"Hey Lacey, fancy meeting you here." He held out his hand to help me up. 

I glared at him again, "Not so fancy, Jake. We go to the same school. So just stop the act." I got up on my own and walked around him to the chairs. 

Grabbing one in each hand, I walked past Jake. Trying my best to ignore his soft brown eyes that made me melt so many times before.

"Oh come on Lacey. Don't be like that. I made a mistake, I see that now. Give me another chance." 

I kept walking, there was no way I'd trust him again. 

"Lacey.." Oh I'm enjoying this now.

I set the chairs down at the table just as Sally saw Jake walking behind me. "Lacey! You found him!" 

Sally ran around the table and gave me a hug, "Yeah, no problem Sally." 

.She let go and skipped to Jake, hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Disgusting.

I went back to setting up the table with Becky. When we got done we sat down and relaxed as best as we could. 

Mr. Johnson walked into the gym announcing that the upperclassmen that were already here would be signing up for sports in five minutes. Once he left Becky and I stood up and stretched. 

We sat back down and waited for the upperclassmen to come in. Most of them walked right towards the sport they wanted, others stood back and looked around at the choices.

I turned my head when I heard a scream of delight as three girls raced over towards us. 

Becky looked at me and we laughed, it was the twins and their older sister. They stood in front of our table and started gossiping with Becky as they signed up for Gymnastics. 

I shook my head and leaned back on my chair, letting Becky deal with this one. Once they were signed up they scurried away to talk with some of the girls on the dance team. 

Turning towards Becky I gave her my best disgusted face, "How can you stand all of that. It's annoying." 

She laughed and poked me in the side, "I stand you don't I. And right there is enough to gossip about." 

I frowned and scooted away from her and her poking fingers, "What's there to gossip about? I'm just me." 

She crossed her arms and looked at me stubbornly. I'm in for it now. 

"Well for starters, you're one of the prettiest girls in school, you're popular, you can do the best handspring." 

She flipped her hair, "And I'm your best friend." 

I laughed and threw my hands up in surrender, "Fine, whatever." 

Five more girls walked over to sign-up, and started talking with Becky. I shook my head which made Becky look over and send a challenging look.

That time I kept my mouth shut and waited for them to leave. Once they did leave I poked Becky in the side which made her jump.

 Before she could retaliate some football players decided to walk over and start talking with us. I smiled sweetly, Why do they always flirt? 

"So Lacey, there's a rumor going around that you're dating Jake again."

I snapped my head up and glared at the boy, "And who said this?" 

He rubbed his neck, "Lots of people did, I don't know who started it." 

I started picking up the sign-up sheets, "Well start this rumor would you. I'll never ever, EVER get back with him." 

Grabbing the papers I walk off to the coach's office down the hall, leaving the shocked football players in the gym. 

I knocked on her open door since she didn't notice me right away, "Coach?" 

She looked up from her computer, "Yes Lacey?" 

I handed over the papers, "Here's the upperclassmen sign-ups." 

She said thank you and I walked towards the cafeteria. Looking up at the clock on the wall I sighed gratefully as I saw that it was almost lunch. So hopefully the cooks would be ready. 

I smiled politely as the cooks placed food on my plate. Corn dogs with crispy fries, an apple, peas, and water. 

I went to the cashier, paid for lunch, and walked to the round table in the corner that we claimed as ours. I sat down and played with the peas once I finished the corn dog and apple. Finally looking up when someone cleared their throat. 

"If you're done playing with your peas would you mind showing us around?" 

He smiled sweetly, I looked at the other two and saw hope in their gazes. Standing up slowly I nodded, grabbed my tray and threw the remains away. 

"I have to find Becky first if you don't mind." They shook their heads and we started looking for Becky.
