Chapter Eight
"You're kidding me right now."
Your voice was laced with anger and frustration as you stared at the small envelope in your hands, your e/c eyes scanning over the name written on the front.
"Did they deliver the wrong mail?"
Taehyung spoke from beside you, a large smile on his face as he watched your reaction.
He had come over a few hours ago and offered to drive you into town, which you happily agreed to. You would do anything to get away from your boyfriend at the moment.
He stayed with you while you grocery shopped and made your way around the small town that you had actually come to like. It was quiet and quaint, nothing like the big city you were used to. Kids played in the streets, riding their bicycles and laughing as they raced each other.
It was nice to see that someone was happy.
Taehyung had actually opened up to you. He told you about his family and his aunt's history with the house you were currently living in. He told you about how her sister had gone missing so many years ago and how no one had seen her since.
The people in the town called her crazy.
Apparently, when the whole ordeal happened, Taehyung's aunt told the police that "the small door" had taken her sister.
Of course, they didn't believe her and she's been deemed the "creepy old woman" ever since then.
Something about the story sent shivers down your spine. Just knowing that a little girl vanished without a trace in the very house your staying in....it was scary to say the least.
"Yes." You huffed. "The mailman clearly doesn't mind just throwing the mail on the porch."
The chestnut-haired boy sent you a square smile.
"You're probably right about that." He said. "People around this town don't like being near this house...gives them the creeps."
You sighed running a hand through your hair as you looked up at the pink-colored wood that the house was made of.
"They aren't the only ones." You muttered.
Taehyung tilted his head as he watched you stare at the house.
"You shouldn't be scared." He stated. "It's just a house."
You nodded in agreement , swallowing hard.
"I know that." You stated. "I just-Something about this place just feels...wrong. You know?"
He sent you a sympathetic smile before placing his hand on your shoulder.
"I understand how you feel." He stated. "Sometimes I feel like this place is watching me...almost like it's telling me not to get too close.."
You rubbed your upper arm nervously, goosebumps beginning to cover your skin.
"I don't like it." You popped.
Taehyung chuckled at your words.
"That makes two of us." He said. "But at least you're not all alone here, you have your boy-"
Your fallen expression caused Taehyung's mouth to snap shut, his brows furrowing as your e/c eyes avoided his worried gaze.
He could tell that you weren't telling him something.
The day he first met you, he knew that there was something that wasn't right between you and your boyfriend. The way he looked at you and the way you behaved towards him. He knew that your relationship was probably on thin ice...but he never knew that it was this bad.
By the way your eyes were darting all over the porch, it seemed to him that you were on the verge of walking out on the man you lived with. Your boyfriend.
Even when the two of you went inside to empty the groceries, Jimin only sent glares in his direction.
He wouldn't push you, though. He knew that you needed your own time and it wasn't his place to pry into your personal life. If you wanted him to know, you would tell him.
"Why don't you go take that mail up?" He asked, trying to ease the thick tension. "I'm sure Yoongi would enjoy some company in that small apartment of his."
You moved your eyes to the man in front of you.
"You think so?" You asked. "I don't want to intrude on him."
Taehyung smiled widely, his head shaking.
"Don't worry about that." he popped. "I know for a fact that Yoongi will love having you come over."
You nodded slowly, eyes moving to the stairs that led to Yoongi's upstairs apartment.
"Then I guess I'll go give him his mail."
The young chestnut-haired male nudged you playfully.
"I'll see you later?"
You grinned.
"Yeah. Maybe we can do this again sometime."
"For sure."
You watched as he sent you a wink, before turning on his heel and walking back to his car.
You rolled your eyes affectionately as you began to make your way up the metal staircase, hands clutching the small envelopes that contained your neighbors mail.
Your knuckles hesitantly met the wood of his door, giving a few hard knocks to the mahogany.
A silent curse was heard from the other side, then a small crash and a loud yell of annoyance.
You couldn't stop the snort that escaped your mouth as Yoongi opened the door, his hair disheveled and his eyes wide as he looked at you.
"What do you-Oh. It's you."
You smiled at him.
"It's me." You stated. "Do you usually react this way when someone knocks on your door?"
He glanced around for a few brief moments before his eyes landed back on your form.
"I know this is hard to believe, but I am not used to people. " He whispered playfully.
You giggled at his words, enjoying how comfortable he made you feel.
"I had no idea." You whispered back. "My lips are sealed."
Yoongi chuckled, straightening his posture and leaning against the wooden door frame.
"Did you need anything, hot neighbor?" He asked.
A blush crept up your cheeks at the term of endearment. hands slowly outstretching.
"The mailman delivered your mail to us." You stated.
Yoongi raised his eyebrows, scowling at the small piece of paper you held.
"Thank you." He said, gently taking the paper from your hands.
You nodded your head, glancing around nervously.
"Well, you can get back to doing....whatever you do."
The silver-haired man smiled at you, opening his door a little bit wider.
"You wanna come inside?"
Your eyes widened slightly at that.
You certainly weren't expecting him to actually invite you inside.
Your brain was malfunctioning at that moment.
You didn't think that any harm could come out of it. Even though you had only known Yoongi for a short period of time, you trusted him enough to know that he wouldn't try and pull anything with you.
Besides, you still needed some time away from your brooding boyfriend. It may be nice to get to know the mysterious man that lived above you. He seemed nice enough at dinner the other night and you were genuinely interested in learning more about his music.
Jimin's face flashed across your mind as you opened your mouth to accept his offer.
You knew how he felt about you being around other men...and you were trying to rebuild what little relationship the two of you had.
You knew that you wouldn't be happy if you found out that he went into some random woman's house.
"I don't think I should." You answered honestly.
A charming smile etched across Yoongi's face, his eyes rolling he outstretched his hands, pulling you inside by your wrist.
You gasped loudly at his actions.
Yoongi laughed, his hand settling on your waist to steady you.
"You don't have to worry." He chuckled. "I won't tell your boyfriend."
Your brows furrowed as you pulled away from his grip.
"I-I'm not worried about tha-"
"Sure you're not." He interrupted with a smile before turning and walking towards the kitchen.
You huffed out, crossing your arms over your chest as your eyes scanned over the room.
Yoongi's apartment wasn't at all how you imagined it to be.
It was cozy and warm. He had made it into a very nice living space and you could definitely tell how much effort he put into making his home nice and clean.
You had expected it to be dark and a little messy, after all, he was still a man.
But it was the complete opposite.
A grand piano rested in the corner of the living room and you smiled when you saw it.
You approached the large instrument.
You could tell that Yoongi spent a lot of time "tickling the ivories". The keys were worn down slightly, but that didn't take away from the overall beauty of the instrument.
"Do you play?" Yoongi's voice asked as he approached you, two steaming cups in his hands.
You shook your head, chuckling.
"Not very well." You stated honestly.
Yoongi smiled, handing you a cup of coffee.
"I could teach you if you want."
You furrowed your brows.
"You would do that for me?"
"Sure!" He said. "It's not like I have anything else to do."
You titled your head.
"Really?" You asked. "I thought you needed to work on your music."
Yoongi shrugged.
"I can always do that after our lessons," He said. "Besides,"
You watched as he leaned closer to you, eyes never leaving yours.
"I like spending time with the hot neighbor."
A/N,
I'm so sorry that this took so long and that it sucks, but school is kicking my butt and I just get so tired so easily.
The burn on my arm hasn't healed yet either. Which means I'm in a lot of pain when I write. 😪😪😪
Please understand if I can't update as quickly as usual.
Thank you.
I love you.
Bye!
-Max
