Scarlet's laugh was harsh and hollow, devoid of sympathy. "Oh, don't give us that sob story. You're just like your bitch of a mother—destroying homes and ruining lives."
Shylah nodded, her voice icy. "First, your mother broke ours, and now you're here to destroy ours too. You're pathetic."
Tears streamed down August's face as she pleaded, "Please, listen to me! I don't want to be here. They're forcing me!"
But Sophia's fury was unrelenting. "Save your breath. You're nothing but a curse, August. You've taken everything from us, and now we'll make sure you're gone for good."
And August could fully comprehend the danger, Scarlet's sharp nails dug into her arm, yanking her forward with an almost sadistic glee. August let out a cry, her injured body trembling under the strain of the rough treatment. Her casted arm hung uselessly at her side, and her legs wobbled as Scarlet forced her to stumble along.
"Stop!" August whimpered, her voice laced with fear and pain. "I can't—please, I can't walk properly!"
Scarlet's response was a cruel laugh. "Oh, don't be so dramatic. You're managing just fine, aren't you?" She yanked harder, making August cry out in agony as her knees buckled.
Sophia stepped in front of them, arms crossed, her face twisted in disgust. "Look at you," she spat, her voice dripping with contempt. "Pathetic. Crawling around like some wounded animal. And yet, you still managed to worm your way into their lives."
"That's not true!" August cried, her voice trembling. "I'm not here because I want to be! They—"
"Shut up!" Shylah snapped, cutting her off. She raised her free hand and struck August hard across the cheek. The sound of the slap echoed through the night air, and August's head snapped to the side, tears streaming down her face.
Sophia smirked, stepping closer. "We don't care about your excuses. You're just like your whore of a mother—breaking homes and ruining lives. Did you really think you could come in here and take what's ours?"
"I didn't—" August started, but her words were silenced by Scarlet twisting her already broken arm painfully.
"Don't lie to us!" Shylah hissed, her face inches from August's. "We know your type. Weak. Pathetic. Leeching off of others to survive. You disgust me."
Sophia crouched down slightly, bringing herself to August's eye level. "Do you have any idea what you've done to us?" she demanded, her tone cold and venomous. "Our lives were perfect until you showed up. You've ruined everything."
August's voice was barely a whisper as she pleaded, "Please, just listen to me. I didn't want this. I didn't choose this. They took me—"
Another slap from Scarlet silenced her, leaving her cheek burning with blood on her lips and her vision swimming. "Enough of your lies!" Scarlet barked. "You think we're stupid? You think we'll believe you over them? You're nothing but a scheming little bitch, just like your mother."
Sophia grabbed August's chin roughly, forcing her to look up. "You want to play the victim? Fine. But it won't save you now." She let go with a shove, and August fell to her knees, her casted arm colliding with the ground. A sharp cry escaped her lips as pain shot through her body.
Shylah bent down and gripped August's hair, yanking her head back. "You're going to regret ever stepping into our lives," she snarled. "We're going to make sure you never cause trouble again."
August's injured body was dragged mercilessly toward the sea, her feet scraping against the rough ground, her casted arm hanging limp at her side. Each step was agony, but Scarlet and Shylah didn't care. Their cruel laughter echoed around her as they hauled her forward, her desperate pleas falling on deaf ears.
"Please, stop!" August whimpered, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her legs wobbled, threatening to give out completely. "You don't have to do this!"
"Oh, but we do," Shylah sneered, tightening her grip on August's hair. "You've taken everything from us, and now it's time we take something from you."
As they neared the shoreline, August's heart sank. The guards who were supposed to be stationed there lay sprawled on the ground, unconscious. Her eyes widened in terror. There was no one to save her.
Scarlet noticed her panicked expression and chuckled. "Looking for help? Sorry, sweetheart. Looks like your knights are out of commission. Nobody's coming for you now."
Sophia smirked, her voice icy and mocking. "Don't worry, though. You won't have to worry about anyone ever again."
They reached the water's edge, the waves lapping hungrily at the sand. Scarlet released August's arm with a shove, sending her crumpling to the ground.
"Please..." August's voice broke as she looked up at them, her body trembling with fear. "I didn't choose this. They—"
"Save it," Shylah snapped, cutting her off. "You're just like your mother. A filthy homewrecker who deserves everything coming her way."
Scarlet bent down, grabbing August by her casted arm. She winced in pain, a cry escaping her lips. Scarlet smirked, her eyes gleaming with malice. "Say goodbye, little rat."
But before she could drag August into the water, a cold, furious voice rang out behind them.
