Chapter Eighteen

~Enya's POV~

"Enya!" Mei's voice sounded in the darkness.

"Mei?" I cried as I desperately tried to peer through the blackness to find her.

There was a faint light in the darkness, and I screamed as I found myself back in the warehouse. Mei appeared before me, blood streaming from a gaping wound in her neck. Her skin was sallow and corpse like and looked to be decaying at a rapid rate.

"You did this to me." Mei staggered toward me blood gushing from the wound, splashing to the gritty floor at her feet.

I fell to my knees and choked on a sob, "I'm sorry."

"I wish I'd never met you." Mei reached a blood and grime covered hand toward me.

"I'm so sorry Mei." I sobbed.

"You and your family are a plague upon this earth." Mei's bloody hands encircled my neck. This wasn't my Mei, she'd never speak like this or hurt me, she loved me. Her grip on my neck tightened cutting off my oxygen supply. I tried to pull her hands off of me but she was immovable.

"ENYA!" All Might's voice sounded all around me and I felt strong hands grip me by the arms. "ENYA! Wake up!"

I woke with a cry to All Might shaking me and feeling as if I'd just been trapped underwater without oxygen for an extended period of time. I took in big gulping breaths, filling my lungs with sweet oxygen. All Might was leaning over me looking worried as tears welled in my eyes.

"You're alright." He rocked me in his arms. "I got you."

My neck twinged with pain and I winced and placed a hand to my neck, it was tender to the touch. I let out a soft whimper of pain.

"Enya?" All Might looked to my neck and his eyes grew wide.

"W-what is it?" I asked, too afraid to know the answer.

"What did this?" He asked in awe, "it wasn't here when you went to sleep." He gently brushed a finger over the sensitive skin on my neck and I winced.

Was it more than just a dream? I wriggled out of his hold and ran to the bathroom. I flipped on the lights and looked in the mirror. A scream escaped me as I spotted two deep purple handprints around my neck where the imposter Mei had strangled me.

All Might appeared behind me and caught me as my knees gave out, "Enya?"

Fear gripped me, "s-someone attacked me in my dream."

"What?" All Might looked worried. He gently set me on my feet, "stay here, I'll check the building."

I shook my head frantically, not wanting to be left alone. What if it had just been a trap to get me alone? I had a sick feeling in my gut of who may be responsible and I was overcome with a sense of dread and hopelessness, "p-please don't leave me alone." I piped up feebly.

All Might gently pat me on the head, "would be you be alright waiting at Jaclyn's while I check the building?"

I nodded. I hadn't officially met her but she'd been nice enough to buy me clothes and toiletries and other girly necessities that I'd been embarrassed about having to ask All Might about when the time came. He escorted me out of the apartment and across the hall before lightly knocking on the door.

A moment later it opened to reveal a kind looking middle aged woman with green eyes and an untamable mop of auburn curls. She looked surprised to see us on her doorstep, her eyes swept over me and a warm maternal smile spread across her lips, "no longer hiding, I see, that's wonderful progress. It's so nice to finally meet you."

All Might smiled in return, "would you mind looking after her for a moment?"

The kind woman smiled and opened her door wider, "sure, come on in, sweetheart." She spoke in decent Japanese, she obviously wasn't native to it, but it was quite good and put me at ease.

I looked to All Might and he gave me a gentle pat on the head and offered me one of his trademark smiles, "I won't be long."

I nodded, gave him a quick hug and stepped inside.

"I'm Jaclyn." The kind woman offered me another warm smile as she shut the door once All Might had gone off to search the building for who was responsible.

"E-Enya." I piped up softly. All Might had gotten in touch with a friend who was able to help get me a new identity, they allowed me to keep my first name, for which I was grateful. "Th-thank you for going shopping for me." My throat hurt but I was able to ignore it.

"You're very welcome dear," she ushered me to a comfy sofa to sit down as she took notice of my trembling hands. "My daughter, Rachel, is a few years older than you, she just went away to university, and she loved picking out clothes for you."

"Please tell her I appreciate it." I bowed my head.

"I will." She looked me over with a discerning eye, "that looks new." She indicated the dark bruising around my neck.

I blanched, hoping she didn't think it was All Might, "s-someone attacked me in my dream."

"That's a horrifying quirk." Jaclyn paled, "let me get something to help, you just sit back and relax a bit dear, but try not to go back to sleep, just in case."

I nodded and settled into the comfy couch as she disappeared for a moment. She returned a little later with a first aid kit in hand and retrieved some kind of cooling adhesive bandage. Gently she placed it over the bruising and I shivered at first before I felt a sense of relief.

"Thank you."

"Does it hurt when you talk?" She asked worried.

"A little." I admitted.

She frowned. "Well, once you're able to go back to sleep, get some rest and if it's still bothering you tomorrow, have All Might bring you over and I'll do a better examination and see if we need to go to the hospital."

All Might had mentioned she was a nurse, I managed a smile, "Thank you."

