17 | The Boy, He Cries
][ Previously: Mob fights Dimple, who is controlling the broccoli. Then he fights his hypnotized friends. His friends fight each other. Lots of fighting happens. Ryo even has a panic attack at one point. But then Dimple sees the error in his ways and becomes good again. Then dies. ][
"So, you don't even remember packing?" Mob asked, standing over Izuku at the couch as the greenette sat, hands on knees and scratching his head over the situation.
"No, not at all..." Izuku finally admitted. "What about you, Kachan?" Bakugo stood in the living room right beside the TV, staring at it from an odd angle.
"Of course I remember, idiot!"
"No you don't." Ritsu spoke dryly, arms crossed as well. The elder shot him a glare. Ritsu didn't care.
Mob was for the most part quiet. An ache slowly crawled into his heart as he stared at the wounds on his friends. He was a little scuffed too, but not nearly as much as they were.
Wait...
Did he...
lose control?
That's why Dimple was gone, and the tree, and everyone was forgetting so much. He lost control again, didn't he?? And everyone fought long and hard to stop him, Dimple even giving up his LIFE in the end! Maybe THAT was why no one remembered! Dimple didn't want him to live with that guilt!
59%
No! He shouldn't just start making assumptions like that! Maybe something else happened! Yeah! Like aliens, or a villain, or-- or...
"You alright there, Mob? Awfully quiet." Ritsu commented on his brother's behavior, nothing something was a little off.
"Ye-yeah!.. Just a little confused is all."
"Hm." Ritsu bit the inside of his cheek. His bro was looking a little stressed... "How about we get something to eat? You can invite all your friends to join us. I'm sure they would love to meet the UA kids! ...Well, Midoriya at least."
"Hey! You got something against me?!"
"Maybe you could invite Onigawara too? I'm sure they'll get along splendidly~"
"Why do I feel like that's an insult..?"
"Because it is."
">:O Listen here, you ###-" As Bakugo stomped the younger one's way, Ritsu formed a barrier around him. Thankfully that muffled the noise too. Bakugo shouted some more and pelted his fists against the shield.
"Maaybe you should let him out." Izuku whined.
"Yeah.." Mob.
Ritsu, smirking, "Not until he calms down."
That standoff lasted...a long time. To this day, no one knows who won.
----------
Going out for lunch with his friends was a great idea. Ritsu had succeeded in making his brother feel much better. Though he could sense the faint emotions looming over him like a ghost, it wasn't painful anymore.
After lunch, everyone was hanging out in the shopping center just looking around at the things they wished they could buy, but they were broke. So they couldn't.
Suddenly, Izuku, Bakugo, and Mob got a text. They all pulled out their scuffed phones in unison and read the most recent message in their class' group chat.
Sensei Aizawa:
[Sends a picture of himself laying on a hospital bed, wrapped in bandages.]
D###, I don't even remember drinking this time.
Oh well. Hopefully I can make it to class tomorrow. If not, Mic subs.
All three were a little shocked. But none of them could do anything but gasp.
Mob:
Are you alright, teacher? Where are you?
Izuku:
AIZAWA??? ARE YOU OKAY???
Bakugo:
Wait, you drink?
Sensei Aizawa:
Some place called Seasoning City... Idk why. Musta been really gone that time.
Ochako:
You should take better care of yourself! >:(
Denki:
Hey, does anyone else remember what happened yesterday?? Think I'm forgetting a lot of the past week too.
Saro:
Nope!
Eijiro:
Not just you.
Denki:
Good! Glad it's not just me!
Tenya:
GUYS THIS CHAT IS FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS ONLY!
Shoto:
You forgot the comma.
The chat marched on as Mob's thoughts wandered. So Aizawa had been there too..? His teacher... And he was...hurt...
The one guy that could stop him in an instant.
Hospitalized.
Because of him?

A hand landing suddenly in his shoulder startled Mob. He gasped and the other chuckled. "Sorry, Mob. Just wondering when you think we should go if we want to be home on time." Izuku's hand slid off Mob's shoulder.
"Oh, yeah. I-I- guess now would be a good time... Let's head over to the train station."
----------
The big group of friends dispersed, brothers hugging each other goodbye at the station.
It was a bittersweet parting. Mob hardly even got to talk to his parents that weekend. But oh well. As Mob sat on the train, Bakugo and Izuku on either side of him, at least he knew he was not alone. He still had friends.
Friends he had hurt...
Friends who were put in danger because of him...
Friends who-- ugh, gotta stop thinking so negatively. Mob turned his gaze out the window and watched the trees rush by, distracting himself in the moment with thoughts of what he would do when he got back. He still had a lot of school work to catch up on.
