Chapter 11. Tensions
The tension was high between us all in this cage. No one trusted any of the other kinds beyond their own.
And I'm not saying that we all hate each other there is just bad blood between our kinds. Each kind is both good and bad, there are good vampires as there are bad witches. It's the same with us wolves we are both good and bad.
Maybe it could be the same for the hunters... Just maybe.
I noticed that the hunters had been coming out and observing us today now that we are all sharing one big cage. The past few days they would look out, or even better they would come out and snicker around the cages like they knew something that we didn't.
Which I guess they do know a lot more then we do, more then we ever will if I am to be perfectly honest
I believe the reason that they continued to watch us was to make sure that we didn't start working together, they expected us to stay separated with the bad blood that runs between our kinds. But they needed to make sure...
But today, we had only been awake for a few short hours and they had come out seven times. SEVEN TIMES usually they don't even come out that many times over one whole day. They had been opening the windows up and looking out as well.
Them watching us sent even more shivers up my spine, this was the only thing I had been feeling lately and I was sick of all of the shivers that crawl up my spine. I just want to feel like a normal wolf going through normal dramas.
I mean I don't even know how old I am anymore, I know we were kidnapped when I was roughly 18, but who knows how many years we have been here for, it may have only been weeks that felt like a century.
Who knows any more.
The day was going along awkwardly, every time the hunters would come out we would stop what we were doing, which put a damper on our form of survival training. Jordan didn't want them seeing what we were capable of and we all agreed. It would put us all in danger, making us their number one targets if they knew what we were up too.
The others would watch us curiously, as we did them but no one dared to interact with each other, not with the threat of these hunters being able to use it against us, although if we did work together...
Things may be easier for us all if we could be able to work together. If we could work with each other, it would be a miracle.
I don't think that any of us could have been happier when they night finally rolled around. Jordan was still fuming that we didn't get a chance to train along with some of the other wolves. Well that's a lie, all of us were all fuming.
We needed today, it was our last chance to be able to learn all that we could to succeed and get out of this hellhole. When the night came so did the storm, the wind went straight threw us all chilling us to the bone. Deep black clouds hid the moon as the sky opened up and rained her misery down on us.
It was completely black out here, almost as dark as it was in the cages. The rain was pelting down on us, it hurt a little bit when drops would hit us.
But it gave us a chance to talk to the witches and the vampires. No torches could stay lit out here, and they couldn't spy on us without us seeing the light shining through the window.
This was the chance we needed to go and talk to the others. And it was the only chance that we would get.
But no one took it, not one soul went up to talk to the others. I wanted to go up there, we could help each other out or we could be the reason for the others downfall.
But I was willing to risk it. "Luce?" Lucas asked as I got up, Jordan, Conner and Bianca were talking and left us by ourselves. "What are you doing?" He asked getting up to follow me when I didn't respond.
I didn't know what I was doing but I couldn't just sit here, but Jordan had other plans. He was next to me in a flash, we were all growing stronger again, gaining back all of our heighten senses.
I could hear conversations that I wasn't apart of, I could hear the soft breathing of a sleeping witch across on the other side of the cage from me. I was almost able to see in this darkness, I could make out the outlines of everyone and if they were close enough I could see them, see there features just like the annoyed look in my brothers eyes. Both of them were escorting me and Lucas back to where they had left Bianca who had gotten Anton who I assume would be baby-sitting us right now.
"We told you two to stay." Jordan scolded us.
"I know." I sighed while Lucas just nodded. "I just can't sit still anymore." I admitted I couldn't sit still when tomorrow everything was changing for us all.
Everyone was restless even some of the witches and vampires. I saw one young witch looking over at me and Lucas as a vampire moved closer as well, I couldn't make him out but I knew he was watching the witch who was watching us.
Maybe they thought like me, maybe they would come over. But they wouldn't it was a rule in this cage only protect your own kind.
"I know but you need to rest, both of you." Bianca chimed in looking at both of us, before looking back to Jordan with a small smile on her face. There was definitely something going on between the two of them.
"She is right." Conner agreed before calling everyone over which was slightly difficult with the wind blowing our words off into the distance.
Everyone huddled together. "We have done all that we can, we only have to pray to the moon that she will guide us out of this hell into safety." Jordan began as everyone just nodded moving closer to each other to stay warm. Wolves may have higher body temperatures then any other creature on this earth, but when we get cold, we get cold.
"All we can do now is rest up for tomorrow, it is out of our hands now." He continued while I was looking over at the others. They were all huddled up just like us, giving everyone their last pep talks.
I still just wish we could work together giving us an edge over the hunters. If we could all band together we would be one hell of a force.
I didn't hear the end of whatever it was that we were talking about but everyone moved off into little groups, we had all become friends with each other, its hard not too. It was a sad thought to know that this was the last night on earth for some of these wolves.
Conner and Jordan came up on either side of me while Bianca took Lucas off, he gave me a small smile before leaving, he really was a nice wolf, a little goofy but he had made me laugh a few times over the past three days. I don't know how he did it.
"Little wolf." They both spoke at the same time as tears welled in my eyes, I knew what this was. "You have to be strong tomorrow." Conner spoke as he pulled me in, hugging me and pressing his face into my hair.
"I don't want to be strong without you." I cried a little.
"But you have to little wolf, it is the only way we can be strong if we know that you are out there alive and well." It was now Jordan's turn to hug me and I couldn't help but cry some more.
"Just know that we love you Lucinda, forever and always." Jordan stifled a cry while Conner pointed to my heart. "We will always be in there, like you will be in here." He pointed to his own heart and then to Jordan's before Jordan looked up to Bianca pushing us back to them.
"We just want you to live your life." He whispered in my ear. All I could do was nod, I didn't want to make promises that I couldn't keep.
We walked to where Bianca was waiting with Lucas and Anton. The four of them looked at us before Jordan spoke again. "You two need to look out for each other, stick together and help each other. You will be all that that you both have out there." But what about Anton I thought to myself, he was running with us. And then it hit me like a tone of bricks, he was there to sacrifice himself if something were to happen to the two of us, all of the older wolves running with us were there to make sure that us younger wolves got out.
"Run until you reach a pack, any pack they will take you in when they hear your stories, and hopefully when they find you, you will be able to let them the Alpha into your minds to show them the truth." Bianca took over from Jordan who was starting to choke up.
"Just trust in each other and protect each other you two are a family now and by the moons grace if we get out of here with you two we will be one big family." A ghost of a smile was on Jordan's lips.
"Now rest, Anton will stay with you." Conner spoke as he walked off with the other two, to do moon knows what.
"They are right you too need your rest." Anton looked down at us, his accent reigning strong in his words, I think that he was French. Neither of us could argue with him, we needed to have a lot of energy to get through the next how many days until we could reach safety.
"Luce." Lucas spoke as we walked to where we had been sleeping the past few nights. Luce was the nickname he gave me since I started calling him Luke. "I'm scared..." He admitted to me.
"I am too." My voice was soft as I bumped by shoulder with his as we sat on the ground.
"At least we have each other." He laughed before sighing as Anton watched us, making sure we didn't get up and do something that we shouldn't.
At least we have each other is right, I just hope we can have more then just the two of us. We fell into a silence as Anton told us to sleep once more.
I reluctantly fell asleep waiting for my brothers to come to hug me one more time.
