Chapter Sixteen

Namjoon would eat his words just a few days later; the day before the trial was to begin. He had decided to stay home with Yoongi that day, and Jimin stayed with him.

They were all three in the living room, watching TV, when there was a pounding on the front door. They all looked around at each other, confused.

Namjoon approached the door and looked through the peephole. His heart dropped into his stomach.

"Go hide," he hissed at Yoongi. "Call Officer Chung. Go with him, Jimin, and call 119."

"What's going – "

"It's Chul. Go!"

"Namjoon." Chul's voice was a sing-song taunt. "Open up. I know you're in there. I can hear the TV."

Namjoon couldn't hold himself back. "You mean like how I could hear you beating Yoongi through your door?"

"Yes! Exactly like that!"

Namjoon grit his teeth. "Go away, Chul. You're not welcome here."

"Then just tell me where Yoongi is, and I'll leave."

"No."

"C'mon, Namjoon. You're his best friend. I know you know where he is."

"Of course I know where he is," Namjoon spat. "But I'm not telling you."

"Is he here? Why wouldn't he stay with his best friend?"

"He's not here," Namjoon said firmly. "Why do you want to know where he is anyway?"

Chul laughed an evil laugh. "Don't pretend like you don't know, Namjoon."

Namjoon began to sweat. "You're not going to get what you want from me, so just go."

Chul didn't respond, and Namjoon confusedly looked out the peephole again. There was no one there. He breathed a sigh of relief.

But then he was suddenly hit by the door as it was kicked off its hinges. The blow from the door was enough to knock Namjoon out, and Chul laughed as he stepped over him.

"Yoongi," he called out in his sing-song voice. "Come out, Yoongi."

He received no response so he continued deeper into the apartment. "Come here, Yoongi," he said, adopting his menacing voice and phrase he used to use to scare Yoongi into obeying. "Now."

Suddenly, a boy he didn't recognize ran out of one of the bedrooms. "Who are you?!" he demanded.

"Who are you?" Chul replied.

"I'm Jimin, Namjoon's roommate. Why the fuck are you in my apartment?"

Chul cocked his head. "You're Namjoon's roommate?"

"Yes," he insisted. "Where's Namjoon?"

"By the front door. You might want to go check on him. I think he might need medical attention." He smirked, then watched as Jimin hurried into the living room. Chul took it as an opportunity to continue into a bedroom.

And he immediately knew it was Yoongi's room. He recognized his desk, and some decorative odds and ins around the room. He looked around until his eyes fell on the closet. He grinned as he moved toward it and threw it open.

And there sat Yoongi, cowering and looking terrified. "You should really find a new hiding place, Yoongi," he said. "You always used to hide in our closet. Of course you'd hide in one here."

"P-Please," Yoongi stuttered quietly. "P-Please leave me alone."

"And why would I do that?" Chul asked rhetorically. "You're the star witness for tomorrow. If you're gone, then the case is gone. So," he stood over Yoongi and bent down to get closer to his face. "let's get you gone."

His hand then shot forward in a flash, and he snatched up the collar of Yoongi's shirt. He yanked him up to his feet, then promptly swept them out from under him with his own foot. Yoongi cried out as he fell painfully to the floor. Chul then kicked him in the stomach and Yoongi moaned in pain.

"HEY! Get away from him!"

Chul turned to see Jimin standing in the doorway of the bedroom. "If I were you," Chul hissed. "I would mind my own business."

Jimin stood his ground. "Leave him alone."

And then Chul was advancing on Jimin, pushing him out of the bedroom and then punching him in the face. Jimin's head snapped back and hit the wall behind him with a stomach-turning thud. Jimin slid down the wall, no longer conscious.

Yoongi began crying. "Please!" he begged. "L-Leave them alone. They didn't do anything."

