Twenty Fifth
Acceptance
The maknae line was gripping their seats, enthralled and excited but also a bit nervous. The album had been launched and today was the first day they would see how far off it got on the billboard chart.
"Okay so I'm gonna refresh this site." Jungkook tapped the reload button on his tab and Taehyung could've bet that he drew in blood when he bit his tongue.
The album had eight songs; five of em were in top 10 with Jimin's C&C dominating the chart. "Man- Jimin the fucking hell." Taheyung straddled his lap almost as he still processed what the fuck just happened.
"Sihyeon fucking hell." Apparently their album was named 'Sihyeon' which was loosely translated as revelation. With so much going on the three men had trouble processing things, with so much success on their feet they felt more human. They felt just a part of this small community called humanity.
"I thin-" Taehyung said but was interrupted by their Bangpd. God this was going to be a busy month.
---
"Apparently we have this big ass workshop. Dr Nakato is hosting and he's gonna speak about some recent research he conducted on hair follicles- he says he found a way to regrow hair cells on a small scale just imagine-" Daehye tried on a new shirt in the trial room but Ara cut her mid sentence, shouting through the phone.
"I just gave a damn presentation on prostate cancer- and no some people should remain bald- bitch fuck workshops. Do hell with college. I didn't sign up for this shit. I'm gonna die." Yeah Kim Ara was severely exhausted after the damn presentation about the prostate cancer.
"You're literally not even doing anything, please don't loose yourself. I can't afford to give you a CPR every now and then." Daehye got out of the trial room after putting her clothes back, adjusting the strap of her backpack as she handed over her clothes to a salesman and muttered a small thank you.
"Do you need anything?" She asked before Ara could continue. "From?"
"Forever new."
"Yes pick some accessories for me." It had been a week since the billboard announcement. Chronicle; the song written in collaboration with Jimin ranked forth place. This was a lot to digest and the upcoming Hybe celebratory get together just seethed and acted as a catalyst to her anxiety. Who all would be there. Jimin would be. That was enough to cause a ruckus to her emotional state.
"Okay love you."
"Love you more." She pressed the decline button as she took the bag from the cashier whilst handing her the card. The downtown area of Daejeon was lit, by the skyscrapers, by its people, by the banners of K-pop artists most of which were of BTS; either promoting their new album or the army wishing Jimin a happy birthday by putting his pictures in place of advertisements.
Daehye pulled her shacket tighter to her as a cold breeze swept through, humming of lyrics coming from a nearby cafe made humanity look beautiful for the instance. A low R&B song was playing and she decided to go inside, take a cup of coffee and then resume to her schedule.
You're the tattoo on my veins, you're my chocolate, you're my champagne. Daehye paused. In the middle of the cafe where yellow lights and aroma of coffee surrounded her, the floor seemed to slip beneath her feet. That voice. That voice she had been ignoring from so fucking long dragged her to this place. Jimin's voice pierced through her soul. And suddenly the world seemed blurry.
The song.
It was based on her.
Inspired by her.
Sang by him. Written by him.
Well fuck-
She rushed to the washroom, locked her self inside and washed her face. Stared into her reflection in the mirror before her back bent, her elbows came to rest upon the washbasin as she stared at her shoes and broke into a mess of tears. She released her frustration. Her post non existent break up melancholy which she has been bottling up from so long. It came down with tears and before she knew, she was pushing through people and jogging towards her studio house. She had to read that damn letter again. The same letter which raised doubts. The same letter she left mid way. She had to read it now.
As she reached upon the porch, she dig her pockets and with fumbling hands entered the security code. She headed straight to her book rack, fetched out his purple diary and began to read it where she left it off.
I don't deserve you. But I want you. Hell, I need you. Yet I don't think I need you for you. But more of a mere replacement.
See,
You proved me wrong yet again. At first you seemed so special to me. I remember the click clack of your heels on that marble floor when you walked down the stairs with Taehyung. It irritated me so much. But soon enough I had that sudden curiosity, sudden craving I felt towards knowing you and before I could control that, I was already in your house drinking the hot chocolate you made and listening to your continuous rambling about things you loved. You looked so elated.