She gave me a gentle pat on the shoulder before wrapping me in a warm soft blanket. "You just rest up now, dear."

I settled into the comfy sofa all snuggly and warm in the soft blanket and thought back on the fun yet exhausting day I'd spent with All Might at Disneyland. It had been such a fun day, minus the terrifying start with my brother showing up out of the blue and giving me a heart attack. We stayed late for fireworks and I'd passed out on the drive back. A yawn escaped me and I struggled to fight off sleep. After about twenty minutes, All Might returned not seeming to have found anything in his search. He thanked Jaclyn for looking after me before realizing how tired I was and offered to carry me back. I managed to disentangle myself from the soft snuggly blanket before All Might swept me into his arms.

Jaclyn wished us goodnight and reminded me I could stop by again if I wasn't feeling better the next day. I managed to stay conscious and thank her again before All Might carried me back to his apartment.

"I checked the whole building but couldn't find anything. I called a buddy of mine at the precinct but there's not much they can do at the moment." He offered me an apologetic look.

"Thanks for checking." I murmured softly, feeling too scared to try and go back to sleep.

All Might frowned, taking note of my fear. "If it's alright with you, we could share the room, that way I can wake you up quicker if you appear to be having a bad dream." He offered; the tips of his ears turned a deep shade of scarlet.

I nodded; it would make me feel more secure knowing he was right beside me.

He carried me to the master bedroom and gently laid me atop the bed, "alright, back to bed." He waited for me to burrow under the covers before laying down beside me atop the covers.

My cheeks reddened as he tucked me into bed. "Goodnight, Toshinori."

"Goodnight, Enya." He smiled and watched over me as I drifted back to sleep.

I found myself at the wedding venue I'd run away from wearing my wedding dress standing in front of the mirror that had been in my suite. I spotted Lorenzo's reflection in the mirror, standing right behind me and spun around in terror.

"Such a lovely little bride you would have made." He smiled as he looked me up and down.

"Leave me alone!" I backed away from him.

"My dear, that will never happen. You belong to me; I will never stop searching for you." He reached out toward me.

"Why?!" I cried, "just let me go."

"Why?" He laughed cruelly, mocking me, "because I own you." His hand encircled my wrist and he wrenched me toward him. His lips crashed down on mine in a rough kiss.

I struggled against him trying to fight him off of me. I couldn't scream for help with his lips on mine! His grip on me tightened and he forced me to the floor. Fear and panic gripped me as his hands began tearing at my dress. I managed to bite his lip, causing him to pull back and I let out an ear-piercing scream.

"Enya!" All Might's voice penetrated through the dream.

"I suggest you return to me, my little bride, or I'll kill that pesky All Might." Lorenzo hissed.

"NO!" I screamed, my quirk activated reflexively and Lorenzo fell away from me with a loud yowl of pain as the flames emanating from my hands burned him. His form shifted slightly, seeming to flicker, as the flames licked at him.

"ENYA!" All Might's voice was louder now and I could feel him shaking me.

I woke with a start and nearly smacked my face into All Might's as he was leaning over me shaking me in an effort to wake me up. My body was trembling. I could still feel the sensation of Lorenzo's hands on me and felt bile rise up in my throat.

"Enya?" All Might looked to me worriedly, I felt like I was going to be sick.

My stomach lurched and I ran to the bathroom in tears. It felt so real. I made it to the bathroom in time and emptied the contents of my stomach into the toilet. All Might followed after me in concern and was kind enough to pull my hair back so I wouldn't vomit in it before rubbing my back in an attempt to comfort me.

"Are you alright? What happened?" He asked worried.

"It was Lorenzo...or someone who works for him..." I cried once I was sure I wasn't going to be sick anymore. "He tried to-." I couldn't finish the thought and wrapped my arms around myself as my skin began to crawl. "He said he'd kill you if I didn't go back."

He frowned at this, "you don't have to worry about such things. I'll protect you from that monster and any other monsters that pop up along the way." His expression shifted and he offered me one of his bright trademark goofy grins.

I felt all the apprehension and fear begin to dwindle away and I attempted to mirror his goofy grin with one of my own. Though I did feel better, I was still worried.

"That's better." He smiled and ruffled my hair. "I think it might be best to have you stay with my friend, David, tonight. I can't be sure but I'd imagine whoever is using this dream invading quirk, can probably only use it within a certain range...so for now we just need to get you out of range so you can get some much-needed rest."

I felt anxious at this, "you're not coming too?"

He shook his head and smiled, "I've got a monster to catch." Sensing my growing anxiousness and panic he gently pat me on the head, "it's only temporary."

I nodded, reluctantly agreeing.

He went to grab his phone and called his friend. They were speaking in English so I didn't make out a lot of what they were saying since they were speaking too fast. It sounded like he'd woken him up. He returned after a moment and offered me a reassuring smile.

"Toshinori?" I asked shakily as a horrifying thought crossed my mind.

"What is it?"

"Do you think...they found me...because of Enji?" I asked warily.

He frowned, "that was my suspicion."