"Bullshit," Chul snapped. "I'd bet all the money in the world that they are the ones who convinced you to press charges. I know you, Yoongi. You wouldn't dare defy me. It was these idiots that put those ideas in your head. And they're getting what they deserve."

He was then moving closer to Yoongi again. He pulled him up by his collar once again and hissed in his face, "And you're about to get what you deserve."

Chul let go and Yoongi fell to the floor again. Chul aimed a kick at Yoongi's face, but Yoongi put his arms up in front of it. The kick to his arms was painful, but the following kick to the crown of his head was excruciating. Yoongi cried out as he began to see stars. Another kick in the same place, and Yoongi was barely conscious.

"No, no," Chul said. "You stay awake for this. You deserve this, and you need to experience your punishment."

And then he landed another swift kick to Yoongi's stomach. Then another, and when Yoongi opened his mouth to shriek in pain, blood spurted out of it as Chul kicked him in the stomach yet again.

"P-Please," Yoongi barely managed to say.

"Please what?" Chul said. "Stop? I don't think so." Then he kicked Yoongi's legs. Yoongi was already in too much pain to cry out anymore. It was all he could do to try to protect his head with his arms. But that wasn't acceptable to Chul, who aimed yet another kick at Yoongi's head, knowing full well it would hit his wrist.

There was a sickening crack, and Yoongi screamed. His wrist fell limply to the floor, and Chul kicked his head again. Yoongi finally fell into unconsciousness, truly believing he was dying.

-

"Where are they?!"

Seokjin had just made it to the hospital, joining Hoseok and Taehyung, who were looking very nervous.

"Namjoon and Jimin are awake," Taehyung said. "They're just getting checked over."

"And Yoongi?"

Taehyung hung his head. Hoseok looked into Seokjin's eyes. "He's in a coma."

"No!" Seokjin gasped.

Hoseok nodded. "It's pretty touch and go right now. He was kicked multiple times in the head."

Seokjin dropped into a chair in disbelief. "Is Jungkook here? Is he with Yoongi? He hasn't been staying at home, so I figured he was staying at their place."

Hoseok and Taehyung looked at each other. Seokjin didn't know yet about what happened a few days before.

"He's not here," Hoseok said. "No one's seen him in three days."

Seokjin looked up, startled. "Why not?"

Hoseok and Taehyung began to explain what had happened the day Jungkook left. A dangerous look flashed across Seokjin's face. "What the actual fuck?!"

Taehyung nodded. "That's what we've all been thinking."

Suddenly, the doors opened, and Jimin entered the waiting room. He had a black eye, but other than that, no one would know he'd been injured.

"Are you alright?" Taehyung asked, rushing over to him.

"Yeah, just have a pretty raging headache."

"Where's Namjoon?" Hoseok asked.

"The doctor wanted to talk to him about Yoongi, since Yoongi had given him permission to talk to Namjoon last time. He's doing about the same as I am, sans the black eye."

"I can't believe this actually happened," Seokjin muttered. "Everything Yoongi was afraid of came true. And all we did was dismiss his concerns. How will we ever be able to convince him to trust us again?"

The others were quiet until the doors opened again and Namjoon appeared. They all stood and rushed over to him. He looked very tired, and his eyes were ringed in red as though he'd been crying.

"Yoongs hasn't woken up," he said weakly. "The doctor asked me to take temporary guardianship over him to make medical decisions for him until he does. Apparently, he listed me to be that person before he went into surgery last time he was here."

No one said anything. "I put all of you on the visitation list," he said. "So you can visit whenever you like during visiting hours. The doctor would only give me permission to stay beyond that."

The others nodded.

Namjoon walked over to a chair in the waiting room and sank into it. Then, he leaned forward, elbows on his thighs, dropped his head in his hands and cried. No one knew what to do. They knew he couldn't be comforted. So, they all just sat down in the chairs surrounding Namjoon and waited. Waited for him to calm down, waited for Yoongi to wake up, waited for everything to go back to normal.
