Chapter 42

"-we may never know the identity of the villain who previously terrorized the city, but what we do know is that a new era has begun. As was addressed by the local superheros: Ladybug and Chat Noir. Who revealed the defeat of this villain earlier this week. This was made through an exclusive interview that quickly spread through the internet like wildfire. It seems like our very own Garçon Papillon had teamed up with the heros in an elaborate plan to take down Hawkmoth. And succeeded."

"I wouldn't say that too quickly, Nadia. We can't be completely sure it's over yet."

"Surely we can trust our heros?"

"All we know is Hawkmoth hasn't shown his face and there have been no Akuma sightings. Where is he? What happened to him? What did the heroes do?"

"Hawkmoth may not have shown himself, Philip. But Garçon Papillon, or Danny Fenton, his real name, has provided us with enough shocking evidence of Hawkmoth's end. More information on the miraculouses has been disclosed. Mr. Fenton has shown to now be in possession of the Hawkmoth miraculous."

"The butterfly miraculous, Nadia. I wouldn't make that mistake in front of Danny. He was very adamant of the creature that seems to be attached to the miraculous." He brought up an image of a black haired boy that was glaring at some microfones that were being shoved in his face. "For some unexplained reason, it is impossible to catch these creatures on camera, which has brought a lot of sceptisits forward that call bullshit. I would've found it hard to believe to had I not been there and seen the creature myself."

"Well whatever anyone may believe. He has proof and this may very well be a time for festivities for France."

"Maybe for some, but not for the protestors that clouded the streets on Wednesday and Thursday."

An image of a crowd of adults and teenagers holding signs appeared. Some signs said things like: 'Let Hawkmoth pay' and 'Kwamis are a threat to society', 'Mental health is nothing to laugh at.'

"Neither Ladybug nor Chat Noir showed up to stop it. As they had said in the interview, they had been expecting resistance. However, we have footage of Danny Fenton himself appearing at some point and having a heated discussion with a group that was against the butterfly miraculous still running around free. Police had to intervene to keep a fight from breaking out. The full video and Danny Fenton's speech defending the miraculous can be found on our website."

"Yes. France is certainly split. At least we know we still have our heroes to be there if things get too out of hand."

"In other news, Gabriel Agreste, previous owner of the successful Modeling and Design company, has stepped off and donated a large amount of money to-"

The video cut off and the face of an angry goth appeared on screen. "What the fuck, Danny! You said you were fine!"

Danny laughed as he looked into the Skype chat on his computer. "I was fine!"

"I saw that video of you explaining the whole story." Tucker jumped in, pushing Sam out. "And there were a bunch of links to footage of you joining the dark side too. I mean, I guess now I know it was part of the plan. But that was dangerous! You could've called us and like...we could've asked Johnny to give us a ride. He has a new portal opener. We would been there in an instance, dude!"

Danny's eyes softened. "I couldn't ask that of you. You have your whole life over there. I didn't want to bring you into another mess I got into."

"We've done it before," Sam frowned. "We would drop everything to come. In fact," suddenly two slips of paper covered the screen, "I bought us plane tickets."

Danny's eyes widened. "What- you don't have to. You've got school-"

"We'll be there by tomorrow," Tucker said. "Besides, I really want to meet the new heroes you made friends with. And I wanna see how you live and everything. And you better introduce me to that new ghost you befriended."

Danny laughed and quickly wiped some tears from his eyes, suddenly overcome with emotion. He may have put Amity's problems behind him, but that didn't mean he had forgotten about Sam and Tucker. They were his best friends after all. The two didn't say anything about the tears. They'd seen each other cry enough times.

Danny looked of to the side to something the others couldn't see. "His name is Nooroo. And he swears up and down that he's not a ghost."

"Pffft." The goth shook her head. "Sure whatever. It is pretty cool, though, how we can't see him through cameras. A few people over here in Amity heard about you and your parents."

"Do they believe it?"

Tucker laughed. "Of course they do. You Fentons are a magnet for supernatural trouble. We all know that. And now the Parisians know it too."

