Chapter Sixteen
~Enji's POV~
I slammed my hands atop the ticket counter at the airport as I was overcome with rage, "which one of you imbeciles gave an underaged girl a plane ticket?!"
There were dozens of hushed voices sounding behind me. My outburst had garnered quite a bit of attention. I could see a few people pulling out their phones and cameras to record my moment of unbridled rage but I tuned them out. I didn't give a damn about my image right now, I needed to find Enya.
"Sh-she said she was flying with you." The woman behind the counter burst into tears.
It took every ounce of willpower I had not to rip the computer off her desk and hurl it across the airport. "You didn't think to check that a minor had an adult with her before giving her a ticket to who the hell knows where?!" I snarled.
The woman began sobbing. My last shred of patience dissolved and I let out a roar of rage causing fire to flare around me startling everyone nearby.
"WHERE THE HELL DID SHE GO?!" I demanded.
One of the other employees scurried over and took over as the sobbing woman slumped to the floor. She typed a few things into the keyboard on the desk and waited a moment. "The last flight under your account was to California."
"SHE LEFT THE COUNTRY!" I exploded causing fire to flare up around me once more.
Several people backed away.
"I-I can get you a ticket to the same airport she flew in to...the plane leaves in ten minutes." The girl behind the counter squeaked.
I held my hand out for the ticket and she hurriedly clicked a few buttons before one of the machines on her desk spit out a ticket. She shakily placed it in my hand and I stormed off. It had been a week since Enya had run away. I'd tried to rush after her right away but Rei went into labor. Once things had calmed a bit, I was finally able to go after her. I couldn't help but feel resentment toward Rei, she'd helped Enya in her escape and left me completely in the dark. I'd never forgive her if I lost my little sister.
It had already been a week, was she alright? Did she find somewhere safe to stay? Was she eating properly? A million horrible scenarios kept spiraling through my mind of all the terrible things that could have befallen my sweet little sister in a foreign country. Her husband to be, the creepy mafioso, was strangely calm after having been left at the altar. He was playing the role of concerned fiancé pretty well and had all the media fooled. This time I didn't give a damn who he threatened, I was getting my sister back and keeping her as far away from him as humanly possible.
TSA didn't even bother with me and dove out of my way as I headed for the gates. I reached my gate and thrust my ticket at the guy behind the small desk outside the doors to the loading dock. He accepted it and waved me through with wide eyes. I angrily dropped into the first available seat I saw on the plane and folded my arms across my chest settling in for the long flight.
I spent the entire flight thinking up more horrible scenarios of terrible things that could have befallen Enya. Each one was more gruesome and horrific than the last and by the time the plane began its descent, I was wracked with fear and panic.
I exited the airport in California twelve hours later wondering where Enya might have gone. It had been an entire week since then, who knew how far she could have gotten. Fearing my baby sister was lost to me forever, I clenched my fists at my sides and struggled to maintain my composure.
As I was heading toward a sea of taxis, I spotted a poster with the blonde menace's face on it and froze in place. If that moron was here, that was probably the first place she went. I ran to the nearest taxi and wrenched the door open.
I pointed at the poster with the annoying blonde, "I need to get to where he is, now!"
The cab driver looked to the poster; it was for some university the idiot was to be giving a lecture for. He nodded and waited for me to buckle my seatbelt before pulling away from the airport. Fifteen minutes later and the car came to a stop outside of university campus. Hurriedly I extended my credit card to him to pay the fare. It seemed to take him forever to get me my receipt and give me my card back. Once that was over with, I was out the door and storming toward the main building of the college campus. It was pretty early in the morning, there were a few students rushing to their classes and a few others sipping coffee on benches.
Hushed whispers followed me as I trudged across campus trying to figure out where the annoying blonde was. There were posters with his stupid face up all over campus. I felt my stomach drop as I realized the date of the lecture wasn't for another week and nearly set one of the flyers ablaze. As I let out a loud roar of rage and crumpled up one of the posters, a young man with unruly light honey brown hair and pale blue eyes wearing a lab coat over his red hooded sweatshirt and grungy jeans approached me curiously.
"Everything alright?" He asked warily as he noticed the now smoldering flyer in my hand.
"I need to find this moron." I growled.
"All Might?" He inquired, his tone sounding as if he knew him.
"Yes, do you know where he is?" I asked gruffly.
He took out his phone and hurriedly sent off a text. There was a brief pause before it buzzed. He glanced down at the screen and inclined a brow at the response, "Currently, at home, getting ready to go to Disneyland."
Did that mean Enya was with him? "How far away is that?" I demanded.
"Twenty-five minutes if traffic is kind." The man shrugged, "are you a friend of All Might's?"
"Absolutely not." I glowered at him.
"I take it you're not a fan either...why are you looking for him?" He asked with a frown.
"It doesn't concern you." I snapped.
