Chapter 23. In My Head
Devin wasn't too keen on the idea of Lucas moving out of the house and into the cabin, it took some arguing back and forth but begrudgingly Devin relented. He knew that Lucas needed to be with us as much as he wanted him near him.
Although I think he ended up being happy with Lucas moving in with us as we all had terrible nightmares. Devin told us he could hear us screaming at night from inside of his own home. Just imagine how much louder it would be for him if Lucas and I were in the house with him like he wanted.
Devin still watched us closely, watching how we acted around each other.
I was thankful that we were all together in the small cabin. We were able to comfort each other. We know what the other went through. Usually it was Wanda and Alan helping each other as Lucas and I would help one another.
I would hate for anyone to be around the cabin when we do go through our nightmares, some scary and strange things do happen in our little cabin. One night Wanda was shooting magic out as if it was the Fourth of July. It was quite scary when it happened, I was awoken by a blast of light in my room and then I heard her screams. All of us rushed in there to help her and wake her up, Wanda had absolutely no idea what she had done. For Lucas, Alan and myself we just have a mix of snarls and growls that make it seem like we are about to kill anyone near us.
Alice was spending her days trying to get us to talk about our nightmares in an effort to ease them, but I know that we will be plagued with these nightmares for a very long time. No amount of talking about them will help us right now.
With Lucas moving out Devin made us promise to go over and eat every single meal with him, just so he could 'keep an eye on us' and that was what I was getting ready for right now. Dinner with Devin and everyone else, I had been skipping some of the meals because I just didn't feel up to it but apparently Devin has now had enough of my moping around and said that I have to be at dinner tonight. No excuses.
I sighed as I pulled the sky blue tank top over my head, Alice has brought over some more clothes for us all to wear since we haven't been able to leave and get our own things. We haven't even met anyone in the pack yet.
"Are you ready?" Lucas called out through the door, he was starting to become like a mother hen towards me, always keeping tabs on me and needing to know what I was doing. It was almost starting to annoy me, but I know that he means well. And to be honest I do the same to him.
"Yeah just give me a minute!" I shouted back as I brushed and tied my hair back into a high ponytail. I ended up cutting it the other day, well I let Wanda do it because she was bored, she cut all of our hair. Mine now falls just above my shoulders, I cant remember a time when it was this short, it was hard to get used to as I watched the shorter bits fall out of the hair tie around my face.
Wanda cut hers herself into a bob with one side just a bit longer then the other. And for the boys, well Lucas just cut his so it was still sort of long but now instead of it reaching below his shoulders, the back of it now reaches about midway down his neck. He likes it long and shaggy apparently. And for Alan, he said he wanted to look 'edgy' which we all rolled our eyes at and laughed at him, none of us could picture Alan with an edgy haircut. But surprisingly enough it worked for him. He had the sides of his head shaved while he left the top at about a medium length to which he tousles and spikes up a bit every day. He loves it and who are we to judge him.
I walked up to Lucas who was standing and waiting by the front door. "You ready now?" He smiled to which I could only nod.
I followed him up to the house, I could smell dinner and it smelled absolutely delicious. I could smell the garlic bread that I assume Alice has made and brought over, she has been sharing meals with us as well lately. I could also smell the chicken pesto pasta as we walked through the door and the BBQ ribs that were cooking. An odd combination I know but hey Devin cooks the best ribs I have ever eaten in my life.
Everyone was sitting and laughing around the dinner table when we entered. Devin was sitting at the head of the table as he is the man of the house with a spot on either side of him saved for Lucas and myself, I was on the left where females usually sit while Lucas was to the left of him. Next to me Wanda and Alan sat next to Lucas While Alice was at the other end of the table opposite Devin.
The table was already set and the food was lain out in the centre waiting for us all to pick apart and devour. We all still had large appetites making up for all of the meals we had missed. Slowly all of us were putting on the much-needed weight. We all took our portions after Devin each of us ending up with a large plate of pasta and a few ribs each, and when I saw a few I mean we all had a rack of ribs to ourselves.
As we were all stuffing our faces full of food Devin spoke up. "Now that you are all starting to get settled in I can't put it off any longer." He sighed looking down at his plate. What was he putting off?
"After dinner." Alice cut in sensing that Devin didn't want to be the one to say it. "The Alpha would like to speak to you all about what has happened and what you all plan to do." She didn't sound happy about it.
"Alice and I will be there to, so there is nothing to worry about." Devin tried to smile but he doesn't look like a man who knows how to smile it came out like a mix between a grimace and a look of pain.