And time flew like that you know? I acted like an asshole. You told me to fuck off like any right woman should. Right woman won't wait. That's what Fitzgerald said right? Can't remember the exact quote. But I still came back. So did you and that's the 101 way to fall in love with someone.
Min Daehye. I think I'm in love with you. Twisted as it is. I won't ask for much. But I just need some time. To clean up the mess I created and then I'll be yours. Completely.
She folded the letter and picked up her car keys, rushing towards the gate as she rubbed her eyes. She managed to drive fast enough- just not enough to have a warrant filed against her for speeding. She entered the password of the front door with swift hands but found the penthouse completely empty with no lights on except one at the corner of the bigger drawing room.
She took out her phone and dialed the number she trusted the most at this point. "Hello." Taehyung said from the other side as Daehye pressed the elevator button.
"Hello Taehyung, I'm sorry for calling at this time but do you have any idea where Jimin is?" Her breaths started to get faster and deeper.
"Hey relax- check his house."
"Nope not there." She repeatedly tapped the floor. "Then unfortunately I don't have any idea- we just got free of some interviews so he won't be in the studio too."
"Mans birthday is like half an hour away and he is fucking missing." Daehye sat in car and her phone linked with the car Bluetooth. "Is it related to the birthday though?" Taehyung caught her off guard on the question.
"Yeah I have the chocolate truffle in the back seat." She did actually.
"Check his spot."
"What do you mean by his spot?"
"You're the woman he admires- you should know what spot I'm talking about." Taehyung gave a long pause to her.
The beach.
"And if he's not there then Busan. Check in busan." She reversed her car while thinking, what if he wasn't at the beach- but in Busan? She could cross anything for him right now and a trip by car to Busan was actually nothing.
"Okay thanks."
"Anytime." She cut the call and a long beep was followed after that. To reach the beach would take almost two hours. There was no actual confirmation if Jimin would even be there- and he wasn't picking up his phone. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't shake off the pessimist thoughts flooding inside her brain. "No he's not going there to drown shut the fuck up." She slapped the back of her head while driving.
Upon reaching the Daehye picked up the cake from the backseat, without thinking twice she rushed towards the edge of the rock carved entrance after parking her car. The fear of destroying the cake design made her switch from running to brisk walking, the sound of waves crashing became clearer.
For a brief second she stopped, the moonlight was merely enough to see the path through rock corridor and then the most unexpected thing happened: her right foot set on the floor and she almost tripped. "Fucking laces." She cursed but when she raised her eyes she saw Jimin- bewildered, quite on a stance to lose his shit. As if all their neurons- with and without the schwann cells, all the cerebrospinal fluid just ceased to exist.
"Happy birthday bro." Daehye extended the cake box a little in his direction, his eyes squinted a little before he walked to her and ducked.
"Clumsy ass." He said as he tied her laces, trying to act cool on the surface but it was well known that it was all a façade; especially in front of her. After getting done he took the box from her and opened the lid. "It's chocolate."
"Forgot to bring champagne though." Daehye replied back- she didn't knew if she was teasing him about writing a song about her or was telling him that she knew that he wrote a song about her.
The heat seemed to raise up from his neck and walked back to the bench, he put the box on the bench and walked back to her. "Hear me out Miss Daehye- I'm not gonna ask for for forgiveness, I deserve the least of it. But please hear me out once-" she stopped him mid way and pulled his collar to hug him. Surprised at first but then the tears made the way to his eyes as melted in her embrace.
"I love you." He said with a cracked voice, he missed her. The scent of hers, her voice, her arms around his waist, everything. "What makes you think that I don't? I love you so much Jimin." Something about her calling his name flipped a switch in him. It was as if he returned to life.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He repeated twice, his voice cracked even more. "Stop crying please or else I'll cry too." She held his hand and dragged him towards the bench, blinking the tears away because either of them had to not let lose of their emotions. Maybe that was the reason they understood each other so well.
She opened the cake box and lit the candle up. "Blow." He took a look at the words written at the cake. One year closer to being a dilf. A smile formed on his lips.
"I mean according to the Korean culture it's thirty but according to what I was raised to- you're twenty nine. Apologies-" Jimin shoved a piece of cake in her mouth and kissed her almost urgently, tightly. "The cake is good."