Danny chuckled and mumbled through a yawn. "You should see the outside of our house. It's even weirder than it was at Amity's. And everyone knows about their inventions against the akumas. Some really helped out to control the villains."

Sam hummed. "Wonder what they'll do now that they don't have anymore to investigate."

"You kidding," Danny snickered. "They just figured out what gives the heroes their powers. They are so fascinated by Nooroo. They're on cloud nine."

Tucker frowned. "Danny, what time is it over there?"

"Shit. I totally forgot about the time difference. Sorry if we called at a bad time. You're not in class right?"

Danny waved his hand at Sam's inquiry. "Nah. It's fine. I don't care."

Tucker was tapping at his phone and his eyes widened. "Two in the morning?!"

There was a gasp. "Is it that early over there? You should've told us to call back later."

Danny shook his head. "It's not like I could've said anything. You barely let me have time to explain about the news. Besides, I really missed talking to you guys. These last few months we hadn't talked much."

"I missed you too, Danno," Tucker responded. "But Jazz is gonna kill us if we ruin your sleep schedule again."

Sam nodded. "We know how fragile that is. It's fine really. We'll be there tomorrow. Or, I guess it's the day after for you. I don't know. I might have to adjust the time again to make sure I don't come in the middle of the night." She smiled at the boy. "Don't worry, we'll get there one way or another. Then you will tell us everything. And I mean everything, Danny."

The boy smiled tiredly. "Sure. As if I've ever been able to keep a secret from you guys for too long."

They nodded.

"See you then." Tucker paused. "I look forward to seeing you again."

"Yeah man."

"Same."

They didn't say much. They didn't want to finish the phone call.

"You sure you're fine?"

"I'm fine. My friends here make sure of it too."

"That's good."

"Ok. If I don't finish the call now, I'll never be able to. Bye Danny. I'll miss you."

"Mood. Bye."

"See ya."

The bleep of an ended call echoed in the room and Danny chuckled. He turned off his computer and rubbed his face on his pillow.

"They're nice."

Danny hummed into his pillow. "They are." He looked up at the kwami laying on the bedsheet. "You'll like them."

Nooroo smiled. "You didn't tell them about your parents knowing of Phantom."

"They'll find out soon enough. Besides, the phone call to clear up that mess would take ages."

"You wouldn't have minded talking to them longer."

The boy smiled wrily and raised the bedsheet up to his chest, bunching it up in his fist and curling around it. "Nah. I wouldn't." Danny gestured towards the kwami. "C'mere."

They snuggled close together and soon disappeared under an extra sheet of butterflies. Danny's very own organic night lights.

It should've felt asphyxiating. Suffocating. But it didn't. The butterflies radiated light cold. And their light bodies felt as if a soft, fluffy blanket had been draped over him. It helped him fall asleep quickly.

----------------

Danny was rudely pulled out of his sleep by a blaring alarm. He groaned. "Nooroo."

He got an answering groan.

"Turn off the helltech."

"It's your alarm." The kwami didn't even move from where he was snuggled under the blankets. "You live with the consequences."

"You can fly."

"So can you."

"Ugh fine."

The blankets shifted and Danny reached out to grab his phone. After he'd destroyed his last alarm clock he'd resorted to using his phone in the hopes that he'd be more careful when turning it off. He squinted at the brightness and fumbled around. He cursed. "I clicked on snooze."

"What's that mean?"

"It's gonna ring again in a few minutes."

Another groan.

Danny sighed. "Let's just stand up. We gotta get moving and I don't want to have to hurry to school." He stood up and adjusted the clip on his hair, happy it hadn't fallen off. He left a sleeping kwami to lay sprawled on the bed and butterflies fluttered off around the room. If he hadn't memorized it he wouldn't know where all his stuff lay. You could barely see through the mist of butterflies.

But that wasn't really much of a problem. This way he could block out the haters.

His phone ringed again as he finished dressing and he held it over the kwami. "Rise and shine. Come on."