"And after that." Alice continued. "It is time for you two to shift, I know it will hurt but it has been almost a week and the longer you put it off the worse it will get." She looked over at both Lucas and I apologetically.
We had been putting it off, neither of us were looking forward to the pain of shifting for the first time in moon knows how long. They haven't actually told us yet how long we have been gone for, I think they were saving that for our conversation with the Alpha.
A conversation that we all wanted to put off what knew had to happen sooner or later. We all ate our meal quickly and silently after that news. We all felt like it was better to get everything out of the way now.
When we had finished we started cleaning up for Devin as he went into his home office with Alice, was something going on there? Wanda and I cleared the table, taking the dishes to the sink to throwing out the rubbish while the boys washed and dried the dishes.
There was a nervous tension in the air, no one was ready for this, we all knew it had to happen and we had held on long enough already. I just wish we had more time to prepare. I am not mentally ready for this conversation.
Will this Alpha believe us? Will any one really believe us? I know that Alice does, I am unsure about Devin, but at least they know that we have been through something terrible. Alice saw what had been done to us.
And because of that I am happy that they are coming with us, there is no way I can get through this without them by our sides.
"It's time." Alice spoke to us in a soft voice, we had all finished our small little after dinner clean up duties.
I was thankful that it was a bit of a walk to the pack house from Devin's place, apparently Devin wanted some peace and quiet from the world when he built his home. Which I can't blame him about, our old home was away from the pack as well. Sometimes you just need your own space away from everyone else.
You don't want just anyone coming into your den.
No one spoke on the way there, what could we say? Yeah I know that what we are about to tell this Alpha seems like a fairy tale but lets just hope for the best?
Yeah, I don't see that conversation helping any of us out.
It was a very slow walk, we want to drag it out for as long as possible, well at least I know I do. I think the idea of shifting again for the first time is scaring me more then talking to this Alpha that we know nothing about.
Devin spoke up when the pack house came into sight. "Alpha Travis is a kind man, as long as you stay in line and only talk when spoken to, he will hear you out." I could hear it in his voice, he wasn't convinced of what he was saying.
It made me nervous and I hated this feeling. I stood in awe of the pack house as we came closer to it, double story and made out of blue stone with vines growing along side it, it looked like it came straight out of a fairy tale.
I took in a deep breath as we all followed Alice and Devin into this grand house. We followed them through all of the twists and turns until we landed in front of a door, in front of a room that reeked of authority.
I knew that this was the Alpha's office. Devin knocked on the door and we all waited for one very long minute that felt like an eternity.
"Enter." A gruff voice called from inside the room, this was it. This was the moment that I had been dreading, that I was afraid of.
I glanced around the room, it was dark and gloomy, and the only light came from a desk light on the dark mahogany desk. Which was a slight contrast to the tall and broad sandy blonde man sitting behind the desk. He looked up at us as we entered with pricing forest green eyes looking over each and everyone of us. I held his eyes for a moment before looking away, remember that to look into an Alphas' eyes means to challenge him.
He didn't say much, instead the woman who had been sitting on his lap stepped forward to us, she was small, smaller then most females with short black air cut into a face framing pixie bob with the most amazing eyes I have ever seen, they were a mix of green and blue just like a river meeting the trees.
"Come, come sit down." She ushered us into the room and over to the four chairs that were sitting in front of the desk. "I am Luna Carla, and this is my mate, Alpha Travis." She smiled over at all of us trying to make us feel comfortable.
The four of us took a seat while Devin and Alice stood off to the side if us. I could see Alpha Travis' wolf behind his eyes, peering out and assessing all of us. Mine was on edge, but I pushed her back, we weren't ready for any form of socialising yet, we haven't even shifted yet.
There was a moment of silence, no one knowing what to say, is there an icebreaker for a situation like this? I certainly don't know any.
"Do you want something to drink? To relax yourselves? Luna Carla asked us. She didn't wait for an answer before we even knew it she was out of the door to what I assume was the kitchen.
Alpha Travis let out a tense breathe shaking his head slightly at the Luna who had just flown out of the room with a small smile on his lips, it was a blink and you miss it kind of smile.
"What are your names?" Alpha Travis asked getting this meeting started finally as he pointed over to Alan to begin
"Alan Eugene Grey." Alpha Travis nodded and wrote down his name while we all had to stifle a laugh, Alan's parents must have hated him giving him that name. Alpha Travis was oblivious to us as he pointed at Wanda to go next, She took a deep breathe in before speaking.
"Wanda Camille Millsworth." Alpha Travis hummed and looked over to Lucas.
