was just standing there and he attacked me. So I defended myself. That's still allowed, right?" I asked.
My uncle reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose. "You and I both know that you made sure it was self defense." Well he's not wrong.
I groaned aloud. "Oh c'mon! He was just a common purse snatcher. I wasn't in any real danger, it only took one hit!"
"That's not the point and you know it. You can't keep putting yourself in harms way like that. You're supposed to let the police and Pro's handle things like this. What if he was stronger than you? You could have gotten seriously hurt or worse." There was a bit of pain in his voice and I deflated a bit. There it is.
He's always worried for me. For us. He's afraid we'll die, just like dad.
Losing dad took a big toll on him. And he can't even properly grieve over the loss of his older brother because dad gave him the most powerful thing.
One For All.
He's our legal guardian and he feels bad because he always had to do Hero work as the Symbol of Peace.
I think besides letting down the people, his biggest fear is losing us. "I'm sorry Uncle Toshinori. I won't do it again." At least not to his face.
Seeing that I was sincerely apologizing he sighed, but smiled nonetheless. "Alright, good. I need to go meet with Principal Nezu. I trust you won't do anything rash." I smiled brightly and nodded.
Instead of nodding, he turned to Toa. "Make sure she doesn't do anything rash." What?! Toa noticed my expression and chuckled softly. "You got it Uncle Toshinori." He nodded and started heading off. I pouted childishly at that. "He thinks I need my little sister to babysit me. I'm hurt, really." I told Toa, who laughed.
"Well he was right to. You have no intention of not stopping bad guys whenever you see them." She pointed out.
Well she's not wrong. We bursted out laughing together before heading home. "I can't wait till school ends. Then we're going to go to U.A." Toa murmured.
It's true. Our principle had sent recommendations for us, per Uncle Toshinori's insistence. It's already a sure in despite still having nearly a full year of Junior High left. But I'm not satisfied with it honestly.
"Ah, Katsuki and Izuku are going to be applying as well." I stated. Toa nodded and turned to me curiously. "You know he isn't going to be happy when he figures out you don't need to take the standard entrance exams."
I sighed, staring off thoughtfully. "Well, neither am I. If I did, I'm sure I'd finally be able to beat him!" I clenched my fist tightly, looking forward with determination.
Toa giggled at that. "You two have never been able to beat the other. I don't think the exams would be any different." I pouted at her words.
"Ah, c'mon. You're my sister. You're supposed to support me. Besides, I plan on becoming the Number One Hero one day. I will surpass him to do so." I stated confidently.
Toa watched me carefully. "You know he won't give you it." She said softly; referring to One For All.
I pursed my lips slightly. "Yeah, I know." Instead of moping I gave her a cheeky grin.
"I'm going to become Number One without it." I stated. To this she smiled before mischief flashed through her eyes. "Eh? Think you can beat me?" She asked teasingly. I just grinned more. "May the best Yagi win."

"Shut up you fucking nerd!" I opened the door to our class and immediately spotted Katsuki, cornering Izuku to the back wall. I narrowed my red eyes on him. "Shut up Katsuki!" I shouted.
His head snapped in my direction, his own eyes glaring me down, like always. "What'd you say?!" He stepped away from Izuku, who deflated to the ground.
Toa immediately went to his aid, playing the role of a big sister. I stomped over to Katsuki who did the same.
We met, head to head, staring each other down. His ash blonde hair is ruffled and spiked up a bit, his narrow pale red eyes glaring into my ruby red ones.
The students that were in the classroom stared at us wearily. We have a track record of fighting and trashing everything in the surrounding area.
Toa stood with Izuku and she walked over to us. "Now, now. Sensei is going to be pissed if he comes in and the desks are destroyed. Again." She tried. Katsuki turned his glare to her, making her jump in fear.
Although she knows he won't hurt her, she has a healthy fear of him. Not nearly as bad as Izuku, but she doesn't do well when anyone yells at her.
She also can't quite see him as well as me. She's not his biggest fan. She says he's a 'brute'.
"Hey!" I snapped, not liking that he scared her. He returned his glare to me.
After a bit and he still hasn't said anything a grin spread across my face and I laughed, throwing my arm over his shoulder. "C'mon, if you glare for so long you'll get bad wrinkles." I pointed to where the spots would be on my face.
I poked his face a bit. "Oh, looks like it's already starting." He glared as his temper flared and slapped my hand away. "Shut up!" He roared, turning.
This only made me laugh and fling my arms around his neck and leaning against his back, poking his face again. "Oh Katsuki, it's okay. Toa has a lot of face creams and she may even let you borrow some." I continued to tease him.
"Shuddup!" He roared, but it didn't hold nearly as much malice as it usually does.
I mean we fight all the time, but we're best friends.
Probably.
The bell rang, signalling class is about to begin and we all took our seats. Toa is seated behind Izuku, while I'm seated next to Katsuki. Our teacher soon came in and began to teach. I didn't really like school all that much.
Mostly because my only friends are Toa, Katsuki, and Izuku. Everyone else is just so fake. I had friends, but the minute they started talking about Izuku and Katsuki behind their backs I ended it.
