Chapter Fifteen

~All Might's POV~

I had trouble falling asleep on my much too small sofa as my mind conjured up the worst possible scenarios that Enya could have faced, while I'd been here in the US. I'd always thought her obsessive brother would take care of her, but that didn't seem to be the case. Though the case was closed on an official capacity, I knew there was more to it. Those men clearly worked for someone and the fact that the bodies had been of people Enya knew and she was in their possession was no mere coincidence, but with signed confessions admitting they acted on their own and now dead perpetrators, the case would be sealed away.

There was a noise in the hall, pulling me from my racing thoughts. I got up and headed to the door. It sounded like someone had dropped something in the hall and was scrambling to pick it up. I opened the door and spotted one of my neighbors, Jaclyn, a woman in her forties with wild auburn curls and warm green eyes struggling with her groceries, she was a nurse and worked some of the craziest hours. I helped her pick up her things.

"Thanks, All Might." She smiled as I managed to gather her fallen groceries and help her get them into her apartment, across the hall from mine. I spotted a photo on the wall of her and her daughter, Rachel, who'd recently left for university before thinking of Enya. As adorable as she had looked drowning in my clothes, I had a feeling she'd feel comfortable in clothes that fit her a little better.

"Anytime...uh...could I ask you for a weird favor?" I asked nervously.

She turned to me curiously as she set the rest of her groceries on the counter, "we've been neighbors for years, you've never asked anything of me and have helped me out a lot, I'd say you can ask for several." She chuckled, "what do you need?"

"I've got a teenage girl staying with me for a bit but I'm afraid I don't have any clothes that fit her, you don't happen to have anything of Rachel's she could borrow or that she was planning on getting rid of?"

She looked at me for a long moment, "you know...if that had come from anyone else, I'd be very concerned." She laughed before heading to Rachel's old bedroom. She returned with a few garments, "I take it this girl is in some kind of trouble?" She asked with a frown.

"Unfortunately." I felt my heart tighten in my chest.

"Well, if it's the sort of trouble that keeps her from being able to go out and find suitable clothing for herself, have her write down her sizes for me and I can pick her up some proper clothes and undergarments later today. I was going to meet up with Rach and take her shopping anyway." She smiled.

"That would be most appreciated, thanks Jaclyn." I accepted the bundle of clothes she gave me.

"Anytime." She smiled.

I took my leave, feeling a little better about harboring a missing teenage girl in my home as I had at least one of the items on my list of things to be concerned about checked off. I set the bundle of clothes on the counter next to Enya's bag and chanced a glance at the open door of my bedroom. Enya was sound asleep snuggling a bear plush wearing a costume that looked very much like mine from a few years ago. Thinking of all the horrible things she'd endured in my absence made me feel sick with guilt. What if I'd never left? Could I have saved her sooner?

Deciding not to dwell on things I couldn't change now, I retreated back to the sofa and tried to get comfortable. Not long after I'd managed to find a spot that was comfortable enough, I thought I might be able to sleep, I heard Enya cry out from the master bedroom and nearly fell off the couch.

I bolted for my bedroom to see her tossing and turning in her sleep. My heart fell, it hurt to see her in such distress. I crossed the room and sat on the bed beside her before gently shaking her. "Enya, wake up."

Her deep blue eyes fluttered open, wild with terror and panic before she looked up at me and recognition filled her gaze. She relaxed and an endearing blush spread across her cheeks. "...sorry..."

"Nothing for you to apologize for." I offered her a smile and smoothed her hair back in an attempt to comfort her as she looked like she might cry again. "What were you dreaming about?"

"Mei." She sniffled.

I thought of the dead teen I'd seen, she looked to be a little older than Enya, "you two were really close?"

Enya nodded, "she was my best friend...she and Masaru helped me run away...it's my fault they-."

"Enya, no, you can't put something like that on yourself." I felt my heart break as I saw the heart wrenching look of guilt and agony on her face, "it's not your fault." No wonder she was having nightmares if she was trying to blame herself for something like that.

"They died because of me." She cried.

While that was possibly true, it wasn't her fault, she was an innocent in all of this and I couldn't bear to see her in such a state. I pulled her into my arms, "they died because of villains, not because of you. You just happened to be the target of those villains and they got caught in the crossfire trying to protect you. The fault still lies on the villains who did this, not on you." I rocked her in my arms trying to console her, until she fell back asleep.

Before I knew it, my exhaustion from my very long day caught up with me and I found myself dozing off. I heard a voice in the back of my mind telling me I had to get up, put Enya back to bed and go to the living room as that was the proper thing to do. I was too tired to listen to the voice of reason and ended up falling asleep with Enya cradled in my arms.

