Chapter 14. And So It Continues
It was the fear in Anton's eyes that pushed us to run further and faster. Pushing our bodies to the limits in an attempt to escape with our lives.
If he was afraid it meant that we were in trouble. He seemed like a wolf that wasn't afraid of many things.
When he told us to run we did so without a second thought. Even the witch and the vampire stayed with us, they assumed they were safer with us then what they could be on their own. We were slowed down due to the small witch she was in a weakened state and witches do not posses the extra spend and strength that wolves and vampires do.
I pulled the witch along with me as Lucas pulled me, I was not letting go of her hand and leaving her to fend for herself against those monsters.
I would be no better then them if I did that.
A part of me felt bad that I didn't even know the names of the witch and vampire, but in our current situation. There was no time to exchange pleasantries.
It was kill or be killed. Ask all necessary questions at a later time when we could catch our breathes and relax.
I don't think I would even know how to relax if we got out of this hellhole.
I could hear them gaining on us, footsteps growing loudly. The panic was settling into my bones crawling up body trying to stop me and freeze me to my spot leaving me as nothing but an easy target.
A part of me was surprised that the vampire didn't take off and continue on his own, he was fast a hell of a lot faster then us wolves. He would have a chance to make it out of here if he left us, but he didn't just like he stayed with the witch before we came along.
The fear that was crawling and slithering through my body was getting harder to fight off, they were getting closer and closer to us and soon they would be right on top of us, killing us, torturing us doing whatever they pleased.
It was at that moment that the vampire did something that I may thank him for, for the rest of our lives. He came rushing back to us and gave me a look I can't quite describe it. But something about that look he gave me made me pull the small witch towards him. He grabbed her, throwing her over his shoulder allowing us to move faster. Carrying her slowed him down but it made our group move a little faster.
We were starting to outrun the hunters once again. I just hope that we are able to keep our head start. I had no idea how long we had been running for, or how long we had left before they started capturing us again instead of killing us.
I can't go back into a change, I just can't. It will destroy me if I go back in there. I would rather a long, painful and torturous death any day before going back into those cages.
"Luc." Lucas pulled on my hand as I was slowing down. I didn't know the land that they were on was so big and I was tiering quickly. "Are you okay?" He asked worry lines forming on his forehead.
"I'll be fine." I waved him off, we needed to keep going no matter how tired we were getting.
I was panting hard my lungs burning with the air going into them feeling cold and harsh, I needed a breather but now wasn't the time. There wouldn't be a time to catch my breath until we were safe in a pack, or even along side the humans.
If we are even able to make it that far.
We could hear them shouting now, they were having too much fun laughing as they tried to taunt other victims that they had come across, ones that were as lucky as us.
We came across body parts, limbs and blood everywhere. I gagged every time we came across a scene like that. I smell of death was everywhere and the ground wet with blood, warm blood that hasn't even cooled from the body it had fallen from. They really were monsters. I haven't ever seen wolves or vampires cause this type of massacre before. Which was making me question, how did they manage this, I know that we are all weak at the moment but this just seems like it was too easy to for them to do this.
Did these people not put up a fight? Did they just lay down and die? It just doesn't make any sense to me.
"Oh thank goddess." Anton whispered, I gave him a confused look as he pointed over to the sign, the black sign. We were close to our freedom now, I could almost taste it on my tongue. This gave us hope, and a burst of energy to keep going, but we had to be careful.
We didn't know what traps could be here waiting for us. The sun was starting to set on us now, hopefully the setting sun could help us sneak through I didn't have enough energy left in me to fight and run.
It was one or the other right now and I wanted to find safety so that I could come back here with an army just like Conner said. These hunters need to be wiped out for good.
We all let out a breathe of relief seeing this we all believed that we could make it now. As long as we stayed smart about how we went forward from here.
"Hide over there behind those trees, stay until I signal for you." Anton spoke herding us all off. He was going alone to make sure that the coast was clear. I sent a prayer up to the moon hoping that he would be fine, that we all would be fine. I didn't want to loose anyone else today, I kept looking behind me, just hoping to get one last look at my family, not knowing what happened to them was torture to me.
If they were able to run from the hunters I just hope that they got a quick death and didn't suffer for long.
I just wish I could have a sense of closure before I ran from this place for good. Lucas was the same he would look back every now and then but I think that he was just able to accept what happened to his sister, that she wasn't coming back for him...
"Its safe for now." Anton came rushing back to us. He was sweating just like the rest of us. We needed to find some source of water soon and then food. We wont make it far without food and water.
"I see them! This way! We heard someone roughly shout, this was it for us as I saw a large group coming our way in the distance. There was too many of them for us to fight off and all live.
Growls and snarls starting coming from our chests, we were ready for this. Ready to fight and die for our freedom.
We were all ready to fight until we heard more footsteps running our way, running hard and fast with purpose.
We are well and truly screwed right now.