I hate people who talk bad about people behind their backs. They all mock Izuku simply because he is Quirkless. And they pretend to be friends with Katsuki but talk smack about him the moment his back is turned.
I mean, you'd think someone like me who hate's bullying and two faced people wouldn't be friends with Katsuki since he picks on Izuku, but Katsuki is just different. You have to know him to realize he's not the bad guy he makes himself out to be.
He's honest, strong, hard working, earnest, and has good intentions. He just has a cruddy way of showing it.
I just don't really like the people here. I can't wait to graduate and go to U.A. Maybe there I'll make new friends. More importantly, maybe the three of them will too.
I want Toa and Izuku to leave their shells and open up to more people, I want people to see Katsuki isn't a bad guy, and I just want a fresh start.
I want to go and become the best Hero.
That's why I study and train every single day. I want to be the greatest Hero there ever was. Even more so than dad and Uncle Toshinori.
And I have a feeling that once we're there, all those will come true. Because U.A. is a place where dreams come true. That's where everyone who has ever attended became Heroes. Where they made their dreams come true. Where they met people who are precious to them. And I can't wait.
~
The sounds of my strikes against the wooden dummy and my heavy breathing filled the room. I struck each part in order by my training, continuing, not stopping. Earlier I was using the punching bag for my strength, the dummy I use for technique.
Our basement is large and holds plenty of equipment for training. I use it more often the the others though. Well, Uncle Toshinori . . . he can't really. Not after what happened.
Sweat coated me like a blanket, and my blonde hair is escaping my ponytail. I've been training for four hours now and could use a break, but I must finish this first. This is part of my regimen after all. Push past my limits.
"Ayame!" Toa burst through the room. Her eyes wide and she's slightly out of breath. "What's wrong?" I asked, grabbing my towel from the bench.
I placed it around my neck and used one end to wipe the sweat on my face. "It's-Baku-Uncle Toshin-Izuk-ahg!" She snatched my wrist and dragged me out of the room.
I am beyond confused, but allowed her to drag me out and into the living room where the news is on.
Suddenly, the camera switched over to an ash blonde boy and a green haired one.
My eyes went wide. "EH?!" I screamed loudly. Toa only nodded frantically, eyes still wide. She grabbed the remote and turned up the volume.
"The Sludge Villain took hostage a young boy and caused his Quirk to run rampage in the Shizuoka prefecture. Another young boy was taken in by the Hero, but All Might arrived on the scene and saved the day yet again." The news lady smiled broadly at the end.
I just stared, wide eye. What happened?! "When was this?!" I shrieked at my sister. She just shook her head and looked over at the clock. "I-I don't know. A few hours ago?" I let out another shriek and rushed to the door. However, before I could, it swung open revealing Uncle Toshinori.
I grabbed him by the shirt. "What happened?!" I shouted. He sighed, patting my head. "So you saw the news, huh?" He mumbled, walking past me.
I shook my head and followed him. "Those two kids, they're our classmates, no, our friends."
Because of his Hero work, Uncle Toshinori never really met any of our friends. He was too busy, not that I ever really blamed him. So the look of shock on his face didn't phase him.
"Young Midoriya?" Huh? Only Izuku? I nodded. "Yeah. And Katsuki. Are they okay?" Toa came to my side, also wanting to know as well.
Uncle Toshinori scratched the back of his head. He looked like he was debating something. Finally he sighed. "They're fine. Girls, let's sit on the couch and have a talk."
Huh? Toa and I looked at each other in confusion but followed him to the large beige couch. Toa and I sat on either side of him. It was quiet for a moment. A long, long moment.
It's unbearable. "So both those Young men are friends of yours, huh?" Toa and I nodded. "For about nine years." Toa told him.
He nodded, a bit of sadness in his eyes. Considering dad died two years prior. He still holds all that sorrow, like it was yesterday.
"Well, he is ambitious, Young Midoriya. Wants to be a Hero, although he's Quirkless. He reminded me just what it means to be one." He has this far away look in his eyes. Yet there's a fondness to it. What did Ikuzu do?
Uncle Toshinori glanced at Toa and then me. "I've decided to make him the next Successor."
Eh?
Izuku . . . will get One For All?
Uncle Toshinori's . . . Dad's Quirk? I see.
I felt the eyes of Toa and Uncle Toshinori on me. Both of them knew how much I admired the Quirk. How much I had hoped I'd become the successor. But it wasn't meant to be.
I smiled at them. "Izuku is probably the best person to be the next one." I closed my eyes, grinning wide.
When I reopened my eyes, I could see Uncle Toshinori's shoulders sag in relief. But Toa stared at me. Trying to see if I meant it. I meant what I said though.
I'll become the Number One Hero without it. With my own power, my own strength, my own will. I'll become a Hero that'll make dad proud.
Besides, if it's Izuku, then it's alright. He'll use it and become a wonderful Hero.
Katsuki, Izuku, Toa, and I are going to U.A. We're going to become Heroes.
I stood fast and threw my fist up. "Alright!" I hype myself up.
However I accidentally put my Quirk into it and the light fixture shook before falling. Toa quickly put her hand out and it stopped mid fall before floating back and hooking back into place over the lightbulb. Both of them gave me a flat look. I scratched my cheek and laughed nervously.
"My bad."