Nooroo opened his eyes. "I don't even have to go to school."

"Yeah you do." The human turned off his alarm. "You gotta stay with me 24/7 remember. It's the law."

Nooroo huffed and floated up. "So you can keep an eye on me and I don't cause trouble."

Danny glanced back at the resigned tone and have him an encouraging smile.

It was quiet for a moment as Danny blearily looked at his phone for his schoolbooks and shoved them in a backpack.

The kwami settled down to watch Danny.

"Can you...tell me more about Phantom?"

Said boy hummed. "He has quite the lively personality."

Nooroo snorted and Danny snickered. "I reckon," the kwami smiled, then sobered up. "But I wanted to ask you something more personal. You don't have to answer."

"Nooroo. I want us to know each other as well as possible. I'll tell you everything. You can ask me whatever."

He nodded and took a breath. "Have your powers ever been misused."

"Oh sure." Danny paused in his packing for a second, but continued at Nooroo's stare. "I've been mindcontroled. Kinda like akumas do but different. I knew all I was doing. They had just changed my morals. I've been manipulated by this other man from my species. He is the same as me but uses them for different things. For more power."

The kwami of generosity was shocked at the revelation. "And," he asked quietly, "have you ever thought of using it for more power too?"

Danny didn't say anything as he closed his backpack. He sat back on his heels and sighed. "I- yes. It's human nature to want more. It's different what, but just more..of...something. At one point I did want more power I guess. I don't know. It just crossed my mind. At the beginning. To better defend my town. To win battles faster. To just get better. And I did get more power. Only because of how much I trained and what I learned." He leaned back and rubbed his face. "Don't worry. I've seen what searching for more power can do to a person. Do you believe in a multi-universe?"

Nooroo scrunched his face in thought. "I suppose I do. It's confusing."

"Tell me about it." Danny tried to smile, but gave that up soon enough. "I know this ghost who keeps tabs on the timeline. He's told me how this is the main timeline, but there's lots of ways it can go. He can see all the possibilities and how it could have gone and could go and he changes it to what's best. At one point, I got consumed by power." He blew his hair out of his face. "It was stupid really. I just wanted to pass a test. My family died, I went crazy and went for increasing my power by absorbing the energy of that other halfa I just told you about."

Nooroo shuddered. "How did that go?"

The black haired boy laughed merrylesly. "Apocalypse happened. Thankfully, the ghost saved the world by making sure I didn't make the same decisions."

The kwami sucked in a small breath. He looked down and fidgeted.

Danny leaned back to sit on the ground. The bags under his eyes now even more prominent. If Nooroo didn't know any better, he'd have thought the boy was as old as he himself was. He'd probably seen as much as him.

"So I've seen what too much power does to a person. I'm very careful with what I have. A halfa is different than other ghosts. We have more energy to spare and don't need to go back to our lairs to recharge among other stuff so we don't have to hold back as much. I don't think the other halfa has quite found out all he can do. He's only really used basic ghost powers to get money so I guess you can say his greed has made him blind to how much he could actually achieve, which we can all be grateful for." He slowly stood up and grunted as he swung his backpack on his shoulder. "But don't worry. I've had this...thing for years and I know. I've seen it."

Nooroo is quiet before he flies closer and rests on Danny's shoulder. "You're a lot like me. Don't worry," he smiled, "I know you won't do anything to hurt others."

Danny smiled tiredly. "Thanks, Noo. That means a lot coming from you." He made his way down the hall, butterflies lighting the way, before phasing right through the ground and landing in the living room, the kitchen right in front of him.

"Danny!" Maddie jumped and almost dropped the plates she'd been carrying. "Don't startle me like that."

"Sorry Mom," he mumbled and stumbled over to his food. His mom had taken to preparing his food for him. She loved inventing new types of meals by mixing the ectoenergy and natural sugars he needed. She wanted to make sure he got all the healthy nutrients he hadn't got in all the years he'd been a ghost.

"Good morning, boys," his dad greeted as he devoured his morning meat next to them.