"Ay, Mob!" A familiar voice chimed. Mob's head perked up, blinking curiously at Reigen entering the train car. "Thought I saw you earlier!" He waved casually at his student, then tipped his head to the other two he recognized.
"Master Reigen?? What.. What are you doing here??" Mob almost stood up, he was so surprised.
"Don't know, honestly." Reigen sighed, then yawned as he leaned against their row of seats beside Bakugo. "Just woke up in Seasoning City last night. Teruki was kind enough to let us stay at his place. He and Serizawa were prrrrretty beat up!.. Gah, just can't seem to catch a break... Teruki's with us in the other car, by the way. Apparently, he decided to move in with us or something...? I dunno, my brain's foggy." Reigen huffed again, rubbing his brows. Bakugo glared at him the entire time, since the leaning blond had been encroaching on his personal space the whole spiel.
"Wait, what? You guys were...there?"
Serizawa and Teru were hurt?
Reigen didn't have his powers, so he could have been in serious danger!
All because of him?
Mob stared down at his shaking hands, rattled by the train car they all were encased in. He flexed his fingers.
Every injured person seemed to be connected to him in some way. In fact, many, like Aizawa and Reigen, had no reason to even BE there unless it had to do with him!
The cracks grew. It became harder and harder to deny what was likely the truth.
He did this to them.
He lost control.

Mob was startled again by Reigen messing up his hair. "Stay alive, Mob. We're all alright! The guys are resting in the other car, but you're welcome to visit!" Reigen could tell something was up. Mob smiled at the elder faintly, but he had to decline for now. He was kind of scared actually to see the state his friends were in... The injuries he had likely inflicted upon them..
"I think I'll stay here for now... Thanks."
Reigen handed Mob a small bag of trail mix and went on his way. Mob sighed when the other had gone.
...You know... Now that he thought about it, he was..kind of tired... The boy leaned to the side and closed his eyes, napping through he rest of the train ride.
----------
He was gently shaken awake an hour or so later. "Hey, we have to hurry." Izuku whispered. Mob's eyes opened slowly. As he came to, he realized he'd been using the greenette's shoulder as a pillow, drooling on it even.
"O-oh, sorry!"
"Haha, no problem. Let's just hurry."
"You nerds are gun a be locked inside! Ha--hahahaha!" Bakugo pointed and laughed at the two from outside the train door. The two younger teens bound to their feet and raced to the door. Izuku caught the doors as they were closing and pried them open long enough for himself and Mob to slip through. Only moments after they stumbled out did the train start to move again. "HAH! Losers.." With one final verbal jeer, the blond left it at that and spun around. Both Mob and Izuku apologized to each other a few more times as they followed after him. They met up with Teru, Serizawa, and Reigen not long after and stuck together for the final stretch of the trip.
"So you're really moving into the city too?" Mob asked Teru as they walked, for Teru it was more like a limp, to the bus.
His blond friend chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, may as well.. I've been planning to go to UA after graduating anyways. May as well get a head start, right?"
Mob smiled faintly back. "That is a good idea.. but in the middle of the school year?"
"It's..a long and frankly complicated story."
"Not really." Serizawa barged in with his polite smile. "Teru was feeling really lonely, so us helping him out last night really meant a lot to him." Teruki elbowed the other uncharacteristically sharply, then blushed when his attention returned to his friend.
"I'm sorry.." He bashly apologized to the brunette. His hands ended in his pockets, slouching a little and trying not to make eye contact with anyone. Mob chuckled and rested his hand on the blond's shoulder.
"It's alright, Teru.. We all get lonely sometimes." He was too set on reassuring his friend to notice the blush returning to the other's cheeks.
The return to campus was interrupted by a much needed dinner break. Everyone pitched in what they could to pay for it. Jokes, jabs, and laughs were shared around the restaurant table. And it was about now that Mob's worries almost completely melted away.
Almost.
He returned to campus unnaturally tired. And it wasn't the physically, or mentally kind of tired. The only times when he felt THIS kind of tired...was when he went all out with his powers...lost control, even.
Mob turned the knob to his door and slipped inside. The room was dark, even after he flicked the light on. The manmade light made up just barely for the sun that had gone.
Mob smiled at the tank in his room after he shut the door behind him. "I'm finally back Freck--les...?" It felt like in that moment, his heart just stopped.
The one light above his head flickered on and off.

CRACK!
The light bulb exploded as Mob clutched his chest. His weight wavered, causing him to stumble and nearly fall. Cracks sprung out from under his feet, crawling up the walls, ceiling, and out throughout the rest of the dorms. Mob gaged on his breath. He could barely breathe. He didn't know what to DO with himself! He had nowhere to go, no one to help him, nothing that was CERTAIN to keep him from EVER harming another again!
