Chapter 27

Time check: Monday, December 12th, 11:21 am

Dela's POV:

4th period is over, and now it's time for lunch. For the past 2 weeks, I have been going around and selling tickets, during advisory, for the Winter Wonderland Dance coming up this Friday night. Not a fan of doing this, but this is one of the jobs of being 12th grade president. At least I don't have to go around to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade classes-- that's left for the presidents of their grade.

But, since this the last week before the dance, I have to double up and sell tickets during advisory and lunch-even though it takes ten minutes, really-- as well as help set up the dance later on this week, get a DJ, find some willing teachers/ staff to chaperone, some winter games for them to play, and find 4 crowns for each "Ms. Wonderland" in the grades. But on top of all of this, I somehow have to balance things between learning, friends, family, etc. Sigh. It may seem like it's a lot (that's because it is), but I've done more. In the end, it'll all be worth it when we raise enough money for our senior trip.

I walk into the lunchroom and get started, but since a lot of students already bought their tickets early, and some won't be going, so it's slightly easier. As I work my way from front to back, or back to front, I notice some familiar faces finally staying in the school for lunch; probably because it's cold outside and there are mountains of snow outside that their shoes can't get through. It's been about 3 months since Bianca stayed in for lunch and Darienne has been in and out. Of course they're sitting away from the rest. She's still avoiding both Adore and Courtney for a long while, and it's gone on long enough, honestly. It's been 3 month's since the bar incident, and I think that Bianca should at least talk and hear them out. Same goes for Courtney and Adore, but they're able to sit near each other. Now even though they haven't spoke, Bianca and Adore have been stealing silent, long stares from each other, as if nobody's watching them. Very amusing, it is.

I decide that I'll reach them last so I can talk to them and sit. After going through almost everybody, I land over at our usual table. "So is anybody going to buy a ticket to the dance?" I ask, hinting at Adore. Laganja already bought one, and Courtney Is still grounded, leaving only Adore to ask. "Come on, Adore. You have to come! It'll be fun." Laganja says. "It's too cold to be going to dances. I'd rather be near a heater, drinking hot chocolate with a shot of vodka, in my onsie, watching Christmas movies." Adore says proudly. "That didn't stop you in the past, did it?" I ask, trying to twist her arm into going. "Well... you see... I--um--" she stutters but I cut her off. "Well, you see, I, um, nothing. You are so going and you're going to have a good time. You have no excuse." I say, slightly stern. Although she's a little reluctant, Adore rolls her eyes and reaches into her pocket-- a sign that she gives in and she's going. Yay. She pulls out a five as hands it to me as I hand her a ticket. I hug her, thank her, and walk off to the table I've saved for last. "I think my eyes are deceiving me; Bianca finally eating in the cafeteria? Mark the date and time." I joke and sit next to Darienne, who has her headphones in and head down. She isn't feeling well. "Oh ha ha ha, very funny." she replies while jokingly rolling her eyes. "Well it has been months since I've seen you in here for lunch. But nevermind that, we should talk about how we're going to the dance." I try to change the topic, but Bianca isn't having it. She groans out and says "You know I hate going to school dances. They suck," she says while taking a bite of  her wrap. "Plus, I don't think that me and partying are on a break." I shake my head a little, "Come on, Bea. This is our last year. We should make the most of it." There is a slight silence between us. She then sighs and says, "Look, I know that the money is going to our senior trip, so I'll pay for a ticket. But you can keep it." "Generous, But no can do. I have to give you the ticket. What you do with it is up to you." It looks like she's thinking about it, but she eventually says, "My money's in my locker. I'll give it to you when I get upstairs." I smile at her. "That's fine, but it would be even finer if you came. Just think about it."  I get up to go and get my lunch while I still have time.