The two greeted back with half-hearted mornings.

Maddie paused. "Why are you so tired? Didn't you sleep well?"

"Ehhh," Danny twisted his hand around. That statement was debatable.

Maddie frowned. "You know how your sister is about your sleep schedule," she warned.

He snorted. "Yeah. Sometimes I swear she cares more about that than about me."

"Danny!" Jazz entered as she looked up from her book to see her half dead brother and his Kwami looking like they had been run over by a truck. "Did you stay up late playing videogames?"

"I don't look that bad. And no," he grumbled. "Sam and Tucker called."

Maddie brightened. "Oh how sweet. It's been a while since you talked, hasn't it?"

"Couldn't they call you back in the afternoon?" Jazz got her breakfast ready as she put her book in her shoulder bag.

"No." The boy was annoyed and suddenly defensive. He'd missed his friends dammit.

"There was no way he was going to tell them to call back later," Nooroo piped in. "In their defence. They didn't know they'd been calling in this late. News of what happened here reached them."

Jack gasped. "You're world famous, Danno! Even Amity Park knows about you now."

Danny smirked at his food after slurping his soup down. "I was already world famous dad. As Phantom, remember."

"Oh yeah." He brightened again. "But now as Fenton too! You'll bring the family name far."

Danny stood up. He wasn't particularly late or anything but he wanted some time to fly around before school. "By the way. Sam and Tucker are coming by tomorrow. Or the day after. This week anyway."

"They are? That's great," his mom smiled. "You will be preparing the guest room for them. And find out when they're coming. I need to have enough food for all of us."

"I will. Bye."

"See you, son. Are you boys still up for questioning after school?"

"Yeah sure Dad!" He said as he left the door. "It's just questions and some experiments. Not like we gotta do much." He closed the door behind him and let the butterfly pick him up off the floor.

The half ghost turned to Nooroo, who hadn't moved from his spot on his shoulder. "You sure you don't mind my parents going all sciency on you?"

"No, it's fine. I understand their fascination. And I trust you to be there if they go too far."

Danny shook his head. "It won't come to that. They've been very careful." He sighed, content with his family and happy with how things were turning out. He took his phone out and scrolled through the news.

Nooroo was staring with interest. He still had to get used to phones. His previous master didn't have him around much and he mostly stayed in the den. He continued to be amazed at how much that small square was capable of doing.

Danny was scrolling through his Instagram. It had been Nino's idea to set up a few platforms, including Instagram and Twitter, so he could raise more fame for himself and Nooroo and so people could ask him things. He also liked to keep tabs on people's opinions on him.

A grin broke out on his face when he spotted a picture of him sitting cross-legged on his butterflies and looking at his phone. "Look Nooroo. We've been spotted."

The caption said: Two little angels on their personal cloud. #iwonderwhattheviewislike #i'dliketotravellikethat #cuteboys

Danny snickered as he took a picture of his crossed legs, the butterflies he was on and the ground below that. Nooroo was looking around at who had seen them while Danny posted it with the caption: The view is great.

He'd posted pics before. None of Nooroo of course. That'd be pointless. Mostly of himself, his papis, one blurred picture of him freaking out over the subs count on the website that was still up and running. They hadn't changed the name (HAR), even though there didn't have to be a rebellion against Hawkmoth anymore. It was still a popular website. They'd even received emails of legit therapists that wanted to volunteer their minds to give advice and answer questions people posted on the site.

Danny's platforms had gotten a lot of followers in the few days he'd had them. He happily recounted all kinds of stories and small adventures he'd gone through. People loved them.

Someone in Amity park had recognized him and now people were catching on about his adventures back in the ghost town. Mostly thanks to the stories his previous classmates in Casper High shared about the weird son of ghost hunters that was always tired and looked on as a geek but could send attacking ghosts away with a glare. The boy guessed it wouldn't be long before everyone knew of his crazy ass life.

"See anything interesting?"