"You're gross." She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "What next?" He asked her. "Wanna go out with me?" Daehye wiggled her eyebrows, as a joke but Jimin's blush spoke volumes about how this wasn't really a joke, a pause and then he opened his mouth.
"Daehye, I'd be dumber than all those flat earth claimers if I don't say yes right now."
"Congratulations Jimin, you're stuck with me." She said while packing the cake box and handed it to him. "What are your plans for the birthday?"
"Busan, I came here and then I was going to leave."
"Why here?" She asked, knowing the answer all too well. "For someone who's gonna be a valedictorian, you're actually kind of stupid." He snapped back at her, expecting a glare from her side but she turned her head away from his face.
"You're smiling." He said as she took a lead. "I'm dumb. I'm laughing at your stupid audacity to think that I am intelligent." Jimin thought, how about a change of plans. But it wasn't right, no matter how hard he missed her he still made a promise to his family to be there.
"Send me pictures okay? And one with Jihyun because dude he resembles you; it's like seeing twins and yes one with your parents, I really wanna see a pic of theirs." Daehye said while walking towards the parking as Jimin put a mask on his face.
"But wait what about the members?" She stopped in her tracks. "They would face time me."
"Come on a vlive please. And post on Instagram. It's like you've forgotten the password to your official." Daehye didn't knew that she would be the one speaking so much.
"You want to join me for the trip? To Busan?" He asked her in a hurry. Truth to be said, she wanted to spend time with him and he himself was desperate for that. But no- invading his family time wasn't even on the list. "No I have a presentation to give tomorrow. Carry on, I'll meet you on 15th right?."
"The Hybe party? Oh my girlfriend is invited too?" There, her smile with downcasted eyes. "Yeah last I checked."
"Can't you join me for Busan? My mom wants to see you."
"You talk about me with your mom? Dude that shit is elite." Daehye slapped Jimin's shoulder a little harder than expected. "Sorry." She rubbed the area where she slapped him.
"It's fine." Jimin leaned down just a little and placed a peck on her cheek, "I'll call you yes? Please unblock me."
"Yeah." She waved him back as got in his car. "Hey Daehye." His window slid down, "thanks." He said.
"Thanks you too. Have a safe trip, send pics and remember...."
"Remember what?"
"Saranghae." Finally saying those words in one of her native languages and actually meaning them, it was so heavenly. "Saranghae too." He kissed the back of her hand. It was surprising, how when he first met her all she could radiate was rivalry, enigma, looking all that antagonistic and intimidating but now- she was telling him how she loved him. And his heart felt melted faster than ice cream did in July.
He could've opted for a career which made her happy. He would and he will, do everything maybe to have a smile on her face.
He stopped his car and called her. "We just met five minutes ago." A voice welcomed him. "I missed you okay?" Jimin said with a sass in his voice.
"Where did you learn to ice skate?" A sudden question from her side confused him a bit, right she booked a whole ice rink for me. "Oh that, just some time pass."
"Fucking time pass? It took me years to perfect my triple toed loops and you're telling me that you did time pass?" Jimin could hear her sarcasm from here. It was true though, figure skating always amused him. When he started training for it to perfect his movements he actually came to a conclusion of loving it as a side hobbies, he had quick pace of picking up things.
"You're so talented." She said in a low voice. Driving through the country side while talking to her was therapeutic, he wondered why he never called her like this before. The night was full of conversation like these.
About Jimin explaining how the beloved word 'fuck' can be literally used any fucking where. About how it originated from Germanic or Indo- European languages, for meaning to strike and its flexible. It functions as an adjective, as an adverb, intransitive verb or even as a verbal noun. "Do you really think that I don't know this shit?" Daehye said after listening to his ramble, "you didn't know the Germanic part." Yeah he was right.

The library provided her the quite she needed to think, yeah like okay- so basically she was going to that damn Hybe get together. But who all were even there. No surely not her ex. Nah, she didn't have the brain to face him right now.
Just in case though she took out her phone and texted Jake. 'Does enhypen have any planned get together on 15th too?' She typed, the reply came almost a minute after.
'Bro you coming too? This is gonna be fun' Daehye chuckled, and then laughed. She laughed at the misery of the situation.
