Twenty-four years ago. . .

Philza giggled, shoving one of his friends off of him as he held a book close. His blue eyes sparkled with mischief as his other two friends laughed too. “What are you boys doing?” The three looked up to see a very angry librarian, wings fluttering in annoyance as their eyes met. “Oh, Philza Minecraft? What are you doing here again? Didn’t I throw you out last time, young man?” Phil gulped, his grip on the book in his arms tightening. She raised a brow, looking at the book he held in his hands. She seemed to soften at the sight of what book he held, her angry demeter slowly dissipating. “Oh, I see.” She held a hand out for the book to be placed in her pale palm. Phil did so, sighing in defeat. “You know your father doesn’t want you reading his book, Philza.” She mutters, the two boys on either side of him shifting. It was unusual for Mrs. Hawk to act like this.

“I-I know.” He speaks finally. Her orange eyes looked over to him, a small smile on her face. “I was just curious is all.”

“Curiosity killed the bird, have you ever heard that expression young man?” Phil gazed down to the ground, hands balling. She sighed, looking at the two twins behind him, and shooed them away. They ran as soon as the opportunity was handed to them, gliding down to the first floor and booking it. Philza couldn’t blame them, Mrs. Hawk was terrifying. “This is the third time you’ve tried to smuggle this book out of this library.” She speaks, setting the book down on a nearby shelf. “You need to stop, your father doesn’t want you knowing what is in this boo until your old enough to understand, until-”

“Until I’m chief, I know.” A long pause filled the room. “I don’t want to wait that long though, I want to know now. I want to know the truth, not the made-up story we learn in school, Mrs. Hawks.” She paused, looking over towards him after a few seconds. She pursed her lips, looking back towards the book.

“I know it’s hard, Philza. But your father knows best.” She says, walking away after that. “Please, wait until your father hands you that book.” Phil looked at the book, looking back to the female walking away.

“I will.” The librarian knew better though, she knew that that book was in his arms as he left the library, but she ignored that fact, going back to checking books back into the library.

Present, One Day Later. . .

Phil looked over towards Grian when the flashback dissipated. They had been walking for a long time now, most of the walk being quiet, probably because of the pending doom they all would be facing soon, and just walked following the black-winged avian quietly. “What did you mean, first savior?” Technoblade asked, Wilbur, looking over in curiosity as well. Philza sighed, dragging his eyes away from Grian and looking over to his two sons.

“The first savior, he killed the first dictator, or the first person to threaten to obliterate our universe.” Phil explained. “He wasn’t considered an avian, just a bird hybrid. The goddess of death made us avians in the image of the first savior.”

“But, why didn’t you mention that in the first explanation?” Philza paused.

“What explanation?” He asked. Techno blinked.

“The one where you explained the crystals existence, the one where you said the gods intervene? The one that explained the reason why avians were made?” Wilbur says, hoping to jog his father's memory. The king hummed, the memory filling his head once again.

“Because, I never thought I’d need to explain further, or in more detail then. The first savior should be dead, not leading us to the crystals.” Techno and Wilbur looked at one another. “I don’t know how Grian is alive, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the gods.”

Sapnap hated how Quackity and Karl walked, holding hands and murmuring to one another in front of him. He hated how they looked fine without him, how they seemed content just being the two of them. He had no room to say anything though, he knew that. He had abandoned them, and hadn't talked to either of them since their fight on the ship. He didn’t even come to make sure Quackity was ok when he had woken up from his coma that gave him an ability he knew the avian didn’t want. But now, in the tunnel leading up to the crystals, he still didn’t move to walk with them, didn’t reach out to grab either of their hands, even avoided eye contact when they looked over to him with their own pleading eyes.

Now, he knew he couldn’t be with them. His parents needed an heir, and he had to be that heir. Even if it means giving up his relationship. “We’re here.” Grian’s voice echoed as they walked into the room, it’s beauty making Sapnap’s eyes sparkle. “We’ll have the archer’s at the top, and have the others hide among the rocks until they get here. The avian explained, pointing to the many boulders that filled the area, and the obvious ledge surrounding the cave would be a perfect advantage point. Just like that, they got to work, but Sapnap couldn’t help but let his eyes drift to Karl and Quackity, the avian placing a loving kiss on the short male’s forehead. Sapnap’s fists tightened at the sight.

He walked over, trying to keep a calm expression as the two looked over towards him with a kind of hope filling their eyes. Sap felt horrible he’d be the one snuffing that blazing hope out. Once Sapnap stood in front of them, he pulled his ring off, giving it over to Quackity who silently took the circular object. “I’m sorry, but I have to choose my kingdom.” It seemed they had already come to terms with that being one of the blaze hybrids' choices, though their eyes dimmed at his words.

“You’ll be a great ruler, Sappy.” Karl spoke, looking over towards Quackity as gave a half-hearted smile before pressing a kiss to the avian’s cheek. “Stay safe.” Sapnap sat there, watching as the others separated and left to their respective areas. It hurt, but he knew it was for the best. He had to remember that.

Later That Night. . .

Tommy walked next to his brother, sword sheathed on his waist, and armor covering his body. The foggy memories only grew in numbers, confusing him on where he and Dream stood, but even so, he couldn’t bring himself to depart from his older brother yet. He knew Dream cared about him, he had to. Callahan walked next to the other, shooting the teen concerned looks when he noticed the prince’s odd behavior. He didn’t say anything though, He may be good company for a boy, but he knew that might be crossing boundaries the avian prince didn’t want him crossing. Walking down the tunnel, Tommy was scared at first, wings fluffing up as he looked around. Dream placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, and even if he was wearing his mask he knew the other was smiling as well. Tommy smiled back, blue eyes looking back to the light they were nearing.

“We’re almost there.” Dream said, rolling up the map he had in his hands, taking his other hand off of his shoulder after a reassuring squeeze. Tommy let out a shaky sigh, he knew what these crystals meant to his older brother, he just didn’t know what the green hooded man planned to do with them. Walking into the actual room made the teens' eyes sparkle, his eyes only growing bright. George looked over towards him, smiling at the prince’s reaction.

“It really is pretty, huh?” George asked, one of his hands resting on the hilt of his sword. Tommy looked over, smiling brightly at the other, wings on his back fluttering in excitement.

“It’s gorgeous.” Tommy confirms, making even Dream smile. Tommy looked forwards, seeing the crystals his brother desired floating above two stone stands, hovering and twirling like they were begging to be noticed.

“There they are.” Dream breathes out, making the blond next to him look over. He was staring ahead at them, yet still unmoving. Tommy smiled, George from behind stepping closer as well. After balling his fists, Dream finally made his way towards the crystals, almost hesitantly as he did so. It confused Tommy and Geroge, this was something he had wanted for a long time, and now he acted almost scared to go near them.

Finally, he stood in front of them, hesitantly reaching out. But before anyone could react an arrow from above came wheezing past Dreams head, making his outstretched hand pause. Tommy grew pale, his eyes making their way above to see many archers staring back, almost daring the young prince to do something. Without thinking he unsheathed his sword, many others around him doing the same, his eyes turning into slits as he zeroed in on the archers.

Before he could figure out how to get up there though, others from around the room showed themselves, all looking angry. Tommy’s grip on his sword tightened, eyes looking over to the still silent Dream, who now was pulling his own sword out. Before the avian could even wrap his head around what was happening, a battle broke out between the two sides.
