1- Leaving L.A.

Tiffany sits in the office of her childhood friend and attorney David Delany, thinking about what happened the night before when her husband Michael came home belligerently drunk and obnoxious accusing her of sleeping with his best friend. Getting in her face and shoving her up against the wall, his hand sliding down into her panties, checking her out to see if she had been having sex.

"Get your filthy hands off of me. If anyone was having sex it looks like you were by the lipstick stain on your collar." Tiffany barks shoving him away from her.

Michael grabs her shoving her to the ground, pinning her down he rips her panties off and thrusts himself inside of her. "I better not ever see or hear you ever cheating on me or it will be the last thing you ever did."

Remembering word per word of what Michael had said to her, she wipes the tears away as she talks with her attorney. He then goes over the forms with Tiffany having her initial and sign on the lines as he flips through each page for her to sign. "Tonight he is having a party at our house, I plan on leaving sometime during the night while he has all them people over, please wait to deliver these until tomorrow after I am long gone. I don't want him to ever find me."

"Where are you heading to?" He asks concerned.

"Where ever the long road takes me, I just want to be far, far away from here, and to never return." Quivering her lips, trying to hold back the tears.

Her attorney friend leans forward folding his hands together and looks at her feeling sorry for her. "You're a strong woman, you always have been, where is the woman I grew up with that was strong willed and full of integrity?"

"I'm still here. I just cannot believe this is happening, you should have seen him David, the color of his eyes changed colors, the coloring of his face, everything, he looked like the devil." She looks away "This had been going on for months, I've been waiting for the right time to leave. Promise me you will not say one word to him on where I am." She sighs.

"Well how can I tell him where you are when you haven't even told me? Do you even have a car to leave in?"

"No, I have no car. He took my car away the other day. And what I meant by that was don't tell him that you know I had left town, just let him know that you know nothing other than to have those papers delivered to him."

"Tiffany... he will know that I know something, he knows that we've been best friends since grade school."

"Just please act like you know nothing."

David stands up and walks over to her taking her hand helping her up and gives her a hug. "Tonight I will drop off a car and leave the keys under the floormat for you. I have a car that I was planning on junking but you can have it. It runs and drives, doesn't look very pretty but it will get you to where you want to be." He tells her rubbing her back.

"Why are you junking it if it runs?"

"Because it looks like shit." He laughs. "It's an old Honda Accord, you'll know which one it is when you see it. I'll park it down the street from your house."

"Thank you so much. I owe you one."

"Don't worry about it, you don't owe me anything, just be safe is all I ask, and be sure to call me sometime to let me know that you're OK."

Tiffany leaves his office and stands outside looking into the bright blue sky amazed that there isn't one single cloud in the sky. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, she feels somewhat free after signing the papers, she now has to figure out how to sneak out of the house without anyone seeing her. She hurries home to pack clothes and to try to hide her bag somewhere so that she has some clothes to change into.

Michael isn't due to come home for another couple hours, figuring he doesn't know that she knows the code to the safe she quickly opens it to see if there was any money and was shocked to see wads of cash stuffed into the safe, grabbing one bundle of cash from the back she didn't think he would miss it, she put everything back to the way it was and left his office.

She went in her room grabbing the bag that was packed and hurried out of the house she hid her bag down the street behind some trees where nobody will ever notice and walked back home. Knowing that Michael was having a party she hopped in the shower and got ready, and acted as if everything was normal.

Tiffany was standing in front of the mirror doing her hair, she heard the front door open and closed her eyes cringing at the thought that he was home. Michael walked behind her wrapping his arms around her waist kissing her neck. "I'm sorry about last night, I had a little too much to drink." He said in a low tone.

Tiffany didn't respond to him, all she wanted was for him to take his hands off of her. He slid his hand up to her chin pulling her to face him as he looked over her shoulder. "I said I was sorry, you can at least acknowledge that you heard me."

"I heard you." She snapped.

He spins her around to face him grabbing her shoulders he places a hard kiss on her lips. "Don't you embarrass me tonight."

"Why would I do that?" She says nonchalantly.

He releases her spinning her back around "Just be a good girl tonight and we all will be happy." He says as he walks out. She turned and flipped him off using both hands as his back was to hers. She couldn't wait until later and finally be free.

As guests arrive Michael kept her right at the hip not letting her leave his side. A server stood by her handing out drinks, when Michael wasn't looking she quickly grabbed a glass of champagne off the tray and slammed it placing the empty glass back on the tray. Michael had noticed a group of investers walk in, and left Tiffany's side. "Excuse me." He tells her releasing his arm from the small of her back.

Tiffany breathes in deep and closes her eyes. She opens her eyes and smiles when she sees Michael head to his office with the group of men. She took this as her chance to quietly sneak out of the house with nobody looking.

Making it outside she starts to run taking her heels off and holding them in her hand, running to her bag, she spotted the car David had parked and quickly ran to the car, finding the keys where he said they would be. Looking in the rearview mirror making sure nobody had seen her and had started to follow her.

Worried that she would have to stop and get gas, looking at her dash she saw that David filled the tank for her, nodding her head "Awe." She says with a smile. She then cranked the tunes and stepped hard on the gas pedal, not knowing where she was going, she drove to the highway and just kept driving until she needed gas again.

After six hours of driving she was getting pretty tired, stopping to get gas and found a rest stop to shut her eyes for a little while. She was sleeping pretty good until someone banged on her window, making her jump off her seat thinking it was Michael her heart dropped. She turned her head and saw an older gentleman standing there, she cracked her window "Are you OK ma'am?" He asked with a concerned look on his face.

