C R I M I N A L XII. Survival

The creature was roughly five times your size, with a set of glistening teeth sharper than a poet's tongue. Its claws were worn and raw, with dirt stuck in the cracks and edges, but still looked deadly enough to rip out your stomach or throat in one swipe. The beast's fur was a dull silver, set back by the dry blood and dirt that coated it. Saliva dripped from its half open jaw, splashing in a forming puddle before you, spreading slowly towards your boots.

You knew one thing for sure. If by the slightest chance you managed to fight yourself out of this alive, you would strangle Lumina.

You sent a deathly glare up at where she sat, only the problem was, she was no longer in the same spot. Your eyes searched but you caught no sight of the infuriating blonde.

What the hell?

But why had it seemed strangely like Lumina had wanted to tell you about this special containment level? Like she was goading you into making her spill the beans.

Why was nothing going right for you? All you had to do was keep your head below the crowd and not get noticed during your sentence. How was that going for you so far? Part of you just wanted this monstrous being to end you so you wouldn't have to deal with any other problems, but you knew you had to survive. Only to get your revenge.

You tensed at every little move the monster in front of you made, knowing it was completely unpredictable. It began to circle you, slowly, its eyes devouring you whole. Your adrenaline went into overdrive pumping through your veins like a life source.

Abruptly the creature tore into the floor with its claws to launch itself at you. It was like a knee jerk reaction, you only just managed to roll out of the way, a single claw managing to catch some of your clothing shredding a line through it.

You stuck to the defensive, rolling and diving away from snapping teeth and swiping talons, having no where to actually run. No, of course there wasn't anywhere to run, you were in a caged off pit. It had dawned on you then, you wouldn't be getting out of this easily. You would have to kill it before it killed you. Or even ate you for that matter.

Your eyes caught sight of a pile of bones stashed up against one of the corners, like the creature had been nesting. Probably the remains of unlucky inmates.

That could be useful.

Nevertheless, you made no hesitation as you sprinted towards them. If you had any chance of surviving this, you would need a weapon.

You fumbled through the pile keeping yourself as calm as possible as the Silver Lobo, curious to what you were doing, prowled closer, huge paws thumping against the ground, like a daunting reminder that it was still behind you. Yanking a leg bone from the pile, you stood, lifted up your knee and smashed the middle of the pale yellow bone over your knee, snapping it in half. The two splints you created were now sharp enough to pierce through something, although your knee groaned in agony, that was so going to leave a heavy bruise later. However, now you had two sharp weapons to defend yourself. Even so, you weren't sure whether these would merely be like wooden splinters to the Silver Lobo. Just a pain in the backside, but you didn't exactly have a second option.

'Let usss take care of the beassst, (Name). We'll devour the marrow in its bones and suck on itsss soul till itss dry.'

The sudden existence of voices whispered harshly in your mind and with a certain sharpness that made you flinch and hissed in your mind like a swarm of hornets causing unpleasant chills to rack through your body.

'No! Not this time. This is my fight!'  You yelled mentally, as you staggered back from a swipe of claws. You couldn't let anyone else see the strange things that happened around you. You would be taken in for questioning for sure. And you didn't want to know what they did with the freaks here.

Once again you found yourself circling with the monster, both examining each others careful movements, waiting for the other to strike first.

You were too engrossed in the bloody battle to notice the crowd slowly forming around the cage.

"(Name)!" You heard Maqui's voice shout out in worry over the shouting and cheering. Who they were cheering for, you didn't really care. All you could think about was surviving.

Maqui's cry momentarily caught you off guard and for a second too long your eyes had left the deadly beast, giving it the small opening it had wanted.

White hot pain split down your arm and waist, sending you flying to the side, your body cracking in places as it hit the ground.

Red bloomed through the remains of your ripped clothing as you struggled to regain your bearings. You ground your teeth together from the harsh throbbing of your new wounds, and let out a groan as your forced yourself onto your feet.

Shit. Shit that hurts! You mentally screamed.

This was greatly going to lower your advantage over the silver monster. You glanced down at your wounds. You would have to get this over with as quickly as you could, otherwise the more time that went by the more blood you would lose which would make you sluggish and slow. You would also have to limit your movements judging by the amounts of blood that gushed out each time you moved.

