IV
Rain poured down on me, thunder could be heard echoing through the peaceful air that I breath in. I never really found rain bothersome, it was something new, it was welcoming, it would wash away the worries that one had. Every time it rained I would sit atop a cliff and meditate, reflect on my situation. Nothing in this world relaxed me more than this. By now, we have built a large temple and a statue honoring that brave warrior. That battle I can always reimagine, many I have forgotten but that one left an everlasting impact on me. As of late, my dreams have been plagued by visions of a battle, a battle at my very own temple. Are they future visions or simple paranoid dreams, I can not tell. I would always find myself surrounded by the corpses of my own kin, but the other side was always blurry, I could not tell who or what they were. From there, we reinforced our defenses, many didn't question and those that did, I could not answer them. If I were, they would think I have gone mad.
A bird lands on top of my shoulder, the same one that led me to the fated crystal. It had been visiting me for quite some time now, maybe it is watching me, monitoring my progress. Or maybe it is something else entirely, I could not tell. I still do wonder who that figure is and who is the other one. Is my kin the only ones that are fated to this destiny, or are there others. I have so many questions but I highly doubt that I will ever get answers for them as my very own Ghost is very secretive. There is no point in pressuring him to speak as it won't get me any closer to the truth. The truth of my purpose. For what reason was I chosen and what task must I complete. A power like this isn't given simply because one can, there must be a task that I will have to do. But for now I shall let those thoughts to rest, I have a grander task, keeping the ones that follow me alive and well. But in that moment I notice a large formation of Hive ships approaching our position. Something in my gut tells me that this isn't optimal and I quickly rush to the temple. The Tomb ships seem to approach and I worry that this will end in a fierce battle. At the temple grounds the soldiers have riled up, unsure what to do but ready for battle. The ships stop outside and from them an entire army drops down and their leader. One that I remember vividly to be a soulless fanatic. Secron the chosen, a powerful Abyssal champion, lead many armies into battle and many victories under his name. He is a strong warrior and a blind follower of the Sword Logic. He must have been sent by another to eliminate me.
Secron: Kozor, what a sad temple you have. I am quite disappointed in you. Is this the best you can muster?
Kozor: I am guessing you came here to strike me down.
Secron: That is correct, a traitor must always be eliminated, you know how it goes. Or do you? Maybe you don't because if you knew, you wouldn't have done it.
Kozor: I would have done it regardless and I did not betray anyone. I freed myself.
Secron: Why did you do it? You have everything, fame, power, wealth, everything. Why would you just throw it away?
Kozor: Because I was tired of that life, it brought me nothing. I realized the flaws of such a life.
Secron: Flaws?! Sword Logic has no flaws. It is the way of the universe. Only the strong must survive, because with what right are the weak allowed to live. It is a perfect ideology.
Kozor: Only a blind fool can say it is perfect, but to those that have opened their eyes, they have realized all of it's shortcomings. It's many flaws, it is no sustainable ideology. It only breeds destruction and demise. It is cracked in many ways.
Secron: You dare insult our way of life?! You are weak, you let your mind be preoccupied by such meaningless thoughts. To show weakness in face of temptation, you were lost the moment you strayed away from the path of the Logic.
Kozor: No, I stepped on the right one. There is a saying, better to be the lone sheep going down the right path than to follow the herd heading in the wrong direction. And that is what you are, a herd heading down the wrong path.
Secron: It is disappointing that it had come to this, you were such a great warrior. But I will be glad to bring your head, there is nothing more that we like than a traitors head.
Kozor: It seems there is no escaping it.
I grab my blade and ready myself. Seeing this, all of my followers do the same.
Kozor: We will not submit, we will go down doing the right thing.
Secron: Pathetic. But so noble. Prepare for death. Charge, kill the heretics!
Both sides charge at each other, blades clash, shots are fired. Secrons axe and my cleaver clash, a shockwave emits from the point of strike. I will try not to use the Light as I hope that he will let his guard down. He is an arrogant fool and quick to underestimate his opponent. I see mine and his soldiers fall, he has the numerical advantage but we have the strength advantage.
Secron: Your strength is such a wasted potential. Why not give it to me?! Hahaha.
With a swing that he does manage to evade I cut down four trees. It pains me to do this, but it is something that cannot be avoided. He is stronger than me in pure strength, his strikes carry more weight. The very vision that I had has come into fruition, corpses mount up around me. I hate it and in the period that it distracts me he does manage to land a blow into me. Knocking me down, disarming me in the process. His tall figure stands over me.