Danny hummed. "Some rants. Some fangirling. A few questions we're gonna have to answer later. Nothing new, really. I'm gonna check the news and see if our hero friends had a busy night."

Nooroo didn't say anything as he followed the headlines and pictures they were scrolling past. His eyes widened when he spotted the image of his previous master. "Wait. He's there."

Danny frowned and clicked on Gabriel's picture. It was a news article about how the Agreste company was doing and what the family was up to.

The headline read: Gabriel Agreste throwing away the family name?

"That's harsh," Danny muttered, "Do we want to read this?"

Nooroo only nodded and the boy read out loud. Skipping over a few lines.

"After finally being able to win an interview with previous head of Modeling and Design, Gabriel Agreste, we have gotten answers to bla questions...." Danny's eyes skipped over the lines, "Ehh he says: I have completed my dream. I have no wishes to be the head of a company. I will continue doing what I love. And that is creating new fashion. I have stepped aside and appointed my previous secretary and co-worker, Nathalie, to take it farther. She is, along with two others Lucienne and Guillaume, my most resourceful employee. I trust them to make the right decisions, as I would. Ah ok...here's the next question: What will you do now? What kind of question is that. Anyway. Other than designing and creating new trends, I will take more time to spend with my son, Adrien. He will also stop modeling. I have a lot to catch up on. Aw that's nice," Danny smiled. "Oh they're also asking why he started sponsoring our school. I didn't know he did that. 'My son needs to get the best kind of education-' Of course," he sighed. Obviously Gabriel would do that. "Oh he also plans on donating to Planned Parenthood. Nice."

They continued reading and Nooroo frowned. "They're pretty skeptical of him."

"Yeah. It's pretty weird how much he's changing to his life."

The kwami shifted before floating down to rest on his holder's knee. "Are you sure that punishment wasn't a bit too much?"

Danny scrunched his eyebrows. No, he definitely didn't think it was too much. It was a lot of factors, yes, but they were pretty much all for his own good. It would all teach him something. "Look, Nooroo. It wasn't only that he invaded people's privacy by controlling and manipulating their minds and making everyone paranoid. He caused a lot of damage. Imagine if Ladybug didn't have the power she had. Can you see how much damage would be left behind?"

The kwami looked around. He nodded slowly.

"And," Danny continued, "How many people do you think can tell you exactly what a broken bone feels like. How it feels like to have a concussion and still keep running away. Many even brushed with death. There's- there's just no forgiving that. If it were up to me he wouldn't be walking around right now."

The kwami seemed shocked. "But. Well, he didn't directly caused all that. It was the akumas. He didn't tell them to do that."

"Did he stop after seeing what the villains he made were capable of doing?"

A pause.

"I get you, Nooroo. I really do. And I know this is the best outcome for Adrien. But I will never forgive that man." He looked away angrily. "Not for the Parisians and my friends. Not for you."

He felt a tap on his knee and he looked to see the small creature reassuringly place his paw on his leg. Danny took a deep breath. "I'll be honest and I'm sorry for this, but if it were up to me I'd reveal his identity, drop him in the middle of Paris and let the people have at him."

The Kwami blinked in surprise. "Really?"

"It's only fair. I mean, it would probably haunt me later and I'd regret it and Adrien would never want to see me again, but I would do that."

They were almost at the school. Just a few more blocks. Danny could feel some kids playing with the butterflies that were tagging behind him.

"I'm sorry you have to learn that about me." He really did regret it. But he'd lost some of his generosity and mercy sometime after witnessing the horrors that the world could produce. Some people just didn't deserve prison. Some needed real justice. "I'm not as heroic as I used to be."

"It's fine," the kwami understood. It did shock him a bit how Danny reacted to his previous master, but he had yet to hear half of the horrors the halfa had had to endure. "I suppose I should learn to not be as heroic either."

Danny shook his head. "I wouldn't want that for you."

"No, it's really fine. I- don't want to go through something like that again. Besides, Plagg is always telling me to stand up for myself."

Danny let out a small laugh. He jumped to change the topic. "We'll be seeing them tomorrow. Hopefully before Sam and Tucker get here."

