7: She's Gone
Kidou was long gone before you had even woken up. In fact, by the time you had gotten up and moving, he was returning to Mario's place.
"What?! Gone?!" He yelled at Mario.
"That's right! She was here this morning... but she was gone after I took my eye off of her for a second! District Five's government is better than most, but still... a girl shouldn't walk around by herself."
I know... that's why I left YN in the slums. Kidou thought.
"Anyway go and find her as fast as--" Mario turned and saw Kidou walking out the door. "Hey! Where are you going, Kidou?!?"
"She left on her own, right?" Kidou said with a blank face. "Then why should I go find her? I don't have an obligation to take care of her."
With that statement, Mario launched a chair at Kidou, who turned and threw an empty bottle right back. It was chaos in the bar when suddenly, Jin walked in.
"...So, what happened here?" He asked carefully.
"Jin... Save us... They starting fighting over some girl that ran away..." One of Mario's employees begged.
"Oh? The girl Kidou-chan saved yesterday ran away?"
More bottles went flying.
"Knock it off already!! Why the hell do I have to go look for that kid?!" Kidou yelled. "I got better things to do!!"
"You were the one that brought her here!! If you saved her, take responsibility and see it through to the end!!" Mario yelled back. After taking a deep breath, they continued. "She's a little girl who just lost her father, you know. Don't expect everyone to be just like you."
Kidou stomped up the stairs. How dare this stupid bar owner say that to him. He had enough responsibilities without this dumb social contract that he had never heard of. So what if he found her? Isn't it still his choice whether or not to care about her?
"KIDOU!!" Mario screamed at him.
"Before worrying about others, you should worry about yourself. You've nearly killed all of your customers." Kidou shot back.
"Who cares about my customers right now?!!"
"...Wait, you don't care?..." Jin asked, worriedly to Mario. "Mario, it's pointless. He's not the type to help a girl out of empathy."
"No." Mario sighed. "That idiot is seeing himself in her, I'm sure. Just like I when found him, holding onto a sword with a blank stare in the alley. I took responsibility for him. He knows what he needs to do. He's just not ready to accept it."
Kidou picked up a note left on his bed: I'm sorry.
"This makes no sense. Running away won't change the fact that you're all alone. Just like living away from YN doesn't change how I feel about her." He sighed. "I'll ask her what to do... After I explain how I got that brat."
It was only a motorcycle ride away and he had plenty of time to stop and get flowers for you; something he enjoyed doing. It had been tricky to come up with signs for each type of flower. Smile plus flower sign was daisy. Heart plus flower sign was rose. Sun sign plus flower sign was sunflower; of course. And "happy nose flower" sign was lavender, your favorite flower of all. So, he gladly paid for the happy nose flowers and went on his way.
