Chapter 1

Your POV

"Are you okay now, Y/N?" I heard my mother say after she closed the door.

I opened my eyes and I saw a blinding white light. I rubbed my eyes while I slowly rose from the bed. I looked at my mother who was smiling at me. I smiled at her before looking around the room. I'm at the hospital, again.

"Take your medicine, Y/N." My mom said, handing me my pills from the cart which was beside her. One by one I swallowed the pills, drinking water in between pills.

"Did it happen again, Mom?" I asked her nervously. She smiled at me sadly before nodding.

It was the third time this month that I was sent to the hospital. I have this condition called pulmonary regurgitation, a terminal condition concerning my heart and lungs. There is a small hole in the valve that connects my lungs to my heart, the pulmonary valve. Due to the leak, blood that is supposed to flow to the lungs to get oxygen flows back to the heart, having no oxygen at all.

Although it isn't that severe, there are several things that I can't do. One, I can't exhaust myself too much. I shouldn't run too fast or too long because once my heart pounds too fast, I get all dizzy and faint. Two, I shouldn't get too nervous or happy because of the same reason. And lastly, I am prohibited to drink any sort of caffeine - no cola, no coffee, no tea, and only a bit of chocolate. Sad, right? A three-year-old who hasn't even been alive for a decade. Oh well, at least it isn't contagious.

My mother cleared her throat which brought me back to reality. "Sadly, yes. You got too tired from running around and you suddenly fainted."

"Thank God I have my very great personal doctor." I giggled.

Then, a very loud noise could be heard and all of the lights in the hall turned red. The speaker went off, "CODE RED! ALL DOCTORS GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. NOW!"

"Oh no. Bye, Y/N." Mom kissed me on my forehead before leaving the room. She was nervous because it seemed like a very serious case.

I laid back on my bed and tried to go back to sleep. I twisted and turned but I just can't sleep. I sat up on my bed and slammed my hands on my sides.

"I'm so booooreddd." I said before standing up. "Thank God I didn't need a dextrose." I thought before going around the room in search of something to do. I saw the paper flower and the paper heart that my mom and I made on my desk. I grabbed it and wanted to unravel it and redo it again but the window caught my eye. I approached the window with small and careful steps.

"Wow" was all I could say as I stared at the beautiful sunset. It was calming and it somehow emptied my mind.

My eyes started to get heavy and I was ready to go to bed, but I saw a colorful flying creature outside the window. "A butterfly?" I thought as I approached the window to open it. Suddenly, I couldn't breathe properly. I stepped backwards til I reached my bed. With heavy breaths, I managed to calm down. I suddenly got a bad feeling. I wore my mask before getting up and exiting my room.

Nurses were running in the hall where the red light illuminates it. I looked around and heard the crying sound of a baby, the beeping of the heart rate monitors, the laughs of the people, but mostly, the crying of a woman who is sitting close to the emergency room. I felt a sudden pang of sadness surge through my system. I was sad for the crying woman in front of me even though I didn't know her. Slowly, I approached the woman.

"D-Don't cry. P-Please?" I stuttered, I was a nervous wreck. The lady's head slowly rose from her tear-filled palms. She smiled at me.

"She's sad. So sad." I thought. I looked at the flower that I was holding and reached it out to her. She looked shocked and confused.

"It's for you." I said, carefully grabbing her hand and placing the paper flower in it. She smiled - a real and genuine smile.

"T-Thank you, child." She said.

Her voice was shaky yet it still managed to sound like an angel. I opened my arms and engulfed the lady into a hug. I didn't care if her tears would make my clothes wet. All I know is that this lady needs to be comforted, so I will. The emergency room's door suddenly opened, and out came the head doctor - my mother.

"Mrs. Park? I'm sorry to say but your son won't be able to live much longer." My mother looked down. Tears started to form in Mrs. Parks' eyes.

"No. You're joking, right?" She said. "Please tell me you're joking!" She said while shaking my mother.

"I'm sorry b-" My mother was about to explain but Mrs. Park pushed her aside and went in the Emergency room.

She immediately sat on the chair next to the hardly-breathing boy. She grabbed her son's hands and pressed it to her cheek, catching the tears which were falling. "Jimin-ah, it's your mom. Wake up now, sweetie. Let's play with your butterfly friend." She said, sadness laced her voice as she started to cry even more.

I just stood outside observing the bond between mother and son. Little did I know, tears were starting to flow down my cheeks. The life line on the monitor started to slowly go down, and little did I know, it became a straight line already.

"Time of death 10:13 pm." One of the doctors said.

The mother immediately engulfed her son into a hug while crying loudly. I couldn't stop myself and went into the emergency room and hugged the mother. I reached out for the still warm hand of the boy and held it tightly.

"Please, I beg you. Please wake up." I said and a tear fell on our hands.

Then, I heard the heart rate monitor beeping again. He's alive! I looked at his body and saw his chest go up and down - he's alive and breathing. I looked at the mother who was still grieving. I shook her and said, "He's alive." At first she was puzzled and didn't believe me.

"M-Mom?" The boy started to speak in a low and small voice, just enough for her to hear. She looked at him, doubt written all over her face.

"J-Jimin? You're alive!" She screamed in happiness. The doctors, including my mom, looked at the boy and found that he really is alive.

"H-How?" His mom was about to ask Jimin but the doctors push her aside to check on the boy.

"It's a miracle!" My mother exclaimed. "Jimin is alive and well." She continued.

"We didn't even know how to cure him because we can't find a reason as to why he would have high fever and severe cough. His immune system was strong, but how did he reach that state?" One of the doctors asked.

"Was there something that happened before he started coughing loudly, Mrs. Park?" My mother questioned her. Jimin's mom stood up and went to talk with them while I sat next to Jimin.

"Hi, how are you?" I asked the boy. He smiled brightly, his eyes disappearing in the process.

"I'm fine. My name is Park Jimin and I am three years old." The boy raised three of his small and chubby fingers. "How about you?"

"I'm Y/N and I'm three years old too!" I said while smiling at the boy.

"Can we be friends?"

"Sure."

"Jimin-ah" Jimin's mother called for him. "We should go home now. It's late."

"Well then, see you around, cute girl." He winked at me.

I looked at the paper heart origami that was in my hands and looked back at the boy who was leaving with his mother. I ran after him and grabbed his hand, placing the heart in it. "This way, you won't forget me." I smiled at him.

"I won't forget you, Y/N." He smiled reassuringly. "Bye!"

"Bye!" I smiled before panting hard. My heart started to beat rapidly, making me dizzy. And soon, I fainted.

I woke up in my hospital bed, my mother sitting beside me. "What just happened?" I asked my mother.

"Well... you ran and hit your head pretty hard on the floor. You thankfully didn't lose any blood and you don't have a concussion so I'm glad." She smiled at me.

"Why did I run?" I asked her.

"You don't remember?" She looked at me confused. "You were running after J-" before she could finish what she was gonna say, I cut her off because something caught my eye.

"Mom, why do you have a butterfly in a container?" I asked her. "Can I touch it?" I said, reaching out for the container, but my mom immediately grabbed it.

"No, Y/N."

"Why not?"

"Listen to me. Do not ever touch or get near a butterfly ever again. Okay?" She looked at me. She was serious.

Confused and puzzled, I said, "O-Okay?"