"Lucas Colton Evans." Alpha Travis looked over to Devin.
"As in?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, my nephew." Devin stepped forward. I thought the pack already knew about them being related.
Finally he pointed at me I almost had to take a second to remember my name, it had been so long since I had to think about who I was before all of this mess. "Lucinda Annabeth Morgan." He looked up at me before he wrote down my name.
"A Morgan?" he asked with eyes slightly widening, to which I just nodded a yes back to him as he shared a look with Devin. A look that I feel as though I have to ask about later.
Before he could ask anymore questions his Luna, Carla came back into the room with a tray of hot chocolate for all of us, she even had a container of marshmallows and some whipped cream for us.
She handed us each a cup with a smile on her face, touching each of us on the hand letting us know that she was here to comfort us if we needed anything before she went back and sat on Alpha Travis' lap.
"Both Alice and Devin here have told us what happened but we need to hear it from you." Luna Carla spoke in a very soothing voice. "I know that this will be hard on you all and it isn't something that you want to revisit, but we need to know everything." This Luna was soft but firm, and I understand. They can't help us if they don't know our story, from our own lips.
The four of us looked around at each other praying for someone else to talk first. Alan went to speak first when a few small taps on the door interrupted him.
"Come in please." The Luna smiled at us as a vampire walked into the room. Alice raised a brow in question to which the Luna responded. "This here is Lorenzo, he is a friend with special talents so if they don't feel up to speaking he can for them." She smiled over to us.
She explained how he could jump into our minds and see what we saw see our memories or something like that.
I feel like this is something that we should have been told about prior to this meeting, although it may be easier if he does just jump into our minds. I looked over the vampire, he was tall about has tall as Jordan was I think about 6'4 he was dressed in a navy suit obviously Italian just like himself. He had olive skin, with incredible dark brown almost black eyes that were hypnotising. His black hair was combed back and slick, and to be honest he kind of looked bored with everything around him.
Alan looked him up and down unsure of him, as did the rest of us. "Would you like to tell us or would you like Lorenzo here to do so for you?" Alpha Travis asked, a part of me felt like we didn't have a choice in the matter. That Lorenzo would be in our minds either way.
"Just let him go through my mind, it will be easier that way." I spoke up. To which everyone looked at me like I had grown another head, I think that I am the only one to realise that he will be in our minds whether we agree or not.
"Are you sure sweetheart?" The Luna asked me to which I just nodded my head, after I agreed the others did as well.
Lorenzo looked came over to me first, looking down apologetically as he waited for me to give him the go ahead, which was yet another nod of my head.
I wasn't ready for what this experience was, he jumped into my head and it was as though I wasn't in this room anymore, I was back there. I was reliving that nightmare again.
I had no control over anything in my mind at that moment, Lorenzo was navigating his way through my memories seeing what I had been through and I was just a passenger along for the ride.
He saw everything that I saw from when I was taken to how we got out, nothing was hidden from him. I was just thankful that I was in my mind I didn't know what was going on around me at the moment.
It felt like forever when he finally jumped out of my mind. "I am so sorry." He apologised to me with what seemed to be tears forming in his eyes. "No one deserves what you went through." That was one thing that I agreed with, no one deserved what we went through.
It was beyond torture.
Luna Carla looked at me with sad eyes as Alice walked over and hugged with shooting a glare over to the Luna, if I didn't know any better I would say that these two females did not like each other.
"Here drink up." Luna Carla handed me back the cup that I had placed on the desk when Lorenzo jumped into my mind. "The chocolate in it will help you feel a little better." The vampire gave me a soft smile.
I wasn't with it when the others had Lorenzo jump into there minds, I could faintly hear there whimpers and cries but I was too lost in the pain of the past, I would have a new set of nightmares tonight.
Devin, Alice and the Alpha couple talked back and forth for a while once Lorenzo was done with all of us and took his leave not without apologising to us all one last time.
I saw it in his eyes he hated his gift. He hated bringing others pain but he knew he had to. It was the only way to get to the truth.
The four of us just sat down like zombies as the others bickered back and forth. Before I knew it Alice and Devin were dragging us out of there. I zoned into the conversation just as we left with Alpha Travis yelling madly about how he will find those monsters.
I guess it's a good thing that they believed us.
Right?
"We are going home, now." Alice whispered into my ear as they got us all to hurry up with our walk.
"Are we-" I didn't even get to finish my sentence before she butted in.
"No, I think you have been through enough for tonight." She let a small snarl out as she tried to rub my arm in a soothing manner.
