P.S. I Still Do
Β Β Β Β Β Β Rafe Cameron was probably the antagonist in a lot of people's stories by now, but first person who could claim that title was the one-and-only, Leonie Maybank. The oldest sister in a line of sarcastic, hotheaded blondes, only getting worse the further you go down the line. There was Leo, of course, who once chased Barry halfway through The Cut when she caught him standing near her baby brother, JJ, the next Maybank. Probably the most annoying one, too. He liked to think he was the oldest, assuming the protective brother role over Leo and failing most times when she just laughed in his faceβat least he had Poppy to corrupt, the youngest Maybank. She was only their half-sibling, a present on their doorstep at 3:09 a.m. seven years ago with a yellow sticky-note on her chest saying "she's yours." Luke Maybank wasn't the best father in a lot of respects, so no one was surprised to find that he'd gotten some woman knocked up, especially after JJ and Leo's mother left when they were still toddlers.
Leo was the same age as Rafe Cameron, just like JJ was in the same year as Rafe's younger sister, Sarah. Both of them had younger siblings. Both of them had daddy issues. Both of them hated each other. The unwavering rivalry between the Kooks and Pogues really ignited with Leo and Rafe one night at the Boneyard when they were seventeen, and he ended up dinging her (new-to-her-but-very-used) SUV she'd been saving up years for with his expensive ass truck. The person who was more upset in that situation was not Rafe. If not for the quick steps of her younger brother, then Rafe probably would've ended up in the hospital with road-rash and Leo sitting on a manslaughter chargeβshe would've taken first-degree in that moment, though.
But eventually what happened in all angsty-teenage-coming-of-age movies happened to them. The enemies-to-lovers trope, the sexual tension, the moment where they got a little bit too drunk at a mutual OBX party and well...that's when the rulebook came into play for them.
At first, it started out with just one.

πππ ππππ: This is a one-time thing.
But then they broke that one.
So, came ππππ ππππππ πππ: Don't catch feelings.
They broke that one, too.
πππππ was easy: Don't expect me to fall in love with you.
The fact that there was a fourth rule shows how that one went.
π
πππ was the hardest to put into words, but these worked: Don't hurt me. They'd been hurt enough, hadn't they?
Apparently not.
ππππ ππππππ π
πππ: Don't leave me.
Leo broke that one.
And it was not for Rafe's lack of trying that there was not another rule after number five. They were permanently stuck on number fiveβforever, never moving, Rafe constantly wanting one more chance to write a sixth rule:
ππππ ππππππ πππ: Will you ever love me again?
Maybe then she'd still be alive.
And maybe if Leo was still alive...maybe her sixth rule would be:
P.S. I still do.

Author's Note:
As you can see from this introduction, this will be a relationship with an original character and Rafe Cameron. I want to start out by sayingβthis will be primarily pre-OBXS1. That, however, does not mean that I will not be writing Rafe Cameron to the character created in the show. Nor will I be using this story to provide an "excuse" for his behavior in the show. He may not be entirely canon, but I will do my best. However, given the circumstances of this story and the role that Leo plays in Rafe's life, there will be changes to the canon-version of OBXS1 since her death will play a significant part in decisions made from him. I do not believe in writing a love interest in for the sake of giving a character like Rafe a "redeeming arc" nor will I romanticize any of the issues presented as a result. If any ANY point you feel like it is becoming such, please feel free to leave a comment or message me. My primary purpose of this story is to introduce you to Leo Maybank, and who loved her.
PLEASE READ FOR TRIGGER WARNINGS!
With that said, I am writing about a character who experiences domestic abuse from her father. This is a major trigger warning that I encourage anyone who is uncomfortable reading to please take note of. I'm not going to shy away from the harsh realities of these issues. I will do my best to make sure that the experiences are not romanticized or used as a tool for writing purposes, but to provide insight and understanding for those who have experienced and survived the same thing. It's a difficult subject, and within this storyline especially I want to make sure it is done right.
Additional trigger warnings include: underage drinking, heavy drug use, cheating, domestic abuse, verbal abuse, physical fights, extreme profanity, mentions of sexual language and scenes, murder, death, gun violence, and other undiagnosed mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addiction, PTSD, etc.
All my love.
