Chapter 28

"I need some time alone."

"Hey, Y/N-ah." A hand smacked my arm as I stared out of the car window, looking at the rain droplets that were racing down the glass.

"I've been calling your name for probably 20 times! Lost in your thoughts again? Is it the boys or-" I shushed him. I can feel him shrug his shoulders and just proceeded to drive to the hospital again.

I felt bad, Sunoo has always been there for me these past few days. He even requested to transfer from his hospital in Seoul to Busan just to keep me company since that day.

Meekly, I said, "I-I'm sorry."

He chuckled, "What did you say? I couldn't hear it over how high up your pride is."

I smacked his arm, earning a aloud yelp from the man. "That wasn't funny at all, Sunoo."

"Jeez chill, ice queen." He said, using his left hand to rub the pain away from his arm. "You've been like this ever since that day."

"Have I really changed?"

"Yep." He said, popping the 'p'. "You used to be so giggly and soft and now, a literal ice queen. I mean I understand your situation, but ending on a bad note with that guy doesn't mean you need to unfriend those who are connected to him. That's basically torture."

I can't come up with an argument. All that he said was correct, and I feel really conflicted. I want to maintain my friendship with the boys but the mere thought of seeing Taehyung again brings bad memories back into my mind.

Without even knowing, tears were already rolling don my cheeks, landing on my open palm. Memories of the garden came back into my mind, then the trip to Jeju, and all the fun that I had with them. All of these things, ruined by a single mistake.

Sniffling, I joked, "Hey... are you saying this because you want to go back to Seoul? Just for your information I didn't ask for you to come here and stay with me."

"W-Well..." His silence managed to wake up a fire inside of me.

"WELL WHAT?! WERE YOU REALLY CONTEMPLATING ON WHETHER YOU LEAVE ME?! YOU'RE SO MEAN." I said, plopping back on the seat with a 'hmph'.

"And ice queen came back, great!" He sighed.

"You are getting me another caramel macchiato when we return to the coffee shop later." I said.

"Yes, ma'am." He said, and proceeded to drive to the hospital.

"You know, if you could just treat me a little better that would be nice." He started to joke again.

"Not this conversation again-"

I got so engrossed with my argument with Sunoo that I didn't realize I just passed by the most memorable place for me, the garden, and a special someone entering the said garden.

Taehyung's POV

It's the 9th time this week that I visited this place in hopes to come across the girl of my dreams. Someone that I already had, but somehow ended up losing.

Sighing to myself, I placed the ring back in the box and proceeded to walk around even though it's 11:54 in the evening. "Six minutes until Valentine's Day."

Wandering around, I saw the bouquet of smeraldo flowers that I left after the proposal. That darn proposal.

Out of frustration, I stepped on the bouquet, squishing the beautiful flowers into the hard cement floor. Defeated, I squatted down and covered my face with my hands, shedding tears as the night grows older.

I felt a nip at the back of my head, a sudden itchy feeling growing in that area. As I turned around to look at what caused that, I just saw a big bright blueish purple butterfly. It looked really pretty that I forgot about the swelling bite on my nape.

Your POV

I arrived back in my office feeling all down again. The news of people dying and no progress in finding a solution to this disease, especially since we are still unsure of what caused this severe disease to spread.

Taking off my mask, I took a sip of my macchiato and let out a smile, a smile that I haven't shown to anyone for months now. Hearing a beep from my phone, I took it out and checked the message.

Baby Tata:

Y/N, I miss you

I felt my heart swell a little bit. I couldn't help but feel soft for this man as he still has my heart, no matter how hard I try to make the feelings vanish. Holding in the tears, I placed my phone back on my table. Another beep, and another, and another.

Baby Tata:

Y/N, I miss you

I know that you are reading this right now...

And I just want to say that I'm so sorry..

I didn't want us to end this way...

I badly miss you

Gosh I want to go back to the days where we were just happily eating ice cream, picking you up from the hospital.

Don't you miss those moments, Y/N?

Cuz I really do, badly.

Can I hear your voice, just this once?

My phone started ringing, Taehyung's name showing on my phone screen. Unconsciously, I accepted his call.

"H-Hey, Y/N." He started. I felt my heart shake jus from his voice. He sounded so sad, broken, lost...

"No 'Hey Taehyung'? That's sad. I don't blame you though." He chuckled. I couldn't move my mouth. It's as if someone decided to tape my mouth shut.

"I-I miss you... I'm glad you accepted the call." I can feel his smile from the other side of the call. His iconic boxy smile shining brightly.

"I love you. You might not feel the same way... and I understand why."

Tears started to flow down, I sniffled.

"Oh... you're crying? Don't cry, baby." The nickname rolled off his tongue so smoothly it makes me so frustrated. "You know Taetae doesn't like Y/N to be sad."

I could hear a few screams from the hall, but it didn't really matter to me right now. I look like a mess of tears and coffee.

"DOCTOR KANG!!!"

"Y/N I-"

"Byun Areum's heartbeat is slowing down, and she's burning up. She's showing signs of possible coma, or even worse, death."

And with that, I dropped my phone. "Areum is what?!" I screamed and ran to her room, leaving my phone all alone on the floor, with Kim Taehyung still on the other side.

I ran as fast as I could to the girl's room. As I opened the door, I could see a few other nurses and doctors circled around her bed, checking up on her.

"Areum-ah." I said, and ran to her side. I placed my hand on her head, and it was true, she was boiling hot.

In panic mode, I hurriedly asked, "Wooyoung, is the emergency room unoccupied?"

"No, Dr. Kang." She answered and moved out, seemingly understood what I meant. The rest of the people followed, only leaving me with two men who pushed Areum's bed out of the room.

As I was about to follow, a hand wrapped around my forearm. "Dr. Kang" Areum's mother looked at me with glassy eyes. "Will my Areummie make it?"

"I'll do my best!" I said and rushed to change into my scrubs before entering the emergency room.

What immediately greeted me was looks of remorse. I looked at the heart rate monitor as it slowly goes down. All that was on my mind right now was that I have to save this child, no matter what.

Placing my stethoscope on her chest, I can hear the lungs trying their hardest to pump air in and out of her body. I proceeded to do CPR on her, only receiving looks of sadness from the other people in the room.

Tired from performing CPR on the child, I looked at the monitor. It was no use; her heart rate is now gone. Catching my breath, I stared at the staff, "What are you waiting for? Get the defibrillator!"

Panicking, the nurse gave me the said gadget and proceeded to shock Areum. "One, two, CLEAR!" I said and the body jolted upwards, but she was still unconscious.

"HIGHER. ONE, TWO, CLEAR!" I shocked her again, but to no avail.

"HIGHER-"

"Dr. Kang I'm afraid we can't do that." One of the doctors told me. I just stared at them, my eyes glassy and my forehead dripping with sweat.

"So you just want to give up? Come on... we need to do the best for our patients. ONE, TWO-"

"I'm afraid doing that won't make Areummie suddenly come back to life." He shook his head.

"Time of death: 12:51."

Defeated, tears rolled down my eyes as I held the little girl's cold hands. I cried and cried until it was only me and her unconscious body.

Sunoo came to check up on me, only finding my still crying. But he was shocked at that sight of the girl smiling with eyes shining brightly at me who was still crying.

"Y/N... you might want to see this." He called me. I looked up, and met the beautiful eyes of Areum.

"I knew you would save me, Dr. Kang." She smiled brightly at me.

"Sunoo... call for the other doctors." I told the man by the door.

"And go to the intercom and announce this, I have found the cure to this disease."

"What?" Sunoo asked.

"Me."