The rest of the class was startled alert or awake by the shaking foundation of their dorms.
"Is it an earthquake?!" Mineta shoved his door open first.
"EVERYONE, HEAD OUTSIDE!" Iida started to instruct everyone at once.
"What about the girls?! Are they alright?!" Kaminari stumbled out of his room in his pajamas, rushing to the girl's side of the building. A couple others followed, including Bakugo. Izuku hung back to make sure all the boys were out of their rooms first. He noticed that Mob's door was the most destroyed out of all of them. It looked like that was where the cracks originated from as well!.. Oh no...
"Hey, Mob, are you in there?!" He called. It was too loud. The sound of decor toppling over in every other room, paper tearing, and the crackling and crumbling of beams and sheetrock. This entire place would be going down FAST if Deku didn't put a stop to it!
The moment Izuku opened the door, he was blasted away by a whirling wind. Pure, raw power shot through his skin, alarming each and every one of his nerves that this was NOT a foe to be reckoned with! Deku's back slammed against the wall and he gasped. Through blurry vision, he saw the dark silhouette of his friend...crying alone.
"MMMOB!" Izuku stretched his hand out, but the other didn't answer.
What was wrong?? Why were...his powers so out of control?!
Was he always THIS powerful?!
The continuous stream of energy pinned the elder against the wall. As he regained his senses, Izuku scooted to the side. When at last he was out from the direct force of the energy stream, he could move easier. Izuku stood, wondering if he should try again. He knew he could get closer if he really tried, but that would mean hurting Mob! Ugh, his quirk wasn't a good match for a situation like this. Where was Aizawa?!
----------
Thump!
Aizawa shut the door to his car and locked it. It was especially dull and quiet in the staff only parking lot. The sky was dark and he was hungry. Hadn't eaten anything but hospital food this morning. And nothing says a full meal like a bowl of old, cheap ramen and a glass of orange juice. But, he was on his own two feet again. Thankfully, he was allowed to leave earlier than expected, since he'd only broken a couple bones...
In the distance rose a rumbling that caught his ears immediately. Limping around the building, Aizawa squinted at the dorms. The whole thing shook, entire chunks falling out of it. He could feel the subtle vibrations under his feet as well.
The teacher's shoulders dropped at his sides as he sighed. "...Gone for one weekend and they...Hhh..." Though he certainly wasn't in the mood, Aizawa began his jog toward the dorms.
He arrived, pleased to see a large group of students already standing outside of the building at a safe distance.
"AIZAWA!" Iida was the first to spot their teacher. The teacher started counting heads at once. Already, he noticed a few were missing.
"Where's the rest?"
"Mob and Izuku never left! And Bakugo and Kirishima ran in after them!"
"Ugh.." Aizawa rubbed his forehead. He knew somehow those troublemakers would be involved. "Everyone, stay outside." He ordered them, now sprinting past despite the stinging pangs in his left leg. If Bakugo and Kirishima were only in there trying to play hero, then that meant the source of the cause must either be Mob or Midoriya... And Aizawa already knew how Midoriya's quirk worked, so... This must be Mob's doing. The very student he was explicitly told to keep an eye on...
The pro hero ducked and dodged debris as it fell his way. The whole place was at the brink of collapse. If only he had time on his side..
Boom!
An explosion sounded a little further off. Aizawa bolted in that direction and kicked open a stuck door.
"Bakugo, get out of here!" He ordered at once.
"Not a chance, old man! We still need to find the villain causing this mess!" The teen shot back. Clearly he was under a lot of stress already though. Kirishima had found himself pinned down by a couple beams and debris. Thanks to his quirk, he was unharmed, but he was still trapped. Bakugo grunted as he tried to lift it all off of him at once, but every now and then he had to let one hand go over his head to explode any rubble large enough to harm him. Aizawa growled under his breath and helped Bakugo free Kirishima while he explained.
"This is no villain attack! Now GO! I'll handle the situation!"
"With YOUR crappy injuries?! Not a chance!!"
"I SAID GO!!" Aizawa glared down his student. Bakugo stared him down just as intensely. But then Kirishima tugged on his sleeve.
"Come on, man.. Let's get out before we become another problem for him to handle."
"But we're not another problem..." Yanking his arm back to himself. Aizawa didn't relent. "...Ugh, fine." Bakugo and Kirishima sprinted toward the front of the building. Both of them were well off enough for Aizawa to not have to worry about them too much.
Aizawa hurried toward Mob's room. Looked like that was the source of all these cracks. Any more of this shaking and the boy might fall through the floor!
"Aizawa, there you are!" Izuku stuck his head through a hole in the ceiling. He then extended his hand out to him. "Here!! The stairs are blocked off!" The teacher jumped and grabbed onto Izuku's hand. The teen remarkably was able to pull him up no sweat. Once upstairs, the man turned to his student.