"But I wanted to introduce them."

"Ha! Sure. That's a good idea. They wanted to meet my friends anyways."

They school came in view.

"I got one question, though. This is the first time this happened to you, right?"

"To me, yes."

"So the other times your powers are used to make superheros. Then what did Ladybug's magic butterflies restore if not the chaos the akumas created?" He jumped off his cloud and the butterflies dispersed.

Nooroo laughed, flying up to face Danny. "You'll have to ask Tikki that."

The raven didn't have time to ask him what he meant when some of his friends greeted him.

He smiled at them happily and listened as Rose started recounting how her date had gone and that it had been the most perfect thing to ever happen to her. Juleka was smiling at her the entire time.

As they entered the school, Danny noticed how people kept looking at Nooroo. They weren't used to the strange small creature, but at least they'd stopped trying to take pictures.

Nooroo kept close to Danny's chest. He used to cuddle in his neck, but after the boy had complained for the tenth time that it tickled him he resorted to the next best thing. He didn't like this much attention. However, he perked up when a certain someone called out to them.

Marinette and Adrien had joined them quickly as they made their way to class. Nooroo just barely spotted a small black paw wave at him from Adrien's coat and two round eyes smile at him, peeking from Marinette's bag. He grinned. After his existence as the source of a superheros powers was revealed, Tikki and Plagg were being forced to lay low so they wouldn't be spotted.

"How's it going?" Danny asked Adrien. "With your dad and all?"

"Oh well. It's too early to really tell where all this is going." Too early or not, Adrien had a constant sparkle in his eyes and the others knew there was a definite improvement. "But he's trying. Did you know he liked his coffee with a lot of milk? I didn't know that."

Marinette burst out laughing at the hilarity that Adrien was so pumped from knowing this small fact of his father. "Really? He always struck me as the black as coal coffee person."

"I know right? And after dropping out of modeling, I'm still getting used to that, I suddenly have an amazingly clear schedule. So I'm basically free after school."

Chloe, who'd been walking next to them, fastened her pace and looped an arm around Adrien's "I wouldn't say you have a completely free schedule. You're still doing fencing right?"

"Yeah. But it's basically free compared to how it was before."

Most people were a bit shocked that Chloe continued to hang around Adrien, even after all that his father had dropped and him getting out of modeling. But not Danny and definitely not Adrien. They knew Chloe's friendship had more roots than that.

Marinette forced herself to ignore the touching Chloe was doing. She knew there was nothing meant by that. They were childhood friends and physical contact grew with the years. Besides, she was Adrien's girlfriend. She was dating her long time crush. Her trusted partner and one of her best friends. There's nothing more she could ask for. (Other than a hamster) She smiled. "I would want to see your new house."

"Yeah!" Danny grinned and turned to wave at Nino. "Hey Nino! You wanted to check out Adrien's house right?"

"Dude yes! Let's play some videogames."

The blond laughed. "Today in the afternoon alright? Invite Max over too."

"Of course, man."

The day was passed quickly. Danny didn't really have a hard time adjusting to all the fame he had gained, because he was already given this much attention since he started collecting Tenshis. It was Nooroo Danny was worried about.

His kwami got many stares and Danny had had to argue with others a few times, something Nooroo appreciated but didn't think was necessary. He would continue doing it of course. He'd fight anyone who thought Nooroo was evil or accused him of anything. Come at him.

Luckily not many people dared anymore. And there were also others who'd joined Danny's side of the 'war' (it wasn't a war really. Danny was just dramatic and protective). Danny had let many talk to his kwami and others had quickly found that that that small cute floating creature wouldn't hurt a fly if he could help it.

It would take time, but Danny would make sure Nooroo didn't regret giving his consent to reveal his existance.

After school Adrien brought some of his friends to his house. It was a bit farther down from the school so they had to take the bus. The house was significantly smaller than their previous house and was placed way closer to it's neighbours.

It was still way more than Danny could ever afford.

