4. Playing Your Part

That new side you saw of Link last night was, scary. You couldn't believe it, you still couldn't bring yourself to the realisation that Hyrule's greatest warrior, your hero, was... in such a state.

You had left him to sleep that night, and you went back to the Inn late.

What were you going to do about it all? You loved Link a lot, but you didn't know what to do to help. But after seeing him last night, you pledged to yourself that you wouldn't let him do it ever again. If you can stop him...

"Good morning, my love." You whispered as you took a seat on the edge of his bed. Link was stirring in his sleep, and the wounds that covered his arms were still there. You gripped one of his hands, and you felt him relax instantly. He slowly opened his blue eyes and gently gazed into your e/c eyes.

You leant your forehead down his, and touched noses. He caught you off guard by wrapping his arms around you, pulling you a bit closer. "Good morning, Y/n." He practically breathed into your ear. You could feel his hot breath against your skin.

As you lay there in his arms, he saw past you and noticed that the bandages were missing from around his arms. Suddenly his cheeks and the points of his ears went pink as he sat up quickly. You were kinda pushed off as he got up...

"Y/n...?!" He looked over to you who was sitting up on his bed at the other end. He held his arms out before him, looking at the emotion that had leaked upon them. "Shh... You told me last night... It's okay..." You tried to calm him since he looked very embarrassed. He just dropped his arms down in front of him, and he looked away. "Can we discuss it later...?" "Okay..."

Stacks of books were sitting on the table of Links house. Even though you cleaned up the other day, it still all looked very cluttered. You had borrowed some books that should help you tend to the wounds on Link's arms. This is where you wanted to start, by healing the outside and working your way in.

"Hold out your arm for me, please?" Link did as you asked, and you looked at the purple swelling of some of the cuts, and the infections in others. You quickly flipped to a page in a book that gave some methods on cleaning open wounds. "This might sting a little? Sorry..."

You dampened Link's arm with a wet cloth, wiping the weeping cuts and burn marks. Then you applied some of the herbs that the book had suggested you crush up.

"Why are you doing this for me...?" Link asked, curiously. "You shouldn't be helping me... I can do it myself..." You stopped tending to his wounds for a second and looked up into his eyes. "I'm doing this because I love you, you know that? Right?" Link just looked away, a few words floating beneath his breath...

"And I'm doing this because I don't love me..."

After discovering Link's house was lacking food, you decided you would kindly restock his cupboards for him, after all... you couldn't see him doing it anytime soon.

You left Link at his home while you went out. There's a small forest like area just below the entry to the village. You decided to go there to gather some mushrooms, maybe birds eggs and perhaps some truffles if you were lucky.

You collected a few ingredients, enough to make an omelette. As you looked at what you had so far, you figured it wasn't enough to last a few days, and you wanted to gather enough to at least last 5 days. So you headed into the village, looking for something to buy with the few rupees Link threw at you as you left the house.

The general store had hylian rice, eggs, endura shrooms, hearty truffles and fresh milk. Milk and rice sounded nice, so that's what it was.

As you walked out of the store, a young girl bumped into you. Her name was Ivee, and you recognised her as the daughter of the shop keeper. Usually you see her greeting people as she sweeps the grounds, but today was different.

"Oh! Y/n! Sorry I didn't see you there!" "Ah, that's okay Ivee..." "Hey, did you see Naydra last night? It lit up the sky!"

Naydra, the name sounded familiar. "Naydra?" "Yeah, Naydra! It was sighted flying around Mt Lanaryu, it's blue scales lit up stunningly." Naydra was the dragon of this region, it was said that Naydra was the dragon of Wisdom.

As Ivee ranged on about the dragon she saw the previous night, an idea hatched in your brain. If Naydra is the dragon of Wisdom...then maybe, you could take Link to see him/her? Maybe Link could get help from the great dragon!

"Oh hey, sorry Ivee, I really need to get going with these ingredients. It's been nice talking to you again, uh, talk later."

You sat down a bowl of mushroom soup before Link. He looked down at it hungrily and licked his lips. "Thanks Y/n! You're the best!" He then started eating.

The two of you sat there in silence as Link ate his dinner. You hadn't cooked anything for yourself, you used the excuse you weren't hungry.

"Hey...Link?" "Hmm?" He looked up from humid dinner but kept eating.

"Have you heard of Naydra?"

"Naydra? The dragon up on Mt Lanaryu? Sure." "Well, you know how Naydra is actually the dragon of Wisdom? I was thinking maybe we should head up there...for you." "For me?" "Yeah, you know... So, maybe you could, get some help..."

Link finished up his diner and set the bowl aside, he then looked into your eyes as he cupped your hands over the table with his. "Y/n... I don't need to. I've got you."

"But Link! Even I need wisdom. We'll start our journey up Mount Lanaryu tomorrow, okay? No questions."

"Y/n" "No. Questions."