...

I woke, some time later, and nearly jumped as I realized I'd fallen asleep on my bed with Enya in my arms. She was still snuggled up against me, gripping the front of my shirt with one hand while the other held the plush bear close. This was definitely not good, she'd almost been forced to become a child bride, days ago and here she was now in the arms of a strange adult man. I groaned inwardly, I needed to leave before she woke and ended up even more traumatized. As this thought crossed my mind, her deep blue eyes fluttered open.

Her cheeks reddened, but rather than a look of terror, that I'd expected to see at her finding a strange man holding her in his arms, she looked calm and comforted. A small sweet smile spread across her lips and she threw her arms around me and hugged me. I smiled, glad I hadn't traumatized her, and hugged her back.

I glanced aver at the alarm clock on my nightstand and was surprised to see I'd somehow managed to sleep past noon. Enya's tummy let out the teeniest of grumbles seeming to startle her in the process as she jumped, wrapped her arms around her belly and blushed profusely.

"Ah...how about some breakfast," I glanced at the clock again, "or lunch?"

She nodded.

"Alright." I shifted her in my arms before setting her down on the bed and got up to find something for lunch. As I got to the kitchen, I spotted the clothes Jaclyn had given me and took them to Enya. "Here...my neighbor had some clothes that might fit you better, I pointed over to a notepad sitting on my nightstand, "if you write down your sizes she said she'd go get you some things when she's out today."

Enya blushed, "ah, she doesn't have to go through the trouble-."

"It's alright, she said she was going out anyway, so don't worry. Besides, as cute as this is." I motioned to her drowning in my clothes, "I think it's a bit of a tripping hazard.

Her face turned an unhealthy shade of scarlet and I panicked for a moment thinking something was wrong before she buried her face behind her hair and I realized she was just embarrassed. I chuckled softly, ruffled her hair and set the clothes Jaclyn had given me on the bed before taking my leave to find suitable lunch.

I looked through my very sad refrigerator with a sigh. Being a hero, I had hectic hours, I wasn't much of a cook and usually the only thing open when I got home were pizza places. Realizing I had no idea what food she even liked I decided to play it safe and order pizza as most people liked pizza and they knew me and would get here the quickest. As I finished placing the order, Enya stepped out of my room in a pair of powder blue gym shorts and a long sleeve white shirt with a logo for some charity organization Rachel must have volunteered at on it. The clothes were a little big, but fit her much better than mine had.

She set a folded-up piece of paper on the counter and tried to place a handful of cash down but I stopped her, "ah, that's not necessary."

She hesitated, "but-."

"You're my guest, I'll take care of it." I reassured her. Reluctantly, she put the cash in her backpack. There was a knock at the door, I watched in awe as Enya jumped and ran to hide in my bedroom. "Ah...you don't need to hide..." I groaned, that looked even more suspicious.

I opened the door and Jaclyn smiled back at me, she glanced curiously behind me, "is she hiding?"

I nodded.

"I should have thought about that before knocking so loudly." Jaclyn winced, "sorry."

"No, it's alright." I grabbed the paper Enya had written her sizes on and handed it and my credit card to Jaclyn.

"Does she have any belongings with her?" Jaclyn asked curiously.

"Just the clothes she was wearing when I found her and a backpack with a few personal belongings."

"Poor thing." Jaclyn frowned. "We'll be sure to get her everything she needs. Just leave it to us." She offered me a smile. "Maybe she'll be a little less shy when I come back."

I smiled, "I hope so." Being a nurse and having raised a daughter of her own, I had a feeling Jaclyn would be able to help make Enya feel at ease and possibly be someone for her to feel safe to confide in. I was worried something might have happened with the man her parents had tried to force her to marry. I quickly directled my thoughts elsewhere to keep from getting angry, I had to stay calm and keep Enya calm, if I let my mind wander to all the horrible possibilities, I wouldn't remain calm and I was too afraid to ask her if anything had happened.

Jaclyn seemed to notice my internal war and reached out and gave my shoulder a squeeze, "hey, I already know she's under much better care than wherever she came from, there's no safer place for her to be than right here with you."

"Thanks." I offered her a smile, I just wish I'd known sooner and could have saved her before it got to this.

Jaclyn left and I shut the door. I headed into my room in search of Enya and felt a moment of panic take over me as I didn't see her right away. I calmed once I realized she was hiding under my bed and knelt on the ground next to my bed before bending down to peer underneath it.

"You okay?" I asked worried.

