Solemn Oceans

The earth who bore us
was our mother green
from a womb as dark
as anything

The human spark
That fire
The flame
of all we were
and became

Father sky
with water wells
doused the ebbing
of encroaching swells

Stand sullen hill
and mountain tall
watch with interest
over all

She laid us near
on swollen breast
and fed us deep
in fear and jest

Eyes un-enlightened
would grow to see
The tumult of time
in humanity

The moon kept watch
through the long years each night
and we grew as we clung
to each star in the sky

Now dear matron
and bride of the sun
Though it may seem
our journey's just begun

I look to the holy
place on your breast
where all have fallen
and taken rest

I nod farewell to star and sky
and return to your welcome embrace
I offer back to your solemn oceans
the final tears upon my face
