CHAPTER SIX: Curiosity Kills the Cat

▬▬  E T H A N  ▬▬

I ALMOST KILLED A GIRL WITH MY CAR.

Holding the driving wheel tightly in my hands, a deep breath escaped my lips, eyes widened at what happened. My sister, who was still in the passenger seat, almost looked as if she was going to have a heart attack as soon as I had stepped on the break and accidentally bumped into the horn - also scaring the girl outside.

I didn't notice that the stoplight had already turned red so I sped off carelessly. The only thing that I didn't expect is that a girl would cross over, and immediately shouted at me as I almost reached her - making me even more confused, immediately stepping on the brakes.

And to be honest, it wasn't just any girl. It was that girl from Jollibee.

Of all the people in the world, why her? Why now? Don't tell me that it's just another coincidence. I have seen her several times and something bad always happens to me. She's just like a walking bad-luck charm to me.

Just shaken from what happened, I felt Ate Yen patting me on the shoulder and suddenly spoke right next to my ear. Of course, I was also surprised because she was too close to me.

"What the fvck just happened, Ethan?" she said irritably as I quickly glanced at her to my right. It was obvious on my sister's face that she was still very shaken until now because we never thought that such an accident could happen.

I wouldn't blame her though, 'cause I also felt the same.

"Yen, I'm sorry, okay?" I said before looking at her in the mirror. Irritated, she took her bag that was next to me and decided to look at her belongings.

"Are you okay there in the back?" I added before taking a deep breath. She looked at me in the mirror and nodded, averted her eyes after a while, and turned her attention outside.

She seems to be frustrated to actually talk to me. Though, in her forced attempt, she gave me an unexpected response.

"I'm alright. But I shouldn't be the one you'd ask that question," she said as I raised an eyebrow. Well, who does she want me to talk to? Since I was confused, I asked for her explanation.

"And to whom should I ask that?" When she glanced at me again, she laughed. It's just not genuine. This was the sarcastic laugh that she always gives whenever I say some nonsense.

"I don't know. How about that girl? Can you ask her if she was okay when you almost ran over her?"

"Look, I know that you're mad."

"Well, at least you noticed that," she said to me before she waved me off. I just let out a deep sigh before turning my attention back to driving.

I just swallowed and kept quiet when she scolded me even more. She was still going at me since I broke the speed limit and almost crashed the car into someone without knowing. Well, technically, this car was my sister's so I could understand why she was worried.

Damn.

And here I thought that today was great.

As soon as we arrived at school, I saw that the guard had already opened the gates so that we could park inside.

To be honest, my only goal is to catch up with the enlistment so that I can no longer have to wait for another day and go back in here. The reason why I'm using this one was that I tried driving my car too fast from the regular speed limit - to which I got scolded back then for trying to test drive it as a racing car or some sort.

Still, I didn't follow that rule.

I quickly parked my sister's Mercedes-Benz and got out of the car. And because I don't want the past to happen again, my sister let me use her car and almost become her personal driver now.

Adjusting the red polo I was wearing, I heard a familiar voice that seemed to walk down the hallway. Looking at the two girls that had been conversing a talk with each other, I noticed the girl on the left.

She was wearing denim and a black T-shirt and blue skinny jeans. Judging by how she walks, talks, and acts, she seemed like the shy type.

But, when I saw her face, I immediately widened my eyes and shook my head.

Hell no.

When I saw her just pass in front of me, I couldn't help myself but look down and made sure that she doesn't see me. I suddenly facepalmed and looked up in annoyance once she passed by.

Again? Are you serious right now?

I turned my attention back to my sister and saw that she seemed to be wondering why I stopped walking. Well, who wouldn't stop?

It was that girl again; she's here in my fvcking university.

I really thought that everything was going smoothly.

Why out of all places should she enroll here? Is this a sign that I should actually transfer to another school? Why did she even choose this university?

Maybe my sister noticed my irritation so she immediately approached me - I could hear her boots echoing in the hallway. I remained silent until I felt my sister tapped me on the shoulder.

"Ethan, are you okay? Why do you seem surprised seeing that woman?" she asked me in astonishment before pointing to the girl who seemed to be still walking inside the school.

"It's nothing. Don't worry. I'm fine," I said quickly before walking again - leaving my sister who still seemed to be curious behind me. Just a few seconds later, she followed.

In all honesty, I want my sister to transfer.

The only problem is that she was the one who decided to study here with me so that she could monitor my actions closely. So my life here at the university will be like having a bodyguard next to me - and that bodyguard would be my actual sister.

And of course, she'll tell my girlfriend everything that I do in this school. Trapped and choking in a relationship. Instead of me being the dominant boyfriend, the situation was that I was the one under her - and I hated that.

It's a very toxic relationship, to be blunt. And if it can be called a forced relationship, then there would be no difference.

When I walked into the campus, I was just surprised by the loud shouts of the women as soon as I arrive. I noticed that a lot of them were smiling and almost screamed as I passed in front of them.

It's not that I'm arrogant or anything, but I'm guessing that they recognized me. I mean, who wouldn't? And to be honest, I was used to it already. I just didn't expect them to still have the same reaction.

When I was going to the admission myself, the others gave way for me to enlist. I was a Basketball player at this university so I got these gestures often. Yes, I was an old student here. And knowing that the girl I saw earlier was a transferee, I knew that she might not actually know who I am.

But I'll make sure that she'll know not to mess with me.

Looking through the queue, I immediately saw the woman in front of me with her friend. My only problem is that there are other guys that were still in line so I couldn't talk to her. Luckily, the rest of them were my fellow members of the Basketball team.

I tapped the shoulder of one of my teammates right in front of me and whispered next to his ear. "Hey, maybe I can take your place. I'm just in a hurry. My sister is still waiting."

He just nodded and told another colleague. Almost all of them agreed so when I walked up front, I saw the woman right in front of me. The only problem was that she had her back turned.

Surprisingly, at this angle, her height seems to have decreased, and she kind of gained weight.

Before I could even tap her on the shoulder, I heard my name getting called immediately so I turned to look back. I then saw Benedict - who was smiling at me before walking in my direction.

What is he even doing here?

Those women were overjoyed and thrilled when Benedict walked over to me while he just smiled back at the women on the left and right, waving as well.

"Are you here to enlist, bro?" he asked me. Since my sister was with me, I just nodded and answered.

"Yeah, but this girl in front of me looks like she'll take a long time to enlist," I mumbled as the friend looked at me with a glare. I just smiled back in a teasing manner before pushing them softly to the left.

"Excuse me, girls. I'm in a hurry."

This is my only response before walking ahead of them. Turning again in their direction, I thought I could see the familiar face of that woman from Jollibee.

But, this is not what I saw.

"Such disrespect. Is that how you teenagers act nowadays?" replied a mother who seemed to be holding papers for her daughter, who looked like she was still in middle grade - who I actually thought was her friend.

Embarrassed, I immediately apologized and let them line up again as Benedict's eyes widened at what had happened. As I looked around, I noticed a woman who seemed to be smiling at what had happened, her friend trying not to burst out laughing.

Fvck, that's her.

And there she was, once again laughing at me.