Let usss.

There it was again. Those voices. That entity that had made its home within you, since as long as you could remember. You ignored them, forced them back into the dark pits of your mind and focused on your current enemy.

It reared its mighty head to release an ear splitting roar, and then your eyes zeroed in on something. A weak spot.

Right on top of the beast's head was an area that seemed paler that the rest of its skin and fur. It looked almost soft.

Your heart thrummed against your chest at the realisation and you jumped into action.

To everyone's shock, you shot straight towards the towering monster. Your arm and side screaming in agony each time your feet thumped against the ground.

The silver lobo began sprinting towards you a little too late as you let your body fall, skidding beneath its muck ridden grey body.

With the agile-ness of a cat you leapt back onto your feet and twisted once you were behind the creature, giving you a small opening. You grabbed onto its hind leg hoisting yourself up onto its flailing back.

The beast let out a grumbling roar and shook itself vigorously to rid itself of the pest that latched onto it.

You gripped its fur like your life depended on it, your stomach lurching from the quick motions of the lobo trying to throw you off.

You climbed higher, squeezing the bone weapons in your hand for reassurance. Your muscles groaned as you pulled yourself closer to its neck, closer to its weak spot.

Just a little more...

You could already feel it, the fogginess creeping in a cloud around the edges of your vision.

So close, so close.

The monster jerked, throwing you to the side making you almost choke on your saliva. You managed to dig your fingers deep into its grotty fur and flesh, your heart pounding. That was too close.

Struggling to keep focused, you finally managed to crawl onto the base of its neck. Its weak spot was in range.

Fang couldn't believe her eyes as she stared down at her cell mate struggling savagely with the Silver Lobo. You had lasted longer than the brunette had ever expected you too, but what in the hell of Gran Pulse were you doing down there? Surely you hadn't voluntarily walked in to face the beast? Did you listen to any of her warnings? Obviously not.

It was then Fang's sharp eyes narrowed into slits when a chiming giggle hit her ears. Her sharp green eyes slid over to the blonde who sat on the edge of the balcony, watching the fight below with laughter and amusement dancing in her blue eyes.

That little girl was up to something, Fang knew it. She could feel something off in her gut sense.

The brunette averted her gaze back down to the fight, her fists unconsciously clenching and un-clenching, cheering you on soundlessly.

She feared for your life.

It wouldn't be the first time a cell mate of hers had lost their life in that pit...

With a roar of your own, you targeted the beast's head with all the strength you could muster, adrenaline at its limit.

The bone dug through with a sickening crack like squelch earning a growling moan full of agony to erupt from the beast. With a few lasting twitches and movements, the beast's body grew still and silent.
Your lungs exhaled a huge breath of air in relief. You'd done it. You had won against a beast five times your size without any preparation.

But you were at your end point also, and your body told you, as it shut down on you, your limbs loosening and falling limp as you hit the ground.

Before the blackness completely devoured your vision, a blur of red and black caught your eye, and worried voices, shouts and distinct cheering was heard, before everything went silent.

Axel saw everything. Watched everything from the highest balcony.

Now he was not a man of emotions, but something in him twisted uncomfortably as you fought for your life down in that pit. He wasn't entirely sure why himself, but he was cheering you on in the back of his in mind. What confused him further was the relief that washed over him once you won.

The fiery red haired man shook his head in denial and rolled his shoulders back in discomfort. He averted his gaze up from the pit and across the air space to the other side of the balcony where he saw the man he'd least expect, let alone watch as his lips turned up into a conniving smirk at the whole ordeal.

Axel's eyes narrowed. This couldn't be good.

Rufus ShinRa.

First of all I would like to apologise for keeping your guys waiting for such a long time. I've really been struggling with this story and I kind of gave up for a while hoping something would just come to me. Thing is I have the main skeleton of the plot planned out... I'm just finding it so difficult to add in the characters and actually write it. Please continue to be patient with me.

Some reason I can't get a picture of a Silver Lobo and honestly I'm too tired to continue right now so if you don't know what one looks like, I'm imagining the ones from FF13. Type it in google images or something, trust me they're huge!

And yes, what the hell, did I just update this story?? -Rikki