Secron: I am disappointed. I thought you were greater. But worry not, that Wizard, I shall not kill her, I have grander plans for her. I shall punish her for siding with heretics. And worst of all, she will watch you die.
He lifts up his axe and the last thing I see is it coming down on me. A strange sensation takes over me, I feel like I am floating. But not cold, it is warm, comfortable. His words fuel my rage and I quickly find myself brought back by Hedret. Secron stands stunned and confused.
Secron: How? Why? You are no Lucent brood, you are no follower of the Witch Queen. So HOW!
Kozor: Secron, you will face death for everything. I promise you that.
A large Maul made of fire appears in my hands, I feel the power course through me. It feels amazing. Secrons tough character is quickly shattered, he had not expected this. He was always weak, sure he had strength but mentally and intellectually he was weak. I dash at him, swinging the Maul, he does manage to evade but the impact shatters the ground beneath him and a spire of fire rises up. He is properly shaken up this time and the second hit I made sure connected, cracking his helmet and it only took a single punch to shatter it into pieces. And I am finally able to see the coward that hid behind that mask. He swings back and our two weapons clash one more, but this time, I have the strength advantage and with a shoulder bash I stagger him which gives me enough time to land another strike into his abdomen. Shattering the armor that protects him. He falls onto the ground, our roles reversed, his pathetic face looks up at me.
Secron: If you kill me, you know more will come. Let me live and I shall lie to protect you.
I erupt into a maniacal laugh, he dares to make a deal with me, when he is staring into his own demise.
Kozor: Hahahaha..... No. Let them come, I will only grow stronger. I will become a God of a Righteous War if I have to.
With the Maul over my head I swing it down. I can't imagine what he saw in those last moments but I hope he saw regret. Upon contact his face crushes and the Solar power quickly burns him to ashes, leaving nothing but his weapon behind. I take a deep long breath, the power sizzles away, I am still not fully used to it. Exhaustion sets in but only for a short moment. Once my strength returns I look around and see the remnants of Secrons forces standing frozen in fear. My very own have been worn out thin, Thonro is wounded, three Knights and a few Acolytes which they themselves are not in a good condition.
Kozor: Retreat my men I shall deal with the rest. I shall show them the fate that awaited them at the moment they decided to clash with me.
I charge at the rest, picking up my cleaver from the ground, killing one by one. They try to run, the cowards but they are slower than my wrath. I destroy everything that came, ship, soul, everything. Once done I head back, the few that remain, their moral is strong despite loosing everything. They kneel down before me.
Thonro: My Lord, we have let you down. We were too weak to aid you.
Kozor: You were not weak, I was, I could not protect us.
I look at the bodies, at the ruined area around me.
Thonro: No my Lord, you are mighty. We simply weren't enough, our numbers were inferior. What are we to do next? It would take time to rebuild the brood. And they know the location of where we live.
She is right and so was Secron. With him dead, it is a conformation that I am strong and with that they are to send more our way. Staying here would not be wise, but I wish not to leave the forest. I stand there, pondering on what to do. I look out towards the mountains.
Kozor: Thonro, can you travel?
Thonro: I can my liege. Why do you ask?
Kozor: We will head for the mountains. Pick up the eggs, as many as we can carry. We will rebuild up there.
Thonro: Yes my Lord. Right away.
This will be a new start, it simply has to be done. I would not be a good Lord if I let them die. We will see what the future holds for us.
A couple days later
Three Guardians ships arrive at a area where they saw smoke rising up. They saw what can only be a remnant of a battle. Hive bodies lay all around. A ruined Hive temple engraved into the clff lays there, abandoned. However what worries them more is not the large axe that lays there, but the scorched ground that sits close to it. A dark skin colored female warlock walks towards it to inspect it. A hunter and another warlock look around.
Hunter: Ikora, look at this.
She walks over to where the hunter was pointing. A crack in the ground, it itself is scorched also.
Hunter: That kind of scorching looks familiar.
Ikora: It does, it seems our little scouts report was correct.
Warlock: What do you mean? That a Hive wields the Light?
Hunter: Doofis, Lucent Hive can wield the Light.
Warlock: Did you not read it? This one didn't look like he belonged to the Lucent Hive. And plus, the Ghost from what I can remember was different. It wasn't the usual one.
Ikora does not speak, all of this, it is all familiar. It seems another one was chosen, but this one seems to be more battle welcoming. What is their goal and more importantly, what is their purpose?