"I'm fine thank you, just getting a little rest that's all." She smiled. She then started the car "Thank you for waking me up, I slept a little longer than planned."

After he walked away she watched him get into his semi, she then took off making a few stops along the way, getting gas and munchies. While she was driving her car started to make noises and started chugging and smoking. "You've got to be kidding me." She screamed as the car started slowing down. When the car finally quit, she got out and opened her hood, filling her face with heavy smoke. Coughing and waving the smoke away from her face, she went and sat back in the car waiting for a car to drive by.

After sitting in her car for more than an hour not one car drove by so she left her things and started walking hoping to run into something open ahead. "Dammit David." She kept cussing as she was walking "I'm out in the middle of fucking nowhere and the car just has to fucking break down, just fucking great." She yells. She finally comes across a motel and walks in banging on the bell when nobody was there.

An older woman walks out from the back "Something I can help you with dear?"

"My fucking car broke down way the fuck back over there, I have no fucking clue where I am, I sat out there for over an hour not one fucking car drove by, I probably walked for another hour, so here I am..." She snapped.

"By the sound of it, you could use some sleep." She says calmly raising an eyebrow.

"Gee you think? I've only been driving for what seems like twenty four hours and slept for maybe two of them hours."

"How about I help you out, I'll give you a room half off, being that it is four in the morning, I will also give you the number to call to have your car fixed. He's a local here that does good work." She says writing down his number and handing it to her.

"Caleb?" She questions.

"Yes, that will be him." She winked at her "You can have the room for $50."

"$50 for a motel room that you said is half off? That's highway robbery! Holy fuck.... that room better be fucking nice." She griped digging in her purse for money.

"For a pretty gal like you, you have quite the mouth on you."

"Can I have the key to the room.." She snapped. The older lady raised her eyebrow at her. Tiffany taking a deep breath holding her hand out "Please."

"That's the word I was looking for." She smiled handing her the key. "Room 12." She says to her.

Tiffany snatches the key from her hand and marches out of the office. The older lady smiles as she leaves "That girl will get put in her place by Caleb.. uh huh." She laughed.

She walks toward the room cussing, when she opens the door and turned on the light she stood there staring at the bed, walls and ceiling. "You have to be fucking kidding me they normally get $100 for this? Wow, what a ripoff."

In disgust she locks the door and puts the chain on, turning around she looks at the bed and sighs, walking over to the bed she sits down and cringes as it creaked while she sat. "One morning's sleep and I am out of here." She mumbled as she looked at the number the lady wrote down, setting the piece of paper down on the nightstand.

Waking up groggy the next day to someone pounding on the door, slowly getting out of bed to answer the door, it was housekeeping wanting to clean the room. "Oh.. what time is check out?" She asks trying to focus her eyes as the sun was beating on her eyes.

"It was an hour ago."

"Ah shit, I'll be out of your hair in a second." She walks over to grab the phone number off the nightstand and grabs her purse. "The room is all yours." She says as she walks out of the room. Walking into the office to check out she was then informed that she will be paying for another night at full price. "That's a bunch of shit, where is the lady that was working this morning?"

"She will be here tonight, she works the overnights." The young gal informed her.

She huffs "I guess I'm staying another fucking night." Handing her more money "Where can I find this Caleb guy? I seemed to have forgotten my phone back home."

The young girl gave her directions explaining to her that he might be at the fire station which was just up the street. Tiffany leaves and starts walking to the fire station, when she arrived there was nobody in there. Sighing she steps back outside, looking at what was around. Her stomach had started to growl and noticed across the street that there was bar. Hoping they had some food she headed over there.

As she walked closer she could hear loud talking and laughter coming from inside the bar. Adjusting her dress and hair before walking inside, she opened the door and all heads turned to her. Without looking at anyone she walked up to the bar and sat down.

The bartender gave her a strange stare and walked over to her. "Haven't seen you in here before." He says checking her out.

"That's right you haven't, is that a problem?" She snapped.

"No.. no problem at all, what can I get for you?"

"If you serve food, I'd like a fucking menu."

The bartender's eyes got wide, reaching under the bar he pulled out a menu and handed it to her along with a glass of water. "Take your time, I'll be right back to take your order." He walks away and walks over to a table full of a group of guys. "Watch out we have a live one over at the bar." The bartender says quietly to the men. They all look over at her and started to hoot and holler. Tiffany could here them talking about her, she turned around flipping them off and called for the bartender to come take her order.

After finishing her burger she stood up to pay for her meal. Waving the bartender down to pay him "Do you have any idea where I can find this Caleb guy?" She asks as she pays him.

"Maybe." He grinned. "Why, what's your interest in him?"

"No interest in him, I need my fucking car fixed so that I can get out of this hell of a hole town."

The bartender shook his head at her remark "With an attitude like that you might be looking for him for a while." He laughed.

"Forget it, I'll just keep looking for him." She snapped. She turned around and started walking towards the exit, she slipped on a beer spill near the door, as she was falling she was caught by a younger man that was heading out the door.

"Get your filthy hands off of me." She snapped. As she took a look at him, she thought he was the most sexiest man she had met in a long time, and tightened her lip.

"Fine." He says releasing her causing her to fall on the ground. "You asshole." She yelled at him as he walked out the door. The bartender got a chuckle as did everyone else in the bar. "That my dear is Caleb." The bartender laughed.

"Shit." She stood up embarrassed and ran after him.