The teens gawked at the entrance room and made comments on the taste of curtains jokingly when someone entered through a door on the left of them.

Adrien froze as his father exited what looked like a tailor's study and stopped at the sight of a group of teens in his doorway. The blond boy subconsciously moved to stand a bit in front of Nino and Ivan, those closest to him and smiled. "Hello...dad. I messaged you about showing my friends around at the house. Remember?"

Gabriel blinked before apparently remembering and he smiled (smiled!) At his son and his guests. "Ah yes. Welcome. Have you asked them whether they want something to drink?"

Adrien brightened considerably that his father didn't mind his friends. "I have drinks in my room. Can we go there to play some videogames?"

Gabriel nodded. "Go ahead."

Adrien grabbed Nino's hand and led the way up the stairs happily. The rest followed in a bit of a shock.

"Don't forget about your fencing practice!" Gabriel still called after him in a firm voice.

Adrien turned and nodded. "I haven't. We'll be done by then and I have talked to Raphael about driving me there. He's doing me a favor."

Now the older Agreste smiled and relaxed a bit. "Of course. Go on and make sure to have some fun."

"We will!"

They bounded up the stairs, leaving a chorus of 'thanks, Mr. Agreste' and 'we won't bother you' behind. Only Danny didn't say anything.

It didn't take half as long to get to Adrien's room as it had in his previous house, but it wasn't any less spacious. He had fully accommodated his room to his tastes and he displayed it proudly as he held the door open and let the admiring students in.

Danny stayed back a bit. He smiled nervously at Adrien. "Actually. Can I use the bathroom for a min?"

Adrien stared at him for a second before nodding and giving some instructions that went right over Danny's head. He nodded nonetheless and made his way back down the hall. It was only after a moment that he heard the door click shut.

"I had a feeling you would come back."

The voice stopped him in his descent of the stairs and Danny looked up to see Gabriel hadn't moved much from his spot.

He was more than aware of Nooroo peeking from the pocket of his hoodie as he descended to the bottom and stared at the man halfway across the room. "Hey."

"Hello."

There was an awkward silence and Danny cleared his throat, shuffling on his feet. "How's life been treating you."

"It's trying, I'll admit."

"I uuuuh see you're doing well."

"I hope so."

"It's a nice house."

"Thank you."

"....So you're gonna continue your clothing line?"

Gabriel nodded. "I would never give that up. Even if I don't get most of the profit."

Danny nodded in return. "I hear from Mister Fu and the news that you are doing your part."

"You mean fulfilling my punishment? Yes. It's not like I have much of a choice." A beat. "I have also seen that you have been taking care of your part too."

Danny blinked before he realized he was talking about his kwami, who was currently sticking his head out and taking in Gabriel warily. The boy nodded. "I hope so too."

Nooroo sent him a small fleeting smile.

"I saw what you did for him on tv," the man continued. He looked directly at Nooroo now. "Sorry. It's my fault you have so many after you."

The kwami huffed and flew out of the pocket. "I said I forgive you. Although it's getting harder and harder."

For the first time since Danny saw him Gabriel grinned. "Danny has done you good. I'm glad. How are the rest of the kwamis."

Danny shrugged and busied himself with making sure his Tenshis settled down a bit. They were slightly distressed by Gabriel's presence. Even Danny could still feel the leftover energy in him and it made him uncomfortable.

"Very good," Nooroo answered. "I'm happy to be back with them." Nooroo glanced up at Danny. "Danny's been making sure I get to see them a lot. He's really helping me out. Introducing me to the world."

Gabriel was clearly amused. It almost sounded like Nooroo was showing off his holder. "Good for him." He switched to look at the boy.

The half ghost chuckled, pleased he was doing good, and decided to change the topic to something he was worrying about. "How is your relationship with Adrien going?"

Gabriel's face fell. "I- a lot has to be done. I just hope I haven't ruined it."

Danny stared at him for a moment before he let his pity get the best of his pride and animosity against the man. "I've found that you mean as much to him as he does to you."

