chapter 6

Yoongi was dead tired. There was an accident with many casualties and he was called to the hospital.

Yoongi holds a job which made use of his abilities - an anesthesiologist. Nobody knows how he does it, but he holds a perfect record of having no complications with regards to the anesthesia he applied and having patients wake up on time as long as the surgery went smoothly.

The hospital even called him a miracle worker because he can put patients in great pain to sleep without risking their health. The board of directors had been pleased that their morphine expenses had reduced and reputation had increased greatly since Yoongi was hired, to the point that they turn a blind eye to his slightly inexplicable antics...

For example sleeping at any spot he could find. The hospital staff secretly calls him Doctor Kitten behind his back, thinking of him like a cat which chooses a cardboard box over a fluffy cot. He is often found not in his beautifully furnished and comfortable office, but asleep on the benches in the hospital.

Yoongi was napping outside the cardiology department when Jungkook exited from his consultation and saw his fellow sin.

Sleeping on such an uncomfortable bench surely can't be good, Jungkook thinks. Aish, this hyung never changed since their days in hell.

Jungkook checked his watch then the little schedule card in Sloth's pocket. Yep, Sloth's shift is over.

"Wake up, I'll get you home," Jungkook shook Yoongi awake and when Sloth didn't budge as expected, Jungkook carried him, went to the carpark, and drove off.

Jungkook tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. The doctor said he is in good health and there are no issues with his heart.

The doctor did give him a bemused look when he described his symptoms and asked if it only occured around a specific person.

Well yes, but the doctor doesn't need to know that.

"Jungkook?" Yoongi opened his eyes to confirm he is in the car of someone he knows before he starts to doze off again.

"Hyung, is Doctor Choi from cardiology in your hospital any good?"

Yoongi mumbles, "he's the best in the country."

·-·-·

Jungkook's heart beat rapidly in pure anger when he saw how messy the house was with food packaging all over the place, tons of teenagers, and the cat screeching called pop music playing at a volume even the downstairs neighbours might hear.

"What the hell is going on?" Jungkook shouts, but went unheard as Taehyung's schoolmates continued partying and singing loudly along to the music.

Upstairs, a circle of people gathered in the second-storey living area.

"You're planning to go to a business course in university, Jieun? Have you ever thought about arts?" Jin asked.

"Like our Taehyung here who wants to go to Seoul Arts University," Hoseok said.

"Not really...Bobby and I agreed to go to the same university and business is the only course I want to do there," Jieun said.

"Are you choosing that university just because of your boyfriend? What if you break up with him?" Jimin asked.

Jin delivered a swift kick to Jimin's thigh—he figured the fleshy muscles wouldn't feel so much pain— and mouthed at him, "I will slice your neck open with my dullest knife."

Surely they had lived in the human world long enough to know what not to say?

Jieun giggled at that and pulled the silver chain from under her blouse, a ring hanging from it, "no, we won't breakup. We are engaged, actually. Bobby proposed to me a few months back and we are set to marry when we graduate from high school."

"Ah... congratulations," Namjoon said on behalf of everyone else who was shocked into silence by the news and had turned to look at Taehyung worriedly.

But the boy beamed at Jieun instead, "I'm happy for you."

Despite Jimin's "encouragement" and fantasies of Taehyung getting together with Jieun, Taehyung himself never thought it would happen. In fact, he didn't really want it to.

He would rather see Jieun with Bobby together because while Bobby appears rough and a little of a jock type, he had always treated Jieun with the utmost care.

Taehyung thought of Jieun as something of an ideal type. Pretty, kind, good at her studies, very fitting to be anyone's first crush...and it seems that Taehyung's lack of sadness from knowing Jieun is engaged proved that she is simply someone Taehyung idolised.

"Thank you, Taehyung, I've always thought you are a sweetheart but didn't get to befriend you in school. Oh, why did you decide to throw a party all of a sudden?"

Taehyung didn't. Hoseok was the one who decided to.

Hoseok had it all planned out. They would invite Jieun to their home to create a chance for her and Taehyung to know each other in a familiar setting, preferably without her boyfriend, and then came up with the idea of a party so that she doesn't catch onto Hoseok's intentions.

Taehyung didn't like the idea but the Sins don't exactly have a moral code and Jimin had sent the invitations out before Taehyung had a clue and here they are. A lot of their schoolmates turned up because they would be visiting the famous EatJin's and the Jung Hoseok's house. He smiled awkwardly at Jieun.

Jennie appeared right on time to save Taehyung. She just returned from the university.

"Hello, I'm Jennie and welcome to our home."

"O-oh, hello," Jieun greets with a little bow. This unnie is really pretty. What were they talking about again?

"You have a lot of siblings, Taehyung," Jieun comments. "Ah hello...are you Taehyung's brother too?"

"No," Jungkook said, and Jieun flinched a little at the clipped tone. Jungkook had given up on the teenagers downstairs and carried Yoongi up, passing by the living area.

Taehyung quickly apologised, "I'm sorry, he's not too comfortable with strangers. Um, can I get you some water?"

"I'll go with you," Jieun said, not wanting to stay near Taehyung's scary relative (?).

Jungkook glared at their backs as the teenagers headed downstairs.

"Hmmmm," Jin hummed in thought, watching the interaction from the comfort of his seat. When did things change? Jungkook used to be close to Taehyung when the mortal was younger, being the one who changed his diapers the most and tutored him, attended all his sports events, parent-teacher meetings, etc...all done with an expressionless face but not a single complaint.

Was it two years ago when Jungkook threw himself in work and rarely came home? Jin tilted his head in thought. But nothing special happened then, right?
