uh hello
a small café just around the corner, right next to the pizza joint and the pastry shop. i would be lying if i said that those three shops didn't feel like a family to me, i honestly couldn't find nicer people than those who worked there.
but the main attraction, the one that's just a little bit better than the rest is the café. i feel safe and the owners don't mind how long we stay there, they even give us the key to lock up some late nights. a sweet married couple, i believe their names were Sam and Colleen Holt, they've always talked about their son, Matt and apparently they have a younger daughter.
*sigh*
"getting sentimental Lance?"
"kind of. it's just these places are our childhood."
"i know how you feel."
the guy that i was talking to is Hunk, he's a big sweetie. works at the pastry shop as well, which is great cause free muffins. he's told us multiple times of how he was going to become a pastry chef and i honestly hope he does. i can't see him being happier other than baking, especially with his aunt and mother, who run the shop.
we stopped at the door staring at the sign. closed. not really though, well it technically opens at 10:50am and it's currently 2:57pm so i'm pretty sure it's open. it's just that there probably on break. i took my key out giving Hunk a glance before unlocking the door. we entered and immediately made our way to the usual spot. a couch right next to a table and a rug, it's a little odd but i liked it. i asked them many times why they added couches and they always responded with "well don't you feel more at home with the couch?" i mean i guess they weren't lying, i am pretty comfortable. as for the rest of the decorations it honestly looked great, the walls were a light mint color with outlined drawings of different planets and moons in black. the whole floor was a carpet, which seemed like you'd need a whole lot of trust to put a carpet in a café. the lighting was nothing fancy, just ordinary hanging lights. there was a cash register in the front with a menu on the back wall written in chalk.
hunk was sitting on the floor while i was sitting on the couch resting my head on the back of it. i was getting impatient.
"where are they!" i growled.
"cmon you know Allura and Keith like to take their slow time...... plus they're probably making out or something."
the door swung open and allura and keith were in the middle of it.
"we were not." keith mention before making his way towards us.
"sureeee." me and hunk said in unison before bursting out in complete laughter. keith only rolled his eyes and allura sat next to me.
"so princess how's it going?"
"oh lance you don't always have to call me that." she kinda sounds british, like she has the accent but not the personality.
"i know." she let out a small giggle at my comment.
"lance, hunk, keith, allura! how are you guys today?" mr. holt came through the back door marked staff only.
"doing great mr. holt!" hunk beamed up, sometimes he was too cheery for his own good. sam caught that too and turned to me and keith for the real answer.
"school was a pain in the ass." keith blurted, crossing his arms.
"ah ah ah." sam wiggled his fingers side to side, keith soon realized his mistake and quickly apologized.
"well school wasn't as bad, but it's not as good as hunk is making it seem." i finally said.
"ahhh that makes sense. oh which reminds me i have news for you."
us, a group of teenagers looked up at the man a little confused. what more could he give them. a puppy? now i'm kinda wishing it was a puppy.
"we have new staff and my daughter goes to your school now."
"oh Katie? that's fantastic!" allura giggled. "isn't she the smarter sibling?"
"yes she's beyond anything her brother learned at her age. she's one year above her grade too, so she's now a sophomore with you guys."
"i haven't seen her yet in school, but then again i don't actually know what she looks like." i wasn't to interested in the conversation, but who wouldn't be. he talked about his daughter all the time, only leaving out what her appearance looked like. sam definitely picked that up.
"so how long you guys in for today?" he changed the subject.
"ah well 9pm today." allura answered for us and we just nodded in agreement.
"oh we're leaving early today." he stood up.
"sam it's nice your talking to the kids, but you need to finish these cookies." colleen called out to him.
"katie didn't come home yet?"
"no."
"coming." he left us alone. we all decided to relax, but before i knew it someone came through the door.
"oh hey matt." hunk waved and the rest of us did the same.
"why were you so late today?" i looked up st the clock to see it's already been an hour since we got here.
"i was doing stuff." he replied.
"like what?" keith raised an eyebrow.
"like Shiro." that answer left all of us opened eyes staring at him.
"you know i'm just joking. i had to help katie with something." he said after. i don't know why we were surprised since they are dating.
"i'm always hearing of this katie. when are we ever going to see her?" i growled.
"hmmm maybe later today, she works here now so there's that." and in a blink of an eye matt left. not really, he just went behind the counter to the forbidden room, staff only. i got cozied back up on the couch once more, probably gonna fall asleep this time.
hunk ordered us milkshakes. yes milkshakes, this café has everything.
before i knew it it was already 8:45, but i didn't want to leave though. allura and hunk left early to work on some project, so that left me and keith.
i stood up heading to the counter and i kinda accidentally bumped into someone, we both fell to the floor and whoever it was dropped a plate of cookies.
"ouch." i groaned scratching my head. the person had their back faced towards me, hands touching the ground as if they had lost something.
"shit. they're broken." they mumbled, the voice was a little higher then a guy's pitch so i assumed it was a girl. i began picking up the cookies that she dropped.
"i'm sorry, did something break?" i stood up with a plate full of cookies in my hand. they still looked edible and i wouldn't mind paying for them if the customer didn't want it anymore, they were my favorite.
"um just my glasses." she paused. "scratch that, my glasses are fine." i could tell they weren't, i shifted my head to the side to see a crack on one of the lenses.
"oh here are the cookies." i tried to lighten the mood once again.
"uh thanks." her back was still facing me and from what i could tell she was one of the staff members since she was wearing an apron.
"so are you a family friend of the holts?" i said still holding the cookies.
"yup." she turned around, but her head was facing down so i couldn't get a good look at her. she grabbed the plate and made her way back into the kitchen. but before she passed through the door she turned around.
"thanks." i caught a short glimpse of her face. she had freckles that you could see from here and her hair was short and caramel plus it stuck out. her eyes were a auburn color, it left me in awe.
i walked back to keith, eyes widened.
"uhhh lance?" he waved his hand over my face.
"who was that?" i still was dazed. keith only shrugged.
"oh that's katie. my sister." matt said after placing two milkshakes on our table.
"katie." i sighed. keith and matt shared a few "is he dying?" glances.
so that was the legendary katie holt.
