Chapter 23:
When we got back it was like 6 a.m. and Sarah had to rush us around. She had curling irons and makeup on the sink. Ash was struggling under pressure into his suit. Their guitars leaning against the wall covered in dried war paint. Sarah had curled up her hair into an edgy pretty do that showed feminism and gothy in the same. She had her clothes off other than her bra and underwear but showed no modesty and walked around the room searching for things. She grabbed her fishnets and slid them on then adding on her combat boots. Her hair was in nice 1800's rings that had their edgy appeal to them.
"Have you seen my studded bracelets?" She asked still without clothes. I stared down at the ground and said,
"Check on the counter." She nodded and grabbed them, slapping them on her wrists and grabbing her dress. Ash had his Ronnie Radke style tux on and started to dye his hair tips grey. I had my tux on and was trying to help Sarah in any way I could. If she asked me where something was I would help find it and if she needed help with makeup or something I would help. She had her dress on which made her look amazing if I might be so bold enough to say. She rolled down the top of the dress and walked into the bathroom. When she came out she had her dress on and the bottom was rolled up to the tops of her knees so that you could see her fish nets and combat boots.
"You ready?" She asked us wrapping some more studded belts around her dress. We nodded and got off the bed. Ash said he needed to grab something from downstairs since he left something on the counter. I dove into the crevice between the wall and the bed expecting a parent to come barging in. Sarah stood her ground while applying heavy black makeup and white foundation to her face. She had war paint done up like on of her BVB members. She looked in the mirror running her finger over the slightest smudge of eyeliner and then sighed and walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked peeking from behind the bed.
"Well I'm not going out the window, I'll kill myself."
"Isn't that what you want?" I questioned.
"Well...not today at least." And she grabbed her guitar and walked out the door. But a couple seconds later she popped her head in saying in a low whispered voice, "You know there are spiders down there." I jumped, literally, out of the crevice and onto the bed shivering and shaking myself off from phantom spiders. She laughed knowing my irrational fear of creepy, 8 legged, venom filled, arachnids.
"No there aren't!" I yelled to her when she was halfway up the hallway. I had gotten off the bed and was at the door when she called,
"Then what's that on your back?" I scowled and gave myself fear bumps as I swatted aimlessly at my back. I smiled at the back of the door and then followed them out the door and down the stairs. A huge scream was then heard from the downstairs so I rushed down the stairs. A middle aged woman in a pencil skirt and pink button up shirt and a white bead necklace. She was staring at Sarah and Ash, I looked pretty normal.
"Mom...this is Sarah. My girlfriend." WHAT! When was I going to be introduced to this information! I mean seriously, am I the only one who didn't know this?! Ugghhh...........
"And this is Heath, Heath Gale. You know the surfer."
"Oh your father will hear about this, that you had these...miscreants over and they're and you're dressing like this. My son will never dress like a rocker or whatever your satanic self likes." Ash closed his eyes, sighed and then opened them again. "And he will not be corresponding with others who dress in devil clothes."
"Mom, can you just understand for a moment that I am not satanic or evil for a second! I am not and just because I dress and like these kinds of things does not make me a horrible person."
"QUIET!! BOTH OF YOU!! Now you," Sarah said pointing at Ash's mom, "I like your son and I won't let you stand in the way of that just because you don't understand something. So excuse us, we have a party. A party full of rockers, emos, scenes, goths, and perfectly unperfect people." She mocked a smile and I looked at the shocked, wide mouthed Ash's mom before Ash smiled and they walked out the door. I stood there while Ash's mother stood there with her mouth wide open. I cleared my throat and watched her head turn towards me.
"You're son isn't bad, I promise you that, he is a great teenager who will do great things. You may not like or understand the things he likes but that doesn't make him or his likes bad. Give him a chance. He's your son after all." She closed her mouth and stared down at her shoes.
"You're right. He is my son, and I should respect him like a mother should respect her son. I'll try to be more open minded in the future. Thank you Heath. But I'm afraid your father will have to have a call." She smiled and I smiled back.
"And by the way, Ash goes to church with Sarah and I every Sunday." She gave herself a sad smile and I walked out the door. Sarah and Ash were already in the car when I for in front. Sarah slammed her hand against the horn and I jumped. Ash and Sarah smiled at me as I got into the car.
"She'll never understand me." Ash said. I shook my head and Ash gave me an inquisitive look.
"I explained to her, she said she would try to be more open minded and would respect you and your ideals." Ash smiled and fist punched me. Then we drove ourselves to the party.