"Thanks. Now get out of here."
"Ye-yes sir!" Midoriya jumped down through the hole at once and ran toward the exit.
Hhhhh... Looks like he had some earthquake protocol to run through with them again.
Eraserhead could see the manifestation of Mob's powers gushing through the door. It was palpable, crawling into his skin and shocking his goosebumps into action. Never before had anyone's mere power proved so terrifying like this before. No WONDER he was assigned to class 1A, under the only teacher who could completely cancel that out.
This kid...
Now was the first time Aizawa questioned if his quirk would even work on someone.
Eraserhead pushed on, leaning against the current of power as though he were in an intense storm. His bandages began to wear and tare. He grabbed onto the edge of the cracking doorway at last and held on with all his might! An intense heat, great as a fire, emitted from inside. Luckily, he wouldn't have to get any closer than this. Aizawa's other hand grabbed onto the door frame, and, strenuously, he heaved his upper body forward until at last his eyes peeked through. Just as the hero expected, Mob stood there with his back to him, hugging himself so tightly that his fingers tore through his shirt, entire body swaying, a challenge to keep upright.
Eraserhead activated his quirk at once. Suddenly, all was silent. The immense light emanating off of the boy suddenly vanished. His hair dropped. He dropped onto his knees. Now, the heart tugging sobs could be heard. As a calming stillness settled over the dorms, Mob's body trembled with every gasp and cry.
Wait... Why was he crying? Aizawa was so certain the boy had gone mad, turned on the world, or something along those lines. But clearly not... He was no villain. Not one bit.
Just a hurting little boy.
"...Hhhh...." Aizawa sighed, his tense body relaxed on the floor. All of this destruction for...a pity party? Probably would be good to know why he was acting this way.
Aizawa rounded the child and knelt down across from him, unblinking for obvious reasons. He watched Mob curiously. "...Is something the matter?"
"I killed him... I-I-I killed him!" Woah, that was more emotion in one line than he had ever heard from Mob before.
"Mind telling me what's going on..?" Aizawa placed his hand on Mob's shoulder, but the other refused to look up at him.
"E-everyone I care about gets hurt because of ME!" Tears gushed from Mob's hidden eyes. His body was so shaky. He nearly toppled over twice! "Everyone!.. My brother.. Serizawa, Teru, Izuku, Bakugo- you. They all just- they all just- all because of ME!" ...What was he even talking about?
Mob swayed too far forward to catch himself in time. Aizawa caught him and the two just...held onto each other. Mob hid his face in Aizawa's baggy sleeves and let it all out.
"And now I- and now I destroyed the school!"
"Shh...calm down now." Aizawa didn't exactly know how best to handle this. All he knew to do was make sure his student's facts were right, because it sounded like Mob was just making stuff up at this point.
"I-I-I- I CAN'T! I keep ruining everything!"
"It's okay.." Aizawa softly pat Mob's head, starting to stroke a hand through his soft hair. "...I don't know where you're getting these lies, but you're not hurting people. You did nothing to me at least."
"No... I did... Everyone just forgot about it..." Mob's sobs started to shorten into quick little gasps for air.
"Do you remember?"
"N-o..?"
"Then how can you be sure? Innocent until proven guilty, right? Isn't that how the law works?"
"This is di-different. My- my powers-- I keep losing control..and hurting people.." Mob gripped his teacher's shirt a little tighter. Aizawa thought for a moment, then sighed and rubbed Mob's back.
"...Trust me when I tell you you aren't the only one like this... There are others out there who are just as scared about hurting others as you are... Which... means that there are already people coming up with brilliant solutions to fix this problem... You're not alone..and you never will be."
Mob's breathing stilled enough to lean his forehead on the other's arm quietly, trembling only in his jaw.
...He hoped Aizawa was right...
H-yiic!
"What the h### was that?" Loosening his hold on Mob, Aizawa's brows contorted.
Hic-yaap!
"Sorry.. hic! It's just hic--ups." Mob smiled faintly. Embarrassed but also relieved by the humourous intervention.
"Hm. Good... I was worried one of you kids smuggled a chiwawa in here."
"Heheh.."
It didn't take much longer for Mob to slip from consciousness, too tired to keep himself awake. Aizawa carried him out of the crumbling dorms where other teachers and the like had gathered.
"He's alright..." What a champ Aizawa was to carry a teenager with such a bashed-in body... Guess it made sense, since he was a hired hero. Aizawa hardly even noticed. He was just glad no one got hurt in the end...and that Mob was alright as well. Though he certainly would have to look into that gap in memory thing now. Must have affected more than just himself. But, at least for now he could sigh in relief. "...Mob is okay..."
