Part 11

There was a constant buzz of chatter as a group of four walked through the streets of Konoha. Some comments were loud enough for the group to hear and other comments were hushed. This was truly an uncommon phenomenon to witness.

Konoha's number one knucklehead was quietly walking in the same group with his best friend and rival, and for once they weren't arguing or fighting. They were not running straight to the Hokage's office and were not rushing off to their next mission. This was indeed out of character for both of them.

A lot of attention was focused on the pair of Hyuga princesses walking between the two of them. Their faces mirrored but their demeanor was very different from each other. Hinata was her usual shy and modest self, but her sister, walked confidently, her posture alone demanded the attention of others.  Her attire was not that outlandish, however, given that they knew Hinata and how self-conscious she was about her attire and how the Hyuuga's tended to always stick to more traditional garments, Hikari's outfit was truly a sight to behold. Additionally, she had her hair in a ponytail, which also added to the unseen aspect of the Hyuga as they usually leave their hair loose or loosely tied down, they always seemed to pride themselves in their uniformity or monotony as Hikari would describe it. She did not seem bothered by the stares she was getting, however, the Uchiha next to her sent a chilling glare to any male whose eyes lingered longer than needed on the girl next to him.

Even though he was mildly irritated by the amorous stares of the Konoha men, it was short-lived when he adjusted Hikari's hair to hang in front of her shoulder, they heard gasps as they passed the citizens of Konoha, which left Sasuke smirking instead of glaring.

Naruto was confused at the gasps, having thought that everyone would have heard the news of the twin Hyuga princesses by yesterday, after all, gossip spreads almost faster than the Great Yellow Flash in Konoha. After a while, he realized that the gasping only happened once they actually passed the people. He glanced at Sasuke for some clarity, but then a symbol on Hikari's clothes caught his gaze. Sasuke and Hikari were wearing matching symbols...the Uchiha symbol. Naruto stifled a gasp of his own as his eyebrows shot up almost past his hairline. He knew he teased them about the nature of their relationship, but given that they now were wearing Sasuke's clan symbol, he felt like he was merely stating an obvious fact that everyone but he knew.

The pair knew what they were doing, it could be seen by Sasuke's smirk and Hikari's grin. They were purposefully showing Konoha the Uchiha's apparent claim to the ex-Hyuga heiress. It was very blunt and undeniably clear what their intentions were, they were making an announcement but also provoking whoever dared to disagree with them.

Naruto, motioned to Hinata to look at the pair, he saw her neck straighten upon seeing their matching symbols but giggled at the pair and their mischief.

"B-Back it again, O-Onee-sama?" Hinata giggled,

"Naturally," Hikari replied smiling, Sasuke watched the twins laugh at the nostalgia that they were experiencing as he was doing something that he used to older used to do with the older twin when they were far more innocent and experiencing simpler times.  He looked over to Naruto and saw the clear confusion on his face. Sasuke did not remember Hikari and Naruto ever actually interacting, probably also for the same reason as most of their classmates and friends of Konoha at the time, their parents forbid them to, because of the nine tails.

"I used to make Hikari wear my clan symbol when we were kids," Sasuke explained to his friend,

"Oh? Why?" Naruto asked,

"Because it used to annoy her clan elders and father," Sasuke said smirking, Naruto smiled and shook his head at Sasuke, he almost forgot how Sasuke used to purposely stir the pot just because he found it amusing.

"Well, I would not say that you 'made' me do it, Sasuke. I feel like I chose to wear it with pride," Hikari corrected him, a light blush made its way to the Uchiha's cheeks as he diverted his gaze, her words and their implications flustering him slightly. Once again, he was reminded of how differently Hikari had perceived the world from a young age.

Hikari laughed at the Uchiha's bashfulness,

"Also, I believe that Sasuke's parents quite enjoyed seeing me walk around with their clan symbol on my back," she said reminiscing of their smiles and knowing nods whenever she used to adorn their symbol,

"I can't believe how I did not realize the weight of it at the time, my father almost never stopped smirking whenever you were wearing our clan symbol," Sasuke said, his blush deepening as he put his hand to his face,

"D-Do not feel too bad S-Sasuke-san, you were a child, you were innocently t-teasing," Hinata tried to comfort him,

"Hm, can't say the same about it now though," Naruto said teasingly as he lifted an eyebrow, Hikari laughed at this,

"Definitely not, " she agreed, they all looked at Sasuke for a reaction, walked looking forward smirking,

"Completely not," he agreed with them all and put an arm over Hikari's shoulders, careful to not obscure anyone's view from his clan symbol,  causing a light blush to litter the twins' cheeks, Hinata smiled as she lifted her hand in front her mouth noticing Hikari's blush,

"This time, it is exactly what it looks like," he said and looked at Hikari for any disagreement from her end,

"I adorned your clan symbol back then accepting what it implied, my stance on it has not changed since," she confirmed as she smiled at Sasuke, who blushed at her words.

Naruto watched the two's back and forth, he could tell in their own odd way, they were flirting. He looked at his friend, having never seen this side of him before. Naruto could not help but smile, this was so much more than he had ever hoped for his friend. Knowing that Sasuke would struggle to have the capacity to love someone romantically, he had thought that he would only see his out of character behaviour once the Uchiha had children. He prayed a silent of thanks to whichever deity ordained for their paths to intertwine.

They continued their walk until Hikari started feeling a bit tired, not that she had admitted it, but Sasuke could tell from her shaking legs and the sweat on her brow. He then said that he was suddenly hungry and the group dipped into Ichiraku ramen.