"LET HER GO"
The sisters turned, startled, to see Lucian standing a few feet away, his expression dark and murderous. Elijah was beside him, his lips curled into a menacing grin.
Scarlet smirked, unbothered by the warning. "Or what? You'll stop us from getting rid of your whore?" she taunted, pulling August closer to the water. "You aren't supposed to even think about someone else other than your wife, Lucian."
Lucian's eyes narrowed, his voice like ice. "That's not a threat. It's a promise. Let her go now, Scarlet or I will have you burried alive right where you are fucking standing."
Scarlet gulped a little in fear but shrugged as if weighing her options, then smirked wickedly. "Fine."
Before anyone could react, she released August, shoving her forward into the water. August, already weakened and injured, flailed desperately, trying to keep her head above the surface. The cold waves crashed over her, dragging her under.
Sophia crossed her arms, smirking as she watched. "Looks like your filthy mistress is gone for good now."
But then, the sound of a splash shattered their cruel laughter. The sisters turned in shock as they saw Alexander diving into the sea, his movements swift and purposeful.
Sophia's face twisted in rage. "Alex! What the hell are you doing?!"
Elijah smirked, folding his arms. "You're not in control anymore, bitch."
The sea roared in the background, its waves crashing against the rocks as Alexander emerged from the water, his movements deliberate but heavy. His dark hair clung to his forehead, and his clothes were soaked, clinging to his frame as he carried August's limp body in his arms. Her head lolled against his chest, her drenched hair plastered to her pale, lifeless face.
Alexander's expression, normally calm and composed, was taut with urgency. His jaw clenched, his lips set in a grim line as he moved swiftly toward the shore. Each step through the water was a battle, but his grip on her never faltered.
As he reached the sand, he knelt down, carefully laying her body on the cold, wet ground. His hands hovered over her for a split second, uncertainty flickering in his sharp eyes before determination took over.
"Breathe, Rose," he murmured under his breath, his voice low but filled with a rare edge of panic. He tilted her head back, his fingers brushing against her cold skin as he cleared her airway. Placing his hands firmly over her chest, he began compressions, counting under his breath, his movements precise but desperate.
"Come on," Alexander growled, his control slipping as he leaned down to give her mouth-to-mouth. His breaths were measured, but his eyes betrayed the fear simmering beneath his exterior. He repeated the process, compressions and breaths, his focus unyielding.
Behind him, Lucian and Elijah stood tense, their usual mocking demeanor absent as they watched their brother work. The sisters had gone silent, their earlier smugness evaporating as the reality of the situation hit them. It irritated them how their own husbands were so worried about another girl, how they were ready to kill and die for her.
Alexander's jaw tightened as he pressed down harder on her chest. "Damn it, August," he hissed, his voice breaking for just a moment. "You don't get to leave like this. You belong to us. To me."
Suddenly, a faint cough escaped her lips, water sputtering from her mouth as her chest jerked. Alexander's eyes widened, and relief washed over his features as he quickly turned her to her side, helping her expel the seawater.
The brothers took a deep breath.
"Breathe," Lucian urged, his voice softer now but no less commanding as he rubbed her back. His hand moved to her back, steadying her as she coughed and gasped for air. Her eyes fluttered open, dazed and unfocused, but alive.
"There you are," Elijah whispered, a rare flicker of tenderness crossing his face. He cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing away the seawater and sand from her skin. "Good little dove. You're safe now."
Lucian kissed August's forehead, his gaze locked on August as she lay weak and trembling in the sand. "What now, Alex?"
Alexander's calm mask slipped back into place as he stood, lifting August into his arms effortlessly. He looked down at the sisters, his expression cold and devoid of mercy. "Handle them. Do exactly as we discussed."
Sophia scoffed, her voice laced with defiance. "You can't touch us. Our family will know. The police will—"
Elijah stepped forward with a sinister grin, cutting her off. "Don't worry, whore. No one will know. Accidents happen all the time. And unfortunately for you, this one ends with no bodies to be found."
Shylah's bravado faltered, but she spat, "Even if you kill us, our mother won't let any of you have her."
Lucian chuckled darkly, stepping closer. "Oh, she will. After all, when we're done, she'll be begging us to not only have her but also take as her as one of our's bride."
Alexander ignored their bickering, his focus entirely on the trembling figure in his arms. He began walking toward the mansion, his voice low but sharp as he addressed his brothers. "Do it cleanly. No mistakes."
Without looking back, he carried August inside, her head resting against his chest.
As he reached his room, he whispered, more to himself than to her, "No one takes what's mine and gets away with it."