Gabriel looked shocked. Danny was smiling, a bit strained, but smiling. "How did you react to him being Chat Noir?"

The man winced. "I'm still processing. I have no idea how I could be able to restore his trust in me."

Danny sighed and waved his hand. "Ah don't worry. It will heal. It takes time. Probably years. And you'll both have to work for it. But it will work out. I've had a similar experience with my parents."

The man nodded. "I saw. I have a lot of time on my hands so I researched a bit on your background. Besides, the residents of Amity Park aren't very discrete of their ghost problem or their hero, Danny Fantôme."

"It's Phantom actually." Danny corrected, amused. "It's English. And how much did you find out?"

Gabriel shrugged. "I recognized you in the picture. It wasn't much of a surprise really. You seem like the type to become a vigilante."

Danny didn't know whether he should take that as a compliment.

"I also found quite a lot about your parents." He paused. "You really went to a lot of the same thing."

"Ehh. It's kinda different but no yeah I guess it can compare. My parents know too by the way. I told them a week ago and we're fine. It had taken a bunch of years before I stopped being as scared of them and they stopped wanting to capture ghosts for science, but we've sorta figured that out. Although it's not ideal, but it's perfect for me." Danny nodded, encouragingly. "So I think it will work out between you and Adrien. But don't think I will stop hating your guts."

Gabriel didn't roll his eyes, but his entire demeanor was that of an eye roll. "I understand. Although I must thank you for giving me a second chance."

Danny and Nooroo exchanged glances. "Yeah, well, don't thank me that much. I only did it for Nooroo and Adrien."

"I know."

They were interrupted by someone hurrying down the stairs. Adrien grinned in relief. "Glad to see you haven't ripped each other's throats out."

Gabriel smiled. "We were just talking about you. And what a great son I have. Saving Paris day in and day out. Being the best son I could wish for."

Adrien blushed. "Ah thanks Dad." He half turned to Danny. "It's your turn to play. You should probably hurry."

Danny gave a final firm nod at Gabriel Agreste, the older man relaxing and nodding back, before he turned up the stairs.

Adrien and Plagg followed closely. Plagg had flown out in the open for a bit to keep a watchful eye on Gabriel. Danny could probably guess it was him who had convinced Adrien to come and check on them. To protect Nooroo most likely.

Plagg continued to glare at his holder's dad until they turned the corner and walked back to the room. He then looked at Nooroo. "What did he do?"

The purple kwami laughed. "He didn't do anything. He only apologized and talked to us about what has been happening recently."

Plagg only humphed, making Adrien and Danny exchange amused glances.

They reached his room and Plagg hid again. The voices on the other side were clear as well as the laughter and joy.

They opened the door and we're greeted with many relaxed teenagers lounging around in the room and jabbing at each other playfully.

Honestly, Danny hadn't heard so much laughter being thrown around at once in a long time. His core purred happily at the sound each time it came and his butterflies flitted around gracefully as they settled on every surface that sat relatively still.

It reminded him of their mannerisms at school. No matter how much his teachers complained, he wouldn't leave his ladies outside. Even though they now basically covered the whole back wall of the classroom. This was his last school year anyways. They only had to deal with him for another few months.

Then...he didn't know what he would do.

Try for NASA?

Be a scientist?

A full time superhero?

He'd probably take a brake and travel around the world.

He didn't really have a plan. A rough outline at best. His plans were always open and flexible. Those were the best kind of plans. He should know.

They had gotten him this far.

After all, anything could happen. And whatever did, he was ready for it. He had enough people to be there with him.

His friends. Here in France. Back in America. His parents and Jazz. And Nooroo, he would probably stay with Danny for the rest of his life.

Either way. That was something he'd leave to the future.

Right now. In this moment. He was happy.

So....
Sorry for the long wait. I got sick and demotivated and then tests. Which went REALLY WELL THANKS FOR ASKING. well...Idk my grades yet but I studied my butt off for them for once and was exhausted but now I'm finally done with that and this book.