"That's a shame, if it did concern me, I could have given you a ride." He turned to walk away.
I glanced back the way I had come; the taxi was gone. Begrudgingly I called after him before he could get very far, "fine." In my periphery I noticed a black sedan with tinted windows parked on a nearby street. Though I couldn't see through the tinted windows I felt like I was being watched.
He paused and extended a hand to me in greeting, "David Shield, and you are?"
"Endeavor." I indicated my hero costume as if it were obvious.
"Nice to meet you, so why are you looking for All Might?" He asked as he led me toward the campus parking lot.
"My kid sister is missing..." I began cautiously, "he may have information regarding her whereabouts."
He paused a moment and nearly stumbled but managed to catch himself and play it off cool. "I'm sorry to hear that...I hope we can get you some answers." His voice shifted a little, suspiciously. Did he know something?
"I appreciate it." I said tensely as I followed him to a bright red sports car. He was texting again as he walked.
"If we hurry, we can catch him before he leaves." David commented as he jumped into the driver's seat.
I nodded but gave him no other reply as I got into the passenger's seat. I had a feeling he and All Might were communicating and I was getting a strange suspicious vibe. Something was going on; he was hiding something from me. Did he know about Enya?
He drove alarmingly fast while managing to not break any traffic laws and in a few minutes the car came to a stop outside of a nice apartment building in the city. We parked at a small parking lot across the street before David led me to the nice apartment building. As we were stepping inside the building, I thought I saw a black sedan with tinted windows drive past slowly. When I turned to look over my shoulder, it was gone.
We made it to the tenth floor and David reached out to knock politely on one of the doors. I reached past him and pounded on it angrily. A few other doors in the hall opened up and curious heads poked out and looked around to see what the commotion was about. I thought I heard a noise from within the apartment as if someone had dropped something, before I faintly heard the sound of a door slamming shut in the distance. Though it was only a few moments it felt like an eternity until the door finally opened.
The annoying blonde hero I'd grown to despise over the years due to Enya's obsession, answered the door with a nervous smile, "Endeavor, what a pleasant surprise."
"It's Endeavor!" I snarled reflexively before realizing he hadn't mispronounced my name like usual.
"...that's what he said." David looked to me warily.
"How about we talk insi-." All Might began but cut off as I stepped inside shoving past him. I noticed two bowls atop the counter and a box of cereal that appeared to have been what was dropped and had spilled over the counter. David stepped inside and closed the door behind him looking somewhat uncomfortable.
I threw an accusing glare at the idiot, "you eat two bowls of cereal at once?"
His blue eyes flicked to a closed door before returning to me, "they're just too small but mixing bowls are far too big." He said somewhat awkwardly. He was lying and was absolutely horrible at it.
"Have you seen Enya?" I asked him with a glare.
"Yes."
"Don't lie to me!" I snarled before realizing he'd said yes, "you have?! When?! Is she alright?! Where is she?!"
All Might hesitated, his gaze flicked back to the closed door again. He looked momentarily conflicted, "she's safe, now." I didn't like his tone, there was an implication behind it.
"Where is she?"
All Might hesitated again, his lips pulling into a slight frown, "I'm sorry, I can't help you."
I clenched my fists and lunged at him grabbing him by the front of his shirt, "what the hell does that mean?!"
"Ah! Let's all just calm down a bit." David attempted to step in.
All Might removed my hand from his shirt with zero effort. "It means, unfortunately, I cannot offer you any assistance in finding Enya."
"She's here, isn't she?" I turned toward the closed door he'd been looking at and as my gaze flicked in that direction, I spotted a framed photo sitting atop a bookshelf, it was a photo of us all at the amusement park years ago. "Why the hell do you have a picture of my kid sister in your home?" I snarled.
"It was a fun day filled with great memories." He said as if it were obvious.
I ran for the closed door the idiot had been looking at and threw it open. "Enya?!" Desperately I called her name. The door opened into a master bedroom. There were two other doors along the left wall one was open and led to a bathroom, the other was cracked. I reached for the cracked door and a strong hand clamped down on my shoulder, halting me.
"And what is it you plan to do with her, when you find her?" All Might asked, his tone had shifted, there were no more smiles and it seemed his patience and politeness were waning. There was definitely an implication behind his words this time.
"What the hell do you think I plan to do with her? She's my sister and she should be home with her family." I turned on him with a snarl.
"And can you protect her from her abusers or do you plan to turn her over to them, again?" All Might asked and I felt as if someone had punched me in the gut.
"Don't talk about things you don't understand." I growled, enraged.
His expression darkened and for a split second I felt afraid, "I understand I rescued a teenage girl in a wedding dress after she'd run away from a forced marriage who then begged me not to send her back home and was convinced, she'd die if she went back. So, believe me, when I tell you that she is safe, and get out." There was zero trace of his usual stupid smile on his face.