"I was afraid it was someone coming to take me away." She admitted with a blush.

"Oh." My heart clenched in my chest as I took note of the residual fear in her deep blue eyes, "that's not something you need to worry about." I reassured her.

The flush of color across her cheeks began to spread.

"You going to come out?" I asked worriedly.

She buried her face in her hands, "I'm stuck."

I held back a laugh as I realized she'd somehow managed to get the back of her shirt caught on one of the support features that kept the bed frame in place. I reached under the bed and untangled her so she could crawl out. "Next time, you may want to try the closet, probably easier to hide in and more fun."

"What makes it more fun?" She asked me curiously as she looked to my closet door.

"Go see." I chuckled.

She inched over to my walk-in closet and hesitantly opened the door. It was too dark for her to see anything and I chuckled softly and turned on the light illuminating my closet which was filled with gifts from fans.

She let out a cute squeal of delight as she stepped into the closet and immediately fell into a neat pile of plushies. I laughed as she disappeared under the pile of plushies completely hidden from view. "See, much better hiding spot and more fun."

She resurfaced with a giggle, "why do you have so many?"

"Gifts from fans...it feels rude to throw them out." I admitted as I offered her a hand to help her up.

There was another knock at the door. Enya froze up.

"That's probably our pizza, but you can stay here and hide while I make sure the coast is clear." I suggested.

She nodded and vanished in the pile of plushies once more all trace of fun and laughter gone.

I closed the door behind me but left the light on for her before going to answer the door. It was my usual pizza delivery driver. The first time he'd delivered me a pizza he'd nearly fainted, he was a big fan, since then he'd managed to keep his cool in my presence.

"Hey, All Might, everything alright? You don't usually order pizzas at this hour and it's not your usual order." He noted seeming genuinely concerned.

"Ah. Yeah. I've got a friend in from out of town. Thanks." I smiled as I accepted the boxes from him and handed him the money to cover the pizza and a little extra for a tip.

He smiled, "thanks, All Might!" He made it about five steps before having his fanboy meltdown.

I slowly closed the door and headed back inside. I set the boxes on the counter and smiled as I saw Enya peek her head out of the closet door. "All clear." I assured her.

She smiled and scampered out of my room, joining me in the kitchen. Her eyes grew wide as she looked to the boxes I'd set on the counter, "did you order one of everything?" She asked in awe.

I almost had. "Uh...no, I just wanted to get a variety, I wasn't sure what you liked."

"Thanks, Toshinori." Her thin arms encircled me.

I smiled and hugged her back. "You're welcome." We headed into the living room with our feast and I was surprised to see Enya looking curiously at the pizza. "Have you had pizza before?" She grew up wealthy perhaps pizza was too much a peasant dish for the Todoroki family?

She shook her head. Hesitantly she picked up a piece of the veggie lovers pizza and nibbled at it. Her face lit up and she let out a cute 'yum' sound.

I chuckled as I watched her nibble at some of the other pieces seeming more impressed and delighted with each thing she tried. Her favorite seemed to be the apple dessert pizza as she went back for a second piece and looked as if she were going to go for a third and risk a tummy ache. After lunch, she offered to put everything away, though I refused and told her to relax as I didn't want her looking in my fridge, realizing it was empty and starting to worry about anything else.

After getting the leftover pizza put away, I struggled to find something to watch that wouldn't be triggering or traumatic. Soon I realized TV was not the answer and found a movie to watch instead. I looked to Enya to make sure she wasn't upset that I'd picked a childish movie. She smiled and curled up beside me on the couch, not seeming to mind that I'd selected a childish movie.

I tried to think of a friend I'd made who'd be able to help me protect Enya's identity and find a way to let her stay here through the proper channels without her abusers finding out. Halfway through the movie there was a soft knock on the door. Enya jumped in terror and looked to me with big deep blue eyes.

"It's alright." I reassured her before getting to my feet. She tensed as I got up and I draped the throw blanket from the back of the sofa over her so she could hide if she wanted to.

She burrowed under the blanket as I went to answer the door. Jaclyn had returned from her shopping trip and extended a handful of bags and my card to me. "Sorry, I tried to knock quieter." She peered around me, "still hiding?"

I nodded.

"That's alright. I hope everything is to her liking, Rachel had a blast picking things out for her." Jaclyn smiled, "let me know if you need anything else."

"Thanks, Jaclyn, you've been a big help." I thanked her before retreating into my apartment.

Enya poked her head out from under the blanket once I closed the door. I offered her a reassuring smile as I set the bags on the counter next to her backpack. She relaxed after a moment and mirrored my smile with one of her own.
